REVIEWS OF Shanghai Tunnels/Portland Underground Tour IN Oregon

Hilda Munoz

Not sure about the credibility but it’s still fun to listen to the stories.

Joseph Salomone

Touristy, but still interesting. They talk a lot about Portland's dark history. They also talk a lot about local ghost stories as well. Would recommend it to anyone who hasn't done it yet.

rebecca seymore

Amazing experience! The tour guides where exceptionally perfect. The tour is really good even with how short it is i would do it again and again. If you want to know more about it there is videos on YouTube about them.

Darold Jackson

Informative tour with a great guide

G Lee

Freak-ing awesome! Love Portland history and this takes the Cake !

Michael Pool

The tour was very informative. Ghost adventures did not do it justice. The tour is not very long and only stays within the property line of Hobos bar but that is all you really need. The lady who did the tour did a great job and the museum she took us too after the tour had a lot of really neat artifacts. The ghost stories they have are really good and if you get a chance to talk to her after the tour about them it is well worth it.

James Kahle

Very good tour guide Doug.

sonya baker

Not really tunnels, only 2 rooms. They told us one other room was under construction so we couldn't go. Interesting stories.

Daniel franco

Great tour, more history than anything but you still get spooked

Jake Wilson

There is no actual touring of tunnels. You spend most of the tour walking on the streets or in a basement bar that were connected to the tunnel. Very misleading to say it’s an underground tour of the tunnels. If you like sample beer and hearing about history, then worth it. Don’t expect to be walking any haunted tunnels.

Mel C

Don't spend your time or money here. They cram 35+ people into a basement where the guide drones on & on about the history. They then move into the next room & same thing. No exploring at all, just 4 rooms & some stories that while interesting, could be read in a pamphlet.

Eric Reese

Party of 4 paid over 80.00 to walk through 3 different basements connected by a nocked out wall, lots of talking hardly anything to really see but junk piles of wood and stone that are "historic" to the times. No tunnels, catacombs, or anything of real interest. What they talk about you can learn on Google. Such a waste of time and money. If you decide to waste your money, bring a flashlight and a book to read during the rambling of made up stories that are made to "entertain" you. FYI no refunds.

David Wilkins

An amazing underground experience! History reveals itself with flashlights in hand!

Will Ashmore

A haunting tour about Portland's dark past. Highly recommend. I'm not sure if it's appropriate for young kids, but that's for you to decide. Obviously, it's largely about the history of human trafficking. If you're a Portland resident, you need to go on this tour.

Kristine Stubblefield

It was good information and Erica was very good great attitude

Darline McHarless

This is a really cool place to get a tour around Halloween but make sure you go during the week day and not on the weekend. Because it goes right underneath the bars and it's not really scary when you hear the Spice Girls above you LOL. The guide was really nice and he tried to get everybody in the scary mood which I liked. Get your tickets on Groupon and save yourself some extra money. It's fun but it's only worth going to once. It's better to do some research before you go so you can get a better idea of what the Shanghai Tunnels were really before.

Diane Jenkins

We didn't see the tunnels. Walked around for 2 hours and learned the history of the city. Then saw the basement of where the tour started. The tunnels were sealed shut many 30 years ago.

Anthony Pascoe

A great way to hear Portland's history; the dark, the sordid, and the hilarious. They don't hold back. Our guide talked about Portland's recent evolution and renaissance as well, helping to understand how Portland got weird. Highly recommended as the first item on your schedule as it will point you in the right direction for further exploration in the downtown area.

ken jenks

An essential understanding is provided for any one who needs to understand the economics and ethics of America. Casts light on what is happening on the streets of Portland today. Our tour was short, but in Truth did not need to go much further. One set of steep stairs 10 feet long, dirt floor, bring a flashlight. Excellent guide. Historical lesson was rated Mature only, perhaps a Halloween presentation might be ok for young children, but in a sense it would be profane to the memory of the people who were there. An essential for teenagers who will be taking part in the American Dialogue.

Cole Jensen

Very informative. It tour guide was funny, friendly, and very knowledgeable. You learn about Portland's seedy underbelly, about crimping, odd political dealings, and of course the Shanghai tunnels. The tour lays about any hour and a half total and is maybe a mile long. It does go right past voodoos doughnuts too.

