REVIEWS OF Chickasaw National Recreation Area IN Oklahoma

Shawnee Presnal

Very beautiful i loved the little Niagara my son and i jumped the cliff over and over. The water was cold and refreshing especially nice for oklahoma in july.

Racheal Moreno

Clean water and fun to swim in there people aren't disrespecful and its free

Anna Ratliff

When we came to visit the river and falls were being worked on which was sad. But the park had a great nature center and fun things for the kids to see. Hiking trails and picnic areas. We just went for a day trip so I can't say what the camp grounds are like

Michael and Mechelle Sweeten

Nice and clean. Beautiful area.

Janae Jones

Love this place! Clean fresh water! I ment to go to Turner Falls but we didn't buy tickets online so we were not able to get in there so we found this place. And guess what it's free admission and swimming! it's a huge park with lots of room for big groups to swim, camp and picnic and at the same time there is plenty of river to explore via swimming and walking trails so there are lots of secluded areas as well. I will say though yhe water comes from a cold spring and it is cold! But so are most swimming creeks/rivers in the area. This is a park also has lots of brush and big shady trees, which is wonderful! However if you stray away from the crowds you are more likely to run into wild animals like snakes.

Taylor Smith

For free fun this place is great!

Ron Curtis

This review is very skewed because we chose to visit on a major holiday. The park rangers were so helpful! We locked our keys in the car and the head ranger unlocked our door. He was so friendly kind and understanding despite the fact that his park was being flooded with people. The rangers at the nature center were great too and loved answering all of our questions. These people have a wealth of knowledge that they love to share with anyone willing to listen. The springs were neat and the trails were beautifully maintained. We saw several golf carts go by and pick up trash left on trails and by the streams. What was awful was the amount of people. But we did pick a busy time to go. The trails were great, the springs and swimming holes were crowded beyond enjoyment. So enjoy this place on a non holiday.

Oh my oh my I don't know where to start! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I've heard for years I needed to go check it out and now that I finally have I can not wait to go back. We just went on the spur of the moment day trip but my next trip here will be at least a full weekend if not more. The water is a bit chilly if you're not used to it but well worth it. It is so so clear in most places and absolutely beautiful scenery throughout the park.

Sam Craig

The track around veterans lake is completely AWESOME!(:

Holly Osborne

It's so beautiful there and I even saw shelters people can rent out for parties.

Ashley Allen

Such a cool place! Lots of walking trails, springs, camping area, swimming area etc.. the kids earned their junior ranger badges here and also completed their OK patch for the national parks service here as well.

therealvegan runner

This would have been a nice trip if it wasn't for all the rude spider Rider people

Jadyn Brinkley

Beautiful! Loved camping at Rock Creek campgrounds and lounging by the creeks! Lovely and reasonably priced way to spend a weekend!

Brian Landis

Great swimming, tons of short trails to hike, and the folks at the Travertine Nature center will be happy to answer any and all of your questions. Perfect for a picnic or a weekend away. Buckhorn campground is a special treat! The rangers at Buckhorn often give talks at night during the summers, usually with a focus towards a younger audience. Fireflies abound in the trees at night. Sit outside with your lights off and watch the stars! There are picnic areas all over for day use, many with grills and nearby restrooms. Best of all the park is free to enter and use! Fees apply for boating and overnight camping. It's one of the best getaway spots in OK, so expect it to be busy during the summer months on weekends.

Jime Nez

Great place for the whole family. No cost entertainment.

Celie Rabalais

No sewer and only 30 amps. But, thepark is nice. They do have cement pads for RVs. Could use a bit more shade at the sites, but have enough to sit under.

Denny denson

Great place. One of our favorite swimming destinations and a great place to camp or get a cabin.

Jennifer Murray

The water is super cold nice on a hot day

Daniel McClure

Some highlights were the "Little Niagra Falls" and all the different and unique springs. We stayed in the Buckhorn camp area which was great and spotlessly clean. Also lake Arbuckle was beautiful. Watching sunrises and sunsets were definitely a highlight!

Liz Thompson

Love the camp sites here! They take great care and pride in their campground. Camp host Jill was great!

Laura Rodriguez

Super cold water but a beautiful place the kids has so much fun

Alicia Farber

This place is awesome. Probably less awesome during the 4th of July due to the amt of people but the springs and falls are plentiful if your patient. The parking is tough in spots so the less cars the better. Definitely need water shoes. Floats are fun to have. Intertubes are cool also since there are so many rapid areas to ride down(safely).

