REVIEWS OF Houston Zoo IN Texas

Plenty of things to do for toddlers. Specific area indoors where they can play house, explore through small caves, and “fish”. Petting zoo is at far end of the zoo so I recommend starting there first or else your kid will likely be wiped out by the time you get there lol tons of cool animals and you can’t beat their Zoo lights during the Christmas time!

Suzanne Ruege

Get a zoo pass. It is definitely worth it if you live in the general vicinity. It makes it a lot more palatable than the 20 dollar admission fee per adult. It is also nice to have because sometimes, parking is absolutely impossible, and you're forced to leave without visiting. Aside from the occasional parking fiasco, this is a nice and shady zoo. They also have St Arnold's beer, which I cannot fault.

Stephanie Lopez

We absolutely loved this zoo! There's tons of shade so it wasn't too uncomfortable during our visit. The place is very clean and the staff is friendly. We went in the evening so a lot of the animals were out because it was cooler but we didn't get to finish the exhibits. We will definitely come back!

Rachael M.

They thought of it all! Kids petting zoo is really cute. Lots of animals. Showings of feedings and baths. They have nursing rooms, family bathrooms and a couple different restaurants and food stops. Expensive, as to be expected. Not busy if you go during the week. Staff was friendly, the few interactions I had. Everything was clean.

My daughter loves the Zoo. We became members a few years ago because she lo es it so much. We go at less 2 or 3 times a month.

Danielle Talmage

I bought my family the Zoo Membership because there’s never enough time to experience all that you can at this zoo in one trip. Love the added discounts on food and merchandise as well

Tiffany Luna

I absolutely adore coming here. I love hanging out in the bird area to look and adore their beautiful angels they got there. So much to see and they truly care for their animals. The employees are so nice and will go the extra mile to get you what you need. I look forward to the new exhibition they have built for the Bald Eagles and the other animal babies. If you want to see more and go out to relax' giant, eventful Hermann Park is right along connected! ♥

Bryant Aguillard

Amazing place took the family this week and I was highly impressed. Beautiful place and very friendly helpful safe. They have so much to do there the zoo is huge they have almost every type of animal, it’s located right next to a huge park also that is beautiful. There are other place for kids around all around the zoo and park , I would highly recommend go here if around the area

Lei Talia

Bought the membership and I'm telling y'all bypassing the lines in the heat was well worth it. Great views and very educational. We will bring a drink cooler next time as many of the service booths we closed. Wonderful overall and we will return.

Andrew Gerhards

Lots of gorgeous animals. Lots of shows to attend. Definitely could make a full day out of it if you wanted. But the Houston heat makes it near unbearable to walk through until you get to some of the enclosed areas. They could do with putting up some large fans and misters throughout more often.

Adrian Lewis

Always love going to the zoo. Got there about 10:45 and have a hard time getting a parking spot. Saw the dinosaur exhibit. It was good but wouldn't go to only see them. We went for the animals. We saw lots of cats this time and birds this time. It was hot, so make sure to drink plenty of water.

Cathy Hansen

This Zoo is amazing and very well shaded for Houstons heat. So much to see and do. Highly recommend.

Frances C

My family and I had a spectacular day@ the Houston zoo. It was very hot but with all the chill zones the Houston zoo has helped out a lot. I loved that the cafe had a nursery room. I usually have to nurse in the restroom,so thank you for that.

Tammy Killough

This place caters to all. The handlers are very nice and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend it. It has a cool down port where anyone can stand in the water. Heavenly!

Humair Imam

Take the day off and enjoy nature. Especially the snakes. The African green mamba is exquisite. There is noting like the green and the black mamba, they will stare into your eye and catch your soul from behind the glass. It is an awesome experience staring into the eyes of the nature’s most aggressive killers. Then there are the beautiful birds singing in most beautiful voices. It is peaceful. I had a lot of fun, I felt like a kid walking in the rain and enjoying the views of what God has created. I would like to see more local Houston, Texas wildlife, insects, snakes, ants, etc in the zoo. I would love to contribute towards the local wildlife exhibits of Houston and/or Texas. Thank you for a beautiful and a safe environment for everyone to enjoy.

