This place always gives me a new perspective on things. The exhibits change frequently with great new arrivals.

Karen Schuster

Andy Warhol and TransAmerica exhibits were awesome!!!

Steve Smith

Really cool exhibits and very friendly staff.

Alexander Jarnow

Pleasant surprise for a small museum, the building itself it a work of art!

Jacqueline Carter

Went on the grounds to take casual family pictures with our cell phones. Beautiful photo opportunities. Please note that there is a fee to take professional pictures at the Witte.

Louie

A cultural gem. Surprising the Chamber of Commerce doesn't champion this museum as aggressively as they promote other places. A membership with this museum certainly does give you a feeling that you are contributing to something larger but don't expect a warm and fuzzy community feeling when you go to members-only events. It is clearly an inside clique. That aside, this is a very good place to get first-hand exposure to original pieces of work that you will only see in certain places in this country. The grounds are beautiful and The McNay mansion is breathtaking.

Rhonda Garza

An AMAZING art collection and beautiful location. Fascinating history. Staff is very friendly! So many great art works here. Beautiful grounds. This truly is a hidden gem.

Jonah Guevara

Great place for weddings and other events. Beautiful art, building and grounds. Very well kept. Gorgeous pond by the main entrance.

Christopher Fairchild

One of the nicest museums I have visited in the country. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, and all kinds of art displayed in an amazing setting. You owe it to yourself to go.

A Bal4

What a nice surprise! We're new to the area and love art museums. This one was easily accessible in terms of finding it and parking. The kids enjoyed it and didn't feel like they were watched constantly. The artwork collection was beautiful. Then finding out this was a personal collection in a personal hime made it even more special. Top that with the Tobin library and collection, it has now become a favorite that we will have to visit again!

Benjamin Resendez

Great exhibit of Andy Warhol's portraits.

I can easily spend all day here. Check out Larry Mills Silver Spur Camero.

We recently visited this museum, for my son to take his in your pictures on their grounds. We paid at $30 permit feet for him to be able to do so. From the time we got there we were circled around by the grounds attendant. Once we were there for about 30 minutes my son informed me that he needed to use the restroom, so I waited at the door as he entered inside of the lobby and asked the location of the restroom. However, he was greeted by an attendant they told him he couldn't be in there. He politely said "ma'am my mom has paid a $30 permit fee for me to take pictures, and I just need to quickly use the restroom." (Meanwhile other people were entering to use the restroom and not stopped once) She then looked at him, and said "Did you not see the one outside?" He was so taken aback, I'm sure it was the look on his face that alerted her that she had just offended him. She then told him "Well, OK you can use this restroom." My son used the restroom came out but was really ready to leave. His excitement for his Senior pictures was gone. As a military family & new to this area I probably will not visit this place again do to the treatment my son received. It is a beautiful place... But not worth the less than professional customer / guest interaction. Perhaps it was his braids, or the dark complexion of his skin that made the attendant speak to him so demeaning and caused the grounds keeper circle around us... (as if he needed to keep his eye on him). I too was very offended. My son is a very respectful, he is an honor student, with a college scholarship to play D1 football and Track. But he was made to feel as though he did something wrong by simply asking to use the restroom...wow

Letslie Aguirre

I love the different events and variety of exposition during the year. Thank you for supporting local artist/musicians.

Oscar Montiel

The museum closes on Tursdays but their beatiful lawn's are open. Plenty of parking and handful of visitors. Grab your favorite book, headphones for your music and a bottle of water... spend a couple hours and RELAX!

Bora Atinc

It's so amazing. Art and cultures, modern designs are together. Ofcourse you should visit.

Rahkyt Redux

Amazing art. amazing house. The people who work the rooms are the best people to talk to. They love their jobs and are just as interesting as the artwork.

Matthew Martinez

One of the best experiences I've had with an art museum in a very long time the staff was absolutely courteous but very intuitive and knew so much about the art ...I had an amazing time and am going to be being my friends and family for a visit so they can enjoy it just as much if not more than I did

JG P

Beautiful museum with so much to see. Traditional to modern art, something for everyone.

