REVIEWS OF Haystack Rock IN Oregon

Great place to immerse oneself in nature's beauty. Lots of flora and fauna can be found seeking hermitage on the rock's surface, both above and below the water. Watch out for birds above and tidal pools below. Low tide is a great time to visit, if one is interested in marine life. Beach is pretty nice. Water is cold throughout the year. Great place to bring a pet. Lots of people and pet dogs around. Plenty of eateries nearby as well.

Linda Meuret

Loved this place. The beach was delightful, what a wonderful place to walk along the incoming waves from the ocean. The landmark called the Haystack was so cool. We loved watching the birds as they flew over the cliffs and buttresses. Down in the rocks blow, were starfish of all colors!!!! What a wonderful place to just enjoy. The beach was so clean. This is a great place for families and children. There were many dogs there too.

Kristina Derosier

Located at Cannon beach this is a breathtaking spot which is loved by many. The beach weather is chilly (possibly all year round) so don't forget to get a jacket. The beach is easily accessible and there are a couple of convenience store/cafes nearby as well.

Kasity Briley

Best time yet. We even forgot the water was cold while we were looking in all the Tidal pools. Make sure to go at low tide for the best experience.

Mike Rhine

Beautiful location with birds nesting on the rock, people walking their kids and dogs around and some informational boots and binoculars to learn about the rock and nesting.

Mallory Johns

Great place to see Sea Creatures in their natural environment! Very popular and active part of the beach. Bathrooms near by the main entrance of the beach.

maxy cheriyan

Very scenic beach and a great place to enjoy the sun set. There are public parking available across the street and the beach is at a walkable distance from the parking. This place can be very crowded on weekends during summer.

George Guerra

Luv it beautiful place to live nice ocean forget about the stress will go away

Marty Flansburg

Visiting Haystack Rock is always on the short list of things to do when visiting the Oregon Coast. It is fun when you can get there around low tide, and even more so if there is a minus tide. Haystack Rock tide pools are home to many intertidal animals, including starfish, sea anemone, crabs, chitons, limpets, and sea slugs. We always look forward to our next visit.

One of my to-go places during the summertime! Theres shops and restaurants to explore. I love it here!

BinDu MurALidharaN

Lovely beach to enjoy long walks with family/pets/friends. If you appreciate some peace and calm then try to hit the beach early in the morning.

John Wilson

Popular tourist destination. Best to visit near sunset or early morning.

Rick Bruce

The habitat protection crew were great this morning. Very friendly and informative. Quite enjoyable!

Brennan Hill

More crowded than usual, but I usually visit in June. Fun, ample parking and food options, but be aware that a lot of places close early. Lots of shoreline and total pools. Dog friendly

William Kerns

Pictures simply do not do this place justice. It is a really nice walk along Cannon Beach to haystack rock. The town is also very nice. I highly recommend stopping in if you are anywhere nearby. It is worth the trip.

raymond S2009g

The rock formation is majestic. The weather was cloudy, wet and windy. The wind was strong. Even though the raindrop was tiny, like drizzling, but because of the wind, you could get eet and cold. Dress appropriately - good water resistant wind breaker with hood, and layer inside. And water resistant pants or thick pair of jeans. At low tide, you could walk really close to the rock.

Adam Helbling

My visit was incredible. Sure, the high winds and low temperature made my eyes water but they also leaked a little from the beauty so it was a wash. There were some conservation specialists there too which were happy to share info with us.

Viera Matuska

Love love this place. The beach the water the rock... Simple and yet the best. Highly recommended.

Darline McHarless

This is a fantastic place to walk the beach. Especially when the tide goes out. You really get to see all the sea creatures you can heal the sand shrimp we go between your toes if you dig your feet in the sand. I really love it here. Very peaceful

Robert Albright

Def cool, it is quite a giant rock. There is also more to see if you go at low tide, such as tidal pools and the ability to be closer to the rock.

Stew

When you come to Cannon Beach, especially for the first few times or if you are trying to impress a date or make your kids or grandkids happy, go out on to the beach and visit Haystack Rock. It's fun, it's free, it's great for people watching, and it's beautiful. Parking may be a bit of a hassle, but walk through the town, enjoy stopping for a good meal or a good beer... play tourist, and love it

Nocolate Nipnookee

It’s a big rock. Yes it is surrounded by water at high tides. Yes it is dramatic.... That being said this is not the best beach rock for your buck. Head south to Neskowin. There you will find an even more dramatic rock; on an even more beautiful beach, featuring far less tourists. Neskowin also has a live reef, sand dollars, sea lions, beer, and a golf course.

Jerry Spraggins

GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!!! What a cool experience to see this iconic rock and all the wonders surrounding it. We took the kids to the tide pools around the rock and it was bananas the amount of cool things you can see. There are local fish & wildlife reps out there to answer questions about what types of monsters live in the cave (turns out there are none as of yet) and any other questions kids and others might have. The beach itself is very clean and has great loose and more packed sand areas. Great for beach days and it's very close to the town and a short drive to Seaside.