Dustin Ayres

We loved our day at the zoo! The Houston zoo has so much to offer for kids of all ages and abilities. We are sad that we missed our chance to feed the giraffes, but we will do it next time. We enjoyed the traveling dinosaur exhibit and can’t wait to see the next exhibit that comes in. We had so much fun we became members so we can come back again and again.

Kim Richard

Really like how close you get to the animals! Go early. They open at 9 am and we were able to see all the animals out in their habitats.

Trista Patterson

The exhibit is ALWAYS worth the extra money! Even with our big family, we still splurge on the attraction. The Houston Zoo has never disappointed me with their exhibits! I absolutely loved the Lego one and the kids really enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit. But you lose a star for parking. We are from "Houston". We spent 2 days at the zoo this last week. The 1st day was just driving around looking for a spot to park... for over an hour. After scouting the massive amounts of parking right at the zoo AND the nearby areas I'm aware of, we left with crying kids and cold lunches packed in thermals. The next day we returned determined! After a MUCH shorter trip around all of the parking lots and spots, we parked at the Museum of Natural Science parking garage and paid a whopping $20!! That secured us a full day of fun at an amazing zoo! But seriously consider a parking garage (if zoning allows) OR VIP/Zoo Membership parking spots for people that pay for memberships to the Houston Zoo or any Zoo. Make it the back lot..... we'd still be ok with it.

Jessie Sasser

This is a great place to visit with your family. I live about 2 hours away and tend to travel to Houston on business but when my family is with me we always enjoy visiting our old friends the elephants. The animals are great! As for parking I would get there before they open up at 9am or plan to wait on a parking lot row for someone to leave. If you just have to get there later watch for people leaving. I always have luck with people walking streight to their cars and leaving. Overall it is a pleasant place to visit. There is also a free park and pond to the right of the zoo entrance that has paddle boats and wildlife that will eat out of your hand. Bring a loaf of bread for the ducks, squirrels and turtles. Have fun and enjoy your time there.

Erika Garcia

It was great for my kids to enjoy even though they accused us of trying to sneak someone in and that someone has to pay immediately! Of course once we showed all the tickets again got by without an apology from the racist girl! Cause i know she referred to us as "wet backs".. Just because I'm an adult and know I'm born here showed my children the better person I am by simply letting her know that God loves her and I walked away!

Robert Weaver

The zoo is well ran and cleaned with plenty of "cool zones". They have a nice and knowledgeable staff. 3 things to note... 1. Parking is horribly inadequate. Show up early. 2. They are on the "straws are the root of all evil" trend and therefore have no straws available in the zoo. If your kids do better drinking out of a straw, bring your own. 3. The food is over priced and under whelming. Bring a lunch.

Harish T

Houston zoo is great place for family outing and lots of things for kids. It’s located near park so people can enjoy park and zoo both. They have some great membership plans. If you are member then you get to skip line and get faster entry. One thing I don’t like about this place sometime it’s hard to find parking. Specially on weekends or holidays. There are lots of animals and rides for kids. In my experience I feel they do take great care of animals there. They also do nice lighting time to time. I would have given 5 star but took one star off for parking.

Octavious Chacon

Just a great place to go. The kids love going to see the animals and explore. The Zoo Lights in the Winter are gorgeous! There are also so many other events through out the year, like Zoo Boo. Getting the Family membership is really worth it!

Arif Williams

Great place to take the kids. Try feeding the giraffes. Zoo lights are also fun but it can be difficult to see some of the animals.

Michelle Cortez

I absolutely love it, I just wish some cages where actually big to fit the animals. Yes is a zoo. But Houston is big we should be mindful of them.