Marco Rodriguez

Meseum was shutdown due to power outage.... and personnel were courteous on situation

Dale Miller

Wow, what a treat it was to view such terrific art by some of the world's greatest artists. We saw pieces by Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, and the like. Our company held our Christmas party at the museum and it was a huge hit with everyone. The staff were helpful and friendly, while the venue befitting a sophisticated and elegant celebration. A must-visit San Antonio destination.

Christine Cisneros

It is a San Antonio jewel. The building is a beautiful old mansion and its grounds has art work that you can enjoy as you take a leisurely stroll. And its collection of modern art is second to none. Check their web page for dates when access to the museum is free

Brenda Robertson

We weren't sure what to expect from a "Museum of Contemporary Art", but we had a free morning and decided to check it out. It is amazing. It is in a beautiful old mansion and has a diverse select of art . There was really something for everyone. There were sculptures out in the gardens (unfortunately, it was raining hard during our visit). They had automotive art, theater art (costume and set designs), glass, and representatives of all styles and periods of art. We only had a couple of hours, so rushed through towards the end. During our week in San Antonio, we hit almost all the museums--and this was among the best.

Alberto Saucedo

It's got pretty scenery. they always have good pokemon raids

Eileen Eiden

This place is wonderful!! I was looking for indoor active for Sunday afternoon. The group was use the hot temperature outside. Admission was free since it was first Sunday of the month. It was a plus if you are on a budget for trip. The art was wonderful. The house is fantastic. It is amazing how much art is in San Antonio. There is such a mixture of it in this building. Grounds are beautiful. Wish it wasn't so hot. Only negative info is staff. A lot the younger staff did not know how to answer our questions. We had to look for older staff for help. I wish someone told us about the renting listening device. It would of been helping.

Donna McCulloch

Beautiful grounds and building and the calibre of the art on display is inspiring and uplifting.

fattyfatty boombalatti

Breathtaking building with a wonderful selection of art by famous artists

Carey Smith

Beautiful grounds. Lovely place for photos. Friendly staff inside and on the grounds.

Brett Davies

Came here for my girlfriends birthday, we both enjoyed the visit. I truly have no appreciation for the more recent works of “art” they had exhibited there, but the museum/location itself is a beautiful place. The courtyard is very well kept, with lots of details to observe. The exterior grounds are also a nice place to stroll around, and take it all in. They asked us if we were students (we both are) and gave us the discount without showing ID’s, and that brought the total down to $30 for our admission; so that was nice. The staff does kinda hover around, I assume to make sure you don’t touch anything. They just do it in such an uncomfortable way, like passive aggressive night club bouncers- just some smiles would’ve made all the difference. An older lady with dyed red hair on the second floor, said hello as we walked by, then proceeded to give a short history of the sculpture my sweetheart was admiring; that was great.

Rather B Fishing

The docent was wonderful! She used to teach at Alamo Heights, and was very informed about the artists and San Antonio.

Michael marino

Good art museum with revolving exhibits.

mike owen

First time going. Not an art lover. This place it's amazing!

Jeremy H

Meh. SAMA has more personality.

Francis Anderson

I typically do not give a 4 star, however, this place is to die for. Wow! I am still amazed.

Trina Green

Nice ambiance. A great place to introduce oneself to fine art. I enjoy seeing things I studied in college that are now right before my eyes. The museum brings wonderful traveling exhibits. So, give it a looksee.

Bailey Anne

The grounds and building are just as breathtaking as the artwork. The staff is knowledgeable and really care about the art. As a teenager, I got in for free by showing my ID. I had a wonderful time and would recommend this to anyone near San Antonio.

Steven Rommereim

Beautiful setting. Wort a stop.

Elvia KaChenChai

If you like to photograph this is the ground send the museum to do it at they will charge you $20 but it's well worth it :0)

Aaron Perez

Is a wonderful place. What to say thank you for celebrating my uncle Brad Braune

Alex Moore

A lot of Andy Warhol pieces. If that's your thing, you'll enjoy. The fountains are nice and there are some nice pieces of art throughout the museum but my party and I were underwhelmed. The LGBTQ+ section was great!

deb Sanchez

Free on Thursday evenings. Live music out on lawn, great for a casual first date.

