well laid out, plenty to explore, grandson loved it

Anthony Bustamante

Great place. Not all of the areas were active but there is a lot of fun and interactive areas to enjoy. Best part by far was going o to the boat which is included in the admission

James Godshalk

Excellent and very interesting collection. Makes understanding of the tremendous natural forces where the powerful Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean.

Jeff Crump

Kid friendly and educational, my family loved learning about the history of the "Northwest passage"

Robert Hockemeyer

Amazing what the water can do on the river and ocean

Jackie Jacobson

Wonderful experience. Insightful. And inspiring.

Nathaniel M.

A lot of cool local history here. They also had a guy teaching you how to make a thick piece of rope out of four pieces of twine. My kids enjoyed this demonstration and were able to take home a piece they helped create.

Ernie Sawyer

Excellent visuals, family-friendly activities that are not dumbed-down, interactive exhibits and a really nice gift shop. The 3D movies sounded really interesting, but I can't watch them. Going through the lighthouse ship wasreally great as well.

So awesome! A lot to see and learn. Astoria is a very quaint, historic town.

matthew woods

A really cool museum depicting all fazes of the Columbia River and where it meets the Pacific ocean. A little more geared to adults than children (which is why child admission price is low, only $5 in 2019). The layout flows well and has just about all the info you can manage to absorb in an afternoon. Absolutely worth going at least once.

Fae Evrnyt

Had very informative exhibits, and intriguing artifacts along with recreations to preserve the history of the area.

Rhonda Clancy

Always great. Nicely organized and displayed

Susan Ternyey

Great way to broaden your perspectives, and your kids'. A little pricey, but worth exploring at least once. Great videos of ships in storms, weather, ships and boats, local history, native American and American history, WWII, fishing, whaling. Kid activities. Things to oh and ah over...a couple wheelchair issues ...

What a great Maritime Museum they have here. This place takes its United States Coast Guard history very seriously. The videos are informative and entertaining. The full sized 44' surf boat is very cool! There is alot of varied history in the area that I was not aware of. It is well worth a visit to see what is here.

Linda Crooks

The admission price seemed steep. After spending considerable time enjoying the displays and learning an immense amount of information, though, I can justify the admission cost. It's an amazing museum!

Damon Starnes

Lee Damon

Looking forward to the return of the Native American exhibit. A good place for a few hours exploration.

Jenny Lee

The Columbia River Maritime Museum is a museum of maritime history with it's showcase of valuable relics and nautical knowledge. By using a telescope

Richard Ferris

A very nice well-developed museum. This Museum covers The Sandbar, the Columbia River, and local fishing Enterprise. The displays are extremely well done and professionally restored. They have the previous two eras of Coast Guard rescue crafts on display as well as the original palette ship from the Columbia River. This is a first class Museum it has the additional bonus of the lighthouse ship Columbia you can tour all except the engine room deck. To understand the Columbia River Bar, the dangers that it presented and the many shipwrecks it caused, this museum is a must

rekarts7704

I like the museum and am always impressed by the 3D movies they show here.

Carmen Woitas

Great museum. Kid and family friendly. Not much to break and exciting and engaging things to look at. Large open rooms that make it easy to roam throughout. Weather, sea conditions, coast guard, pacific war, old ships, fishing ships, navigation etc. exhibits. A employee was hosting a rope making lesson which we partook and it was quite fun and educational. There was a theatre playing a movie on the USS Ronald Reagan which we did not see. Also, a hall or room (the ford room) - did not venture into it. There is a coast guard ship outside the museum docked that we had access to, but due to the weather we didn't go. Very friendly staff throughout. Clean facility - floors, exhibits, displays, windows (didn't use restrooms while there). Large gift shop with lots well made items to choose from for all ages. Not too crowded allowing for easy navigation. There was a wheelchair lift to a landing without a ramp, but it wasn't working. I assume if we would have asked they could have turned it on. Would be more than happy to return. Cost was as per the website : Adults (18+): $14.00 Seniors (65+): $12.00 Children (6-17): $5.00 Children under 6: FREE Active duty military: FREE 3D Film $5.00

Wanda Raphael

Learning about the Astoria's cultural and maritime history was very interesting. Loved seeing the artifacts collected

Dave Brandman

Interesting displays showing the history of the area, and its relationship to the mouth of the Columbia River.