Hope Arias

We did the tour tonight. It was awesome. We have been really excited about the tour for a long time. It was very informative and the tour leader was really smart and nice. We will defiantly tell others to take the tour and we will go back again ourselves.

Russell Goff

Fun tour to experience some of the old downtown Portland history. Lots of interesting stories. Not nearly as extensive and vast of a tour I was expecting in 1.5 hours... But the tour was very enjoyable overall.

Debbie Markarian

Not thrilled.I was expecting to explore more like walking through a more elaborate tunnel system, This was a basement under a hotel and restaurant. I will give it two stars because the guide seemed very knowledgeable about the history of what was going on during the olden times but honestly there is really nothing to see other than a dirt floor basement with old debris.

Michele Morgan

I was expecting to see more. I thought we would be touring the actual tunnels. But we walked a few blocks around learning about Portland's history then went into the basement of the hotel. I know ghosts are unpredictable and you won't always get contact, that being said we got a couple hits on the emf detectors, most of them in the parking lot we stopped at. And we heard a bang coming from the tunnel. That was about it. If u take the tour, when your guide tells you to take a moment to explore before trying to contact Nina you should really do that. I thought we would go deeper into the tunnels after that but that part was actually the end. My tour guide Brick was great though! He was nice and funny and made the tour enjoyable.

Randall Bragg

Not very much to it... very underwhelming visually

katherine caldwell

Very interesting and informative. Learned a lot about the history of human trafficking.

Nathan Tahbaz

To be clear, this is a scam. The “tunnels” are a basement under a bar. The tour guides begin by telling you about the magnificence of these tunnels, and then lead you under the bar to inform you that they have been filled/blocked, and the “ruins” under the bar are all that is accessible. The only history they are able to cite are anecdotes they spin as first hand accounts. There is no actual, real, visible, verifiable evidence. This would be fine if there was any historical record, or any academic research, but there is none. The tour guide will tell you that the only person who has seen the tunnels, the operator of the tour company, is writing a detailed account of the tunnels but for now is keeping it secret. To me this a the hallmark of a scam. Don’t waste your money.

Edward Bohn

A excellent tour that is true and correct to the history of the tunnels. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to learn the true history of Portland underground. The bar staff at Hobo's isn't directly connected to the tour group but, they were most helpful in assisting us as well. 5 stars.

Krystal Gibbs

Interesting stories, wish they talked about history and ghosts a little more.

Carole Brotka

History rules...keep them open!

Michael Ganz

Awesome Had an excellent time here

melissa cerrillo

Wish we could have went further.. short tour !

Stephen Lloyd

If you are interested in the stories, good tour. The tour guide was pretty good. If you want to actually see the tunnels, bad tour. We stood in three different spots underneath Hobo's Restaurant while listening to the stories. To get the feel of the cramped conditions, the guide had us mass together, and its hot down there, and then turn off the flashlights so that it was pitch black. Depending on your level of health, its possible you could pass out. There were fans strewn about - I tried to place myself in front of one whenever possible. The ceiling is low and there are pipes everywhere, and you do have to mange your body around objects and through walls, so don't bring your grandma. But the biggest disappointment was that the tour is billed with "tunnels" in the name, but we did not see any of them. Know anyone with a dirt floor basement in their house? Go hang out with them and have the exact same experience.

Lucas Whitman

False advertising. It's not a tunnel it's a basement. The only thing that gets Shanghaied is your $16. Boooo.

antmanhm delmar

Well worth the time. Interesting and Creepy tour of the Shanghai tunnels. Its Filled with history and alot of ghost stories. I took a few photos and I captured a possible ghost image in the Opium den.

Denise Sagers

Online price was listed as $13. Pay at the door price was listed as $17. We were charged $21, so that is the first scam. "Tunnels" is very misleading. I had a similar excursion cleaning out my grandma's cellar after she died, including some leaky cast-iron pipes and piles of discarded items. One of the stories talked about a Victorian Era rocking horse and doll buggy that had been stolen. The same items were on display in the "museum" at the end of the tour--clearly not stolen. Shanghied describes how you will feel about having spent your hard-earned money on such a dismal disappointment.

