Breathtaking. There's never enough time to see them all. Plan to take lots of pictures. It was more enjoyable for us earlier in the morning while it was still cool. We've visited on overcast days & that helped cut the heat as well. Don't be in a hurry. Stop & smell the roses is an absolute Must in this Rose garden.

Taddy Clarke

26 years later and this is still one of the most beautiful garden on planet earth. An inspiring place indeed.

Shannon M

So many gorgeous roses! A must see location in Portland. The view from there is great too!

Jessica Serna Carrillo

The rows and rows of roses were absolutely beautiful and smelled great. I could have spent the entire day taking pictures. Happy place!

Marta Thalos

Such a beautiful garden that overlooks the city of Portland. Many types of roses, all gorgeous. We like to bring a pucnic and enjoy it in the gatden. Connects directly to the Japanese Garden. The rose garden is free, but you have to feed the meters to park there.

Chelsea Peterson

Amazing smells! Awesome park too! Totally worth spending a few hours there.

Ian Irwin

Do you like Roses? If not, don't come here. This place IS FULL OF ROSES and they're extraordinarily beautiful in the late spring and summer. Also a killer view of Portland itself from up high. Manages to not feel touristy despite being a very photo-friendly tourist destination. Highly recommend if its your first time in Portland.

Gerrie Bodleymace

A lovely place to spend the afternoon wandering through endless rows of gorgeous roses. The garden is located on a hill just below the sublime Japanese Garden. The roses are displayed in sections with well-marked signage describing the names of the flowers. Multiple intersecting pathways course around the roses. Saw a visitor hold up his small dog so that she could smell the gorgeous roses. Benches are scattered throughout the property. On a clear day, you can see Mount Hood. There is a small gift shop with adjacent restrooms. Parking above and adjacent to the garden.

Medha Moghe

One of its kind , largest old rose garden having more than 10000 rose shrubs of more than 600 varieties in Washington park. Free entry. Well maintained by gardeners. Has a gift shop , few food trucks, sit n eat area, parking, easily accessible by local transport and free shuttle. Just opposite the Japanese garden.

Joris Vallenduuk

As part of the Washington Park it is a very beautiful place to go to. Very well maintained and free access. Lot's of parking space available. While there also go to the Japanese garden (payed access)

Marina Miller

Just beautiful! Great views of PDX and exquisite roses, manicured grounds like no other

Workin For a Livin

This place is beautiful in early August. The blooms are everywhere and the smell of roses fills the air. We took a Lyft in so didn't have to park, but there is plenty of parking. You do have to pay to park. Admission is free, but they will take donations. It isn't too hilly, but could be a tough navigation for people with injuries or the elderly who need assistance getting around.

Laureen whitney

The gardens are beautiful and peaceful. A good amount of walking but worth every step. Outstanding

Eileen Price

Stunning place! Shocking that it's free. This is a world class epic Rose garden. It is June 10 and the roses are on full bloom. The breadth, quality, and variety of blooms is tremendous. The garden is interesting as it has tiered and flat areas. The food venders are quaint and I'd recommend this experience to anyone.

Ingrid Koehler

Really lovely place. The grounds are spacious and special needs friendly. Unfortunately MOST of the Roses were Not in bloom. They should stagger the bloom times to have at least 1/4 of the place blooming at all times. So we took a pic by the wall of other flowers.

Melissa LeClaire

Beautiful and free! So worth checking out. Some of the roses have very unique scents and the photo ops are endless.

Sara Crawford

The Rose Garden is a great place to explore, and it is Actually free. The flowers bloom all season and there's a huge variety to look at. It was very busy today (even a proposal!!) But people are always polite and friendly.

Janice Davis

If you love roses this is the place. The garden is well maintained and has a beautiful variety. Many colors are easily accessible for photographing. The beautiful snake capped mountains in the background adds to the breathtaking atmosphere. There is a small but well stocked gift shop and also a snack shop. The park is the perfect place to spend the day by including a visit to the zoo.

Matthew Wymer

Parking was a bit difficult, but if you drive to the end of the street, there are spaces available. The rose garden alone is worth the trouble. The colors are brilliant and the views of Portland with Mt. Hood in the background are spectacular.