Jan Dozier-Easterbrook

This seemingly small museum was actual much larger inside than we expected! There are some really good exhibits. My husband loved the Coast Guard exhibit the best. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to go through the whole place so you don't miss anything!

Sarah Bustamante

Awesome place! Learned a lot and friendly atmosphere!

Calvin Ross

Nice museum, tour of ship. Getting to know the Columbia River.

Bryan Westover

Very nice museum! Had a lot of displays that were very interesting. Columbia ship was a lot of fun to walk through and see how sailers lived and worked!

Steven Owens

Amazing history of the shipping in the Columbia river many displays of various maritime significant events

Stephen Jackson

Very informative about the history of the region, but no real flow to the exhibits and not much for children to do.

Brian Alan

I highly recommend visiting this museum along the Columbia River. The amount of Maritime history packed into this facility is amazing. You can easily spend the day here trying to read every placard add see, in detail, all of the exhibits offered. Don't forget to venture out to the North side of the building and check out the excellent view of the river and the extraordinarily long bridge spanning it to Washington State.

Jacob Dill

Great mixture of local and non local maritime history. Sadly at the time of visit, most interactive displays were down for maintenance. Despite that the visit was very enjoyable and informative. Anytime you leave with more knowledge than you arrived, I'd call it a success.

Peter LaBelle

Love the exhibits at this museum. Great view of freighters and tankers line up on the Columbia river. If you intend to watch a movie, bring a hoodie or jacket; it can be very cold in the theater.

Andrew Finley

Pretty fun, lots of cool historical stuff

Mark Loween

Awesome things about the fishing boats, and about the coast guard. Worth going there.

Mark Yan.

Great museum. Outside has huge anchors can look at and climb for kids. Inside was really nice also, lots of cool history items to look at it. Friendly people. And our tour included going on a ship outside.

Loy Knight

Fantastic for ship and sailing lovers

Samantha Van Allen

Whenever in Astoria, I always visit the Maritime museum. It's such a fun place for children and adults alike. It gives appreciation as well for all that comes in and out of the Columbia as it gives overview of the dangers. Definitely a place to stop by!

Kyra H

Had a great time, learned a lot. Need to spend minimum of 3hrs to see everything. Go there and enjoy!

Elizabeth K Rodgers

Great Maritime history exhibition...needed more than a couple of hours for sure. 3D Costeau movie was beautiful and informative. Columbia River movie with bar pilots was well done. Need to return if I am in the area. Definitely put on you "to visit" list.

Michelle Bubbie

So glad someone recommended this museum. Not only is the architecture of the building striking, the displays are well organized and fascinating. Ticket includes a self tour on the "light" ship Columbia. Very informative about the fishing industry and the people who work in it. Nice gift shop on the premises, too.

Dom DAltilio

Very interesting, allow time to visit all the exhibits it's worth it

The Best of Yet Another Pixel Dungeon

Good i enjoyed i especially loved the 3D movie

So much to see and learn from. Dont miss the Columbia outside. Great chance to see an actual lighthouse boat.

Kathleen Beckman

Lots to offer, so much to listen and learn. Loved this museum.

Stephanie Steele

You must visit The Columbia River Maritime Museum when in Astoria. It is a world class facility documenting the unique environment of the lower Columbia River and Pacific Northwest coast.

Delsay Karstens

It's worth every cent

Barbara Bolich

Lovely exhibits, but most interactive displays were missing parts or broken. Not particularly child-friendly displays, but we were adults, so what do i know? Great info on Columbia River history, not much on Native People and their maritime experiences. We enjoyed touring the lightship, which has much better bunks than aircraft carriers and submarines! Nice volunteers, easily navigated rooms, only a few places wheelchairs and strollers cannot get to. Greenscreen booth allows you to film someone being a meeteorologist, but as it had the only bench, was occupied.

