Nice clean beach.
Easy to navigate to, easy parking, clean Beach, and not too crowded. $12 bucks to park for out of state registration. Less for those 65 and up.
Not like it was when I lived here in Narragansett. There were adults changing into there bathing suits right on the crowded beach with children running around, right near the water to be exact. They have no shame. Plus there is WAY to may rocks in the water. You can't walk in the water without hurting your feet or falling. I hope that these thing will be corrected before I go back here.
This is a fabulous Beach for people with small children. The waves are mild the lifeguards are attentive the parking is very close to the beach so there is not a whole lot of walking with all of your stuff to schlep!!! There is a naturalist on staff all day long and Exhibits from the ocean for the children to get a Hands-On feel! that was fabulous for my granddaughters!! Parking fees are very reasonable and I will definitely be coming back to this beach for many many more years!!
A great beach to take kids too. The waves aren't very big and there is a small playground for kids. Snack bar and restrooms as well.
Very nice beach, for families.
Great for children. The waves won't knock them over. Nice sandy swimming area
This is the beach we prefer, not only for the cleanliness but also the amenities offered.
Nice small family beach.hood for smaller children.
I was so fun when I went but I just don't like how rocky it is when I get in the water
my wife and I went to the beach have been going here for 45 plus years and enjoy this beach. But when my parents took me and my brothers the beach opened at 8:00 am, maybe you need to open early.
Very nice beach for families!
Always have loved Sand Hill Cove
Clean beach with facilities. Reasonable price.
Great beach to visit before summer is in full swing and any time of the year. I prefer to go to Scarborough right down the road but this is nice too. Looks like a great snack bar here too. No dogs unless they're ADA service or emotional support and always on a leash. Playground for the kids too!
Great spot. Clean, great facilities and we love for the sunsets. If you want a day with no waves and just a great beach and super clear water, this is a perfect place. Highly recommend
Would love to get family together for long over do bonding..... beautiful place .
Good for families. Clean well maintained. Playground on site.
Would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the seaweed and the trash policy (carry in/carry out). At least offer trash cans for the food items you sell as those items aren't technically carry in. Waves were enough for my big kids but not too much for the smaller ones. Sand is really soft and the bathrooms are clean (note that the bathrooms close at 6pm).
Nice little beach! Convenient food and restrooms!
No kite flying. No ball throwing. No Frisbee. All are forbidden. No fun.
Great family beach...
The beach looks fantastic but there is a lot of sea weed, at least the day I went there anyway. There are also many rules you have to follow which are of course fine just make sure you know them, one of them is no floaties. It is very annoying though that one of those rules is no playing catch it anything like that. People near got told to stop playing catch with a football. We were stopped by a lifeguard for playing volleyball with two people, they also said no frisbees. But at least the sands nice.
Great beach for children. Nice facility and great staff.
Clean beach with food right there, playground for kids and craft area. Went a half dozen times and always enjoyable.
Not really a big beach you can go to but you can go there and it's usually never really packed
The water was clean and clear, expedited parking for season pass holders.
Safe, family friendly beach. Nice views of the coming and goings of the Block Island ferry.
Just went today. for the first time. We got there around 2:00 and stayed till 5:00..Very nice beach. Not crowded like Misquamicut Beach..
Great beach! Get there early!
This is one of the best beaches in Rhode island for kids, because of the large flat Beach area, the playground and the shallow drop off.
Excellent beach to spend the day!
The water is freezing but nice!!!
Perfect for kiddos!
First time here, really nice beach, not crowded. Waves were good too. The only down side was that parts of the swimming area have rocks, which can be unpleasant. But everyone had fun. There are a few picnic tables.
Favorite beach for my kids. I grew up having a beach house down in Narrgannset, and yes while we get passes for gansett beach which is nice and great for surfing etc it isn't a good beach for young children. I love that Roger wheeler has the playground for the kids but also the waves aren't crazy or huge so don't have to worry too much about your little ones. Clean, family friendly beach and the staff is wonderful. I've been offered help many times when I had my toddler in carrier and was super pregnant trying to drag down my tent, toys, playpen, and cooler.
Great family Time
It's a family oriented beach with few waves because of a manmade barrier reef around the Harbor of Refuge. We went today, 8/4, a Sunday, in the early afternoon, and it was very pleasant. There were some very good spots that had opened up, and the water was warm, and the breeze was cool. We prefer NTB, as we are residents, but, with a bad ankle, I have trouble getting in the water. Here there was no problem.
