Great tour, lots of fun. Take the long tour, well worth it

Brook Staeffler

Amazing family attraction! Fun hike for all ages and abilities!

Jaimy Scofield

Friendly and helpful staff.

Ben Kurtock

Family loved the tour our guide Avery did a great job would go again next time we roll thru got lots of pics but none do the place justice must see for yourselves

Alexis Tassone

It was really cool walking through the cave in a similar fashion the cave's discoverers would have. Not for the claustrophobic.

Danielle Guenther

Pros: Not crowded, we were a group of three and only one other person joined us. Staff was all very polite. Cooper, our guide, was friendly and knowledgeable. The cave was interesting and the tour lasted long enough to feel like money well spent. Cons: We had a senior (60+) with us. We asked the front desk person if the there would be any crawling or other overly strenuous things in the Adventure Tour. She said no, but did not take into account our companion was over 6ft. They spent nearly every step of the tour bent over until we made it to where the Crystal Tour ends and they had to be let out early. Continuing on, we saw that person never would have been able to continue. If you have anyone that gets dizzy easy and/or taller than average, I would suggest a different cave.

Kendel Bergen

Such a neat experience and need to see in the black hills! Guide was very friendly and informative!

Megan Hoffman

Loved the atmosphere and employees! Humor, knowledge and wonderful hosts!

Matt Novotny

Can’t say enough about this cave tour it was awesome. This should be a must for any family visiting the black hills

Sherry McCloskey

Our guide Dylan H was great! Very informative, took his time explaining about and showing different areas. Kept a nice pace for everyone. Cave itself is awesome! Be sure to wear comfy non slip shoes and definitely take a light jacket. Especially for the little ones.

Cathy Brown

The staff was very friendly and our tour guide Tanner was fun!

Christopher Love

Very cool! It's around 47 degrees but if you take the full tour you'll be sweating when you get back.

Ronica Pederson

Awesome cave and great tour guide, James was awesome!

Doug Perry

Good choice for a cavern tour. You get to travel 225ft into the mountain and explore some pretty cool caves. We wished there were a few more cool looking crystals, but it was still a great tour. Also, you can't beat the cool 47-52 degree temperature in the caves when it's 85 degrees or hotter outside!

Hannah Kroker

Or your guide was really funny and welcoming. The cavern was really cool. I lived there your, and all the facts

Jagger Backen

Amazing service and beautiful cavern.

Elizabeth Sinclair

You definitely need walking shoes if you take the long route. Tall people should plan on bending over took get through some of the smaller areas. Overall a nice way to send some time in your day. Military personnel get a small discount.

Jez Rae

Its cold bring a sweater!! Super neat!

Jeff Larsen

Very nice

Chris Russell

SANDRA EVANS

I'm sure it would have been better if the electricity was working.

Liza Timmers

Fun for the family.

Joseph Budd

Enjoy this place out in the forest. Good guides, knowledgeable and friendly.

Andrew Knapp

Friendly staff, great tour (take the longer one if you can), beautiful cave with an interesting history.

Kristin Rutt

I rarely write reviews, but this place has been one of the only places to find true, genuine customer service! The staff went above and beyond (even at their last tour of the day) to help keep our children (8,6,2) interested and entertained with the gold/gem panning as we waited for the next tour to begin (only 20 minutes or so). They were so apologetic even though we were thoroughly enjoying ourselves. Tanner is a hilarious and genuinely kind tour guide. He even carried our 2 year old down the steep steps!

David Cook

Great tour. Not crowded at all!

Shelia Butler

Guide was fantastic

Kevin

Very unique cave formations

Lena Pittman

It was educational. My family enjoyed them but the crystal tour did not have as much to see as other cavea we have seen. It was just ok for teenagers.

Teresa Clark

It was really good. James was very funny and new slot of information. He did a hreaty job

Carrielee Dahlke

Our family loved it.

Nicole Bay

The cave was very beautiful. My kids are 9 and 3, and they enjoyed it very much. Some hard spots to maneuver in the cave, but that should be expected. Kaylee was our tour guide, and she was very personable. Will go again!