Amanda Lasley

Love love love this museum! I was able.to lose myself in the beautiful art and felt refreshed after leaving. The McNay is a great place for people of ALL ages any day of the week!

Kaila Quinn

The pieces that are curtated are beautiful. With indoor and outdoor exhibits.

Ryan Ruyle

Beautiful space for artwork. The museum combines Ms. McNays home with a contemporary art space. There is a wide array of art from well know artists alongside rotating art exhibits. Tours from docents are helpful and enjoyable.

Ranch Girl 360 living the dream

This museum has gone far away from the classic art that used to be a show peace in this magnificent home. The home has been disfigured with an addition that does not come close to the architural beauty of the original home. It now a monstrosity of the groutesque. The pieces on display which I will not refer to as art are like graffiti on a restroom wall. I was more impressiwith the local children's art display. I am notified by the distasteful and obscren display of genitalia and what could be considynothing more than an effort to embrace alternate lifestyles. No longer a place for children. I was most offended by the representation of Jesus Christ on the cross. Will not be back.

Roberto Soto

If you love art or simply just admire beauty, this is a museum to visit. Not only do they have a great standing collection but they also get amazing traveling exhibits. The grounds are perfect for photo shoots and they have very regular events in the museum and on the grounds. They even offer free general admission Thursdays from 4-9 pm. A must visit!!

George Segovia

Very lovely and lively atmosphere. Prices are very affordable, especially if you're a student.

Victoria Oettel

Beautiful little museum, not too big. Currently has a nice exhibit on pop art. The collection of art deco bottles is also beautiful, and housed in a gorgeous room. Also many of the regular exhibits are curated by theme, such as 'land & sea' which makes a refreshing change from the usual categories. Expensive, but recommended.

Denice Vargas

They have such a vast collection of artists and works. The architecture combines classic and modern styles beautifully. I didn't want to leave

Raina Oster

Beautiful place and the grounds ar eopen even after the museum closes!

Steve Mach

Lovely Spanish revival mansion, now museum with wonderful architecture, gardens, art. We have been many times & return often.

Thomas Fackler

A quaint museum with some pretty cool stuff. Good for walking about on some green. The stuffiness and pretension are mostly my own, but the McNay is willing to supply some for free to the casual visitor.

Danny Rosado

Very unique modern museum! Family love it

Dawid Usarz

Nice local museum worth checking if you are around.

Tim Munoz

Awesome place... bought the family pkg for my wife and I for the year. Great exhibits and beautiful art.

Lady Delilah

The McNay is truly beautiful. The staff is so friendly and kind. My only hang up with it is that the house part isn't handicap accessible. I do understand why though. My father was just very disappointed he couldn't go see some of the other exhibits.

Thomas O'Brien

We went to see the classic cars and art exhibit. The cars were gems! I liked the Cadillac Fleetwood and the Tucker the best with the Packard convertible just behind. Sorry there was no Studebaker! The artworks were well chosen, but I am a Car Person, so they were lost on me. This was another quality exhibition from McNay. A plus was the visit by the Vette Club.

Alicia Nicole M

Absolutley love this place I work with a catering who does events here (lots of weddings) The staff is amazing and well the museum is as well.

Marie Stawarz

We’ve come here several times for their free evenings and always have a good time. They have a nice selection of art set on beautiful grounds. I love that they have an addition for sculpture as well. Will definitely be going back again!

Aribella Peters

Beautiful Gallery. Outdoors and indoors. Their exhibits were cool and the artwork that I saw was either creative or...pardon me....modern..

Turtle Lover Gonzalez

I was here for a memorial service. The venue was appropriate. RIP B.B.

David Newton

This is a fantastic museum. I came for the Andy Warhol exhibit and was very impressed by the overall execution. The permanent exhibit is also very good and provides a valuable glimpse into the history of the region.

britany schwoch

Whether you purchase a ticket or not, there is still a lot to see. The outdoor space is beautiful with flowers, water features, and artwork. There are free days I used to take my daughter to occasionally. The museum is usually very quiet and is easy to get lost in art.

A Y

Totally a hidden gem, thank you Ms. McNay for sharing this place and creating a great space for modern arts to flourish. The house the exhibitions are a total inspiration and very relaxing. It's a must see for any art lover.