Paul Weber

Cannon beach is like old faithful ... not the best geyser in Yellowstone but definitely worth the trip and it is very satisfying with little effort expended. It is the nicest shopping town on the Oregon Coast and Haystack rock is amazing with good ride pools at low tide. Even though you can no longer drive in as the road washed out years ago, ecola beach is beautiful with great tide pools, Hug point just 6 miles south is spectacular and a top 10 beach. Our cost is a treasure grove and on your way to exploring every unique miles, definitely spend the day and come back every year to cannon beach and haystack rock.

Cricket

Natural beauty abounds at this massive monolith. Worth the trip to see this meeting site for puffins and terns. Be sure to check when low tide is if you want an up close view. Don't forget to view the many forms of sea life in the tide pools.

Amy Kennedy-Palma

Visited for the first time even though I've lived in the PNW many years and was not disappointed! Very calming and clean beach with great views. We took vow renewal photos here and even though it turned out to be a cool, foggy day (when it was sunny and 90 in the Valley) the views were still very pretty. Take the walk down this beach! You'll appreciate it.

Ron Everett

Beautiful place. If you do things right you get to say that you literally hiked the Oregon trail and if you're old enough that will be cool to your friends. I started in ecola part and did a hike through the forest to come out on crescent Beach. Peaceful and secluded beach. Hop back on the trail and go to cannon Beach where you can actually see Haystack rock. The experience is one of the most beautiful you will see if the United staff.

Mrscube 187

It is cool to see all the anemones and huge star fish! But be aware it is illegal to walk on the rocks or onto Haystack itself and it is strictly enforced.

Linda Meuret

Shannon Hayes

The beach was beautiful, it was a gorgeous sunny day. The rock is blocked off in certain areas so the public doesn't destroy it by walking all over the sea life growing on it, which I am all for keeping it protected. It was pretty crowded, which is to expected for summer. They had little tide pools with some sea life living in them, you can walk up to them but you cannot step in the water. The reason it didn't get five stars wasn't due to the beautiful area, it was due to the people visiting it. Even with signs explaining what not to do so the sea life and area will stay preserved, people still broke the rules. They stepped in the water, kids climbed through the tide pools along with adults. Touched the life growing on the rocks, ignorant humans. And we wonder why our Oceans are dying! But overall it is worth the visit, just obey the rules.

Sharon Anton

Always a fabulous time at Cannon Beach. Been coming to the coast since the 80's. Best place to be. Cannon Beach has that small town feel without all the mass touristy junk. Lots of great places to eat.

Kendra Snodgrass

Wandering around with ocean wildlife is fun for everyone. Puffins, anenomies, and if you're lucky a starfish! Non profit volunteers are there to answer questions and inform people about the inhabitants of Haystack rock. Parking is scarce but once on the beach, you can't beat the ocean water washing sand over your feet.

Jorge Hercules

Very nice beach with this fantastic rock! Nice restaurants around as well. Worth the visit!

Carrie Manzo

Really pretty beach and a super cute town to get food and drinks and little trinkets

Suchitra Tripathi

Been there many times. Best time is to go in summer. But it’s always beautiful there. This is a Must visit spot.

Danni Glasig

The little beach town is great for a day out even if the temperature doesn't allow you to swim in the majestic Pacific Ocean. Take a walk at the beach try find some treasures, make it to a hunt who can find particular items in the beach. We found different types of algae, jelly fish, stones , driftwood and crabs. Stop for lunch and have a clam chowder

Kirstin Mulvaney

Beautiful beach and great views! If you park in the lot at Gower and cross the street, it’s a nice little walk down the beach to Haystack Rock. Access the beach down by the Wayfarer restaurant.

Laurie S

The area is beautiful! The walk on the beach is so much fun. There is usually always a breeze blowing. Don't forget to bring a jacket as when the sun goes down it gets chilly. The drive along the coast is very beautiful.

Kelley Fryman

I am in love! Such a grand and beautiful place

I C

Everyone gets excited about a piece of rock... But hey, it's a rock. Viewing from the north towards the south give better photos because of lighting. But viewing on the south gives you an idea how many birds actually were hiding there. Will recommend visiting if you have not before, must do for Cannon Beach.

Benjamin Bouton

Beautiful, iconic, pristine! Since moving to this part of the country, our family has loved coming here to enjoy the sun, sand, and COOOOOLLLD water. We have been at varying times of day, sometimes busy, sometimes quiet! The energy there is wonderful, it will always be a place that we love going back to.