Emma Buchanan

I felt like a kid again. Large zoo; Many animal species. Loved the Gorillas, the fish aquarium, the elephants. A wonderful day at the zoo

Aaron Gatchell

Best zoo I've ever visited. Usually I hate zoos because I feel bad for the conditions the animals are kept. But not this one. Very clean, very big, beautiful landscape, well kept animals with ample space to roam. Great price my niece got us in on military discount! Would recommend anyone visiting Houston!

Melanie Davis

Many exhibits and all the animals look lively and happy. Great activity for fun with the family or the little ones. There are options for feeding the giraffes, watching sea lions do tricks, and learning a lot about the different animals there. Pro tip, try to make it early. After noon it's just too hot for everybody, even the animals! Make sure to bring snacks and water!

Jill Gibson

We love visiting the Houston Zoo! Always a fun trip, and we seem to discover something new each time we go.

Jenna Mekena

OMG! I never knew how Houston Zoo is such an amazing place I’m here right now and it’s so cool! and I was highly impressed. Beautiful place and very friendly helpful safe. They have so much to do there the zoo is huge they have almost every type of animal, it’s located right next to a huge park also that is beautiful. There around all around the zoo and park , I would highly recommend go here if around the Houston area I can’t believe I’ve lived here and this was my first time here so great!

Katie James

What an Amazing zoo! Such an array of different animals and the scenery is just beautiful. It was like walking through a rain forest and the dinosaur part was just an added bonus! Would highly recommend for both families and couples alike.

Natalia Turull

I loved the animals, but I was disappointed that they no longer had the Bengal tiger. The water fountains were also scarce for it being so hot here in Houston. However, it was still a wonderful experience nonetheless. Parking was free and relatively convenient. Had a great time.

Nichole Birchfield

Great time as a family of 3. We went on a Monday morning and it was quiet to start and was just the right amount of busy into early afternoon. It was slow enough that our 2 year old walked the whole time. Ate at the cafe for lunch and it was a great meal! Healthy portion, my husband and I shared the muffaletta. Zoo keepers were entertaining and you could.tell they love what they do. We enjoyed the sea lion show, petting zoo, and elephant bath. Great first zoo experience for my son, we will be back!

Cameron Phelps

Very attentive staff and interactive with exhibits when prompted. Lots of stations to keep cool or cool down, which is nice with the Houston heat. Unfortunately a lot of the animals weren't out when we were there, but hey, it's luck of the draw sometimes

Mungara Mahathi

My kid is 18months old, she loved looking at animals in the Zoo. Houston zoo has wide range of animals. Their Giraffes and Elephants collection is huge. Zoo is very clean and they have lot of places where we can sit and relax. One of our close friends arranged their kid's birthday party last year and the loction was Pavilion. It was really good and fun. In near future we want to plan our kids birthday party their too. Children's Zoo is our favorite, we get to touch and pet farm animals like Cow , domestic goats etc.Houston Zoo is one of the best places to visit to entertain kids for a whole day.

Paul Muri

The best professional group program in Houston. Highly recommend joining as a member or Flock group. Makes sense after 2 visits a year.

Gina Morando

I went for the first time and am officially hooked. This zoo is absolutely gorgeous. The animal enclosures are so well done, creating large and comfortable environments for them. Every staff member I encountered was helpful and in a great mood, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I can't wait to visit again!

shelby carter

So many different things to see. Many of the exhibits allow you to get really up close views of some amazing animals. Several air conditioned areas to check out. Stoller rentals available. Free parking.

Donna at coyote demolition

We enjoyed seeing all the animals and attractions, but most of the animals were sleeping or hard to see, mainly because of the heat, they were hiding in the shade and I don't blame them. But all the prices were really high for everything, a drink for $7, and as hot as it was, we had plenty of drinks. We were happy that they had a splash pad for the kids though

Shelby Ferry

A lot of the animals could use habitat updates or modifications. We could barely see any of them as they were all hiding deep in their enclosures that seemed too small for them anyways. It’s also a very strange location for a zoo, right near downtown/ city life

Laura Meyer

Got discount tickets so it was pretty good for the price. Hot day, but lots of shade so not bad. Animals not so active the later in the day it was. Too hot for them.

