It's worth to see the artifacts
Nice museum, especially since it's free. (We left a donation though). Its one of the only good attractions in my opinion. Most of Deadwood's historic district is devoted to casinos, which is not my thing.
A must-see family-friendly attraction in historic Deadwood! Feel like you're right there in the thick of the action as you walk back in time inside the museum's three full floors. Your kids won't just read about history, they'll experience it! With multiple interactive exhibits (including a one-room schoolhouse classroom and kinetic sand), this is an excellent educational and fun place for the whole family. Donations are appreciated (and please give if you go!), but admission is free. Don't miss it!
Great pieces of history!
Worth the cover charge. Very interesting. Learned a lot about the area, not jyst the House. Well worth your time.
Had a lot of fun and learned a lot this place is worth seeing.
A great addition to your sight seeing !
Visited this museum about 12 years ago. A lot of changes but it is still a nice walk back in history. You can now talk pictures in the museum.
A beautiful lesson of history and art
Kids place downstairs kept the 6 year old entertained. Very good museum on local culture
Spent two hours there without even realizing it. I loved the bios on famous people from the area. Some unique pieces. Way more in there than you would think. What I didn't like was trying to find what numbers by the artifacts went with which description.
I liked out there were some interesting factsand there was a play area for the kids which was great.
Add this stop to your Deadwood visit. For a small museum there is lots to keep you reading and learning about the area. There is no entrance fee just a suggested donation. Very interesting things to look at and learn about. I was here over an hour learning about Deadwood.
Another great place for western history. Plan on visiting for a few hours. Has interactive features for the youth.
Very interesting glad we stopped we learned a lot
Great museum. Even if you are not stopping as part of the pastport program I'd highly recommend it. Focuses on the history of the area as well as American history and culture. Has activities in the lower level that can challenge both kids and adults. Only saw 1 staff when I was there so it might he tricky to find someone if you have questions. Also has a small gift shop to buy stuff in
If you like Black Hills history, this is the best museum in the area. Adams was the first museum, so they collected some of the most interesting artifacts. I really learned a lot about the real history of Deadwood, and it's characters.
It's been a few years since I've been here, but I remember being very impressed with the displays.
Small but much history. Well worth the time to see. Plus they have a gold nugget and a dinosaur.
A wonderful story pl to explore and learn some really cool facts about Deadwood and the Dakota territory. Good for the whole family with out a doubt!!
love Deadwood, have family born in the town, grew up there, get a much better tour of the town, the museum is excellent, show all aspects of the history
Amazing museum. Great information, great artifacts. Good museum for all ages.
Lots of great history, great pictures and artifacts informative personal
Quaint museum, packed with information on Deadwood. Take your time. 1-2 hours, you can take in all the info.
Everyone should go once.
Pretty cool little place
Loads of historical artifacts, not just Deadwood related but lots of those too, this place is not to be missed!
Lots of interesting Deadwood history.
Awesome museum! Amazing interactive exhibits
It is okay but not necessarily centered on Deadwood history but a variety of artifacts related to city, county and state area. Even if a celebrity passed through Deadwood then there would be something related to that person.
Compact but impressive museum where they have preserved great historical items and stories of the area. We greatly enjoyed it.
Informative and entertaining...friendly staff!!
There is a lot packed into this little museum. Cool artifacts and basically free. You can’t beat it.
Awesome exhibits.. small of all types.. kids area. Perfect place to learn about deadwood and western history.. from 1970s back to dinosaurs
This museum looks small but holds so much. A very family friendly environment with lots of activities for kids which allows parents the chance to take in the exhibits as well.
The right place to know all about Deadwood!
Very interesting place. Great history. Be aware, however, that is not free entry. It's entry by donation and they tell you how much you "should" donate per person with someone standing there watching over you. They should just call it what it is. An admission charge.
It was filled with local artifacts which was interesting. However the information was spotty in some areas and oversharing in others. It is technically a free museum but they ask for a donation of $5 for adults and $3 for kids.
Very interactive and lots of interesting history
Very good
Very informative.
Nice museum with information on the areas history.
Neat little free museum with history of Deadwood. Some unique info and finds, like the numerous ICBM silos in the area.
Very worth a visit. History and hands on learning. Free with donation.
Great museum. We enjoyed it very much.