Con Brennan

This is an incredibly large beach with wonderfully stocked tide pools, and varieties of bird life. The Coastal Village is wonderful with an array of shops even an incredible microbrew. You'll see cars from all over the states as it is a destination on many Travel lists, well worth the drive and you'll make wonderful memories!

Salvador Guzman

Very nice place make sure you come when is a low tide perfect moment

Emily Herivel

One of OR Coast's Best! IMHO, this is one of the prettiest Oregon coast beaches. Tidepools are so much fun at low tide, and the rock itself makes for stunning photos at any time of day. One of my favorite places for life!

xd Jovie Boi

Pretty good the jelly fish felt nice on my feet

Mrs Mardis

Wow. It's massive. I'm so impressed with the size of this rock! This is also a beautiful beach area. This was one of my favorite stops on our Oregon Coast trip! There were a lot of people the day we visited, but it is a huge beach area. Trying to figure out where to park and how to get down to the beach was a little tricky for us.

Karan Dewan

Outstanding and seems to be always popular. Nicely kept trail but small parking lot. Would be an amazing camp spot but the closest is Ecola state park still there are many entry points some less crowded than others. If you wind your way up and down Cannon beach you will find these, each one special and spectacular in their own way!

Mariano Polinesi

This is a nice place to enjoy the day by the beach, which is wide and clean. And if you love photography, it's also a cool place to take some shots. The main attraction is, of course, the Haystack. But look also for the thin tall rocks that are close to it, named "the needles".

Jackie Duke

So much better in person. So beautiful tge first day, lots if sun. Second day was foggy and damp but still nice in a completely different way. Happy I was able to do this finally! Tidepools are cool so check it out.

Kristina Daily

Such a cool place to see! Lots of starfish, sea anemones, and other living creatures to see when the tide is low. The rock is beautiful and does not look real!

Emily

Gorgeous. Just GORGEOUS. Cannon Beach is an absolutely fantastic spot to take a walk or spend the day, and Haystack Rock is a can’t-miss sight. It’s amazing to just stand and watch all of the birds circle the rock endlessly. So worth the trip just to see the rock and birds alone.

Kristina Derosier

Located at Cannon beach this is a breathtaking spot which is loved by many. The beach weather is chilly (possibly all year round) so don't forget to get a jacket. The beach is easily accessible and there are a couple of convenience store/cafes nearby as well.

Chetty Spall

One of the most beautiful places I've ever been to can't wait to go back again

Todd Miller

Haystack Rock is one of the most iconic places on the Oregon coast. I like visiting it during low tide so I can see all of the marine life. Many times there will be people with telescopes so you can see puffins, oyster catchers and other seabirds that nest there. It is an easy walk from many hotels and beach houses and of course from public parking lots in Cannon Beach.

Phoenix Black

Beautiful, clean, large beach. Haystack rock is incredible and there is plenty of room to swim, walk, surf, etc. Very close to plenty of shops and restaurants if you're interested. There are public restrooms relatively close to the shore. I highly recommend visiting this beach

Christopher Junn

One of my favourite beaches I've been to because it's so big that I feel relaxed and carefree. Although the water is cold, that doesn't mean that you can fill your day with a myriad of other activities. You can visit the tide pools to check for marine life, go shell hunting, build sandcastles, ride bikes, pick up that book that you've been meaning to read, try out the skid board, or fly one of the iconic kites that always hang in this beach's sky.

Ashleigh Hayes

How cool to finally it to Cannon Beach! We found a nice parking spot and made our way down. The haystacks are remarkable, its crazy the beauty this planet offers everywhere. The tide was low so we were able to walk up to one of the haystacks and it wasn't too crowed, a very nice and relaxing time, we went in May 2018 on a Sunday. We also saw crabs and other sea life crawling about. The best part though was finding viewpoints where they possibly filmed fort he Goonies. What a fun movie. If you can make it out I highly recommend going to see the haystacks and enjoying the ocean breeze and clean air.

David Wise

One of the best spots on the coast... scenic & safe. Another beach a little bit north had a BAD combination of people (some babies), dogs & VEHICLES!

Christopher Junn

Easy beach access. Clean. Good facilities (rest rooms, parking). Super helpful life guards.

Ocean Mayfield

Love this beach! Go here every month and visit! I camp here, chill, play, love it!

Aaron Farrell

Honestly the beach and the tide pools were amazing, but it's so much more crowded than other great areas nearby. Cannon Beach is a beautiful community and a treat to visit.

Blue Issa

Kids had a blast and didn't want to leave. Gets cold but it's worth it. The sunset was the best

OriginalBlake

Wonderful area. The beach is amazing with the singing sand and Haystack Rock is a photographer's dream. Stay out late and you'll get stunning views of the night sky lit up by the Milky Way.