Antoine Juhel

Absolutely beautiful still in September! Make sure you check it out during peak season in June though.

Brad Davis

It always makes me very happy when I go here. Even with all the tourist.

Mitali Sharma

Beautiful space to go along with family or by yourself. Make sure you visit this place in late spring and summer as it'll be full of blooms & fragrance. There's food, restrooms, sitting area available. There is no entry fee & Japanese garden is across the street and paid parking is available. The garden has 3 levels and there are a few stairs to get to the garden, they've also got wheelchair access entry & exit points on both the corners on the garden.

Ivan Idzan

If you're in Portland between June and August, the International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park is stunning, to say the least. Even on a warm late summer evening before sunset, with parking free, it is a lovely place to take a walk among the flowers. The history behind the garden's founding is interesting too, stemming from the destruction from WWI in Europe.

Johnathan Shelton

A must see in Portland. Free garden with thousands of rose bushes and a great view of the city and mount hood on clear days. Lots of stuff in the immediate area as well

Elana Olson

We were a few weeks shy of blooms but it was a gorgeous space and so well maintained. We loved it way more than the Japanese gardens and it’s free! The variety and colors were impressive and the views over Portland were nice as well. Wood recommend to anyone visiting - especially if you come at the right time.

tresa loranger

Such a gorgeous place! In the spring time when all the roses have blossomed it is an amazing site to see. There is paved paths and some that wind through the flowers themselves. Take an hour or so and spend the afternoon here- you won’t regret it

Elena Punty

Absolutely gorgeous! So many varieties I have never seen before. You could easily spend hours here. No problem. Just be sure to take an allergy pill!

David Piechnik

Beautiful, well-tended gardens... and they're free! This garden contains rows upon rows of roses in a great setting. I'm sure it can get busy at peak times but we went in the morning, mid-week in July and it felt only a little busy. I enjoyed it and I'm not really that into flowers. Definitely worth the visit.

Kristina Derosier

Often a talented musician will be playing sax or something too that adds a romantic and beautiful feel to the well appointed and large rose garden overlooking the city.

reina shiel

Picturesque. Beautifully perfumed air from our outstanding roses and PNW evergreen trees. There is a nice view of the city. bring a picnic. There are plenty of beautiful places to sit and enjoy a meal. Tidy, well manicured. Safe, easily maneuvered paths (ADA). Parking: ugh. The less said the better, although, there is a shuttle service that provides free transportation all over the Washington Park area. You could start out at the zoo, enjoy a picnic in the Rose garden and take the kids to a nearby playground on the hill without ever having to move your car. First though, you need to get there. The light rail train (Max) can bring you up to the zoo and you can take the shuttle down from there.

Ambrogino Fanelli

Beautiful and serene, no cost to go here. The Japanese garden is extremely overpriced though

Michael Williamson

If you're really into roses, you might find this cool but it didn't do much for me. There are many rows of different roses that all look more or less the same to the untrained eye. It's free so you don't have that much to lose.

Yuva Natya

Love going here during the summers!! Must visit for sure .. Suggest going there during weekdays in the afternoon/morning to avoid the crowd and get good pictures! Gorgeous roses and beautiful throughout the park!

Isaiah Tibbs

This place is incredible. Thousands of roses on display. Spring and summer are the best times to come here as the flowers slow down as it cools. Nice views of the city and a great place to bring guests.

Vicki Wilson

This free, very accessible, and beautiful activity is a must when in Portland if you love nature and flowers. The rose garden is neatly planted with an amazing variety of rose to enjoy both their colorful glory and fragrant smells. Although it is easy to walk and accessible to most, walking shoes would be highly recommended as this is an outdoor activity and it could be wet. Umbrellas might be a good idea as well, just in case you get a drizzle when you go.Being located in Washington Park, you can access this garden via the free shuttle that runs every 15 minutes. You can make a full day of it visiting all the other sites and start off by taking the HOP transit to the starting point at the Zoo and then riding the free shuttle the rest of the way.

Lan Khuc

If you like Rose's, this is the place for you. Plan to spend at least 4 hours here, longer if you like to stop and smell the Rose's. Convenient pay parking.

Charles Blue

What a beautiful place! And it's free to see. Except for parking, which is a nominal fee of $2 per hour. HIGHLY recommended for all.

