Love the views and the hiking. A must if your in Vermont. Even if you are just driving through Vermont make time to enjoy.
Beautiful Hiking for all levels of hikers.
Green Mountain National Forest is a great place BUT the Finger Lakes are in New York State some 150 miles west of where it is labeled on the map. I previously made the above comment that the map was labeled incorrectly, which it was. But it looks like Google maps updated the map so that now it is correct. Thanks Google Maps!
It was ridiculously beautiful. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been.
Beautiful forest. Great hiking trails including the Appalachian trail and the Catamount trail. Historical places and natural beauty abounds!
Gorgeous! There's road work so you get more time to view.
This was truly a beautiful spectacle to behold!
It looks like a great time was just driving through and was able to see some amazing veiws
Kimberly love s the Green hills love always Kimberly.
Gorgeous. Keep the trees. Dont bring in any theme parks like where I live.
Beautiful for hiking and taking in the scenery and wild life. Relaxing.
What an absolutely amazing drive through this part of New York/Vermont. We were on vacation in Virginia and wanted to take a less congested route with more scenery and it brought us through here. We live on NH and we have the White Mountains but these mountains were unbelievable!! Sometimes the fastest route is not always the better as we can attest to.
Beautiful scenery along with miles of roads and paths
Would love go back & spend more time here.
Very beautiful. Need 6 stars...
This place is absolutely beautiful. This was my first trip but we will definitely be goikg back
Great food, very friendly service, beautiful location!
Awesome, can't wait to go back ♥️
Had a great hike on the Harmon Hills trail, off of Rte 9 near Bennington. Very steep climb over the first half mile, led to a scenic overlook of Bennington. Total hike, out and back was 3.4 miles. Loved every minute of it.
During all for seasons a great place to visit it's every changing landscapes.
Nothing like mountain top views. My first visit to Vermont was fun.
you have reception on most of the mountain actually and the falls are very pretty.
These mountains are awesome. Just riding the motorcycle thur them was great Glenn in pa
Shot bow here and went fishing with good results Lots of trails
This is a great little forest and it's right off the road and you can get right there and nice hiking trails
Took the Small Pond hike trail and while recent heavy rains made for some muddy spots we had to bypass....otherwise a great 3.1 miles to the Pond and 3.1 to return. 6.2 miles was a good hike!!
Nice hike to an old quarry. Not very long, but pretty steep. Good for a short family hike.
Why would anyone other than maybe Trump give a National Forest leas than 5 Stars??? But seriously the Greens are a range you need to pull over and get on the Long Trail for a few miles to really appreciate. Or drive down a dirt road and find one of its many gorges, pull over, strip down, and launch yourself into the cold waters. Just make sure it is safe first. VT has nice plaques that keep track of the people who die swimming at each of their famed swimming holes. I dont want to see your name added to the list.
Love the Green Mountain state where I was born and raised. Our state parks have a lot to offer.
Breathtakingly Beautiful, the scene and the hike
Awesome place to hike, or just enjoy the surroundings if you are into photography You couldn’t choose a better background for pictures winter, spring, summer, fall. My favorite’s winter and fall
Great trails, easy access, complimentary binoculars in some spots.
A great place to hike and camp not far from Albany.
Beautiful place to visit. Bring bug repellant Mountains lakes and pristine rivers surround. Moose and other wildlife sightings Are common
Great place to hike swim camp
They say Vermont is beautiful, but it is way more than that. Get off the interstate and drive highway 116 & 7 through Bristol. Not only the mountains and trees, but the road goes right through the biggest "hemp" farm I've ever seen! People are super friendly up there. Salt of the earth.
Pristine, beautiful, great trout stream. Vermont at it's best.
The colors were beautiful everywhere you saw oranges and reds lovely place to visit my family's there that's why I was there and I had a great time bye
Terrific Forrest, winding roads, peaceful, inhale the beauty!
Great place to relax. Just make sure to bring bug spray!
We camped at one of the free sites, no amenities, but beautiful scenery. A river for splashing and fishing. Nine varied campsites.
Stayed at a campsite here. Surroundings were peaceful and no one bothered us. Really pretty forest.
Awesome hike up to the Stratton Fire tower for sunset. Mother Nature did not let us down. Almost 5 hr round trip. Snowshoes could have reduced the time.
Of the two National Forests in the Northeast, this is a gem. It's a great place to go explore, has some actual Forest Service Roads and hidden treasures. Go check it out.
Lovely views lovely locals make the whole experience great
Lots of places to get lost in the best way. Perfect stop if you prefer your nature full of trees instead of people.