Carolyn Spraggs

Beautiful tide pools at low tide. Observe sea stars, anemones, mussels, barnacles, crabs, fish and more. Remember to use one finger to touch :)

Sean McGillivray

An absolutely stunning beach. Definitely worth the trip

Ryan Grammer

Upper echelon of rocks. Lofty company with Dwayne Johnson and Alcatraz, among other notable rocks.

Fidel Lopez

The drive here was well worth it. Would recommend arriving between 10am-1pm in order to see The Rock and surrounding rocks better. Tides will come in and if you're not careful you could be stuck and forced to get wet! Hermit crabs, starfish, anemones, birds nesting and other life can be seen here. Be careful with sand fleas if you plan on dipping your feet in the water.

Shane Griffiths

This is a great, big rock. There was nearby free public parking just a short walk from the beach entrance. The beach was huge and not very crowded. Great place for a weekend trip. I especially liked the big rock.

Mumma Wells

The sea creatures were amazing while the tide was out!

Daniel Parsons

Such a beautiful location. I enjoyed every second of being there

Linda

Nature is so cool and Oregon is not lacking. We didn't get close to haystack rock but it was very humbling and almost overwhelming because of its size, even from a distance. A very best place to visit. I can't wait to come back next year.

Abhijit Ahir

Majestic rock visible from far away. Great sight.

Ryan Busk

A must see on any trip down the northern Oregon coast. Great beach, the kids played for 2 hours then we had a great dinner at Mo's next to the state park.

Nef Tuyub

Beautiful beach! Totally would recommend making a stop here! But... But. Either bring tons of sunscreen or bring an umbrella or tent or something. There is no shade and if it's a beautiful day like when we went, you are gonna want that shade to avoid a painful sunburn. Be prepared is all I'm saying.

Shalabh Sharma

The place is ethereal. The massive rock on the Cannon Beach is a sight to behold and the sunset and the reflection of the rock is just so amazing.

Andrew Z

Absolutely gorgeous. Some friends and I stayed at Cannon Beach overnight a few weeks ago and it was absolutely beautiful to see this illuminated by the moon otherwise pitch black. There was a fog that made this almost look floating at night. One of my favorite places to road trip to!

Daniel D

Picturesque monolith with great view of the ocean. Was windy/ cold at times when the sun was behind clouds. I would recommend bringing a light jacket or go during a warmer day. Parking can be a pain but we parked on a residential street. Pay attention to the parking signs will get ticketed otherwise. Spotted a few dead birds on the beach.

picklegirls

Fun to play around. A family friendly location. The rock was very beautiful and large. Many people had there dogs. There is sand around it as well as anemones.

tim

Visited while on vacation from Florida. This area and beach is a must see for visitors! What an awesome view. If you plan on swimming, bring a wetsuit. The water is around 55°F and I was told by locals that it doesn't get much warmer. Plenty of gift shops and restaurants in the area.

Melissa Fitzgerald

The most iconic thing about Cannon Beach. A great place to find barnacles and sometimes sea stars.

MD Tron

Very sad to see how much the sea life around Haystack Rock has changed over the last 10+ years. Star fish stacked ontop of eachother.... now hardly anything and they look sick, not just the star fish...

Kurm Achu

Do not be fooled, there is no hay here. There's a beach and absolutely stunning view, but no hay. Slightly disappointing if you are looking for hay.

Brianna Elder

When the tide is out early in the morning you can walk right up to haystack rock. Lots of sea life will be washed up on shore too- really cool to see. Went in July and it was 60° with COLD water- wear layers :)

Annoop Shahhare

It's the most beautiful site I have ever visited. Unfortunately with our day trip of multiple locations, we weren't able to catch sunset there. Would visit again. Make sure to wear sweat shirts. It's cold and water is super chilly.

sarah zirkle

Absolutely beautiful! The weather was perfect and no wind!

Nella Weisman

This was the highlight of this trip to Oregon!! I am a HUGE Goonies fan and HAD to come and see where the Car chase was filmed!! The beach was spectacular!! It was so cold even in the summer, i was freezing but that didn’t stop my girls from going in the water!

Roxy Davis

This place is a must see, especially for the sunset. It was a god-like experience watching the sunset over the pacific, the tide coming in and out was peaceful. Perfect little beach town too

Patricia Patten

Such a beautiful destination. When tide is low you can walk up and see the tide pools. Be prepared to walk a decent amout especially if you park on the north end of Canon Beach

Keith Odom

You shouldn't go to the Oregon coast and miss seeing these rocks. Offers an expansive beach to find your own area to relax and enjoy the waves. Water is always cold, but bring swimming attire just in case.