James Klein

The McNay Art Institute is an amazing and beautiful museum. They have lots of volunteers helping and greeting guests as they arrive. The exhibits are entertaining you can spend the day there looking at all kinds of artwork.

Beth Shepard

Small, intimate museun with outstanding exhibits. Knowledgeable, professional staff who are easily accessible and eager to share their expertise. Beautiful grounds! A true gem - go often and be awed!

Charlie Villarreal

I came here for a school project i had to work on, and it reminded me just how much i genuinely love art museums. So many fascinating and thought provoking exhibits, and a cute little gift shop, to. I bought van gogh socks. Lol

Sandra Carson

One of the most beautiful museums I have been to. Lots of amazing art. Incredible venue. Nice staff. Parking is a nice trek but other than. That its superb

Lo George

It’s been a while since I’ve been here. They invited me for a special Wednesday. Amazing the programs that they have throughout the week. Staff super friendly, specially Rosemary and her interns, and very educational about art and culture. You can join a group on Wednesdays for adults. Love it! Definitely I will coming back.

Marty Vasquez

Loved it! Lots to see. Good to have a membership

Zuritachi

Parking needs improvement because it is a tight spot. Other than the parking, it is an awesome place to get engaged in art and architecture as well with photography. There are many showcases at this museum that can be fun and interesting to learn. I certainly love the library. One spot to visit inside the museum is the garden. Either its raining, its cold, or hot; any kind of weather fits the outside garden and it's lovely.

Julez rizo

I got to meet the curator for the Andy Warhol museum, Jose Carlos Diaz at a lecture he gave at the McNay and it was marvelous! The portraits exhibit has been my favorite so far and I can’t tell y’all enough how much I enjoyed it. Very cool to have some of that pop art in San Antonio.

Kenna Bush

Excellent sampling of art through the ages. Family Free Thursdays with live music and food trucks on the grounds are always fun. The McNay never disappoints.

Drew Borgstedte

The have a nice exhibit but it is a bit pricey.

Logan Mathew Jung

The variety of exhibits here is astounding! It’s cool to see impressionist art in the same building that houses modern art and sculptures as well! I enjoyed the exhibit so much that I decided to become a member. Looking forward to the next exhibit.

John Pozadzides

Far and away my favorite at museum! If you adore old European art, with photo-realistic paintings of religious depictions - THIS IS NOT YOUR MUSEUM! But if, like me, you cherish modern art, you're in for a treat! This is the finest museum of it's kind in Texas, and one of the best in America. Visit it!

Ed Schneebly

Top tier art museum of the city with fascinating exhibits. Free days are a plus, about 4 Picasso's on display. A must go if your an Art nerd!

Jeannine Qualls

Beautifully landscaped and a relaxing place to go. The Museum itself and the story behind it are amazing.

Andrew Tschoepe

They offer unique and beautiful art exhibits. I went for the Worhal and TransAmerica exhibit, both were excellent and include a live painter, painting portraits of themselves most days in the TransAmerica exhibit.

Rebecca Barnes-Hogg

Beautiful architecture and top notch ary collections. Beautiful outdoor garden as well. Worth a visit.

Charlotte-Anne Lucas

This museum is a jewel. Despite its relatively small size, the concepts behind the special exhibits are easily on a par with New York.

Erica Garcia

Had such a pleasant Sunday strolling through this museum. It was a free Sunday, paid $10 bucks to see the Andy Warhol: Portraits exhibition. Original fees are 20 bucks for adults, 19 and under are free! The idea of strolling though this beautiful historic mansion AND enjoying master art is a must for those that need a break from life...or a little inspiration. I sat outside in the patio for a while, then by the fountain in a little wooden pergola and left as a 5pm wedding was about to begin. (They close at 5 on Sundays.) Parking was pretty easy(and free) although I can see how it can maybe get packed...and it was a bit difficult to find..(well, not really, it's on New Braunfels St., but there really isn't a sign on that street telling you where the entrance is. I missed it and had to go back around. I found it that second time.). There is a cafe inside....but I didn't check it out. There are plenty of eateries around though... Can't wait to go back.

naudia rodriguez

Love love love it! So pretty, great place for pictures and just a great variety of art and culture available.