Lots of history! Enjoyed all three floors of the museum. The staff was very friendly could have stayed for hours just to talk to her.
Captures the history of Deadwood and the old west pretty well. There are a few small town items that aren't really necessary, e.g., a girl scout uniform.
Ride by but didn't go in.
It's interesting. A lot of cool history and a variety of different displays.
Great history
Good place to see and learn.
Very interesting you could spend a 1/2 day here
Great informative museum that tells you all about Deadwood history. It’s a must stop and even better yet, it’s free; although there is a donation box.
The story of Deadwood is told here in a quick and easy fashion. A casual stroll trough the different rooms takes about 45 minutes and you leave knowing the place and the people who built it. Admission is a suggested donation and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely a must do on your first visit to Deadwood.
Beautiful well laid out museum. Very informational. Wish there was more info on Seth Bullock.
Whoever loves history, the wild west and the big characters from that era, my case I love Calamity Jane and I learned a whole lot about her, even bought a book. Great interactive museum
Went here while my teenagers were still sleeping 9:30AM, imposible to get them up before that! Great little museum, enjoyed it very much!
Provides a comprehensive look at the history of Deadwood and the surrounding area. On the first floor is a look at wild Bill Hickok and the industries that built the town. Above is an exhibit on the culture of the native Americans and more modern works inspired by what deadwood became along with many maps of the area. In the basement many interactive exhibits show the natural history of the land and mining efforts. Please play in the sand!
Nice displays, very informative!
What a great museum! Two levels full of old western antiquities! The history of Deadwood is fantastic! We went in early fall and the weather was perfect! If you like old west history, you’ll love this museum! Something for everyone young and old! If this helps click like!
Very informative small museum. It looks like they are expanding as well. Wish the gift shop more unique items though.
Look everywhere -The smallest things have their stories too
Learned a lot about the black hills and south dakota history that I was unaware of. It was more impressive in person then what I saw on YouTube about it.
Great place to visit for an overview of Deadwood's history.
It's okay. Can't say much more. They have an interesting video on wild Bill
Some very good history. Admission is by donation. Well worth 5 or 10.
Great place to visit. Lots of historical items inside.
There's a lot of Kid friendly exhibits, the staff is friendly and always willing to help and give information. I highly recommend going here, they have a lot of unique curiosities in their cases!
We were surprised at the variety and quality of the items on exhibit and the manner in which they were presented. This place makes for an excellent afternoon of browsing for any member of the family. The attendant, Keith, was extremely courteous and helpful. This is the REAL Gem in the town of Deadwood.
Interesting displays of Deadwood history and general Americana. Organization is a little haphazard.
This museum tells of the history of Deadwood. If your in the area its not a bad stop.
Very interesting and alot of history
There was a lot to see in a smaller space for a museum. It was nice, could spend more time looking instead of trying to see more when tired. Some museums are sooo big especially for older visitors. Items were well marked w/ timelines.
Very good exhibits and cool history
It's old charm is well laid out to tell history of Deadwood
Great museum. Had tons of interesting items to look at.
Really enjoyed this museum. For a free will donation at the door, you get to see so much cool historical stuff. Three floors. Kids area has very unique and cool puzzles and games. The dinosaur was amazing!
Neat museum with lots of history! Free will donation. Enjoyed the pictures artifacts! Has a nice room in the basement for lots of kids stuff!
Always a fun and interesting place to visit. New exhibits are continually being developed.
I appreciated the hands on display for children in the basement
So many awesome artifacts. The only downside was our schedule. Time permitting, I could have spent hours there. Neat interactive exhibits for guests with younger children in the basement. I learned a lot about Deadwood. A+++
A lot of really interesting things in here you would have never known about Deadwood
Very good place to go and take the family to learn of the history of the area. As you walk up, it looks as if it is a old bank but it was a home. There is not "fee" for going in but they ask you make a donation in at least a certain amount but you can give more. As you walk around it tells you for the history of how deadwood and the surrounding areas started. Tells of things that happened all the way up to the late 80's and 90's. Had a good time with family.
AWSOME we enjoyed it very much. An AWSOME adventure into the past of how this town started
Lots of interesting items to see! Donation based and it's all worth it!
Always like going back ever couple months to see what's new
Cool history of the old west
Awesome!
