A short drive off the interstate through beautiful farmland, Sequoyah's Cabin sits in a peaceful, well-kept park. Our guide gave us a good overview of Sequoyah's life and answered all our questions before giving us time to explore on our own.

This was a wonderful tour and very fascinating to learn about Sequoia and about the area around the cabin. Our host was very interesting and full of information. I highly recommend this tour as it is not very expensive you will learn so much about Sequoia and about the Cherokee People.

As we took our time driving across the US, we learned an invaluable lesson. We had many potential stops planned along I-40 as we left CA and drove toward the Carolinas. Unfortunately, none of the major tourist books or blogs had anything listed for winter visits to this area so we had nothing planned. Getting tired of driving with no planned stops, I pulled out my cell phone and began to research things that happened in the area. Because of this, we discovered the 14 Flags Museum, the Cherokee Indian (Sequoyah) cabin of the father of the Cherokee Indian's written language, how people on the freeway died because a bridge was knocked out and people were driving off the freeway into the river, and about Fort Smith. We also discovered the little town where my husband's grandparents used to live and farm near when he was 5. On this December day, there were few visitors at the facility so we were able to view the facility and learn about this man's journey. It did not take a lot of time but when we left, we were glad we had stopped. The lesson? If you just look, there are all types of things that one may learn about and savor as you travel if you research a little and get off the freeway. I know we thoroughly enjoyed these unplanned stops.

really cool place. you will learn things that you never learn any place else. the grounds are well keep and they even have picnic tables at the lower end away from the house. it was a joy to see some kids playing there enjoying the day. the employees were friendly and nice and gave me a quick 10 minute tour. its worth stopping by. but i can from fort smith historical site and once you cross into Oklahoma its a different world. the route my gps took me was very rundown. people have no pride in the homes. saw a lot of trash. i even pass a property is a rotting dead dog on it that was there for at least two weeks. even if it wasn't their dog or if they might have been renting. remove it. was another property with a half eaten dead deer on it. cops all over the place. i got gas on my way to site a cop saw my NY plates. look at me and waited for me to leave, followed me half way to the site. WOW! again this has nothing to do with anything with the Sequoyahs Cabin. when i was there at the site i felt i was in a whole different place. i am very glad i stop here but i wanted to let people know about the surrounding area.

If you're passing through the area with kids, worth the detour. Really nice and clean bathrooms, fun little activity spot for small kids, beautiful grounds to walk around. Picnic tables in the shade, too. We live locally, it is never crowded.