James Clements

Went to the Andy Warhol exhibit and it was fantastic. It was really well done.

Ivon Gonzalez

Loved that the parking is free. It was an interesting visit for my first time going. It's good if you are into art. Some pieces are really cool, others not so much.

Jessica Pena

Absolutely love it here. The grounds are always clean, people are cordial, the museum is gorgeous. Whether I'm admiring the art, reading a book in their library or just enjoying the scenery the McNay never disappoints.

Marcus Rutledge

Very relaxing place. Staff very nice and helpful

Jay R

I love the McNay. It's a five star place. The grounds are (This used to be Brown or. Voice to text, you gotta love it.) lovely and the patio area inside the structure itself is wonderful. The koi are beautiful to look at and it is very restful to watch them swim. Like many other museums they have permanent collections and transient ones. one of the temporary exhibits that did nothing for me other than to increase my appetite was a statue of a lady made with Cheetos or similar product. The McNay earned three stars for this review because a year ago was when I visited, and now Google wants me to do a review, the place was under construction. Or destruction depending upon one's viewpoint. I have not been back to San Antonio since then but I certainly plan to visit this place again when I do. If Google asks me when I visit it the next time then it will be a five star review.

Karla Cruz

Great museum and everyone is so attentive and informative about the art.

Mario P

I love this museum, the Andy Warhol exhibit was inspiring.

Sylvia Borjon

My favorite museum! It's bigger then anyone would have imagined. It has some wonderful Art work, a great gift shop, and a wonderful landscape to sit back and relax.

ivana amaya

Very beautiful to take pictures for weddings party's sweet 16 very amazing

Carol Wittman

Loved the car display. Brought back memories as a child how big cars were. Enjoyed the opportunity to sketch the cars. Hope to frame the masterpieces.

The Archmage

A lot of amazing art pieces there.

shauna davis

Breathtaking, beautiful property and interactive art. Their collection of pieces and eras as well as artists is vast, and something to appease any art lovers interests. Thursday is HEB family night so also take the opportunity to enjoy free exhibits for the whole family. They do accept donations so please help contribute for the future generations.

Barnabas Kneill

It was a morning when rain was threatening, so we elected to spend it at the McNay Museum. Because of our membership at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, our admission was free, as the McNay is also a member of NARM (North American Reciprocal Museum). The house itself is quite the gem, and information throughout the mansion gave us a feel for the era in which it was built and the San Antonio society of the time. Great tile work.....elegant stairs..a classic Southwestern fireplace....a charming outdoor garden and fountain space...By the entry area was a loop film of various movies that featured cars....an upcoming exhibit at the museum that apparently now is showing. There were unique contemporary art pieces throughout the museum, including photography, fabric, painting and so much more. Imagination was just pulsing through the place! One room also had an incredible glass collection.Very nice gift shop.....Just wish I didn't feel so bombarded by Frida Kahlo stuff....Friendly and helpful staff members throughout.

Linda McLaughlin

Wonderful! This is one of my 10-12 favorite art museums in the US. I have been coming here off & on for the past 35 years. I live in San Antonio & every time I have guests from out of town I bring them to 3 places for sure: Alamo, Riverwalk, McNay. Keep up the great work, McNay!

Wesley

Great place to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning viewing well known historic artists and artwork.

Candice G

Went specifically to see the Transamerica/n exhibit on the free general admissions night, which meant our tickets were only $10 each for the highlighted exhibits. The exhibit was incredibly inclusive and exactly what I had been hoping for, with the infeasible Nicki Lucio doing live performance self portrait art. She spoke to us for a good amount of time about herself, her work and her experiences and it was by far one of the most valuable experiences of my life so far. I would suggest the McNay definitely take advantage of any other artist interested in doing performance art or live painting as a part of their pieces.

lana banana hammock

Beautiful grounds, amazing art collection, staff was pleasant, gift shop was not overpriced. And admission was FREE thanks to HEB (FREE H-E-B Thursday Nights (4−9 pm): FREE general admission.) Definitely worth the time!

Alan Fagan

Beautiful, well kept museum with exquisite art and artifacts

Tyler Clarkson

Beautifully maintained property that is an historical piece of art in it's own right. Amazing artwork and polite staff. Worth every penny!