Nathaniel Bray

Beautiful place to visit, between the elegance of the landscaping, the historical hand designed walls, moss covered modernized buildings with Japanese history; this is a must visit

Justin Linville

Beautiful area of Washington Park. Visiting for the weekend we tried to go to the Japanese garden, but there was an entrance fee and long line. Turned left down the hill and went to the rose garden instead, and was not disappointed.

Melaida Corpuz

I brought my mom here because she loves gardens and roses so she enjoyed it more than I did. It was still nice to see her smile!

Brian Sommers

A neat, free, unique place to visit. Hunt for your favorite variety of rose!

Jordan Horrocks

A must see for Portland, especially may - sept. Might be hard to park though. Peaceful, vibrant, chill, great smells too from all the flowers... if you're lucky maybe there will be a harpist or saxophonist playing!

37th Cloud

Free, beautiful, I visited on 5.25.2019 and not all the roses are bloom yet. Maybe couple more weeks it would be awesome. Still decent amount to look around. There is a big children's playground close by. Pretty good too.

Joshua Price

One shouldn't travel to Portland and miss the opportunity to visit the International Rose Test Garden. Just walk and smell the roses, no need to even stop. With over 10000 blooms in over 600 varieties there is something here for almost anyone. From whites to yellows, oranges, reds of every hue, to deep purple blossoms, this garden in a wonder and a serene place to while away an afternoon. No entrance fees, and parking is available for a reasonable fee. Give it a shot, and while you're there think about visiting the Japanese Gardens where you can view the majesty if Mount Hood on a clear day.

Jack Sung

Lots of beautiful roses, very pretty. There is a gift store and parking lot nearby. The Japanese Garden is also within walking distance as well as an outdoor amphitheater.

Diana Myers

A lovely place to spend the afternoon wandering through endless rows of gorgeous roses. The garden is located on a hill just below the sublime Japanese Garden. The roses are displayed in sections with well-marked signage describing the names of the flowers. Multiple intersecting pathways course around the roses. Saw a visitor hold up his small dog so that she could smell the gorgeous roses. Benches are scattered throughout the property. On a clear day, you can see Mount Hood. There is a small gift shop with adjacent restrooms. Parking above and adjacent to the garden..

Ruby Montelongo

This place has been my go to place for peace, to take a deep breath and relax. I used to live near the ocean, that was my place of peace but this was a happy replacement for me. A must see if you are in Portland.

Gina Mclemore

My ultimate zen spot. Love to come here and walk, people watch, enjoy the beauty of Portland. Such a diverse and amazing place.

marj1st

Omg, did I stumble into a magnificent place! I was visiting the Japanese Garden and overheard someone taking about this place across the street. I slipped between the tennis courts and walked down the steps and was simply overcome with the beauty of this garden in full bloom. The fragrance is intoxicating. And the gardens go on forever it seems. Every color under the rainbow! Every size, every delicate petal shape, it's unlike anything I've ever seen. Millions of blooms as far as the eye can see! It was also the night they were having a free concert in the park!!! What a fortuitous day! Go. You'll not regret it!

larrysbeard

Visited the Rose Garden while in Portland for a wedding. We were lucky enough to hit it at Peak bloom. Absolutely spectacular! Don't know what it's like at any other time of year but certainly worth a visit during blooming season.

Juan Kis

If you like roses this is the place to go. If you are going a summer weekend don't drive. Take an Uber or ask someone to drop you off. The parking is very limited up to the point of you are saying "why I have to drive around for more than a half an hour for a parking spot to see roses?!?!"

Katie Utterback

This place is absolutely beautiful! Perfect for exploring as well as engagement photos! Parking can be a bit tricky but it's well worth it!

Matthew Welsh

Gorgeous Roses, when you go in the middle of June. The grounds were clean

Omid R

A chilling and cheerful location to hang out with family and friends. Many types of roses. Some time there is a free tour at 13 pm

Jay Freeman

So many beautiful roses!! It's free and a nice way to enjoy some time with your family.

Julia Burke

It was stunning, even out of season and not in it's full glory!

Heather Stinson

Variety of color and sizes of roses. Each labeled clearly of strain and origin, including its historical relevance. Beautiful place to visit and stroll. Romantic at dusk.

