One of the better state parks in Vermont. What helps set this place above the rest is there are no campers, no cars (other than a few park vehicles) to disrupt you. The lake sites are really great. Trails to the far side of the island offer nice views of both VT and NY for both sunrise and sunset. The lean-tos are well taken care of and are worth the extra money on longer stays or inclement weather. Bring a bike to help cruise the island quicker.

Camp on Burton every August during the Leonid meteor shower. Beautiful setting with lake, leantos and paths to explore the island. Would give it 5/5 stars except for the raccoon visits last year. Since racoons can carry rabies, Parks Dept should relocate the raccoon population before some pet or child gets attacked and has to undergo treatment. Every night, raccoons would visit each lean to crashing pots and pans. We always prepare camp as if in bear country but we still lost hours of sleep as the group of raccoons moved from campsite to campsite. When they found food, they fight over it waking up half of the island. We lost hours of sleep chasing the racoons off with rocks and firewood.

What started as an accidental booking turned into a wonderful anniversary weekend get away. We managed to get a lean to that was on the waterfront; perfect for kayaking to our spot. Only a short .70 mile kayak trip from mainland to our spot. Our neighbors, while close, were nice and there were trees to separate us. The island is accessed only by boat or ferry. If you have a layak or canoe its a lovely trip. We also kayaked their 3 miles of shoreline and encountered a paur of osprey at Eagle's Bay. Amazing sunsets and pop-up thunderstorms proved calming while hammocking in the lean-to. We even had a loon visit our site!. With clean showers and bathrooms, friendly staff, and quiet nights, this is the best camp value ($81 for 3 days/2nights) you can get for waterfront and beach access away from cars and mainland hub-bub.

The first night was fine but the second there was an extremely loud and obnoxious group drinking at the marina until well after midnight. There was no one I could call and no one on duty. You’d think a state park would have a bit more control in place. Might come back for a day trip but wouldn’t stay in the cabins on the weekend again. We talked to the FPR staff the next morning and they were professional and refunded our money. I’d still avoid the sunset cabin unless you can sleep through noise but a beautiful park.

The gem of VSP, a truly unique treasure. This is a NO vehicle island which makes the experience even more unique. You can hop on the Island Runner ferry from Kill Kare State Park which services the island exclusively or come on your own boat, canoe or kayak. The marina accomodates both campground camper's boats as well as those wishing to visit for the day or stay on their vessel. The docks are well kept, recently updated and there is almost always someone nearby to lend assistance. There is a pump out service but they do not sell gas. The island is a rich habitat for small wildlife, especially many species of birds. Be prepared with water shoes if you plan to swim anywhere other than the camper's beach. The island is referred to as 'the Rock' for a reason. There are interpretative programs through the season, a favorite if camping kids, fishing is allowed all over the island and there are various trails, all easy to navigate is there is no notable elevation on the island. The waterfront lean-tos are the most sought after, each with a westerly waterfront view to take in the stunning Lake Champlain sunsets. They also just built three new ADA accessible cabins for those who prefer more of a glamping experience. There is a small store on the island offering breakfast, lunch, ice, beer and wine and a surprising variety of food stuffs and camping needs. The staff is top notch, warm and friendly, well-informed and someone is available and on island 24/7. The facilities are some of the cleanest of any state park I've visited; there is a LOT of pride put into this park. Just don't tell your friends...it's Vermont's best kept secret!!

(Translated by Google) Perfect stop for boats. It has everything: warm, nature trail (small small) perfect to stretch a little, recycling, waste, drain, water, shower, ice, groceries surprising given the smallness minusculité and even a good burger mushrooms, Swiss cheese. What better! So relaxing. A true getaway not far from my Vermont home. Ferry and Park staff are curtious and have a drop off service for your gear. Peaceful, island exploration and semi isolation. Camped wih children and a dog and all had a great visit. Will do this again and again!

My favorite place to camp. Only recently has there been any problems with raccoons or other nighttime visitors. Showers could use some work. Since there are no cars, kids can bike with no worries. Bright stars at night and so peaceful & quiet. The store has random hours that often don't match the posted hours. The sunsets are a must-see.

Wonderful, beautiful park. Come out for the day or stay a few nights in their clean and comfortable tent/lean-to sites. The island Runner ferry is a safe and reliable way to get to a little piece of island time here in VT