Brandon Garrison

I haven’t been to the zoo in ages, but I was so glad I got to go to the Houston Zoo. There are tons of exotic animals (it’s a zoo, right?) but the best part is when little events go on around the park, like feeding the giraffes! Only downside was the heat, but you can’t really control that. Amazing experience 10/10

David hammond

Fun zoo, on a hot day. The animals were active and most were visible which is always nice. Price wasn't to bad, left our home zoo membership pass so didn't get the discount but luckily it was only 2 of us.

Luca Gracia

Always a great experience here at the Houston Zoo. It sprinkled today and there were plenty of places for cover. All the animals were out and moving around. We were lucky. It's definitely a place to visit with the family.

Fernando Martinez

This place is surprisingly great! Growing up in Seattle and San Diego I got spoiled by two amazing zoos but after trying this place out for the first time months ago I saw how amazing this place is and how deceiving it can be based on it's location. I had a great time but more importantly my kids had a great time, there is a splash area and the kids can run around and cool off while you sit and rest up a bit! Quickly became a member which paid for itself after our second visit. 4 hours away and I still make the trip Everytime I have to go to Houston.

Tish Norman

Always fun to be here. The animals don't have much space to roam. It's kind of sad really. My daughter enjoys the splash pad and petting zoo.

Fatai Oladimeji

Nice arena. Put on light dress during summer to help with the heat. Many of the animals of interest were sleeping while I was there around noon. The place is quite full and getting a parking space was very difficult.

Fernando Alfonso, III

The Houston Zoo is certainly one of the best attractions the city has. The exhibits are all maintained and the facility is kept clean. I became a yearly member which allows you bring one guest for free every time. That value paid itself off in just three visits.

Lux Vivimus

This is a great place to visit for anyone, especially kids. It's huge and it's easy to wander around for hours exploring new things. The exhibits are nicely kept, many animals to be seen. The dinosaur exhibit is extremely life like and its shown that they put a lot of effort into creating it. Definitely check that out, it's an amazing experience. There are facts about each animal listed next to its exhibit and many places to cool off, eat, drink water, take a restroom break etc. The parking isn't too great but it's possible after a bit of searching, and luck, to find a spot. I'm just a little bit biased against the zoo because its truly saddening to see these animals that should be roaming about, just laying there (especially the wild cats) because their enclosure isn't big enough or they have nothing to do. Other than that, they do a pretty good job of giving information with talks with the keeper or during feedings. It's a great place to go and if you do go, be prepared to have a lot of fun!

William North IV

The Houston Zoo is a fantastic place for families. It will be a very educational experience for children of all ages. While it is very hot and humid during the summer months, there is ample shade and cooling stations. Getting there earlier will also make for a more comfortable experience.

Terry Pierson

Wonderful zoo! Large variety of animals. They appear to being treated humanely, as humanely as cages/pens can be, but that's the price of conservation and education, I guess. Staff is friendly and informative. Plaques give good blurbs about the animals. Went for my 28th birthday and fed the giraffes, so not just a place for kids (though may want to avoid peak times in the summer, or be bombarded with kiddos).

joyfully cute

Great place for all! The new renovations are amazing! Had the chance to se extremely closely a grisly bear! The tiger was roaring, the lions is another animal you can also appreciate closely. Is a great experience! Love it!

Isaac Aguilar

#1 recommendation: Bring your own cooler with wheels, filled with plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and snacks. Family of 5 and was the best recommendation I picked up from another guest that recommended the same.

Mariana Fuentes

The Houston Zoo in this time of the year is the best. My students enjoy not just all the animals, but the weather too. Also thanks to Verizon!!! They gave us free popsicles.

Michelle Mahone

Not exactly what I was expecting. I guess I expected too much. The splash pad was a hit tho and my 2 year old loved watching the elephants bathe. Some of the animal enclosures made me sad tho. Those cats in such small enclosures really got to me. In all honesty we left soon after that so not much else to comment on. The grounds were clean and there was adequate cool down areas. Not bad at all.