Amanda McCavitt

Gorgeous layout of roses. Incredible scent wafts through the air. A plethora of colors, varieties and sizes to admire.

meagan mceachern

It is gorgeous. Such a perfect spot to explore and take pictures! I highly recommend to anyone visiting or around Portland.

Emily Kapostas

The International Rose Test Garden was a joy to come up upon during our walking through Washington Park. We had planned to come to the park later in the day, but the trail we were on led us right to it. It was incredible looking at all of the flowers in bloom despite it being October! Comparing the colors, sizes, and smells of so many roses made it very educational and fun. My husband and I had a great time!

A Callendine

Friendly tip - there is a gift shop that you can get a handout to borrow to guide you through the garden. We were impressed by all the amazing roses, how vibrant and fragrant they were. It was a beautiful day to get discover all the flowers. My only wish was that it would be easier to find certain roses. There were a few we wanted to see and couldn’t find them. Still had a wonderful time!

Julie Wasiuk

Beautiful roses, so many to look at. We also stumbled across people playing classical music which was a pleasant surprise. Parking was a little difficult to find and also wasn't free, but well worth it.

islandraider1217

Beautiful! Roses everywhere....all colors, shapes and sizes. Serene setting...parking is available. Great views of Portland and mt. Hood too. Japanese garden is also here...great way to relax a couple of hours.

Whitney the one & only

This is a garden of fragrant dreams. All the roses in all kinds of gorgeous colors. Its such an amazing array of the most classic of blooms. Row upon row of elegant roses, all labeled & dated with the year created. I have visited twice, observing a photo shoot featuring a young woman modeling, then, next time, a wedding. Also, both times, lots of group & solo photos being taken of visitors by their companions. My companion is a gardener by hobby & it was an absolute joy to watch him snapping photos almost the entire time we were there. Its free to visit, the fresh air is fantastic & there are areas you can sit to reflect. The public bathroom located at the entrance appears to have built in 1917, or so, when the garden first opened. It is a beautiful structure.

Charles W Basden

If you like roses, don’t miss it. The parking is tight and it’s high on the hills so not easy to walk up to but you will see more roses and different varieties than ever. The history of the garden’s origins is quite interesting too.

Andrea F

I first visited here back in December 1997 when I came up with my brother and friend to look for a place to move to and then on my most recent trip to Portland. Lovely roses and flowers, lovely views of the city. If I ever get engaged, I would like the proposal to happen here, early in the morning on a fall day.

Niem Nguyen

Nice place to visit, but not on the weekends. Parking is always full. The food carts are nice to have. It's next to the Japanese garden so that's convenient if you like to visit the garden.

Monique Clark

Beautifully kept garden and amazing variety of roses and flowers. Loved strolling through this garden.

Emma Peara

The road garden is spectacular! There are more varieties of rose than seems imaginable of all colors, shapes, sizes and scents and the garden is enormous. We spent a couple hours walking around and getting a guided tour and felt like we didn’t see even half of the garden. This would be a wonderful place to study, go on a date or just go on a peaceful and beautiful walk.

Jill Harwell

Just walk and smell the roses, no need to even stop. With over 10000 blooms in over 600 varieties there is something here for almost anyone. From whites to yellows, oranges, reds of every hue, to deep purple blossoms, this garden in a wonder and a serene place to while away an afternoon. No entrance fees, and parking is available for a reasonable fee. Give it a shot, and while you're there think about visiting the Japanese Gardens where you can view the majesty if Mount Hood on a clear day.

cathleen crawford

Lovely garden, however I am looking for some old roses and they rotate their roses out as a"test garden". I did not find the rose that I am looking for.

Clinton Lindsey

Iconic. No visit to Portland is complete without a visit, provided it's between May and October. Close to 650 varieties of roses on nearly 10,000 bushes. Just celebrated it's centenary in 2017.

Travis D

Cool place, but obviously it's seasonal. It's free so not a bad way to spend an hour in Portland.

Spencer Biddle

SPECIAL!! I love coming up here and wandering down the rows of roses. I never used to be a big rose fan until I came to this garden. There are so many different colors and shapes and SMELLS. It’s such a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Bring a blanket and make a picnic in the amphitheater right by the roses!