Peter Galligan

Loved the history behind the tunnels and the questionable pics I got! Creepy!

Cody Wood

It was fun! Got a lil warm down there but it was crazy learning about the Shanghai history off the city.

Tamy D Morse

Despite the dark disturbing history and despair that went on in those tunnels, we enjoyed our tour, it was fascinating...at one point my sister who was at the very back of the group felt someone tapping her on the back of her arm as if to get her attention....There was LITERALLY no one behind her or in close enough proximity to do that...CREEPY!!!! Check out this image that I noticed in one of my photos the next day...CREEPY!!!

Jerry Riley

Didn't bleave it but the tour was ok.

Josie Howard

I am not to happy, in our group everyone said that they wanted the ghost tour we didn’t get any of that. All we got was a history lesson and I understand that but honestly there was nothing scary or fun about this tour. I paid $28 for walking 50 feet in a basement. I’m extremely disappointed. You can get all of the information that they tell you, online. This is a complete rip off... if I could I would give it a -5 stars

Vicki Wilson

Ok- we did a "underground walking tour" of Portland- and I want to dispel any ideas that you actually go underground - the so-called tunnels have all been filled in- that being said- the tour itself was absolutely AMAZING! 10/10 with history and building architecture and really fun things to learn. The history of Portland and it's bad and good past are presented in a little over an hour with a nice walk all around and historical pictures for context.

Namire Rivera

Meh. It was interesting but had I known we would not be going into the tunnels cause they are all filled in. I would not have spent the money. Tour guide was amazing though, he had a great personality.

Andy Petersen

Our tour guide Tony was awesome very much worth it

Chelsea Nikirk

If you’re gay, don’t come here! Apparently our kind are too “wavy”. Can’t believe this would happen in Portland. Avoid this establishment at all costs unless you want to be humiliated in public because of who you love.

Avis Rimel

I loved learning about the history of Portland and the tour was awesome!!

Nuno Sardinha

Great to know about this amazing history facts!

Jeremy Zimmerman

Great tour. Creepy. Wish they allowed ghost hunting equipment.

Morgan H

Without exaggeration this was the worst tourist trap I have ever been to... It's not even kitschy fun. I spent $20 to hang out in some guys basement.

Debra Sullivan

Great tour, really enjoyed it and the guides were quite knowledgeable.

Renee True

This tour was so fun!!! I cant wait to go on another hopefully go down another level or 2!!! The story's of Portland history was fun to learn about too!!! Sorry can't post pictures.

B R S

The tour revolves more around the knowledge of your guide than the tunnels. There really isn't much to explore, but a neat tour nonetheless.

L. J. Guilmette

Informative and flexible guides, with just enough discomfort to make you appreciate what you have.

CHRISTY HORNE

Not what I expected ! Advertising promises an “under ground tour” which this is not . We did see the basement which lead to a tunnel entrance but quickly learned the tunnels were filled with rubble. We then had a walking tour near the water front. The tour guide was very nice and entertaining however I kept looking at my watch hoping it to be over .

Kevin Charlton

Fantastic tour! Had a great and informative time.

Corinna Loudon

I highly suggest visiting The Shanghai Tunnels (not just the bar with the same name, the ACTUAL closed off Tunnels running under the downtown streets) if you are at all interested in the real history of Portland. Our beautiful city has a very ugly past, and there's lots of secrets still hiding down in those Tunnels, where so many men were kidnapped and taken out to sea unwillingly. Great history lessons for all ages!

Tessa Taylor

Nicole was a fantastic tour guide. I felt that the tour covered a larger area than I was expecting. Some of these other reviews are a little ridiculous. Granted, you’re not wandering around old tunnels for hours but you are shown a large area with presentations for each section. It was a lot of fun! I suggest visiting Old Town Pizza around the corner as well. You can sit in the back booth where “Nina” the ghost apparently etched her name into what uses to be a well shaft. Super cool area rich with history! Don’t get discouraged by some of the other harsh reviews. Check this tour out! And if you’re into the paranormal aspect of it Ghost adventures did an episode on the same tunnels!