Greg Marsalis

First time I've been back in many years. While the signage has been updated can't say the same thing about the exhibits. On the positive side it was clean and free of debris. I was disappointed to see how expensive it was : yet I realize feed and care of the animals isn't cheap either

Ernie Keessen

The Zoo is a fantastic place with new habitat for animals. It is a good place for a family visit.

Megan Bohnet

Phenomenal! The atmosphere is great! The staff is friendly and informative. The animals are beautiful and the dinosaurs were the icing on the cake for my 3 year old!

David O'Brien

I had fun, and I was not eaten by an animal. Overall, I think that is what one would expect. The zoo exhibits are a bit short on animal quantity, but the zoo itself was nice, with plenty of seating and shade.

lydia garcia

My son and I are members of the zoo. He loves to see all the animals and specialy the aquarium. I'm glad they made a family room. Breastfeeding moms can have some privacy. They are making a new section. Can't wait to see it

Teresa Bello

Free parking lot, great food inside, great Customer service and lots of healthy animals. Gift shop is fully stocked and lots to do.

Courtney Stuksa

Wonderful side trip after an appointment in the med center. Zoo was clean and the animals are awesome. They offer a military discount making it a little more affordable too. I would suggest taking your own food because theirs is pricey and remember that this is Texas. People were falling out from the heat but there are plenty of cool zones so use them.

Johanna Munoz

Great place to visit some distant relatives... Very fun place to explore but bring plenty of water with you and an umbrella on those extremely hot days. There's a wetlands being built so that should be very interesting. Highly recommend visiting this place.

Summer Murphy

I love this zoo, it's seriously so clean and beautiful, well maintained. The habitats for the animals are so amazing. They are really gorgeous and clean and animals don't look sad. There's a section for birds, bugs , area for small children to get wet on a hot day. Perfect place to bring a sac lunch and hang out all day with your family. Oh and there's also an aquarium! It's located next to a really beautiful park as well, where you can see ducks , turtles , lizards and a ton of friendly squirrels for free lol. Hermann Park is absolutely gorgeous. They don't charge for parking so that's awesome! They also have overflow parking for those days you go to the zoo and there's a school bus trip. They have a restaurant on site, a place to buy soft serve ice cream , a gift shop and more.

Toya S

This place was Beautiful... This was our first time going to The Houston Zoo. I was really impressed with the whole place. They had a lot of shaded areas and cool down spots. Staff seemed happy to be working there and were very friendly. Animals seemed well taken care off and given cool down areas as well. I loved it! They had gorillas and chimpanzees. I was so intrigued and happy to be able to see them up close. This by far is the best Zoo that I've been to. We had memberships to S.A. Zoo, but this Zoo was way better and well shaded. They have nice fun looking play areas and a splash pad for the kiddos. It was such a beautiful clean environment. Even the animal enclosures were well taken care of. I have so much good stuff to say about this place. I hope to visit again and be able to see anything we missed this visit. Only thing I didn't understand was why was the Dinosaur exhibit extra? Just to walk around in a U shape to see a few dinosaurs. Here in S.A. they're spread out and you're able to view them through out the park.

Amanda Horner

A great zoo! It was super hot but there was lots of shade. There were many interesting animals and the animal enclosures were well done. Now the non-animal stuff: we rented motorized scooters with sun shades, which was pricey but fantastic! The restaurant (the cafe) was truly delicious food, not what I expected from a zoo, and it was cool and spacious inside. Zoo staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Paths all over were wide and smooth - perfect for wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers. The Dino exhibit was neat. We paid extra to see it. Not a must-see unless you’re a kid or love dinosaurs, but we did enjoy it. Great experience.