Stop dealing narcotics in our beautiful beautiful woods, and the rest of you go back to the jersey side of that cess pool and take your speeding garbage-tossing headache with you. This was the garden of Eden. Now we have to be suspect of every weirdo.
The Green Mountain National Forest has well-maintained trails with a good variety. I was hiking on the Appalachian Trail/Long Trail, but did notice several side trails off of the main trail, including bad weather routes for some of the more technical summits. I saw several beaver ponds, fire towers with beautiful views, and lots of wildlife.
This is my home away from home. Love so much all the views that Stowe and the Adirondacks have without the crowds.
We stayed in Manchester which is a town in the forest. Highly recommend for a weekend getaway! Especially from New York - it's very peaceful and provided much-needed stress relief
Just flat out amazing
Love these mountains. Great for hiking and connecting to nature. Watch out for ticks and slippery rocky terrain.
This place is just stunning, no matter which way you look.
Always loved the area especially in the fall. Foliage is always excellent at this time of year. Lots of inns in the area. Many of these ends serve top-notch food. A few of them can compete with the best of Boston restaurants.
Great track, Western view is eye catching.
the trees towering above you providing a relaxing shade. Everything feels at peace.
We took the scenic bypass the runs 36 miles of the most beautiful scenery in the heart of vermont. Route 100B has some very picturesque views. The Green mountain state certainly lives up to its name. Absolutely beautiful state as a whole. If you like nature, hiking, swimming, biking, camping, fishing etc. Its the perfect state to enjoy those things in.
Deer Leap Trail to the overlook- amazing! The trail is well used and totally worth the trip. My kids and I hike it once a year, at least. With kids, usually takes about an hour and a half. Be sure and wear shoes that are good for hiking, and depending on the season, waterproof or you don't care they get a little muddy. Our trip today, 9/3/19, there was mud.
Townsend State Park was great. Beautiful area.
Not gonna Lye. We had a great time.
It is true beauty right in the midst of the forest "If you so choose." and peace and solitude reside there. Additionally don't miss out on the Adirondack Trail for hiking.
The colors are spectacular this year !
well marked trails and multiple w routes of various difficulty levels to go up. in summer it is beautiful green all around and the vista from the summit is excellent, which is apparently quite common in the region. the only negatives were (1) on Sundays some mountain bikers share the trail and they don't slow down for hikers, and (2) the main trail to the summit is halfway between a natural trail and an asphalt road - more like an abandoned road project with dirt and stone chips all over and there are power lines and lights (for skiing most likely) all over, which reduces the beauty of the mountain.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Green Mountain National Forest. It is very beautiful here, the trees towering above you providing a relaxing shade. Everything feels at peace. The mountains in particular look magnificent. A great place to bask in nature's glory.
Beautiful! The drive through here was spectacular. We saw the leaves changing. The colors are vibrant. Unfortunately the day we planned to hike we got rained out. Would love to spend a little more time here in the future.
It's a nice place to take a drive to visit the state park and all the fishing holes indifferent spots up on Woodford Mountain. You're out for a nice drive want to see scenic route the Green Mountain National Forest is beautiful so is the scenery it's a must if you're in the area.
Wonderful nettles! The best?
The state of Vermont does an excellent job of maintening, curating and allowing natural change within the green mountains. A vast range of national forests and state parks, connected by honking trails, sparse north and south roads, and small quaint villages. This region is for the rugged wild, cute bed and breakfast, small antique stores, glamping at state parks, and time with spotty to no cell service. A great adventure region to connect with nature.
I live here! It's beautiful!
Glad I got to drive through this little area of our country. So beautiful and unique compared to a lot of places ! The only thing that made my journey disappointing was getting stuck in the mud due to it being mud season ( didn’t get that memo) but it’s alright because atleast I got to see the Green Mountains !
Amazing peaceful walk through the wood what else to say
Beautiful trail, beautiful day!
Vermont is so beautiful. One of my favorite places to hike.
Go camping up in Vermont every year love the campsite South Londonderry Vermont Army Corps of engineer
Such a beautiful place. Lots of hiking trails through beautiful forest and over sometimes rugged terrain. Cascades of water, native plants in their native habitat, animals from chipmunks to bear it's just gorgeous. Plenty of places to stay from ski chalets to Airbnbs on working farms. My favorite is the Larson Dairy Farm in Wells.
Would like to see more wildlife habitat improvement projects....would be nice to see trails and kiosks explaining the different old homesteads and how they came into the national forest. This is what they have done in the Finger Lakes national forest.
Green Mountain National Forest is mostly overlooked by the tourists who go for the most well-known names. Therefore, it is an uncrowded gem. Check out the various camping sites.