Julie Anderson

Second time here. A very stunning view of the ocean. We watched the whales feeding in the distance. Haystack Rock is simply an epic icon of a West Coast geographical landmark thats been etched away by wind and crashing tides through the eons. The sea life is literally at your feet at the base of Haystack Rock. Look, don't touch... tiny life depends on respectful humans and the faithful souls who guard the sanctity and safety of the Urchins and Puffins who give new life to another generation of amazingly beautiful creatures of the ocean and its safe harbors they call home.

amy craven

A wonderful sight on the coast of oregon...and the tide was out so got a lot closer to the rocks and tide pools

Jeff Borden

Iconic Oregon coast. I take all my guests here to get a taste of the PacNorWest coast. Great eateries around Cannon Beach as well!

karen lavallie

What more can you say, it's The Goonies beach!! Amazing, educational, pelicans, tidal pools, and amazing food. Next time I will stay longer.

Julian Eyer

Really enjoyed our time here even though it was cut short due to a jellyfish sting. I guess that was unusual to see so many jellyfish, but something to look out for if you go in the water or walking near the water. We will definitely be back with more caution next time.

Sam Nelson

The town is great and the beach is cute, but most importantly we saw Tufted Puffins nesting at the rock!! There also were a lot of interesting anemones and seaweed in the tide pools area. If I lived in the area, I would be visiting here daily to track the puffin's nesting progress and cheer on their rehabitation efforts.

RWBgold7

Amazing beauty of nature.. Definitely top 10 site of Oregon year round. It's also featured in the Goonies. Pro-tip: check the low tide times (7-10a) and if the tide diff. -2 ft, you can walk all the way around Haystack Rock to a hidden cave. You'll see puffins nests on the rock and of amazing sea life that's normally hidden under water (starfish, anenmeas, crab, mollusks..). Enjoy!!

S M

This is a nice rock, it is in the ocean and there are a lot of birds on it Including seagulls, puffins and pelicans. The birds are very loud if you looking for a quiet beach I might recommend somewhere else. It looks very tall and I’m sure it’s been here for sometime and it makes a great backdrop for for photographs. Never say die. Great tide pools if you visit at low tide that are chock-full of starfish, mollusks and crabs. Some of the best times to visit it are at sunrise and sunset. Area reminded me of the Goonies movie.

Jeremy Sandberg

It is super cool. There is tons and tons of wild life. Tiny crabs, hermit crabs, clams, muscles, sea anenomies.

Ahlam Damtew Vlogs

The best Beach place in Oregon! It is a great sightseeing place to look at all the ROCKS up close. It is also fun to look at seagulls trying to catch human food at the rock attraction. Calling all toursits go get to cannon beach and haystack rock before summer ends!

Mama Kersh

I love Cannon Beach!!! It is the best beach in the whole wide world because of its soft sand and because of the haystack rock. Pig and poke is really good too. Pizza Fietta the best pizza place on earth! The surfing is amazing at Cannon Beach because how big the waves are. It is a great place for family reunion!!!

Nick Makiney

Made a day trip down here with the family. Very cool beach, my one and a half year old daughter loved it. We'll be coming back next summer.

Paula F.

Worth a few hours to enjoy! Great for the kids and adults alike.

Sean Goiburn

I'm a Portland native and I've been coming to Cannon Beach since I was little. I'll never be not be in awe of Haystack Rock each time I come to visit. A true wonder. It's beautiful every time.

Iain Sloan

The beach is nice but busy at times. The rock and tide pools are fantastic. Watch where you walk and don't stand on the hermit crabs. There are lifeguards on duty. There is also a. Informative trailer display about the nesting birds and the tide pool inhabitants.

Cassandra Schrodt

I've been here before, but this visit was most spectacular. We came at just the right time, about 5:15 pm, the tide was lower than I had ever seen. We got to see a live star fish. I really appreciate the people there that helped educate visitors about the site, they have an extremely important job.

Caleb Schnarr

Quick walk from out B&B. The beach was clean and the people friendly. Beautiful site!

Dallas Ervin

A beautiful place to visit, but do so during low tide for a better view.

Susanta Neogi

It is a very unique experience to see large volcanic structures arising from the sea together with seagulls jellyfish and we did not see the bird which this place is famous for as we did not carry binoculars

Ellie S

Such an amazing beach to walk along and take in the towering sight of Haystack Rock, the smell of the beach and the crash of the waves. So glad that after watching the Goonies 20 years ago, I finally got to see this beautiful place. This was my favorite beach on the Oregon coast when we were traveling. A must see!

Ryan Phoenix

Cool. But a bit hyped up. Can get some good photos. I hear there's a good place to surf about 30 minutes north. Nice trails and photo op at the park north of haystack rock as well.

Akhilanand

It is worth the drive from Portland. It is just breathtaking. The beaches are pretty good as well. Parking can get a lil tricky. Make sure you park in the city and walk to the beach. We couldn’t find anything near the beach. There’s a parking lot in front of the post office I guess

Alethea Kruger

Of course I'm going to love it! If your an 80s child this is a must stop place! Beautiful view, found some shells worth keeping and though it was a little rainy it didn't take away from the beauty of the place

Charles W Basden

Interesting rock formation. You will get more spectacular views of the coast from the 101 highway stop/view points. Cannon Beach town is a nice little stop if you’ve been driving a lot.