Selene De la Rosa

The dinosaurs exhibit was really neat!!! I wish it had been longer :( . Our son loved the dinosaurs! We did too. The staff is great. We actually got a mini tour from one of the staff members who walked us over to the dinosaur exhibit, i thought that was AMAZING. Our son paid close attention and learned so much!! (3 days after the zoo visit he pointed out elephant ears plants while out and about, the tour guide taught him that days earlier!! )Overall, it was a very nice trip. We all had a great time. I'm not a fan of zoo's mainly because the animals seem so sad, but having a chance to hear stories from the staff member that gave us the mini tour gave me the opportunity to reconsider and learn. Would love to get more tours to get to know the animals and their quirky personalities. Considering a membership.

Paul Chan

General upkeep is satisfactory. New exhibits are featured every summer. The Christmas lights exhibit continues to be very popular year after year. My only complaint is why nobody bothered with posting signage pointing to the exit. What if there is an emergency requiring guests to evacuate quickly?

Amber Haynes

It was ok. Most of the animals people come to see were put up or in feeding time. No penguins and hard to see some of the animals. But for the most part it was fun

Titus Borne

This zoo is brobably the best zoo I have ever gone to. My children appreciated the way the zoo was and how many animals they had. My best part was that they have snack stations around the zoo so that you don't have to bring your own snacks

MP Ragsdale

Another nice place to enjoy time with your friends and your family. It's a nice layout and whoever designed it did an extremely good job with the landscaping as well as the placement and choice of animals. Only suggestion I would make is to go early or late if you go during the summer months.

karina martinez

Even when busy it is always great to visit since it's a huge place. But today was a great visit even if it rained. We were able to take a lunch break under cover while it rained.

Sara Henderson

I visited the zoo with children under 10yo on a 90+ degree day and we stayed much longer than planned because nobody felt too hot. There are huge trees providing shade over most paths, plus fans and mist sprayers spread throughout the zoo. Medium and large exhibits allowed viewing from many vantage points which made them feel 3-dimensional and ensured viewing of every animal. The zoo includes a petting zoo, shaded playground, carousel, and splash pad with changing rooms. Outside food is allowed and many people bring coolers.

Laurie

LOVE the kid’s zone and appreciated that it was inside the zoo confines. The kids totally enjoyed the Splash Pad, Texan’s Encounter and Carousel. Of course, each had that ‘special’ animal they wanted to see. The visit brought back many happy memories from when I visited the Houston Zoo as a child.

Julie Peters

I have lived in Houston my entire my life and I barely went to the Houston zoo this past week! They have such a diverse scenery. I love elephants and giraffes and even got to feed one. It was a little too hot for my liking but they did have some great snacks around. Will be bringing my grandkids where when they visit.

Chris J

The Houston Zoo is always friendly and a great time for the family. There is much to see and do. The water park is definitely a favorite and a wonderful addition in the late years. Very educational, you can feed fish, the giraffes, restaurants to eat at. It is an awesome time waiting to happen!

Leon Fot

The Houston Zoo has gradually improved over the past 15 years and I believe that the Houston Zoo in 2019 is truly a first class zoo and should be recognized as such. The animals and cages are basically clean all the time and the animals always seem happy unless a person is upsetting them. The facilities at the zoo are always very clean as well and the employees are friendly and willing to answer questions. Overall if you live in Houston or are stopping in Houston, it is definitely a place to go!

William Gooler

Houston zoo didn't disappoint. Only the bears were a no show plus a handful of other small animals but the zoo had signage up saying sorry and why they were not present. Even rained a few times but plenty of places to take cover.

Rose Cull

The children's area is great. I really enjoyed the swap shop. Kent can bring something they found like a pine cone, rock, fossil, feather, and swap it. Cool idea for souvenirs.

Pirozhock S Kotom

This place is very good! Huge and beautiful! Take your cooler with water and ice, take big hats, and ice packages- you will love it. What was really nice, they have chilling rooms where you can rest and cool down on the hot Texas summer. All the stuff is very helpful and ready to take care of you. They also have many awesome locations for photo shoots and very beautiful trees!

Nicole Johnson

It was my 1st time going. The only issue I had is coming from Alaska the heat was rough, maybe they could offer a few more cooling or mist stations. Other than that, I really enjoyed myself and watching the animal's.