Beautifully smooth, yet mountainous topography
Very beautiful very scenic Gifford Woods State Park in Killington is an awesome Campground with showers had a great time and visit it again someday
This is a beautiful place! We only stopped here for a little bit on a long road trip. But we will be coming back for sure in the future to properly explore.
Three letters....WOW! The activites and sights to be seen are mind blowing! From the rolling fields in the Valleys filled with horses, cows, wildflowers and meandering rivers, too the mountains peppered with waterfalls, Falcons, Hawks, Bald Eagles, moose, bear, deer and porcupine. Absolute paradise! There's an activity for all seasons. The green mountains are ever changing. From the mint green spring foliage to the inferno on autumn foliage. I honestly couldn't tell you what time of year is my favorite. Every day I experience something wonderful in the Green Mountains. From sunrise to sunset the sky, fields, rivers, lakes and mountains play a game of Hackey Sack with the sun. I have a favorite spot to view sunsets. The show lasts for about 2 hours. I generally camp at this location but at the very least, I bring an assortment of cheeses, bread and crackers, olives, sardines, cured meats and of course, Vermont brewed beer! Vermont is the second least populated state in the lower 48. When I sit on top of one of the highest peaks or soak in a secluded crystal clear swimming hole, I feel the peace of the Green Mountains. Thank you Green Mountains! Please, keep in mind, you should plan for ahead for weather that pertains to your time and location. Do your research and plan accordingly.
Beautiful ! Nothing else needs to be said !!
Had the good fortune to ride this area with friends on our bikes (motorcycles).Breath taking scenery.
Really nice, but can't they do something about all these trees?
Great place to hike for both man and dog.
Beautiful as usual. Drive thru it you will see
Please go to Vermont in your life time! The hiking, the people, the food, the country side and the Green Mountain National Park! I prefer skiing in Colorado but the summers and fall is fabulous.
Beautiful mountains reflected on the still water, well kept fascinating trail, ample opportunities for picnicking, swimming, hiking, and great lean-to's for group camping.
We had no idea where we were. Just driving down the highway somewhere and stopped to admire the gorgeous scenery. I wish we had more time, but we had to get back to driving.
Maybe there a little early. Most trees were orange, and red but not as vibrant as pictures. Still worth the drive.
We hiked up to Hamilton Falls. It was a serene 6 mile up and back to the parking lot. The bugs are bothersome but views were pretty.
Big park many sites. Some better then others. Call ahead at least 2 days
Three hours from Boston and great views green mountain national forest is a magnificent getaway for the at heart naturalist. Free camping sites are found a long forest roads. Go to the green mountain national forest website and download their motor vehicle use maps for roads open to cars.
Beautiful New England...four Seasons of Fun to be had!
Nice remote get a away, but with nice amenities.
Great place to see fall colors. Watch out for weather. Sometimes the rain here spoils the fun and you cannot drive up to the scenic toll roads due to cloud cover. But on a sunny day, this place is full of life.
This is a huge stretch of land, not one place nor one town. The air is more clean here, less traffic, less people. Places close early. Actually gets dark at night so one can see stars, planets, other sky objects and shooting stars. Sometimes northern lights. Respect for land with not tossing litter out or down on the ground. The vibrant colors of fall leaves are a tourist attraction. The winter snow season is loaded with sports. Mud season is slippery and the time to visit sugar shacks making fresh maple syrup. Sitting quickly followed by summer which usually is a bit more cool than lower elevations...
The peace and Tranquility of the Forrest nothing beats it.
The Summer views are shades of green, not the panoply of colors in the Fall, but it is still impressive. The mountains roll across the horizon, and the trails are challenging.
I would love to say my experience was great but the truth is people have been squatting in the area I like to hike and scout. Every year it's worse. I don't understand why this is legal. They are dumping there wast in the Brook. Throwing there trash in the woods or simply leaving bags of trash on the side of the road. Texas falls area is a beautiful area. It is such a shame to see this happening. If people want a camping experience go to a came ground with showers toylets and trash removal. There should be no overnight camping!!!!!!!!! Wish I knew who I could contact to ask what the hell???!!!!???
Great hike in the winter but tough weather conditions
Some of the most beautiful breathtaking views I've seen in my life have taken place in Green Mountain National Forest. I'm proud to call myself a Vermonter at birth and Green Mountain National Forest reminds me of why I love this state.
It's green. There's mountains. Nationally known. Some forest.