Karen Saunders

Beautiful area along the Oregon Coast. The sights are just magnificent. Haystack Rock was just another one. This 235 foot rock is very accessible by foot at low tide.

Bipasha Biswas

The beautiful Haystack Rock is timeless and a reminder to stop and take a break from the busy - ness all around. Free parking closeby and washrooms close by. Dog friendly beach is a huge plus.

Paula Sharpe

It was the perfect day to see it ! The sun was shining it's love on us and there was very little wind .nice clean beach ! It's well worth the drive. Oregon beaches are so much better than Washington

Julia Kolesnyk

Favorite beach ever! You will find a lot of people taking wedding/prom/family photos, getting engaged, or just having a good time! This beach is so magical - the huge rock is covered with green and the birds constantly fly and sit on it! The most breathtaking beach ever!

Mirisha Bogardus

It's a long walk, but so worth it. Absolutely beautiful, the beach was perfect! Not too windy which is saying something about the cutest of you know what I mean. There's a Mo's right in the beach there as well if you get hungry, as well as a park and outdoor restrooms. There are bunnies running all around as well, which is a fun sure for kids, but dogs want to chase so FYI if you have a dog.

Jill Harwell

Lots of area roped off, but you could still see a good amount of tide pools and beach area accessible. Only problem I had was that there were an extraordinarily large amount of people. Any picture you take will have people in it, but not the end of the world

PDX REP

Located at Cannon beach this is a breathtaking spot which is loved by many. The beach weather is chilly (possibly all year round) so don't forget to get a jacket. The beach is easily accessible and there are a couple of convenience store/cafes nearby as well. Ecola State Park is located very closely which also gives a scenic view of the pacific coast.

Joy Jenkins

We loved exploring the Oregon coast! It’s beautiful! I recommend taking this trip

Julia Nechayev

This is a very nice beach. We enjoyed looking at the marine life by the Haystack Rock.

Chandra Mohan

Beautiful beach. View of the Haystack rock from beach is marvelous. Small public parking lot though

Hippo Hardware

It's a big flipping rock with birds on top don't understand all the excitement

Bence Pálos

Absolutly stunning location! Easy access, lots of free street parking close

Chris V

It's a big rock, also don't touch the water draining into the ocean.

Kris Ostrander

What's not to love? Even on a damp morning, Haystack Rock is a beautiful place. The fact that we were there on a negative tide day made this morning even more amazing. To see the sea anenomes and star fish that are normally not seen this close and personal was a wonderful sight.

Alicia Mold

Worth going out of your way to see! A stunning beach. Spent the entire day here exploring the sand banks and rock pools when the tide changes!

Jeff Wooden

Cannon beach is crowded and touristy. But, I still love the beach with its dramatic and beautiful rocky shore. The majestic Haystack Rock is Instagram worthy. More importantly, it is a treasure to enjoy close up for its tide pools and nesting birds. It's well worth putting up with the crowds.

Chuck Slack

This is one of my favorite places because it's so pretty. Walking the beach with Haystack rock in the background is very enjoyable. When the tide is low there are tide pools with anemones, sea urchins, etc. Lots of birds nest on the rock, including puffins, which can be best seem with binoculars.

Kay-Lynn Bowman

Haystack rock in Cannon Beach is a must visit on places to go! We went at the lowest tide, -1.7 on July 4th. So many amazing sea creatures, birds, exploring to do around the rock formation. So worth the walk along the beach.

Victoria S.

I love Haystack Rock, Canon Beach and the whole area. The locals are nice and there are many shops to browse. My favorite eatery is the Lazy Susan. But the beach is the best!

Tonjia Linderoth

I had seen lots of photos before but you have to see it for yourself to appreciate the size of it. And seeing the puffins was a bonus. Although sad their population is down almost half, just from last season.

Robert Rael

Went there on the recommendation of a friend. Had absolutely great time. Weather was perfect. Beautiful beach. Will definitely be back again.

Bob Johnson

Very nice pl as ce to take a few pictures and walk the beach.

Vincent Rush

Iconic location for photos as well a a great vibe in the surrounding town.

Robert Bolar

Really a neat and fascinating rock along the beach! I have quite honestly never seen anything like it. The seagulls were very much a part of the rock also. People were friendly and the temperature was perfect. The water was reportedly very cold.

Kai Lin

Just as pretty as in the pictures. Could not find an actual parking lot and parked in front of houses one the hill.

Norma Lilia

One of my favorite places to visit on a nice sunny day in Oregon. Only an hour from Portland, it’s a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The water is cold year round, during the hottest time of the summer the water can be a little warm but not enough to attract huge crowds. You’ll find more tourists and locals along the strip than in the actual beach in my opinion. My best tip is to get there early as parking is limited during the summer days.