Kimi Lyford

Had a great time. We were expecting more tunnels, but the walk around old town and all the information regarding Portland's debaucherous past was definitely worth it. The guide Todd is the man.

Anne Menzies

Historically interesting. Limited access to tunnel system.

Steven Fruge

Needs to be longer. Good history and evidence presented.

Alexander Trauzzi

Good, should be longer though, would love it to be more like Moose Jaw tunnels. Guides were informed and enthusiastic.

Vicki Holman

This was a wonderful history tour. I Highly recommend.

Beeta Z

Their tour guides were very nice and informative about the tunnels. As for what they show in the tunnels, it's not as long as you would expect. They obviously show you a tiny bit of the tunnels, which I understand why since it's a little hard to breathe if you don't have fans around. You should most definitely do something afterwards. It wouldn't be worth going all the way into Portland for this. If you're a history person, go. If not really, don't go. We wanted a haunted tour, but it was not so scary at all. Overall, it was okay.

Tatianna Janeth

Great experience. I caught an orb on my picture and saw stuff for myself. Takes great patience and time and being an open minded person to truly enjoy this tour. The restaurant is a great place to wait for your tour time.

Karl Van Dam

I don't know why people are saying it's just a basement. I think there was a total of about 5 interconnected basements, significant amount of time spent underground. Well worth the relatively cheap price of the tour. Yes, the lady who ran it sounded like a robot reading from a script, but it really didn't detract from the amount I was able to learn about the history of Portland. I went in with low expectations from the reviews, but was very pleasantly surprised by the whole experience!

Jeffrey Hinman

Freaking cool!

Sana Latif

It was a very informative and interesting experience. We learned a lot about Portland’s history - the facts and the myths.

Shekhar Somani

Mostly a scam. Too much sensationalism downgrades their credibility. The idea of such underground caves is certainly fascinating, but we need more evidence. These people have crafted few scary stories around it and make money off it. Go if you want to enjoy dark passages and few historic conspiracies, don’t expect a history lesson.

Gramma Burnett

I HIGHLY recommend the tour if you are interested, it is VERY popular! Usually 10 to 20 people at every time, and as I could see them from my window

Becky Torres

This tour is not worth the expense, do your history and you can do your own tour. You walk around the city and then go down a flight of stairs to hear about some story and look some fallen bricks, no actual tunnel tour.

Peter Bonde

Amazing stories that I believe are mostly backed up by facts. Portland was a scary place back then with a vast underground used for normal things as well as Shanghaiing, prostitution and opium business. The start of the tour include steep stairs so this is not easily accessible with wheelchair or similar.

Neal McKnight

I have to give the guy credit, he is able to charge for a one hour and forty minute tour of three bar basements, strewned with junk described as "artifacts". Only the consummate flim flam man could deliver these stories in a completely earnest manner as these people do. If you are interested in a tunnel tour skip it because there are no tunnels, no artifacts, no history, no whistling ghosts and really no reason to go in the basement. If you are looking for ideas on how to setup your own scam and need some pointers on delivery and how to put the crap in your basement to use making money definitely go.

Eric Weigel

Good fun for everyone

Justin DeMars

fun information you wouldn't normally come across

Ross Wineinger

If you're interested in being told stories, check it out. The guides are passionate and weave interesting tales while putting a heavy emphasis on paranormal occurrences. It's mostly expertly crafted legends and ghost stories with a bit of actual Portland history sprinkled in. I recommend doing your research first, THEN decide if it's worth your time/money.

Josh

I had no idea things like this ever occured. I took the ghost tour. The guides were fun and informative. I was very happy that I took the chance to see this. Hobos is a great place to hang out while you wait, too.

Michael Singer

Highly recommend! The staff is awesome and the experience is even better

ShannonRichard Lyon

This is fraudulent- most historical evidence suggest Shanghai selling wasn't done regularly and the tunnels were not used for this. Not worth the time or money, didn't see any tunnels just three rooms beneath Hobo's resturant. One room leaked water from a toilet above. Lots of focus in the paranormal. Definately not worth the $21 we paid at the door.

Cecile Conner

This is definitely a scam. I send my family there to see the tunnel. There is no tunnel. Very disappointed. My family got literally got Shanghai.