Sommerset Reservoir is rarely a disappoinent. The tucked away headwaters of the Awesome Deerfield River is situated in GMNF 's southern forgotten corners. So nearly a motorboat to be heard during the week and weekend alike. 6.5 mile dirt road keeps the General masses away. And that's why I love it so. 1500+ acres and not a house on it
Great mountain biking trail network.....lots of variety. Trajl markings could use some upgrades
Just a gorgeous place. Outstanding views
A beautiful forest and mountain range. Great hiking and fishing!
Beautiful, guiet and everyone around us was very nice.
The highlight of our East Coast vacation. Go mid fall for the best colors.
Nice people fun fast ride
To be apart of this Excilerating EXPERIENCE, was the high light of the whole trip!! Breathtaking, God's creations
Really mellow forest rangers. Beautiful landscape. Well maintained roads.
Canty Trail in great shape up to summit of Blue Ridge Mountain .
If making a trip to maine/new Hampshire, take the kancamagus. The mountains alone are worth the trip. Breath taking views. Bring your swim trunks as there are swim holes cut out a long the way. Pull over and jump in.
Lovely and cold. If you want to visit you need to come in this time frame (about 2 weeks) in the middle of September. Within three weeks there will be snow and much earlier the colors will not be out
Nice area with lots of activities to do outdoors.
A lot of beautiful trails. Love it!
Born and raised in the green mountains. Totally love
I just cannot say enough good things
A must see if in Vermont. We went out from Wisconsin and were so impressed by the sites and people. God willing we will be back.
Breath- taking beauty ,of the green mt.s.easy to access, great marked trails..
Very expansive terrain.
Great trail, beautiful scenery
Quiet, most peaceful place for me to watch the animals.
One of the best scenic drives in the North East
Only one word can describe this place... BEAUTIFUL!
This is the place I call my home. This is the place I feel most grounded. The most connected with God. What a blessing the Green mountains are to Vermont and the United States
The panoramic views were absolutely amazing. The fall colors, STUNNING.
Vermont's Green Mountains are beautiful in the Autumn, wonderful place to explore
Great place to get away
, mountain views, Vermont farms, rivers, waterfalls, very beautiful place no matter what time of year you visit
White Rocks Hike. Great out and back 6 miler
Super friendly staff and very informative
Very green forest. We saw a moose track. There were a lot of mosquitos/deerflies and the trail was a little muddy/overgrown but otherwise it was great! Wear sturdy shoes and lots of insect repellent.
Most beautiful forest in New england!
This place is beautiful and endless adventure possibilities. Went to the Adirondack trail and cooled off in a beautiful creek. Lovely greenery and natural beauty. A must see!
Beautiful! Lush hard wood forests and crisp clean rivers and lakes
Beautiful!!! The leaves were changing and it was just beautiful!!
A very beautiful place with observation areas and decks.
We love visiting here in winter, nice well mannered people, the tubing after a hard day on the slopes is a blast for all. Reasonable prices and parking.
We visited the forest to go to the Dorset caves. So cool. Looks like a pretty extensive trail system for off road vehicles. Cant wait to go back!
If you want to experience American wildlife, this place definately will give you many good examples.
The scenery is amazing. Clean, cold water and little islands to explore.
Great view of the surrounding area.
Hamilton falls was an arduous hike. The first two miles was easy but the last was Rocky and straight up. I would bike the first 2 then hike the last. $4 for adults and $2 for kids.
Awesome hike into Bourn Pond. Easy to moderate hike. Trail is well marked.
Took the family here to see the water fall but unfortunately my youngest couldn't make it pass halfway. What we did see was great, well kept and clearly marked trail to the falls. There was ample parking and many little side parts to take a look at on the way.
I hiked the Mt.Stratton. The views are just breathtaking. Quiet and peaceful!
Stop reading this and go see this wonderful place!
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Green Mountain National Forest. It is very beautiful here, the trees towering above you providing a relaxing shade. Everything feels at peace.
Very beautiful. Perfect New England scene.
Beautiful natural landscape for biking, hiking, or just to enjoy the beauty of nature. There are some great general stores if you like local products like maple syrup, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, VT cheese, or many other items. Going to the VT Green Mountains are one of my favorite places to visit.
Get in touch with your inner peace in nature!
Place was quintet but should be able to stay longer
Thee green mountains are very beautiful. There are hiking trails all over the place for all abilities
The wife and I visited the Green Mountain National Forest where the CCC Camp was supposed to be, but the forest was so overgrown with trees and scrub brush there was hardly a trail to walk on. We Bush whacked our way through most of it to end up at nothing but a dead trail twice. We did however enjoy the river that flows alongside the "trail". Very disappointed with the conditions the park is left in. We never did find the CCC Camp remains and ended up leaving sweaty and covered in ticks.
Traveling all over Vermont beautiful.
Great hikes for a ranger of skill levels.