Keith Mansur

This is just down the beach a few hundred yards from Haystack Rock. Great midday at Cannon Beach

Dan Owens

Beautiful scenic area with a vast expanse of beach. Haystack Rock is huge and quite impressive! Parking can be problematic but be persistent and you'll find a place! Highly recommended!

Husenbhai Dudhiyawala

This beach rock has an amazing view if looked from a very far place. There's street parking. The beach is average as there's little less cleaning there. Kids will enjoy a lot. Good views during Sunset.

Nicole Eng-Pierson

More beautiful in person. My family and myself had to go on the 'Goonies' experience. We had a blast! I highly recommend it. This was our last stop. Breath taking.

Sean Faison

Get there early for the beautiful sunrises and keep an eye out for the wild rabbits.

darlene seyer

We visit here every year I love this place now I'm able to enjoy with my grandson

TinCanGoat McClellin

The original haystack rock is cool the first time, but loses its luster compared to many other views nearby. Lots of crowds, even in pouring rain. But the beach is expansive and good eats are nearby, so stop in and take in a sunset. It's worth it. Plus there's a bunch of bunnies hopping around. Everyone loves bunnies.

Alessandra Alves Hermes

Very windy but pretty place to visit. If you have little kids, be aware of the waves.

Flannery Diehl

Cloudy day. Cool. Birds everywhere of all types. A guide to help us figure it all out. Beautiful

Anne Wagner

Low low tides around Haystack make for tidepooling opportunities. When the tide is up & surrounds the rock, it's beautiful in other ways

Shivani Wanjara

Beauty! Easy access to the beach. Public parking available. Right next to it is the coffee shops. Easily accessible restrooms as well! If you like rocks and the ocean. This is the spot. You can often find small wedding happening around :) super friendly stores in the town. It’s a wonderful day trip form Portland! Watch pier for the tides before you head for the beach if you are afraid of them waves.

Jessica Fisher

One of the most iconic spots on the Oregon coast, haystack rock is a great place to bring the whole family. If you're able to make it on low tide. Come observe the natural tide pools around the base of the rock. please be mindful of all the wild life because haystack rock is a bird refuge, and the tide pools are easily damaged. While your there check out down town Cannon Beach. You can find something fun for all ages

Barb Tinker

Great experience! Tide was WAY out (like 200 ft!) Lots of sea life on and around the rocks (don't touch!) It was near dusk & people were having fires on the beach. Great experience! Cute shops with good prices all kinds of things. Clean public restroom. Lots of restaurants! RV camping/parking nearby with a long walk to the public access.

Bradley Jay

Majestic. Really enjoyed a family holiday down here.

Brian Miars

Very touristy spot but there are amazing views. The sunsets are phenomenal with many great angles for photography or simply enjoying the views.

Kendall Larson

Very nice beach and rock. Lots of area roped off, but you could still see a good amount of tide pools and beach area accessible. Only problem I had was that there were an extraordinarily large amount of people. Any picture you take will have people in it, but not the end of the world. Nice stop if you’re driving along the coast.

Eddie Mencke

Beautiful coastal views. Very nice little town as well with plenty of shopping and dining establishments to wander through.

The beach was beautiful and the cliffs and rocks were gorgeous. Great photo opportunities and lots of room for large groups.

Vijay Kumar Neema

Fantastic beach ... drive was excellent from Portland to Cannon beach via route #26. Very less public parking though. Which usually gets full easily on long weekends & holidays. Sunset was awesome.

Abbigail rinke

Amazing to see in person. Gives you an up close view of a huge bird family living on top. Plus a bonus you get to relive part of the goonies movie!

Seth Neeley

The beach is very long, so you can get some peace and quiet. The town streets are nearby if you need food, drink, or restroom. The rock was really neat to see, especially when the tide goes out and you can get a little closer.

Stacy H

Such a beautiful spot to take the family or if just needing some solo time on the beach. Caught some good weather and the waves were righteous. Cant wait to make another trip here to take in all of God's beauty at this particular spot.

Elbia Thornton

This beach in Oregon is beautiful. The beach water is cool but the scenery is spectacular and the sand is clean! We were here in August and we have been there before several times and it’s always a good experience and has never been crowded. This visit we got to get up close to the big haystack and saw sooo much sea life. There were many ⭐️ starfish everywhere and staff were guarding to make sure no one harmed them. They also answered many questions people had and were very patient and informative!

Melissa Fallon

Oh honey. Im not on the east coast anymore.

Kevin Welch

Amazing beach vibe. Easy to explore in any shoes or clothes. Lots of dogs and people walking around. Took me back to my childhood, waiting for one-eyed Willie to show up. Gets more amazing with each step you take towards it. The beach allows campfires but no overnight camping. Easily one of the coolest places I've been.