Michael Pelayo

$14 a night camp sites, but first come first served. Most sites are decent size with multiple swimming spots nearby. Water is cold, great for hot summer days.

Happy H

Quiet , beautiful and educational! Easy to access, many events and good places for picnic. I recommend parents bring their kids, explore this green area. These animals are rare in our city life. They require a national park ticket, but no one is checking that. Weak cell phone service coverage. And Apple Pay/google pay/Samsung pay supported in the visitor center.

Jared Jones

If you live in Oklahoma and have not been here your missing out. I challenge you to go to the cultural center and learn something about the History of this awesome state we live in.

Julie Houser

LOVED spending my weekend away from my career here. We rented an air BnB over by this place and it was really amazing. There is a lot to do for everyone in the family and it's just a short drive to food, shopping, or the casino! I will definitely be planning more trips to this part of the state

phil 8656

A truly beautiful place with a great history too. The sulphur smell is natural so don't worry about.

mike Winchell

Beautiful area! One of the nation's first National Parks and it hasn't changed since the designation did. Still wonderful.

Kristie Nutt

Had a wonderful time very beautiful area

Tom Zimmerman

This is my go to swimming spot in Oklahoma. You can't beat the crystal clear cold spring waters! Don't like the crowds and fees of Turner Falls, then this is your new swimming hole. Only 5 minutes from the city Sulphur , so easy drive to restock on supplies or snacks for the kiddos!

Ben Moody

Love visiting here. Scenic views and good hiking

Jaime .Jasso

We enjoyed our family time here... We love the outdoors, through the years we have going to many different places in texas and Oklahoma and this place is by far the best place we have been to... There is planty of shade everywhere you go. Plenty of camping sites, bathrooms, picknik tables, grills and the place is well maintained... My only reason to give it 4 stars is because I think the place needs some shelters...

Brian Samaniego

Really nice place, soooooo packed. But a must see

Jason Thomas

I love this place. Lots of wild life when you get away from the crowded areas. Little Niagara is a good place to cool down a a hot summer day.

Jessica Large

This is our favorite vacation spot. Sometimes it gets super crowded but even then you can find a spot thats not and really enjoy family time. My kids caught their first fish here too so it'll forever hold a place in my heart!

Jennifer Johnston

Easy to access right in Sulphur. Multiple hiking trail options with multiple access points. Easy to bring young kids (we've brought ages 0-7) with restrooms along the trails in case potty-trainers can't wait long enough to get back to the starting point. Don't forget to become a Jr. Ranger starting at 4 years old, with 3 different levels based on age (you earn a patch and a pin).

Mr. Molecular Biology

It is one of the best recreational area I have ever seen. It is very hot and humidity on August, however, it is worth to visit it. Also, I love the little Niagara and Bears falls. Swimming is very fun for kids and adults Especially, during summer toward sun set, the falls is very clear that you can see the bottom of water.

Arthur Rek

Easy hike. Friendly face, saw an armadillo. Lots of insects

Sheetal Krishna

It was a pretty nice park, very well maintained, especially the bathrooms! Was surprised by how clean they were. The campsites were quite cheap, and some had a great view. It's not super crowded and easily reachable from Frisco. Great as a campsite that you don't have to travel 100s of miles to reach.

Daniel Robinson

Very nice Camp Host Ranger, beautiful area and camping

Gertrude Burnside

Always a great place to go. Swimming ,picnicking and real nice trails. I try to go every day and see the.deer and buffalo

Nick Scurra

Great little lake but absolutely no directions to a ramp or swimming areas. I'm thinking this is for locals mostly.

Sapphire Belli

If you want to relive your childhood and play in the backyard again, going on adventures. Well this is the place for you. Only the yard is way, way bigger. Natural cold springs give a fun challenge for family's as well as fun. And the hiking trails really give you an idea of how complex the forest can be. Please visit if you haven't already.

nickolas fox

Very beautiful very peaceful will definitely come back

sheila pittman

Love it here....especially early morning hikes. Peace and quiet in all of nature's beauty.

C Lea

Enjoyed the well marked trail very much

Natasha Terrell

Love Sulphur Springs, it's literally one of the coolest spots in Oklahoma. The water temp is a steady 65 degrees, excellent for the overbearing heat in Oklahoma. Very nice area for day use and camping $14 for overnight. No alcohol allowed in park, the park rangers do check chest at day use areas and will give citations. Ultimately plenty of swimming holes, beautiful streams and waterfalls, moderate hiking trails, and lots of shade. Offers a very nice getaway from the city for relaxing with the family.