SENG CHUIN LU

Love this place. An ideal place to spend the afternoon. The place opens until 9pm? So you can always visit after work. The HEB). They often have special events every other week. :)

Kimberly Eggett

Loved our visit! It was out of the way from where we staying downtown, but I loved their special exhibit on Chicano art. They had some beautiful pieces in their permanent exhibits, including Diego Rivera and Picasso. The piece titled Strange Fruit 9 (I think that's what it was called) was eeriely beautiful and powerful. I appreciated the QR code that led to more information and added multimedia layer.

Chris Mich

Is a beautiful display of so many talented artists of past and present littered across the entire property.

Rebecca Hopp

Fun toddler programs and wonderful artwork. Grounds are beautiful and a great escape inside the city.

Barbara Smith

Great place to visit, view art and take in the scenery. Beautiful grounds and museum. Look online for those weekend specials.

Chase Hoffstadt

The building itself is as much of am art piece at the exhibits within. They have new exhibits almost every month and it's just a good time.

Terzah Horton

Really nice collection of contemporary art. The Andy Warhol portraits is worth seeing. The Native American exhibit was small and fairly limited. The glass collection however was great. The contemporary paintings were also excellent for a smaller city. Best of all we hit a free family day today and the mueum was worth every penny!

Terry Ernsberger

Definitely visit here! The McNay has a fabulous collection of modern and other art set in a magnificent former Spanish inspired mansion. The architecture is as wonderful as the artwork. For me personally, I love it that they have an Edward Hopper painting. For a calm, relaxing respite, sit and gaze in the central garden. Great time for the entire family.

Titan Sign Company

Highly recommend. Check out American Dreams: Classic Cars and Postwar paintings.

Ren Wright-Trapino

McNay Museum has an excellent collection of the great Masters paintings such as Ben Shawn, and Picasso and Monet. I went for a special Spotlight Celebration featuring my art students from Notre Dame who were involved in the Student Art Show surrounding their painting by Diego Rivera titled Delfina Flores. They put on the most spectacular presentation allowing students to get up in front of the audience to describe their artwork and their mediums and their processes. They displayed our students' work so beautifully in a glass case so no dust or fingers could touch our hand-sewn, batiked pillows with the Delfina image painted on them. This is the most amazing Community friendly, family-oriented Museum you'll ever experience. It's totally worth your time. I especially like to see the beautiful Courtyards and Gardens surrounding the museum.

Nancy Rodriguez

Loved the Museum and it’s commitment to diverse experiences. The museum staff is exceptional!

Diana Molina

Place is totally overrated...staff was very rude to my husband and myself. Wont be coming back and will be sure to spread the word on your customer service treatment. Just because we are not dressed up doesn't mean you treat people any less or better because they are wearing a suit and tie..smh we are residents of AH. Thanks for wasting my time and money.

C C

The McNay Art Museum is one of San Antonio's gems. The mansion turned museum is a pristine structure to walk through and enjoy the art that adorns its walls. I especially love to sit in the serene courtyard in the middle of mansion when the weather permits. Their website not only provides information on their exhibits and events but also when they offer free general admission.

Marshall Artistry

This place was absolutely amazing. I loved the layout of it and the variety of art offered. I wish I lived in Texas so I could visit often. Well worth the trip

Image Makers Hair Studio

Very interesting!! Picasso, Rivera, Cézanne, and The best: a short information for each work of art !!

Elver Gonzalez

Awww yes, The McNay Art Museum. A sometimes forgotten hidden gem in our wonderful city of San Antonio. This place is perfect for old school picnics, and by old school I mean don't forget your ol' table cloth and be prepared to sit on the St. Augustine grass under your choice of tree. The vegetation is very lush and gives birth to many small secret burroughs enshrouded by nothing but trees. Oak, mesquite, willow more oak; are the kinds of ancestors one will encounter. The fountains and Spanish style clay roof atop the museum will give you a sense of euphoria. The art is fun to look at and interesting for those who appreciate it. Thursdays there is no admission fee, so if you are on a budget due to multiple guests Thursdays are the day for you. Enjoy!