Troy Molde

This was a fun adventure. We had our kids, the stairs werent to bad. The tour we took was about an hour, it was perfect. Then after we had the kids sloos for gold, they enjoyed that. This took about 2 hours. It rained the day we were here so this worked out perfect for a dry adventure. I think it costs us about 78 dollars. We had to children 11 and under and 3 adults.

Brandon Barnes

Excellent cave for kids, long enough to be interesting, but no fits from the 5 and 6 year olds.

Rich Schliep

Awesome caves. Teenage tour guides with memorized monotone script.

Igor Pavlenko

Nothing extraordinary, but kids friendly. Minerals mining for kids.

matt dasilva

Had a great time on the long tour. All four kids had fun ages 3-8 . Highlight of our trip

Rachelle Friesen

We had the most amazing time here. We brought our 7 and 12 year old daughters and this was their favorite of the caves we visited. We were in a small tour group so we were able to ask a ton of questions and learn a ton about the caves from our guide Hannah. It was obvious she loved her job and sharing the cave experience with others and she just made it so much fun for us all! After we visited the cave itself we chose to do some gemstone panning, which REALLY rounded out the afternoon. I highly, highly recommend Black Hills Caverns for families!

Sena5297

It was cool to see and learn how it was created. We did the short cave and it was perfect for the kids.

Cassie Mayer

It ended up just being my family on our caverns tour, but it was so incredibly enjoyable! Even my 2 year old loved it... it was last week that we went and he just brought it up out of the blue and statted talking about it. The tour guide was extremely nice and very knowledgeable. The walk was moderate enough for me at 7 months pregnant and the 2 year old to make it through.

Megan Gray

If you can walk the adventure tour, I highly suggest it. The tour guide did a great job educating the group and keeping us all together. Plus he gave us tips on certain areas that are more slick or lower which we could run into. I would recommend a good pair of walking shoes and a jacket!

Kelly Commet

Great gift store and well-trained staff. The tour was fun!

Chantha Choung

Definitely a must see in ones lifetime. The adventure tour was definitely worth every penny and the kids enjoyed every bit of it.

Sandi Bulman

Fun side trip out of Rapid City. Not a lot of unique rock formations but still interesting. Tour guide was great!!! Visited 8/26/2019.

Wade Johansen

Nicexstsff, helpful in finding us a good panning location, even though it was there! Nice :)

Jennifer Potadle

For about an hour, a guide leads a tour through these caverns, lit by white lights at intervals sometimes down concrete stairs or sometimes slippery paths. This was an interesting tour, and great for kids to experience. This isn't a typical stalactite and stalagmite type of cavern because of the type of rock found here and the highlight was probably the 'River of Ages' feature. We probably won't return to these caverns, but will try exploring others.

Raymond Therrien

Great 1 hr tour of the caves.

Ardan Starmoon

Awesome cave exploration for the whole family. Make sure to ask for James. Kid knows his stuff.

Dave White

The staff here is beyond friendly, so awesome and knowledgeable! Caves were awesome and the entire place was very clean! Highly recommended!!! Staff could not be better!!

Joe Gump

Great tour, fine for kids and adults

Sandra Lehberger

Disappointed, brochure said open from May to September, but they were not open on May 10th.

Diana Fowler

Privately owned caverns. Not for the claustrophobic, but fascinating. Guide was a local high school student, saving for college. He was very knowledgeable, polite, and patient with my slower pace. I tipped him a twenty.

Christopher Johns

Went to this cavern to kill some time. This is an interesting cavern, there were no singular standout features, tour was entertaining and informative. Be prepared for stairs and some low clearances.

Paul Schult

Tight squeeze a lot of steps.

TheHolmaj Holmaj

Tour was lots of fun. It was just right for families with children while still feeling like quite an adventure while being informative and entertaining for children and adults alike.

Titan halo

Fun cave tour. Short tour is only 30 minutes and easy for anyone. The long tour has a few staircases that might be prohibitive for the disabled. Definitely a worthy trip.

Terry Althoff

We took too short tour with our grandson. It was nice but the young man giving us the guide once a little quick.

Paula Sorensen

Our family thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide, Justis, was great - we had some "unruly" children on our tour and he handled it perfectly. He was friendly and funny. Gift shop had great merchandise - not your usual "tourist crap". Facility very clean with friendly staff. Definitely recommend Black Hills Caverns!