Robert Blakeney

The zoo looked great today. Clean and well maintained. Staff were helpful and friendly. Most of the animals were out and they looked healthy.

Jesse Cushman

Very cool zoo. Lots of exhibits and animals for the kids. Good mix of outdoor and indoor to escape the heat if you need. Have good baby amenities and activities for the kiddos.

Na Li

Always my favorite place to go. It's super educational, the package deal they do for families are amazing. Definitely great deal for kids to enjoy a fun and inexpensive trip. Everywhere has water fountain and restroom, these facilities are clean and convenient. I never feel frustrated taking the kids there. They have some amazing animals and the zoo is huge! Every half a year I go there I don't feel bored. They have new animals or new fish all the time, the plants in the parks are pretty, I am very relaxed when I am there, exhausted the same time because there are way too much things to see. Love love love our zoo, proud to have it in Houston. Highly suggest parents take the kids and learn the animal kingdom there. It's a trip worth having for kids and adults!

Dan Brown

Brilliant Zoo. Lots of animals in nice looking enclosures with plenty to see. Easy to get to. Plenty of places to get food or refreshment (over priced so take what you can with you) and good gift shops. Availability of trolleys for kids looked like it made life much easier for some people. The Zoo is easy to get around and in well organised sections. Visited at a weekend and the line took some time. The ticketing booths were not in any kind of hurry whilst the line baked in the heat. Also the other gate which would have been useful to exit through was not open. This was not obvious until trying it and staff that were spoken to did not mention it. However a great attraction to visit.

Sonia Bornstein

We enjoyed our time here. Lots of animals to see. A lot of ground to cover. And especially love the military pricing. Would definitely go again.

Maria Jose Salcedo

I wasnt gonna go due to the hot weather, but this zoo is prepared for hot days, lots of trees that give shadow. Places to cool down. Nice area for kids to play and to enjoy having contact with animals. And it's beautiful. I wouldn't doubt about going there.

Lauren Jackson

Worth the visit. Go early. Pay attention to times for showings. Watch the elephant bath. And feed the giraffes. Walk to Hermann Park for paddle boats, splash pad and train ride. Parking sucks.

Krystal Nelson

Each staff member that helped us was more than helpful and nice, I think it's a bit pricey but not worth what u pay! $20+for a 3 yr old is outrageous pretty sure I'll only come back if they have specials on kids tickets

Bharath S

Nice place to spend a weekend with kids. Wish there were clearer signs to take optimum route to cover all zones as some places it gets confusing where to go next which wastes time. Cypress Cafe food was average and beverages were very expensive where just a glass of large Coke costed $7.50

Andrew DeCantillon

Great family fun, a good amount of staff to answer questions the children have. Good exhibits. Clean restrooms. A lot of shady spots.

Stacie Lynne Guttery

We are members of the zoo, and my family of 5 visit very often. My kids love the animals. The design of the zoo is very easy to learn and navigate. The new eating facility and crocodile exhibit are fascinating. I love the kids area as well, allows the kids to run and play!

Esther Ross

Absolutely amazing and fun place to come. All the educational activities were a blast. I highly recommend going through the dinosaur experience.

Lucas Brasher

Always a delight to see the numerous animals! Giraffes are a big hit with the kiddos. Also checkout the primate exhibits, if they are hanging out near the observation area you might be able to interact a bit.

Jay Street

It's a great place to get away from the house once in a while. It's over crowded at times but still awesome. The lions watched me while I was around them idk why...just wanted to say.

Jessi Prince

we got to witness the kookaburra couple during a feeding session! the Male "caught" food and then brought it right over to the female! she was so happy, she held onto her snack as if displaying her gift! they then did they famous "laugh" in the excitement of the moment. I feel so lucky to be able to these guys do what they so!

Jonathan VandenBerg

Great escape! Awesome exhibits for kids. Membership is a great deal bought a family membership so my mom can take the kids during the day. Loved the birds!