Hatice Kacer

It is pretty nice place for kids and everyone. There is a small river there and you can take your kids to swim. In the river there are too many fish from small to big. I have not seen anywhere clean like here. It is super clean especially it restrooms are big, clean and does not smell. You can do BBQ very easily. If you can stay after sunset, you will be able to see firefly. It is amazing because they are everywhere with their light. This place has faucets everywhere and you don’t have to think about how to clean your vegetables or fruits. Mosquitos are everywhere and we used mint oil and it worked. You need to put 5 drops of mint oil in the water and pour it your table. At least, they will not be around you so much.

Jeremy Butler

Great place to enjoy cold water on a really hot day

Michael Lee

It was ok lots of people the park ranger in the trailer seemed like he didn't want to help. It was hot he might have passed out he was about 70 years old if you want to get a camp spot wait until after 2 pm or get it online

Nancy Manuel

The season is over so it was nice and quite!

Nicole Gonzales

The water was nice and cold but crowded with people. I only put my feet in. The area we were in was small so there were lots of people. Pretty view though.

ericahhh

Idk about the weekend but during the week this is a great afternoon getaway, hangout in the river, hike with the dogs and enjoy the wildlife...we see deer and either egret or great herons every time we go. Just beautiful here

AnnaLea Grove

Awwesome. .fun... Peaceful ...Water was cold and clear. Kids loved it.

RVida Loca

The cool springs are a great respite from the heat. The creeks are beautiful and so is the surrounding area. I definitely recommend a visit to this place.

Jenn Toro

Great place. Water nice and cold on a hot day

Shayla Robertson

Really great experience with lots to do and see, plus the Indian tacos in one of the buildings were delicious! My niece had a great time feeding the catfish on the dock too, they even had food available to buy from a machine. Highly recommend for everyone to visit!

bernie magee

This place is so pretty with dozens of falls and swim areas and it is FREE to get in. You even get to drive across the little river.

Shelly Bennett

Too crowded! Couldn't even get in the water! They closed the park down one day we were there cuz it got so crowded. I grew up going camping there every summer and its nothing like it use to be.

Chris Winnett

Great place to take a rest stop or picnic for the day also a good place to camp. Lots of hiking /biking trails and good photo opportunities even just off the road. There's a good chance you will see a deer or other wildlife. There's a bison pasture with a pull out so you can stop and observe the bison or the trail goes all the way around it. There is also a nature center that is worth checking out. There is a Casino with a hotel in town close enough you can walk to the park and the chickasaw cultural center is nearby.

Shannon Drawe

Awesome area. National Park all the way around makes it very friendly for visitors and boaters.

Danita Gaut

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Well worth the money. Beautiful scenery surrounding the place. Gorgeous drive. Relaxing pool. We try to get a suite each time. They are the size of an apartment. The workers are always helpful and humorous. Love this place.

Anna Dean

I met a group of friends here for the weekend. Some brought their kayaks and another friend brought their boat, so we had a great time. There are a lot of regulations when it comes to tent camping, like the tent has to stay on the pad. We were pretty crowded and we had 4 sites at loop C. The park itself and facilities were well maintained. Parking was okay for cars, awful for vehicles with boats. They had to try and squeeze in where they could. The hiking trail we went on was well marked, once we found it. I would recommend having someone drop you off at the trail head. We visited Little Niagara which was extremely crowded. It was worth going to see and jump in for a nice refreshing swim as it is spring fed and very cold. It's no wonder people are drawn to it on a hot day.

Kim Harrison

Very Clean park. Little Niagara was beautiful, you might want to get there early to get an good spot or a grill, though.

alejandra garcia

I really recommend this place, had so much fun. Nice time

Ana McKee

Beautiful & well supervised. Variety of camping sites, able to switch sites easily as needed during periods of peak volume. Easily accessible from nearby city.

Kyle Redus

Recommend to anyone who loves camping and swimming. The water is cold no matter how hot it is outside. So much to explore one weekend isn't enough

Kimmi Wall

A great place to camp and spend time with your family away from Electronics.

Erin Duncan

We love camping here! It is always beautiful and clean. The restrooms are super clean too. It is a really beautiful area with lots of options for swimming, hiking, and boating.

Ashlie Sebert

This place was really cool. The water was cold even at the beginning of August. We enjoyed wading in the water, and sliding/ jumping off rocks. There wasn't many places that we were at that were deep enough for adults to really swim. My only regret is that I didn't wear water shoes. My feet hurt from walking on the rocks. We will definitely go again

Jorshicus 84

This place is beautiful! There was just WAY too many people. I know there is nothing one can do about the space, but the amount of people was just insane.