Very nice beach. Not over crowded. I found pretty shells to bring to my daughter.
Great especially for young children!
Always a pleasure. A family tradition of summer eating since 1973.
This is the best place in the state for both early and late season swimming as the shallow water heats up faster and stays warmer longer. It is a clean, family beach with a nice play area for the kids.
Best cleanest beach for families with children. They have a shower/bathroom area, concession stand and also a playground. I also want to add that there is less rocks to hurt your feet on than most beaches and also not much sea weed at all. Best time for pics is definitely sunset. Everything looks better at sunset. All around great beach for family time and there is plenty of parking.
Love this beach .....Family friendly
Fun family friendly beach come every year
Got there early (around 9am) on a Monday morning and it was so beautiful and not busy. Within the hour it definitely began to croud up quite quickly but it still didn't feel like sardines unlike at Scarborough beach. Plenty of parking. Bathroom with changing stalls and shower stalls (at least in the woman's bathroom). Family friendly atmosphere in my opinion as there were swings, slides and picnic tables. There were lifeguards on duty and there was also somewhere to eat. I would definitely revisit.
Beautiful beach, family friendly, fairly clean bathroom
Got there for a great sunset.
The parking is plentiful & there is alot of space to set your stuff down. Overall the beach is pretty clean with shimmering white sand.
We got through the pay stations quickly. There was plenty of parking. The amenities of the beach we're good. Although, we couldn't find any trash cans as we had bagged our trash. Not sure if they provide them or we just didn't find them.
Great state park / beach for children. Helpful tip -the free cold showers are outside, while the 25¢ per minute shower are in the bathrooms....bring change if you need the comfort of warm water.
Clean beach. Attentive lifeguards. Family friendly and great by yourself. Full snack bar as well. Shallow water waves are minimal and fun for young and old. We love this beach and go as often as we can. Even a kids center on the pavilion and a playground. Watch the fishing boats and Block island ferry come in and out of the breakwater
Gorgeous sandy beach, sometime water has a lot of seaweed. Nice views.
Nice spot for families
Nice beach, however there is no ball playing. Don't know why. There is a concession stand and decent bath house.
Water is beautiful, staff is friendly and there is a play area for children.
Large family beach, sheltered from the Atlantic by the Harbor of Refuge... rock jetties help to block big waves making it enjoyable for small children. There is a very popular playground here if your child tires of the sand and water. Large snack bar offers good selection of burgers, dogs, fish tacos, etc.
Clean beautiful water
The Eichholz family had a great time here!
Great family beach not to crowded and the beach was clean.
Awesome family day at the beach
Beautiful beach, plenty of availability for restrooms, clean beach and a ton of parking!!!
Awesome. especially at night nobody around !
Great place for kids with the playground.
Not a lot of waves a little dirty
Fine sand, clean and family friendly! Parking is very reasonably priced as well!
The beach is beautiful but it doesn't open until 9 am also people are rude and basically sit on top of you
Possibly the best ocean Beach in Rhode Island.
Very clean , organized parking .. Never a problem with customers friendly families
Always nice to go here! I wish I had time to go earlier in the day, but even late in the day is good!
A great beach for swimming since the waves are always minimal. They also have facilities close by for bathrooms and eating.
Best beach around a little rocky, but clean. Waves are just right.
Great beach, clean, play ground for children,
Great for kids, low tide had very small waves. Caught about 20 or 30 crabs. Kids had a blast!
Better than misquamicut
Great family beach!
Fun for everyone!!! There is a little park at one of the entrances. We went on a normal thursday so it wasn't too crowded, we got right next to the water. The concession stand has food from 2-10 dollars. The waves aren't too big for little ones. Very fun.
A clean family beach we had clam cakes that were very good
The location of this beach is nestled amongst some of the nicest beach homes. The beach is clean and we'll kept. The pavilion offer both male and female restrooms. The ocean water was refreshing although it had much seaweed. Although there were many people at the beach it was not congested. It was spacious enough that you can play your music and not disturb anyone. I enjoyed Roger W. Wheeler beach and will visit it again.
Great beach, Cheap parking but sometimes theres alot of rocks when walking into the water so you have to be careful where you walk. They also have a nice place to grab some food and eat . Deffinetly reccomend!
Perfect beach for the kids
Nice beach to go to in the off season. I bring my dog so he can catch some good waves for surfing.