Mehrwash Faruqi

The zoo is nice , with a children's zoo inside for smaller kids. A lot of walking so keep your strollers for young ones. A lot of snack stands were closed so keep water and snacks with you. The giraffe feeding was a fun experience. Needs better maps to navigate the park, it's not as big as some other zoos like Omaha or Toronto but a decent enough zoo to spend a day at.

Destiny London

One of my 2 favorite zoos (Santa Barbara Zoo is another). It is very well staffed with friendly and helpful people. The layout is fun and exhibits well placed so something exciting is around every corner. The animal enclosures themselves are thoughtfully and aesthetically done. Lots of "chill zones" to stop in and take a seat and cool off. Hit and steamy in Houston!

We had a great morning visit to hear the keeper talk on the Clouded Leopard. Throughout our visit both volunteers and keepers were knowledgeable and friendly. The Rhinos were laying in the mud. I was so close to a Zebra! When the weather gets a bit cooler, spend a couple of hours checking out our amazing zoo.

The zoo was a really cool place. There are alot of exotic animals there. The zoo has a free day every first Tuesday of the month. You can bring in a cooler and snacks

Very large zoo with wonderful habitats for the animals. The animals are lovely and expressive. Spent three hours in shaded paths in and out of varied animal houses. The outdoor environments are full of busy and active animals.

I’ve been to the Houston Zoo multiple times. I would probably go more if the zoo stepped up its game regarding benches/seats. While there are benches/seats in multiple locations, more benches/seats are needed in SHADED areas. I found more than one place on my walk today where there were NO benches/seats, and frequent resting places (not just “cool zones”) are needed outdoors near exhibit areas in the summer heat. Misting stations or mist sprayers in the “cool zones” would have been helpful and a much welcome respite from the summer Houston heat. Also, there are not enough kiosks/stands. Kiosks/stands exist, but they were unmanned/unstaffed—possibly because there was NO COVER for staff/employees (who would have been subjected to open sunlight and NO shade if they had been manned/staffed). I suggest kiosks/stands with “cool” treats like snow cones, etc. (found at least one snow cone truck with a mist sprayer at a convenient location on a recent trip to the Dallas Zoo). Had I come upon a snow cone kiosk at just the right juncture of my walk today, you would have had my money. The last item I would call attention to would be the lack of bags for merchandise in the gift shop areas. While I understand the reason behind a no merchandise bag policy, carrying around merchandise purchased (even near the entrance on the way out and heading to a vehicle) can be darned inconvenient. I realize that the merchandise bag policy is not likely to change, but the other items I have mentioned can/should be addressed. Should you wish for me to change my rating, I wouldn’t turn down a free (value) pass to return!

Great place with many different opportunities to feed animals. It was a really good the place. It is clean and the employees are friendly the trainers really care about the animals.

Visited from out of town and stopped by the zoo, Great place for family! Would recommend! I love the fact that you could take your own ice coolers with you to keep water and drinks, really helped and saved money!

Kids enjoy the zoo a lot. They have some pretty cool exhibits. Bring a water bottle. They have bottle filling stations throughout the zoo. Also, if you come on a particularly hot day look for the"Chill Zone" signs to find relief from the heat. They will direct you to air conditioned buildings to cool off in.

We had a great time exploring this zoo with our family. As MN zoo members we enjoyed the reciprocity of a 50% discount. My youngest was so excited to see the lions. (Sadly he missed seeing the new Male lion. Aka the lion with a big beard) A thunderstorm popped up but we were able to find cover st the Cypress Circle pavilion to enjoy our picnic lunch. It was neat to see the expansive elephant enclosure. We loved that they have their own pet dog. We ran out of time/ energy to take in the special elephant displays, but found them of interest. The reptile house was a group favorite as were the bonus activities like mask making and airbrush tattoos. My toddler wore his mask for days. My oldest was sad there were no sharks- can't win them all. We'd visit again the next time we are in town.

Love it here. My son has so much fun looking at all the animals, membership worth every penny!