LeeAnn Anderson

Loved it! Best one to se in in the Black Hills!

Hunter Mitchell

Great I got the bucket and it was totally worth it and the cave was cool. Hope to come back in the future. And take care.

Shawn Patrick

Great time.

Tamra Brawley

Awesome cave, great tour. Family owned.

Drew Kouris

Good staff. The tour was more fun than educational. It lasted about an hour.

Bobbi Smith

Great place if you like caverns cant wait to go back not recommended for young children or first time cavers also not for large individuals or those with hard time walking...narrow areas and stairs but beautiful rare cave formations

Pennie Ballandby

Very cool

Karen Bruno

Visiting from Phoenix, we took the grandkids here. We had a great time.

Matthew Castillo

The tour was a good length, with some interesting facts. The downside was the price. It was pretty pricey, and after visiting Carlsbad, it was underwhelming. My kids did enjoy the tour, the main reason for the three stars.

Corey Dittman

We're local, but sometimes we like to play tourist. This is a great adventure place with or without kids! (Kids under 6 are free!!!) We took the 1 hour tour and kept up. The kids loved the crystal dig afterwards!

gene Anderson

Fun hike downward! Nice and cool inside!

Brent Knobel

Our tour guide Jonas was great! Adventure tour was amazing.

Tomi Cimarosti

This was our first time at Black Hills Caverns as a family. Having veryblimted time, we decided this would make the list of MUST DO! The staff were simply awesome. Daniel and the sweet young lady at the front desk were so kind and helpful to our little guy. Taking the time to answer a curious 5year old's questions and again, very patient. Must stop here if you haven't yet. It was time well spent! The only regret I have is having not taken more pictures of INSIDE the caverns, as it was simply awesome. Especially for little ones who LOVE adventure and exploring!

Erin Helvey

This is a nice quiet place, a little isolated, but an awesome cave tour and very friendly staff! The caves are well lit and mats and treads have been laid down to help with your footing.

aZ643

Great cave!

Carolyn Myers

Our tour guide, James, was extremely pleasant and provided interesting info about the cavern's history and formations. We had a very small group of 5 people, so it felt like a more personal tour. We got plenty of time to look at the cavern's features. We took the long tour, and it wasn't too strenuous. The cave is quite damp, however, and chilly, so a light jacket is helpful.

Sean Parker

Very freindly and knowledgable staff. Ms Knight was our tour guide. Beautiful cave features, kids enjoyed it immensely. Nice gift shop.

Brian Thorp

Bathrooms are bad even for outhouses felt like I was going to go through the floor. Tour guide said we had time to use the restroom and then got mad we did. Our guide was very robotic and had no personality and felt like they didn't care about the tour. Tight and low ceilings and he didn't warn of points that were extra low. Mostly man made.

Nichole Heinz

We took our three children, ages 6 and under. This was seriously the most family friendly cave we have been to. We opted for the shorter tour which was perfect for our two year old, and were greeted at the end with a free crystal mining sandbox experience. The entire building and mining area have undergone a beautiful renovation.

David Hallenberger

Easy to find enjoyable tour and refreshing cool but not cold I brought a sweatshirt actually worked a minor sweat so never used it I didnt time it but it was a hour tour

Matthew Miller

Cavern was cool, was not a fan of the guide we had. Kept talking somewhat rudely to my kids who are younger.

koren kennedy

Very fun and tons of crystals. Our guide spoke and went WAY too fast but I just went my own pace.

Cindy Henrich

Cave tour was right length. Guide was awesome and too cute! Kids did well but people having a hard time with mobility might want to pass. We did not do any other caves in the area so can't compare.

jordon Weets

Neat place to check out.

Christine Arason

Pretty boring cave compared to the others in the Black Hills and was the most expensive. Too many people have touched stuff and most of the cave is dead. The two pictures I posted we the only two cool parts of the cave. Our tour guide was not very good and didn’t know much about the cave.

Gary Smith

Fun and quirky. Owners have enthusiasm for their caverns. Enjoyable casual hometown atmosphere.

Lydia Teopas

Kids enjoyed seeing the cave and our guide was knowledgeable

Tyler Pripps

Good value. Be prepared to climb stairs and contort your body to fit through passages.