Jake Dallmann

I got on my way to see this ours don't relate to the notes on the door and everything closed

Troy Carlson

The tour guide was nice but this was a 1.5 hour tour of a dirt basement. Wayyyy too long and sensationalized. The highlight was the PBR at the bar beforehand and being able to use the bathroom in the bar afterwards. Save yourself while you still can.

Sadira

Super informative! I reccomend this tour for anyone wanting to know the secret history of Portland.

Chad F.

It's an ok tour. If you've done the underground tour in Seattle, skip this one and read about the history online instead.

Cheline Jordan

If you get a good guide, this is a fun little tour. It's really cheap and there is a lot of history behind it. It's definitely worth checking out if you're in Portland looking for something to do.

Rhoda Buckley

We were scheduled for a 2 hour tour, NOT!! We left at 10:50 instead of 11am and returned at 11:50am. Our tour consisted of a 35-45 minute walk about Old Town, pointing out some old hotels and what Crimping" was, water front monuments and, oh yeah, Chinatown "red lamp posts". Then we went back, instructed to grab a flashlight (which really wasn't needed) and went to the "Basement". There our tour guide talked some and showed us "what seemed to be" a closed off tunnel. Did we go into any tunnels, the answer would be NO!! I thought this was to be a "Shanghai Tunnel" experience, NOT. Several of the people in our tour were disappointed!! If you are expecting tunnels, DO NOT GO, if you want some history of OLD Town Portland, the the answer would be YES. Our guide stated she was sorry and that she didn't usually do Saturdays, what does that have to do with anything??!!??

Mary Willett

So much history so much to learn

Sharyn Rosinke

Fascinating tour. Nicole was an awesome guide. Dug into the dark history and also helped offset it with a few jokes. It’s amazing that they are the ones keeping this history alive and working hard to preserve it the best they can. I will recommend this tour to anyone visiting Portland.

Deseri Ireland

Me and family had a great time

Carol K

Tunnel tour-Not! Make sure you fully read what your tour includes. Ours was 98% a walking history tour of part of Portland, which was very interesting. Of the tunnels, all we saw was a basement -- big let down as the tunnels were what our group was interested in. Our price was $23 each, for the 2pm tour, another outfit offered evening tours for around $13 - maybe that was the tunnel tour?? as this evening tour was described as 20 min above ground and more than an hour underground. Read the full write-up! I'd have given 3 stars or more if it had been what we had been led to believe it was. Others in the group had done a tour of the tunnels, and the whole tour was underground.

Grace Sexton

We took a tour and walked through the tunnels. It was a interesting insight to the history of Portland. It's still being involved in an live historical dig. It was amazing seeing history unravel.

augusto delvalle

If you want to go see some tunnels. This isn't the place for you. It is pretty much a basement with three rooms underground hobos bar. The only exciting things is the guy telling the story. Very well planned. I just got Shanghained to a basement :(

Westbrook Evans

We had a great time! I acknowledge what some of the reviewers said, we didn't see as much of the tunnels as I hoped and some of the stories seemed a bit embellished but I think it actually really worked. Keep your expectations open for the tour and you'll have a good time. I live in Portland and it was really cool to learn more about the city. Our tour guide was really funny and nice too.

JorGe PuGa

MustDoIfYouAreAlocal,LearnYourHistory,GoWithOpenMind.

Tina Dam

Not really tunnels. I did not enjoy the over dramatized ghost stories. I think there is important history. It just was not well presented.

Nathan Grove

It was cool but I felt let down with most of the tunnels being closed off. I understand crime is an issue down in them, but if they invested in security for the tunnels instead of just cementing them closed, they'd make a way cool tourist attraction, and maybe be a profit center for the city instead of a liability.

Vincent Cegers

It was exciting to hear the TRUE story of the Shanghai tunnels. Great tour guide and great time.

Jason Conpton

If I could give this a negative star I would the tour sucked. If you were like me and wanting a “ghost tour” and explore the “tunnels” don’t come. You literally walk around maybe a total of 50 feet and look at the same stuff as if you were to crawl under a house or go into your grandmas attic. There is just some fallen bricks and a lot of dust. Plz do not waste money on this, just stay at home and watch the ghost adventures episode where the go in you will get a better scare and more excitement from that.