Great place to go with the grandkids.
This is a great family beach perfect for young children because the water is not that deep for a long stretch water is nice and warm too
Good day although cloudy. Beach clean.
Pretty but too busy
Pretty clean beach but no pets allowed and have to pay for parking
Beautiful sunsets.
Great beach for little kids.
What can I say it’s a great beach.
In the evening beautiful and quiet.
The beach was well kept and the water was clean too, very amazing to live on or newr
Beautiful beach with pavilions
Great clean family beach, rest rooms & showers all very clean. Nice snack stand! Outside shower to rinse off. Parking is $12 out of state!
My kids wich they had the big waves. But if you have little ones, it's the perfect beach. Personally I love it.
Large beach with small waves. It’s good for kids, and it has a playground! It’s also not a bad place to catch a sunset
Great place for kids. They have bathrooms and a snack shack. Some sections of the beach have rocks under the water, but others are are kind to your feet. The section in front of the snack shack is the best and most comfortable in my opinion.
Great beach for family!
Good for kids, not too deep.
White sand, calm water, huge parking lot
The beach is safe for kids, big parking And Lite guard on weekends
A wonderful beach, plenty of parking, will be crowded on weekends, and good for kids. Low surf, clean & warmer water than other bay or national seashore beaches on Cape Cod. Great facilities, showers etc.
Great beach! It gets busy in the afternoon. They have breakers so the waves aren't out of control. The food is okay. They rake the beach so there isn't a bunch of seaweed on shore.
Went here twice on our vacation to RI. Very clean. Very beautiful. Only issue was, is that i bought a pair of pants, most comfortable pants i own, but not well made for the price.
Nice place to visit and walk, the water is relatively calm so it's a good beach for families. One thing to note is there are no trash cans so you need to carry out what garbage you bring in.
Great for kids. Reasonable parking rate. Clean beach.
Small sand beach, and they clearly take care of it. It was nice to watch some of the boats and the ferry coming and going, and it was fairly quiet on a weekday morning.
A great beach. We stayed at fishermen's memorial around the corner and chose this spot for our "beach day". I have to say that it didn't disapoint. We made sure to get here early and went to left hand side of the beach (as you pull in), it is a further walk to the snack shack and bathrooms but was much less busy. We enjoyed people watching, soaking up sun and swimming all mixed in with reading. We found the water warm and the beach crowded but everyone was in good spirits and was polite. We also took advantage of the snack bar (very reasonably priced) and the facilities ( reasonably clean). All in all a great beach and at only 12 bucks for the day for parking (out of state) we thought it was a great price. Get there early, use sun block and enjoy the sand!
This is a great beach to take the family. It has great facilities, well managed beaches and copious parking. It has a large number of well kept bathrooms and a very nice playground for the kids.
Awesome. Alot of seaweed when you first walk into the water but after that beautiful!
I love the beach! I just wish the seaweed could get pushed aside for a good swim! LOL
Been going for over 30 years and it never disappoints. Gorgeous family friendly
Beautiful and great place to visit
I love how soft the sand is and the breakers way out cut down the waves and the undertow making it a great beach for kids to play in the water at. They have big enough waves from the ships wake to play with their boogie boards to "ride" the waves in on lol and calm enough water to splash around near shore without being bowled over and swept out. Seems this last time though that the were a lot more rocky parts under foot instead of lots of flat sandy bottom like the last many times we've been. Uncovered by storms maybe?? Either way it's a wonderful beach for kids and families!! We love it!!
The people that go to that beach are so rude. They let their kids throw sand all over the place. Had to leave at 11:30 because we got sick of having sand thrown at us
Nice clean Sandy Beach. Life guards on duty. Small waves. Great beach for children. Adults looking for the thrill of bigger waves not so much.
Great for kids.
Great day at the beach
Clean sand, playground, and family friendly. However, lacking in commodities such as food and drink choices and clean restrooms
Extremely windy and the waves were huge!
The water is very, very rocky and lots of sea weed
One of RI's best family beaches. Great sand and placid waters. For big waves go elsewhere but for kids it's perfect
One of my favorite beaches is Rhode Island. My 2 kiddos can have an awsome time playing in the water since there are no big waves. The swings and slide add to their fun and lets them dry and clean off some of the sand before heading home.
Great day off. Fun in the sun.
Nice beach. Great for young kids.
