This house is incredible! Take the tour, $10 per. If you get Lyle as your tour guide ask about the burning of the Gaspee. It ties in with a piece on the second floor. Amazing story about the founder of the estate. Lyle is an excellent tour guide.

Went for an hour tour of the house. Guide spent over an hour talking to us about the history of the house and the city. Very interesting museum.

(Translated by Google) For the American standard certainly historically valuable, from a European point of view rather small and unspectacular. Half an hour without a guide was enough. Unfortunately, there was no German audio version & the German version of the map was not very clear.

The Historical Society staff were very helpful in allowing me to find my Rhode Island attraction. What I was looking for was not at this house.

The house of John Brown.

Tess Rondeau

Great guided tour today. Really interesting family

Shawn Henry

This was an interesting home where he and his family lived for a short time and the history of the man, major historic events, and what was going on in the country was brought to life by this site. Price is reasonable and the guide was great!! Give it a chance.

I love seeing a historical home that was visited by the founding fathers. Would definitely see again!!! Thanks big guy!

Justin Kahn

Amazing early American historical artifacts, maps, portraits etc. Really a one of a kind museum, given the rarity and value of some of its ostentatious furnishings on show. Well worth a visit. Also featuring a newly added exhibit room which focuses on the tragedy of “The Sally”, an ill fated (yet all too archetypal of the era) slave trading expedition organized by early benefactors / founders of Brown University

Karl Schaeffer

Easily overlooked gem in the city--well worth the visit! Docents are very knowledgeable, humorous and friendly. Learn a bit about the Brown brothers: John, Joe, Nick and Moe!

We wandered in here on Veteran's Day and were delighted to find that admission was free that day. There were very few visitors and we were able to look around at our leisure and not fight the crowds. We kept a mental list of several questions for the historians working on the first floor, and they proceeded to share some fascinating bits of history about the furnishings and John Brown and about the history of the settling of Providence.

Came all the way down here from Massachusetts says it's opened but it's not at least up date your hours on the website. Didn't get to go I'm and I already dislike this ridiculous museum.

Ely Margolis

We bought tickets at the museum for a walking tour of Benefit Street which turned out to be a very informative and fun way to spend the morning. Our tour guide, Russ, brought us into several of the local institutions (churches, libraries, etc.) and had lots of answers for us about things that were and were not on the tour. Had a great time!

Visiting Providence, we were at a loss for what to do on a Monday afternoon. I found this place whilst trying to find a museum or something, and what a stroke luck!! Touring the John Brown House turned out to be a very good time. It was educational, but also interesting (this is coming from a fun-loving, 30-something). We elected to walk around with a tour guide (no extra cost), and he was wonderful! Never boring. He gave the tour like he was telling a story. The house is beautiful and they let you wander about and take photos too. It was not busy when we went, and we spent about 2 hours there total.