Helena Papacostas

Great place to hike, run, swim or barbecue with friends.

NICOLE LIU

It is very beautiful and so much animals they are cute

Debra Primavera

Great way to connect with nature. Lots of trails and beautiful scenery.

Dawn Shaw

Cool place. Lots of camping. Pretty scenery. Cold water.

Wiley Clement

It was crowded but still a lot of fun and plenty of room. We parked near the nature center and walked to little Niagara. We continued down the river to other small falls until we found a nice swimming hole for our family. Alcohol is not allowed, but food and personal pits are welcomed. Dogsarw allowed on leashes. There are two boat launches with plenty of parking. Rangers are always walking and helping to navigate the area. Plenty of tent and rv camo sites. Fishing is allowed. There is a pier as well. We spent the day out there and had a lot of fun. We hope to go back to overnight camp. The entry is free.

Patrick Craig

My family and I love this place. If you havent been there I suggest you plan a trip.

Rj Posey

Beautiful scenery really in touch with nature cool creatures in the creek great place for little children

Eric Doll

What a great spot for natural recreation. The visitor center was really awesome as well. The ladies that work there were super kind and went out of their way to accommodate my family.little Niagara falls is a great swimming spot where you can dive in from the sides in a few areas and some shallow areas for younger kids the water is cooled however.

Randy

Amazing place to go floating and hang out with the kiddos. Picturesque scenery by Arbuckle Lake makes for next level camping. See Little Niagra and soak away your worries!

Robert Yost

We had a great time at the Chickasaw National Recreation area. It was very educational and the food court area was awesome. The dance to museum and artifacts we great. Big Thumbs up

Steve Harshaw

This is a beautiful place. The springs are amazing. Great swimming and a great time lace to hike in the shade.

Anne Huynh

So beautiful. BBQ and Friend & Family Gather recommended. The spring water is cool and clean. Suitable for weekend and holiday. We had a good time here walking and eating.

Gustavo Gomez

Amazing place for camping. Bring blankets! Very rocky on the camping ground. Sleeping bag doesnt have enough cushing

Ashlin Wang

Found this place on Google maps. Great campsites. The cold spring fed creeks are amazingly refreshing during a hot summer afternoon. And the recreational area is free!

Michael Classen

Karen Tucker

Beautiful area with many hiking trails and waterfalls. Can't wait to camp here as soon as possible!

christy tidwell

This is our go to place for peace and quit and just to relax it is beautiful close to town and lobe that there is no drinking so don't have to worry about my kids matter of fact headed there this weekend to camp

Jason Schwemmer

Beautiful area. If you are looking for a place to camp away from civilization this is not the place. The park sits within the city of Sulphur. However if you are going with first time campers this is great option.

Shirley Taylor

Take your children! Experience the Native Americans lives through interaction with exhibits, dancing, & art! It's a great place for a vacation. We took our granddaughters & they thoroughly enjoyed it because there was so much to see and do. The Chickasaw Cultural Center was awesome. We hiked in one of the many parks there. Lots of fun for all ages. .

Derry Murphy

This place is awesome wether you want to hike, relax, or swim. It beautiful and clean. There are also other activities in the area to do.

Tiankhy Hinton

Great place to hang out with family and friends. My only complaint are with the cleanliness of bathrooms. Other than that it's a nice park.

Joe Trail

Wonderful place, park employee was not very hospitable and would rather folks park on the grass instead of in parking spaces. Site was completely empty except our one vehicle in a parking spot and we were asked to move to the grass along side the road. Despite that, the park is beautiful and we very much enjoy the short trip.

Gallery 1612

Tent camped with dog and had a great time, early swimming in the falls to avoid crowd

Tyler Worden

Awesome place for hiking, running, general adventuring. Beautiful scenery and cool streams and springs to get wet in.

Annette Henager

Such a lovely worshipful place unless it's crowded. Go in the early morning.

Gabriela Gonzalez

Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking natural scenery all around. Visited little Niagara Falls. Want to come back to take a dip in the natural pools. Tables and grills available to grill something up or bring lunch to enjoy.

Good Samaritan Toys Glenn Morgan, Founder

Beautiful place. Great place for a family picnic or a great hiking trip.

Brock O'Lee

It's a beautiful natural place to get away from tech and enjoy having fun with the family face to face

Valerie The Queen

Beautiful place! Super crowded but still enjoyable! My whole family enjoyed it. I plan to go back before summer ends

Janey Duffy

Super cold spring water on hot days are wondetful. The breeze and shade make cooking in the day areas amazing.

mitch wilkins

Visit during the week... You'll have the place all to yourself. Saturdays and Friday evening are by far the busiest times. It's a beautiful place, I've been coming here for 65 years.