Marina V

What a great tour! So educational and fascinating! Loved every minute of it. Highly recommend!

John Leckie

Super! Rich Portland history. We totally saw a ghost cat down there.

Tammy McGill

I just find it so fascinating, I've taken the tour twice and I hope so some volunteering down there

Lyubov Simchuk

STOP! Avoid AT ALL COST,Ive never been so frustrated in my life,After calling a few days ahead of time I was greeted by the manager, who recommended i book a tickets online because they do tend to sell out, what he failed to mention is that if you book online once you pick the date you automatically get signed up for a 2pm tour after your payment goes thru, there are no refunds,I Couldn't make it to the 2pm and originally wanted the 5pm,I still drove out there and tried to make it to the 2pm but unfortunaley was 15 minutes late,i contact customer service and she told me that tour already left and they don't keep track of the exact rout of the tour? (so if theres an emergency how would they know where to locate employees or civilians?) after spending a long time on the phone with both Expedia and Underground Tour company they refused to refund me.The manager was very unprofessional and kept telling me to contact Expedia because my payment went thru them, however without Underground tunnel tour company approval Expedia can't budge. The manager didn't even apologize not even once,I would Highly recomend you not to take this tour.

Robert Meyer

Buyer beware. This is not a tunnel tour its a basement tour, where you won't even leave the property which you started, literally! You get told campfire stories and walked around a dark, dusty basement, where you get to view all kinds of modern day plumbing and utilities for the business operating above, and worn out loggers boots. For all we know all of the "relics" on display could have been bought at a garage sale. Total fraud.

John Ford

Phone but fun.

Alec Stay

My experience at the Tunnels was a spectacular experience being the only one seeing it on shows at the time of the tour. i would do it again and again. For the people leaving reviews of less this and that. Then do NOT pay attention to that part of the lecture... Word of advice your phone will be drained towards the beginning of the tour...,. CHEERS MATES

Teri White

Just ok but not bad for $17. You don't get to see any tunnels just a basement and a filled in with rock start of a tunnel.

Thomas Hossler

This is the worst. I read previous reviews and did not have high expectations (I knew the "tunnels" would be 2 or 3 rooms) but it ended being a true nightmare. Unless you are looking for a true scary experience and wanna spend 2 hours in a cave without a way to escape and stuck listening to the most boring tour guide, do not go. Our tour guide was a student focusing on Portland's history. She definitely seems to know her stuff. But when it comes to explaining it to people, she is....not exactly the best. She is going to repeat about 10 times that she is a historian and apparently, it gives her the right to tell people what to think. She CANNOT finish a story and sidetracks endlessly. You are not going to learn much about Portland's history (probably could fit into a 10 sentences paragraph). IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SCARY STUFF, DO THIS TOUR, THIS IS A TRUE HORROR STORY. EXCEPT THE GHOSTS ARE NOT THE ONES YOU SHOULD BE AFRAID OF (but more seriously, please give your tour guides some training).

Chad Holloway

There were no tunnels... We shuffled around the basement of Hobo's for about an hour. The stories the guide told were interesting but seemed like a lot of rumors passed down from over the years

Scott Teem

A great tour and talk of the history of Portland's Underground.

tessy Douglass

This is more of a tour of a dusty basement. We went hoping to walk the tunnels and learn more about the history of them but instead it was mostly ghost stories in the basement of a bar. Very dissatisfied.

Amy Anderson

The place was not what I expected but in a good but scary way, When I read the reviews it said that it was scary and I was like oh yea whatever, but by the time I got out my body was shaking of true terror uncontrollably, real scare! The history of it is really cool to, don’t let the ghost stories throw you off there IS history there! And it is fascinating! I would recommend it! Just not for little kids, I am grown and could barley sleep that night, so yea

Iva Marie Cunningham

I can't believe I paid $26 bucks to see some dirt basements and be bored for 2 hours, my friend paid $52 to go see basements. I have heard about these "tunnels" and was excited to see them, what better time is there than Halloween? The tour guide was boring, and led us through some dirt floor basements and some structures that he said were part of the tunnels but we had to use our imaginations. This was SO MISREPRESENTED even before the tour started he told us about tunnels and catacombs but it was just a disappointing dirt basement that I can see in any Portland home. It was so bad people were leaving the tour early....I wasn't smart enough to that I kept thinking it really can't be this pathetic can it? It was. DON'T GO!