E. Rogers

Very interesting and interactive. The staff is very knowledgeable about the fascinating artifacts on display. Anyone interested in Pacific maritime history should definitely visit!

Brian Rohan

I don't know anything about the museum. Was lucky enough on vacation to be in Astoria during "The Great Race" stop.

Todd Seemann

Really enjoyed learning about the local Maritime history and even the vessels of today

Amanda Hansen

Really interesting material and exhibits, though I wish there was a bit more for children under 10 or 12 to keep them engaged. Otherwise, super informative. Loved the Columbia lighthouse ship!

Justin Metz

Wasn't sure how I'd like this place, not really being into boats and all, but a surprisingly eclectic collection of artifacts and info of both modern and historic maritime happenings in the mouth of the mighty Columbia! Learned some wacky history, too. Such as, Warrenton having a brief whaling history... to feed local mink farms of the time?! Also, shark fishing during WWII... to help improve pilot night vision!?

Jake Melcher

$14 for an adult seemed very appropriate. The museum is full of facts and great displays. Might not recommend for kids under 10 if the adults want to soak it in. Floating light boat in the river was very neat to tour.

Gregory Davis

Really great museum about the Columbia River and and the River Bar. All of the history of the boats built and named after the area. Also the fishing that goes on there. The Coast Guard training that goes on there. Just a wonderful, really well done experience that is more than worth the small price you pay to get in. Highly recommend visiting.

Linda Mills

Went on a field trip with 5th graders. They put on an awesome presentation and the museum exhibits were great! I loved the gift shop too, I am planning on going back.

Carol Oldshield

This museum has so much history and information! We took my brother-in-law. He was in the coast guard years ago and he wanted to see all the Columbia River information. He found it fascinating!

Good for history buffs. Lots of audio and visual information

Kiki Furrow

Wonderful museum spacious and informative. Loved touring the Columbia ship and feeling history.

Steve Crandell

Really nice museum. Well worth a visit.

Jeff Cary

An annual family favorite. Tons of exhibits detailing info about the rich history of Astoria and its roll in the cannery industry, WW2, and the Coast Guard. They even have a retired lighthouse ship you can tour at no extra cost.

Jamie Sloan

Great history. Several exhibits not working. Seems a bit expensive for the experience.

Dawn Winokur

Seems there is always something new to explore. Great overviews of the Colombia through the years

Brandy Bacon

I completely enjoyed the walk through of the light ship. There are some activities for all those young at heart. Lots of neat history of Pacific Northwest mariners and their magnificent ships.

Garett Chong

Enjoyed learning about the PNW coastal maritime history

Chuck Layne

Great info on the Coast Guard! True heros!! It's a "must see" if you're in the area.

Thomas Tang

Neat place. Some interesting displays with cool info. Would like them to be able to expand and update what they have. Please support!

Melissa Nelson

My family spent a good 2 hours here. A lot of cool exhibits and hands on activities for the kids. You get to tour the inside of the USS Columbia Lighthouse Boat!

Anna Bromberger

It is a great place to learn the history of a beautiful place in the Pacific Northwest. Adults and kids alike will enjoy

celina arellano

Very Interesting. It takes like 2 hours to see the whole museum.

Mary Painter

Very nice museum and helpful staff. Would've liked to spend more time here!

Kathleen Mehfoud

Informative and lots of videos. Kids will like the hurricane simulator.

Marlene Smith

A great museum with something for everyone. My young nephew who is 6 enjoyed it as well as my 86 year old dad. Displays for kids, hands on, they can go in boats. They also got to make hard tack. My dad really enjoyed the ww1 and ww2 displays. Also local history that was presented in an interesting manner. I didn't expect to like it that much, but I liked it too.

Larry

Totally surprised. I've been through/stayed in Astoria dozens of times and finally visited the CRMM. One of the best and interesting museums. It is a must visit.

Lynn Martin

It was great to go into the Columbia ship and the museum was very cool.

Marcelita Mahoney

Informative and fun if your kids love boats like my son. He was in awe the whole time. Our daughter, who wasn't a fan at first, also enjoyed the interactive activities and boat tour.