Kitala7266

Absolutely gorgeous. An easy walk for pretty much anyone. Would highly recommend going even if you're not a huge fan of flowers. The colors and vibrancy of the gardens are extraordinary.

Stephen Weber

Do take some time to stop and smell the roses. While not actually the original Rose Garden, this location is over 100 years old and home to nearly endless varieties of roses. Admission is free, and I would recommend visiting after a trip to the Japanese Garden just up the hill. Most of the Rose Garden is ADA accessible. Restrooms are at either end but are seasonal.

Desiree Bradley

So many roses and so many different varieties! We took our personal scooters. Good idea. Also hiking and a park right out of the garden. Everywhere.

Mel McFlurry

So beautiful. It's free which is nice because it's something you can go to mid day for a walk. Get the rose flavored shaved ice!

Crystal Ventura

A staple and enchanting place to take my international guests! Often a talented musician will be playing sax or something too that adds a romantic and beautiful feel to the well appointed and large rose garden overlooking the city. Parking can be hard to find so take public trans if possible;)

Mary Schroeder

Will add my accolades to this Amazing Rose garden. Over 1,000 plants lovingly tended in a 4 acre park. As an out-of-state visitor, this was my first time to the garden. Will be back! The gift shop was also very nice; I picked up some gifts for my friends who tend the community garden where I live. I also spent some time chatting with one of the volunteers, tending the roses is a labor of love.

Noah D

It is a great place to take family photos. The Rose's smell and look great and best place to take a nice peaceful walk.

David Anderson

Those rose garden is huge! So many different colors and scents. We had a really pleasant hour or so walking around the grass paths. Parking is somewhat limited, so I suggest a ride share to get there.

Danielle Sword

Pretty and free. Why not? If you don’t get parking in the main area look at the map for the trail and park near that.

Bruce Reiter

Wonderful, showing Portland's best flowers. It was great to bring a wedding party or just sniff the fragrance of the myriad of roses, laid out in a park setting. Make you go when the flowers are blooming.

Albert Gnadt

Amazing selection of roses from all over the world. You could easily spend an entire afternoon there if you’re a flower person. Find the “award winner” kiosk (which also has a large map) and then seek the award winners out! (especially the most fragrant)

David Oppenheimer

As someone who is not particularly familiar with roses, I was blown away by the sheer variety and beauty of the subjects in this garden. The beds are extremely well organized and many of the roses were in full bloom during our visit. If you have even a shred of interest in flowers, I would highly recommend a visit to this stunning garden.

Jasmine j

A lovely and well maintained rose garden that carries a nice scent. The flowers are beautiful. Another great thing is that it's free of charge!

Ellary Deferrers

This is a great spot to snag a shaded, hidden bench along the western periphery of the Rose Garden. I've sat here for hours reading and watching people looking at the roses. I mean, I admire the roses too - once, I spotted a white albino spider in a yellow rose bud; I'd never seen one before, pretty cool find. There's also snacks, drinks, ice cream available nearby, not far from the gift shop up on the upper level.

Michael Bishop

Roses Roses and more Roses. The incredible variety, types and colors are a feast for the eyes. Amazing visual texture brings sights that you can feel. The profusion of rose fragrances literally stops you to smell the Roses. A giant playground down the hill, gives an alternative focus for kiddos.

Emilia Brasier

Such a beautiful rose garden. So many varieties of roses to see as well as a small garden with other plants.

Mason Clarke

The view at the top of this place is incredible. You can see most of the gardens and then farther out, most of the city. Pretty cool stuff. Then, walking through the gardens you feel as if you’re in a different world, one much simpler. The flowers are pristine, and the whole experience is one worth having.

Norma Lilia

Free of charge, this place is one of the best getaways within the city of Portland. It’s literally like a huge park filled with hundreds of premium roses. Some spots are very charming and you feel like you’re in a secret garden which is amazing for photo ops. Please visit during spring and summer as these roses start to fade away going in to Fall season.

Alex Lockwood

Love the newer pathways throughout the garden that allow close viewing access of the roses without getting your feet dirty at all. Now they just need to figure out better parking & shuttle service because it's not very easy to find a spot on busy days.