Melissa Kennedy

There was a lot of information about the city that we didn’t know but it wasn’t all I expected

John Pierce

This was very interesting. Highly recommended

Hatty Hattington

Ask for the ghost tour and have a spooky time! Also Watch out for pipes and bricks Because it can get really cramped in there with a large group of people.

Hobie Anthony

Very fun. Exceeds expectations

Jayne Palmer

Went this past weekend. The tour guide was very nice and did a great job, however, I was very disappointed in the tour itself. What I want to know is what is their limit of people they'll take on a tour. They say walk ins can come if room, but do they ever turn people away? There were approx 60 people who showed up for our time slot. They said there were soo many they asked for 30 volunteers to go with another guide about 12 mins later. Why?? Why book that many people to begin with?? So then about 30 of us go down and even 30 is too many. She even said when we tried to look at stuff she was trying to get us all through... then again don't book soo many and we won't have to rush! They should only allow 10-15 people to make it enjoyable for everyone. So they clearly only care about stuffing as many as they can to make money. Was not worth it at all.

Jeff King

Walking underground where people were kept prisoners was a little creepy, but being able to see some history was way cool.

Mike Roldan

Was hoping to see more of the underground not just the basement of the building... The tour guide was great very knowledgeable

Laura King

I like the idea of this tour (have done similar tours in other cities), but the execution left something to be desired. I found it dragged on and could have been condensed, especially as you are standing in small, dark, dank corners of a basement the whole time. Too often, tour guide emphasised ghosts and things people have hallucinated. Tours sell out, in our case they asked us to divide ourselves into two groups as we wouldn't all fit at once. Need to be agile, steep stairs, crouching, navigating in the dark on uneven ground. $20 cash for walk-ins.

Isaac Miller

It's cute. Silly stories. Gross basements. Definitely helps to have a few drinks and go in a good mood. Take it as entertainment.

Adam Knoedler

This was extremely dissapointing. We came for the ghost tour and when we arrived, the lady asked what your everyone wanted. Everyone raised their hands agreeing to the ghost tour. I had my paranormal equipment with me and they said no ghost hunting equipment was allowed. That defeats the whole purpose. It was more of a historical tour and it was rushed. Hopefully, I can take over this location and give the public what it wants.

christine long

I didn't know what to expect and we've been on tours before -- especially local ghost hunting and all that. But our guides were awesome! Aaron and Christina gave us more than we bargained for. It was AWESOME!!!!!

Renee Risnoveanu

Absolutely incredible! I'm not one for ghost stories so that part didn't interest me as much, but the tunnels are rich with history! I loved the set-ups they had rigged to show us what happened in the tunnels. Using the flashlights they gave us instead of our phones helped transport me back in time! Hailey was a good tour guide and is very knowledgable.

I live above them, lol, every time I visit the basement of my historical building I am in the tunnel. The tour is VERY popular with visitors, as part of the tour I can see and hear from my windows. There is always a decent group, and they seem to enjoy themselves. All of the guides I've heard are animated, friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. The tours are year round, rain or shine, and run several times of the day daily.

Good but not my thing

The tunnels and very unique and interesting. We appreciated the history, the ghosts, and the lively tour guide. Beware, it's very humid and muggy. You almost need an oxygen mask.

I arrived 15 minutes early as directed in my confirmation to be greeted by a doorfull of homeless people using syringes. The entry was not clearly marked so I stepped into the Starbucks at the corner to wait in safety. I then tried to enter the building 2 more times, the door was locked 11:00 am and 11:10 am and was nearly stabbed with a syringe at the door and accosted by a lady with a 6 inch buck knife. Not only did I pay for my parking and my ticket to your attraction without any service I was endangered.

Amazing tour, had a lot of fun learning about a side of Portland I never knew. My only suggestion would be to offer separate tours for families, and adults with no children