Harmony J

This place is so beautiful. They work so hard to keep the land around them clean and beautiful for many people. This is such a great place to go to enjoy nature and disconnect from the problems and drama of the world.

Marlene Dettwiler

Very Beautiful, my second time to visit. Peaceful and lots of natural nature. Perfect place to take loads of pictures.

J.L. Fletcher

Where do I start. The campgrounds are clean and well maintained. The hiking trails are perfect. The public bathrooms are cleaned and well stocked. Park Rangers and camp hosts are very helpful. The water is clear, cool, and refreshing. Town is close if you need something. This place is absolutely incredible.

harold manning

So quite and peaceful. Natural Beauty at its best

Casfen4o7

The swimming spots are amazing, but also sometimes crowded. This is by FAR my favorite public place to swim. I don't really know what camping here is like, but it seems fun. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for somewhere to swim and don't know where to go.

Amber Fulbright

Fun area to explore any time of year. In the summers there's plenty of getting wet to do in all the waterfalls. Easy hiking trails for any age. You're likely to see some deer roaming around. There are plenty of places to picnic. Kids would have a blast here in the warmer weather. When it's hot out, there are a ton of people around, so I recommend not coming at a busy time when everyone is looking for a place to cool off.

Jason Eades

Good place to swim and it's 100% free. Clean, clear, cold water

Maggie Williams

Great spot! It was a weekend so a bit crowded but loved it! Cold refreshing water!!

Tyler Hill

Great place to take the dog on a hike. A lot of public "watering holes" for people but many places to let the dog off leash into the water to play.

RJ DigitalX

Natural springs make for a cold swim that's nice after hiking and exploring nature.

moises de la torre

easy to reach ... has the necessary services to have a good time with the family

Chris Green

I've gone to this place since I was a kid. It's a treasure in Oklahoma. I am so happy to be able to take my kids here now. They love it just as much as I did when I was thier age. There is camping here and bathrooms as well as a nature center where the kids can become a Jr Ranger. Be prepared for cold water. In fact on a hot summer day, you can sit next to the water falls and it feels almost like A/C. Surprisingly, for such a popular place it never seem over crowded, and most people tend to pick up after themselves so it's not dirty.

tricia cusack

Beautiful grounds, relaxing, great food! Fun! Great place to make memories with the family!

Alan Sigler

Family reunion here at the great nation of Chickasaw. We had over 70 people staying there. The rooms were clean, and the front desk catered to our every need. Thank you for making our Brown such a great success. Especially Rhonda. I loved her to death.

Jess Rae

There was so much to see and do. I absolutely had the greatest time. Love It

Roshini Schroeder

A peaceful, magical place where the sounds of the water delicately reminds you of the joy of being outdoors and in the meditative experience all around. I love traveling here for a break and walking around and crossing some watery paths and bridges and getting your toes wet. The shade is welcome respite from the heat and the chilly water always feels amazing while you hop from rock to rock. Enjoy the small pools and the cascading mini waterfalls and take a moment to breathe.

Kristal Strawn

We always love going to swim and walk the trails. Best way to cool off in the heat.

John O'Hanlon

Saturday was a perfect day to visit the Chickasaw nations regulation of area deer bison yellow crowned night Heron you name it it was a great day

lori hart

Beautiful. Not much rv camping but lots of tent.

Himani Patil

The natural beauty is enough for this place to be liked by visitors. The trails are fully covered by trees giving u the fresh cool breeze.

Ciara Bergman

Beautiful place, but very over packed with people. You can't park on asphalt anywhere (except marked parking spots) or you will be towed and I believe everyone (all ages) has to wear a life jacket to go in the water. To be honest with how packed it was it is in your best interest for safety to wear one. My advice, do your research.. come over prepared and go early in the morning to beat the crowds. There is a lake nearby that is beautiful if anyone needs another option!

Penny Schaefer

There are several campgrounds within the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. I stayed at The Point which has multiple areas for RVs and tents. Electric and water is available for RV sites and there are also a few RV sites without utilities. A dump station is available near the entrance. The sites are large, with picnic tables and fire rings. The sites are heavily wooded and partially secluded from your neighbor. The sites have plenty of room to back in. This is one of the few campgrounds available after October 31st.

Orvie McClain

Our second time camping here and there's so much to do and see! This is our go to place to come. Not far from home, perfect in all aspects