Muak

Really awesome rose garden with different coloured rose. Perfect spot for pictures/wedding pictures. They also hold free opera concert occasionally. The entire garden filled with flower smell. Each rose have a different scent. There is no admission fee to this garden. Highly recommended.

Aminul Islam Khan

A good place to see varieties of roses. Moreover, it's free for all. You don't have to buy any tickets. Just go and enjoy. It is opposite of Japanese garden. So people who love Japanese garden can enjoy both of them at the same time.

Renae Shoemaker

We had a wonderful time at the Rose garden today. My three kids really enjoyed it as well. Its beautiful and the roses smell amazing! Only negative is parking takes quite a bit of time to find.

Nichole Cunningham

This was a nice place to go. I was surprised to see they still had roses in October, but there were still a lot to see. I especially liked that this place was free to visit. There is some free parking close by if you drive past the paid parking. We found plenty of street parking available.

John

Fun place to walk and look around and take photos. It can be knocked out in 15 minutes and then can explore the rest of the area.

Norm Gosch

This garden is amazing. Some plants more than a hundred years old. Heritage of roses. Learning about so many different Rose hybrids, variations and originations is something I never thought would be fascinating. Surprise, it’s exhilarating.

JC Zheng

Great place to visit. Beautiful on a sunny day. All the roses were blooming. Fantastic place for photo. Worth spending 90 min in the morning when crowds were light.

Don Townsend

A few blooms left...be careful grass has slick mud patches ...

James Smith

If you're a fan of roses, a fan of nature or just trying to find a way to spend the day, you'll need to come to the International Rose Test Garden. There are dozens and dozens of varieties. When in bloom, the fragrant air surrounds the garden, making the whole experience that much more sublime. The garden is big enough so that you never feel crowded and the surrounding trees provide shade on a hot Summer's day. The Shakespeare Garden is a nice complement to the main greenspace itself, featuring a beautiful fountain and other great snapshot locations. Make sure you have your camera ready! For the low price of FREE, this is a great destination for a family or couples on a budget.

Raph barney

I loved this. I am not into flowers and gardens but I loved this. There were do many cool and beautiful flowers and you get a great view of Portland.

Josh Carlson

The garden is beautiful! My girlfriend and I are visiting Portland from Massachusetts, and made sure to add this as one of our stops. It did not disappoint! We will certainly be making our way back next time we're here :) the employees and volunteers do an excellent job of taking care of it.

Ricardo Oats

Another great Portland spot. Great to take a walk to make the stress go away. Anytime is a good time !

It was nice and the roses had a sweet smell to them. Definitely a nice place to take pictures and have conversations.

Doug Lemon

Had a great time at this well laid out presentation of roses. Great paths and information.

Infinity Myer

Super super pretty! Great for pictures and family of course. Be careful though the gift store is PACKED with people lol.

Jared Holfeltz

This place smells SOOOOO good. Absolutely gorgeous. Every color of rose imaginable, many romantic photo ops for couples. Great playground right down the path for kids. I've been coming here for 20 years.

krishna keerthi Vaddepally

Absolute beauty!! We thought of spending just 1 hour and ended up staying for 3 hours! Lots and lots of

Kerry Stevens

Acres of beautiful roses! All imaginable colors. Bushes and climbing. Easy-to- walk paths. Many places to sit and have a picnic. Nearby restroom. Several flights of stairs.

Cat Huss

Gorgeous Roses. Gets pretty hot in the sun so bring sunscreen/shade.

Doug Wade

There's a bunch of roses and many of them are pretty cool. The roses are dense so they should be fairly accessible to people who don't walk well.

Chinh Luong

It's ALWAYS a pleasure to visit the garden. As soon as you get to the garden you'll notice the aroma of all the roses. Quite a transformation from the busy road not far away.

Ben Campbell

Wonderful garden, a nice place to visit of you have the time. Very relaxing and calm environment, easy to sit and enjoy the beautiful flowers and gardens. If only more cities had places like this!

J Saler Drees

So many different types of roses! And the names are so fun to read. Like Dusty Roads on a Hot Night to Patriotic Nancy to Gingerbread Fun. Just kidding those aren't the real names but they quirky like that. You get the picture. Great home for bees too. I love bees.

Tim Steinman

Love the Rose? Great views? This is your Nirvana!