The largest coastal rock on the WEST COAST. One of the top landmarks off the 101, and a must see! Eat some clam chowder at the nearby Mo's Seafood as well!

Beautiful rock jutting out from the ocean casting a shadow over the beach. Great photographic spot. Famous for being displayed in several films such as the Goonies. It is huge. At low tide you can reach it but note it is a wildlife sanctuary. park far away and walk. The walk is well worth it. This area can be packed during high seasons so I suggest, for a perfect photo, arrive very early or very late. There is no entrance fee to the beaches here.

Rebecca MacDonald

Great place to spend the day with family and friends. The beach is dog friendly too which is a plus. There’s plenty of room to find your own spot and setup for the day. ☀️

Justin Wilhere

Amazing destination so easily accessible for kids of all ages. Wade in the surf, fly a kite or enjoy a long walk down the miles of beach.

Harris Zafar

Beautiful site! It was a nice sunny and surprisingly warm day. There were a good number of people at the beach m, but it wasn't crowded at all.

Rhonda Gilezane

Awesome marine geologic site. The best part is when the tide goes out daily and you can get very close to the rock structure and view the many marine creatures that call the rock home.

Barb Tinker

susan morin

Very cool! They are gigantic! Not at all what I expected. It's truly breath taking to see up close in person. I highly recommend visiting this city and this spot.

Sam Jenne

It's a giant rock. That's about it. Cool place to see, take a photo, and keep walking. Not life changing Not as exciting as flex seal tape Not political

Kathrin Collins

Popular tourist attraction. Beautiful wide sandy beach. Dogs are allowed with a leash on the beach, however you do see a lot of dogs off leash. Parking is a little challenging to find along the way but way worth a stroll and some pictures

Shari Wheeler

This was amazing! We went during the tide pools which was really cool. Goonies!!

Trish Harrison

Cannon Beach is really nice. You can walk to town, cute shops and lots of restaurants.

Tim Minter

Amazing place for a sunset shoot. Get there early to claim a spot and enjoy the view!

Ignacio Ottati

Pretty cool and super touristy spot in Oregon, about an hour and a half from Portland. The city/town is small but very charming, with lots of people walking the streets and heading towards the beach. The rock is memorable for sure and worth visiting for some nice pictures. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Portland, OR.

Lauralei Singsank

Beautiful in August! It was warm out, mid 70s, and sunny all day long. It was also cool to see the puffins flying around, I didn’t know Oregon had those!

Qing Chao

We loved it here! The birds flying around the rocks and you can even borrow a binocular to view them for free. Perfect for families and dogs. A must go if you're visiting Oregon coasts! also, great restaurants within walking distance!

Allie Moore

I’d seen it in pictures hundreds of times but seeing it in person was absolutely, 100% worth the trip. The beach is gorgeous and you can walk for quite a while checking out the coast line. The rocks themselves are so dramatic! Lots of vantage points to take them in. The town is very cute and a neat place to wander around.

Ryan Haggard

A pretty west coast beach. Good for a daily stroll.

Jacque Casement

Nice place for a day trip it's on the coast about an hour's drive from Portland

Rob Hnasko

Loved it. My favorite beach in Northern Oregon. Warm waters and the best wildlife views. Saw puffins and bald eagles and baby gulls.

Tatiana Laibinis

Stunning place to take photos or sit back and enjoy the view.

General Dexter

What a beautiful place! I think I can now do my own wallpaper using some great photos of this historic page. The end of the Lewis and Clark trails are filled with beauty, nature and a great place to hike.

Christopher Todd

There are tide pools on the beach with cute sea critters. Please be respectful and only look :)

KarenMae Arreola

Such a beautiful day out, with the exception of it being so windy! Still was able to capture a few good pictures! Wish we made it out here earlier in the day though for better lighting. If anything, it would’ve been great weather to fly a kite for sure!

Mardee Van Brunt

It's a Gorgeous place. Makes you feel so small .

Miki

It's just a rock in the water, right? If you catch it in the right light, it's a dragon sleeping (we called it Dragon Butt during our visit). We stayed at a lovely spa overlooking this monolith and there was something magical about watching the day and the light change around it. It's also a haven for a variety of life, including seals and birds and other smaller flora and fauna, so there is no climbing on the rock. Worth protecting, a group of volunteers will roll up and help to do just that most days the tide rolls out, offering educational tidbits and answering questions. The rock is a lovely photogenic high point to a long walkable beach. I suggest trying it barefoot, to get the full effect.

Ryan Turnmire

Awesome place. Walk out a bit and look for the sea anenomes, crabs, starfish, mussels, barnacles, jellyfish (washed up dead, usually, don't worry), sand dollars, and whatever else you may find! Just be careful not to get pooped on by the birds if you get up close. No worries though, the ocean is right there :)