Alex Clayton

Excellent museum filled with myriad exhibits. Highly recommended!

James Wright

Amazing place full of soo much Oregon history. Family fun and worth every penny

PISTOLARROWS OUTDOORS

This is a really nice place to stop and check out the boats. Not as kid friendly as you would think, but lots to check out and do. You get to go aboard a big boat!

Michael H

this place is okay to go check out some little bit on the expensive side to go through the actual museum but there's plenty of to do and see outside of the museum there's some cool boats and if the paddle wheel boats and you can't or that too.there's also a trolley you can cash the goes up and down the coast of Astoria and generally the people doing the narrations are pretty funny and very knowledgeable. it runs from May to September it's a free ride but they would appreciate a donation since they're all volunteers and it does cost quite a bit since this is a restored 1900 trolley.

Jedidah Dinson

Such a neat museum. Definitely worth a trip, and your museum entrance fee also covers touring the Columbia ship right outside the museum. Entrance fees are super affordable. My 8 and 9 year old loved it. Lots of interacting.

GEORGE MARTIN

A lot of interesting facts about the mouth of the Columbia River a as it flows into the Pacific ocean. I really didn't think I would enjoy a maritime museum but this was awesome.

Steve Miller

Great historical artifacts. Details of the Columbia River basin and all the sunk vessels and why is fascinating. Beautiful exhibits and friendly staff....going aboard the Columbia vessel was a highlight as well.

Edgar Gaunt

Great presentation, could have spent more time there.

Sandra Pierce

This museum is full of old artifacts with lots of information/ history on the Columbia River, the mouth of the ocean, and the coastguard. It houses several different types of ship's too!

Pete Fields

Amazing info/history. Plan on half day or more to enjoy. Met ham radio operator in ship that resulted in nearly an hour of amazing conversation, worth saying "HI" to them as you pass by!

river fink

Best example of the history of the Columbia River I have ever seen. Could have spent the day in the museum and come away with the best history lesson ever. Thanks to the folks who have contributed.

jstacy 43229

Rushed on our tour of Astoria. Would have liked to have had more time here. Plan 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Fascinating/sad to learn about the Japanese flags our US soldiers kept for souvenirs during the war. If only we could have understood one another's cultures better. Glad to hear many are being returned to the families.

Jeff Swanson

The museum is very informative. Some of the exhibits were empty and some of the interactive portions did not function. However, great flow within the museum and very friendly staff

Pamela Myers

This place was fantastic. Enjoyed it very much

Chris Young

Very interesting exhibits, not dry or boring ones. Great store for gifts and books

Michael Henning

I have driven past Maritime Museum dozens of times during my Oregon coast adventures. I finally had the opportunity to visit. Lots of exhibits related to historical accounts of the fishing/canning industry, severe weather events, and navigating the Pacific Ocean/Columbia River. These exhibits are well done and engaging as they are placed throughout the museum. I definitely recommend it!

Mark Jensen

Don't miss this if you are traveling thru Astoria. Truly a wonderful time, and memorable experience.

Charles Mahar

Super fun, clean, and 3D movie my 4 year old loved!

Bobby Ballance

Great place to learn about the USCG.

Maddy I

Totally fun! Much bigger museum than it looks. Lots of attractions to look at. Covers the Columbia River bar, WWII, fishing history of Columbia River, USS Astoria, coast guard, and more. Includes some interactive displays, videos, and audio if you don't want to read everything. Fun family vaca spot, especially for a curious mind!

Olivier Jullian

Great place for the whole family, plan on spending a couple of hours at least.

Jeannette Fedorka

Manageable size museum with well presented information.

Don Zimmerer

Mark Ward

Super expansive maritime history museum. Especially liked section on navigation and local fisheries.

Don Hofacker

My gosh the staff is amazing. Spent hours inside and never wavered in more to see. So much to learn.

Ian Hutchinson

I love this place. We come out here every 3 years and it is always interesting to me. Great exibits and a good place to walk around by the water.