Susan Scott

Visited on July 6 and all the Roses in bloom....acres of them. A beautiful place. Amphitheater provided a nice point to sit, enjoy the gardens and watch the many visitors. Set in beautiful Washington Park in the center of Portland, we had quite a hike because parking full on this busy Saturday. A must if in Portland especially if bloom time.

Jesse Jacoby

Beautiful garden unlike anything we've ever seen -- gorgeous rose's in every direction. It smells wonderful. A great way to spend an hour before or after visiting the Japanese Garden across the street.

Matt and Bridge

Loads of variety of roses in one place. There is plenty of room to walk among them too without getting pricked. It's very well taken care of.

Jane Wilson

Love it.hadnt been for many years ,as I grew up in this area.will be back.natural beauty ,views , lovely paths ...

Alejandra Becerra

Such a lovely garden. It is set up very nicely. Makes for great pictures and the smell of roses while walking through is heavenly. Definitely recommend. Can't leave Portland without walking through this garden.

somi kmath

Heaven on earth.!! You will fall in love with roses. Must watch attractions in Washington Park. It's free entry and everyday there is free guided tour at 1 pm from Rose garden gift shop store. There are 10,000 roses.

Joseph Moran

It’s a bit of a snooze fest. Girls love it tho - so it’s a nice place for a first hinge date or whatever apps the kids are using these days. It’s 5 stars because it’s free, unlike the outrageously priced japenese garden across the way.

Emily Barney

Such a beautiful place - 600 varieties of roses, 10,000+ plants. Not every plant is labeled, so I am posting my photos of the garden map and key. I almost missed the entrance from the north side, hidden behind some gorgeous blue hydrangeas I took the #20 bus to get there, which meant a pretty steep hike up through the park with stairs, but that was also beautiful.

Commander Stone

This is a very old rose garden with many heritage road stocks and some incredible New varieties... Sitting high up above the city in the West hills with a wonderful view of my hood and downtown Portland... Even though it is very popular there are so many rows of roses there's always a quiet place to smell the roses by yourself and many benches to sit in... Also on the hill behind it lies the international near claimed Japanese gardens which are well worth the trip to see... This is wonderful place to bring a picnic and then wander up the hill and finish off the day and the tranquility of the authentic Japanese garden... Enjoy

anita mcmillan

Great place to connect with nature. There are so many varieties of plants and Rose's. No purchases but I spent about an hour admiring the area. Great scenic view on the hill side.

General Dexter

I came after the season was in full bloom but really enjoyed the areas. I could see all of the city of Portland for a few great photos. I enjoyed reading the names of the new roses they are trying to do experiments on I'm assuming.

R. Lee Donaldson

Umbrellas might be a good idea as well, just in case you get a drizzle when you go. Being located in Washington Park, you can access this garden via the free shuttle that runs every 15 minutes. You can make a full day of it visiting all the other sites and start off by taking the HOP transit to the starting point at the Zoo and then riding the free shuttle the rest of the way.

Wonderful aroma! The roses are well displayed and the whole thing is very well done. A little difficult to find parking on Sunday but otherwise a great experience!

Hard to find parking but well worth your effort to get here! If you love roses there is none better than this one.

Visited last summer in July 2018 and it was perfect. Tons of blooming roses. Visited again this weekend (end of May 2019), expecting that only 10% of them would be blooming. I was right, but what was blooming was so gorgeous, and it still smelled like roses everywhere!! We'll definitely go back next month. It's such a peaceful place. Can't wait to take my grandma when she visits from California this summer.

This place is absolutely outstanding! My family and I went to see how great it actually was, and it was amazing!! There are SO MANY roses, it’s crazy. All of the flowers are beautiful, and the entire place is picture-perfect. I highly recommend this place!!

It is beautiful here. I took lots of pictures but I think my favorite thing was smelling the roses. The aroma was as beautiful as the flowers themselves. Oh I loved watching the rabbits.

Beautiful garden, well kept. Lots of great blooms. I live near here and come by often, there’s always different roses in their prime on different days. It does get a bit muddy when it rains tho!

Beautiful roses Nassau to a lovely park near a Japanese garden, the zoo, and other popular attractions. The Holocaust memorial is moving and a great learning experience.