The world's missy aggressive seagulls were very sweet today. Water, crystal clear and gorgeous. Got to see Patriots field goal kicker Goskowski. Family, 4 generations loving it.
Nice and quiet. Sure, you give up the waves, but this beach is clean and not overly crowded. Great place for family.
Great family beach!!! Fun little playground for younger kids, clean restrooms, with showers. Also a decent concession stand. And the beach is always kept up. I went there as a kid. Always great
Went to the left of the Pavilion. Way to many rocks to walk on !! We were not happy with a family smoking on the beach. They were right next to the Lifeguard, and he said nothing to them. They put out the cigarettes by pushing them under the sand. Left them. Wasn't a pleasant day !!!!!!
Beautiful Sandy Beach. Lots of bathrooms. Even a kids playground
Roger Wheeler is a great little beach sandwiched between Point Judith and Scarborough. There is plenty of parking with easy access to the beach. This is the perfect beach for families with small children, the sand is soft and the waves are small due to the sea wall about 500 yards out. There are plenty of shells and critters to find and it even has a small playground with swings and slides. The amenities are convenient with free showers and big restrooms. The food is standard beach fare,. We usually get some lemon ices (some Del's knockoff) and the clam cakes (which are more cake then clam) but are a nice way to carb up whilst you chase the shorties around trying to prevent them from going out to far. 8/10 awesome spot if your in the area
Lovely, well kept quiet beach with minimal waves, white, fine sand, changing rooms, showers, toilets and snack bar. Popular with families. Plenty of parking and reasonably priced.
Our favorite beach. Little waves for the kids, warm showers (75c) to rinse off before the drive home, playground to play on too.
A good beach for little ones. There are no waves.
I compare this beach to the beaches on the gulf of Mexico. The water is brown and filled with seaweed. The place closes down at 5:45 which seems ridiculous for the summer time. However, we got there around an hour before they closed and wasn't charged. That's a plus.
Great beach with nice sand (speaking as someone who lived in Florida too). Plenty of parking and the facilities are also excellent. Highly recommend this beach. Do bring cash though!
Good but the seagulls took someone's chips and someone scared them off but he still had the chips LOL then someone the got the chips and hide them .When the family came back he gave the chips back
It's a nice place to bring the family. Lots of things to do and everything is in walking distance.
Wonderful family beach !
Playground? Check. Easy access from parking lot? Check. Showers/changing room/bathrooms/snack stand? Check. Beautiful sand condition, not super crowded (even on a wonderful late June morning), and the water is great for the littlest of splashers/swimmers. Bring your shovels and sand buckets, leave the balls and kites at home.
This a Rhode Island state beach. Today was a mild day . Things to know: No smoking is aloud on the beach. This beach caters to family and children. Amenties are: Life guards on duty, B/R & showers. Concession stand in the Pavilion. First aide office. Ask a trash bag when you pay for parking. No trash barrels the policy is what you carry in your to carry out. Reasoning , the birds cannot feed on other people's trash. Respect the beaches and they will give back to you. A win win situation. The beach gets Bulldozed each day so the sand + ocean remain suitable for all types .Enjoy your visit and make wonderful memories for years to come.
Another great local beach.
Nice beach
Perfect little beach! Plenty of parking and easy access to the beach with multiple entry ways. Beach was nice and clean and the water was perfect. Waves are gentle due to the beach barrier, making this a great spot for younger kids.
Great for swimming without undertow most of the time.
Not an overly busy beach plenty of parking playground and one side is rocky the other is less rocky small waves great for kids that are not familiar with salt water tides and waves
Awesome public beach
Small waves for my 6 year old plus a playground. A pavilion with seafood like clam strips and clam cakes and other fried food like chicken fingers and fries and well as snacks. Plenty of bathroom stalls and showers. Free sunscreen stations. An all around nice beach. Just a $7 parking fee for R.I. residents
So clesn, kids love the park
Pretty great place for the kids .
Great beautiful people beautiful blue water alot of seaweed at the reaf but beautiful blue water
Great beach for RI!
Beautiful beach clean water fabulous sunset what more can you ask for!
Yearly 4th of July tradition we have shared with our kids for over 20 years and now our grandkids
Other than the weather not being spectacular it was a great day. Clean bathrooms, food was good, prices were a little over the top but that's to be expected
Great place for bringing kids
Smaller crowd than misquamicut , and bathouses were alot cleaner. Shallow beach with gentle waves and soft sand.