Doug A

A very good museum with information and displays on ships both old and new used by the Coast Guard. As well as the many shipwrecks where the Columbia river meets the Pacific Ocean. It also includes a history of salmon fishing and canning. Adults 18+ are $14 and seniors 65 and older are $12. Kids 6 to 17 are $5 with kids under 6 free. Activate military are also free. Admission also includes visiting the Columbia lightship, previously used as a lighthouse where you couldn't build one. Go onboard to learn more.

Karl Heeter

Way to much to see in one visit. A lot of history to cover in this area over the last several hundred years. Large exhibit on world war II.touching exhibit on the capturing of Japanese flags and returning them to survivors in Japan.

Ganganess A

This is a very interesting museum with alot of information. I never knew that I could be so interested in any of these events or ships but the museum makes everything interesting by having very cool models and videos. I have to say the view of the channel is also quite amazing.

Molly McGee

The museum was very interesting and had lots of exhibits. Really enjoyed learning about the Columbia River Bar Pilots.

Kristin Chappell

Cool place to go. Lots of interesting stuff. The Columbia was a great exploration for about 5 seconds until I started having Titanic-itus and needed to get out. For someone who likes history though, definitely a good stop!

Jim McClanahan

Very interesting and informative. The bar is a dangerous place. Excellent films and exhibits.

Tracie Smith

This is one of the best museums I've seen. The visual are excellent. The movie was 3d and it was about the Aircraft Carrier.

Gina Strumpf

I visited the Columbia River Maritime Museum while aboard the Queen of the West along the Louis and Clark Trail on the Columbia River. This museum is absolutely awesome and should not be missed. If you really want to touch your adventure excitement a cruise with American Cruise Lines is a great way to see the Pacific North West and enjoy fine dinning, entertainment and a art enrichment workshop!

Charles B

Amazing place. Lots to see and learn. The history of Astoria and it's ties to the Columbia River goes way, way back. Even before Lewis & Clark as a whaling station started by the British. Plan on spending some time to fully appreciate the many exhibits. Especially those of the US Coas Guard and their challenging mission here on the Columbia River Bar.

Gerrit Kelly

Love the museum, took my 7 year old on our way home from camping. She thought it was so cool and got a understanding of the size of the Columbia river and the role of the coast guard. Ans so much more. Then had lunch at Moe's

Courtney Leopard

I HIGHLY recommend visiting this museum and I also HIGHLY recommend spending at least 2 hours here to fully experience the museum. My husband and I had an amazing time here.

Tom Harner

Very interesting. Good displays. $12 bucks but I thought it was worth it.

justin young

This is a fantastic local museum, with diverse exhibits. Much larger than I was anticipating.

Robert Slayton

Very interesting, quite a few of the "active" displays were out of order which was quite disappointing. Being able to board the Columbia lightship was great.

Scott Warner

A Great look into history

Sarah Warner

I wanted to like it much more than I actually did. I didn't hate it but I thought it was different somehow. There was so much information about our local Columbia River, Astoria, and more! Admission was $14 per adult, ages 6 and under are free (I've included a photo of admission prices, current as of 9-29-19). There was so much care put into all of the displays: the mannequins are incredibly lifelike and there's many places for people to interact with the exhibits. I especially loved the Astoria specific section, and learning about Sharksville. For any fellow pressed penny collectors, there were none at this location

Deborah Coblentz

This place is exceptional and service people were delightful and friendly. First time for husband and myself and really enjoyed it. We bought tickets for both theater shows and were pleased with both of them. Was first time for me to see a 3-D presentation and really enjoyed it. We are from Newport and have an annual membership with the Newport Aquarium and this was your month for free admission which we appreciated. My husband saw a few exhibits and enjoyed all he saw. The gift shop is my downfall, I just find things that I can enjoy myself and also for gifts. We just really enjoyed sitting outside in the fresh air and watching the ships. Both of us agreed that we would return. Thanks for the experience.

Keila Qual

Amazing artifacts, which was richly informative of coast guards history and salmon history had a 3D cinema inside that you could watch for an additional 5 dollars but totally worth it and had wonderful history on Japanese flags that made me and my mom cry was a wonderful visit with a boat you could tour outside (Colombia) very worth the visit
