REVIEWS OF Lake Sakakawea State Park IN North Dakota

Boat ramp can be congested, especially considering you're paying to use it and there are other options. It would be nice if the store was bigger and more room to pull up boats. Staff is very help and the place is well maintained.

Jim Comings

This is in the top ten state parks (right at the top) we have visited these past two years on the road, and not just the beauty, but the amenities and the wonderful staff.

Brenda Kuhn

We where dissapointed,as before we came up here it was neat and clean. Now we find there was no hot water to shower Sunday. In one of the bathrooms we went to was not cleaned all weekend long. It was disguesting

Mike Hampton

Very peaceful and beautiful too. This is one of the nicest state parks in the west I've seen. Even if you don't get out on the lake it's a great place to hang out and watch the world go by.

tonya terry

It was awesome

Julian Reyna

Awesome place to camp. Modern or primitive.

Bob Aldous

Perfect campground for all ages. Neat, tidy beach, playground and lots and lots of room for kite flying, games etc. The staff is very friendly and because of this we are returning this year. A long drive from Ontario, Canada it is worth it.

Mike & Valerie - TechnoGypsies

This campground has first-come first-served sites and offers both electric/water hookups for $25 per night and non-hookup sites for $17 per night. Every site has a picnic table and a fire ring. This campground is pet-friendly. The pads in the non-hookup loop (we were in Fishing Point) are grassy and not entirely level, but easily workable with a few blocks. The non-hookup loops and dump station area have potable water and threaded faucets. The water itself tasted a little funky during our stay, but it wasn't bad. The on-premises dump station is very large and surprisingly clean with four lanes for your dumping pleasure. Be warned if you stay here on a holiday weekend and need to dump-leave early or be prepared to wait. During our stay the grounds were clean and well maintained. The grass was cut and the roads were free of major pot holes. The rangers came by every few hours to make sure everything was okay. Unfortunately, they didn't seem intent on enforcing the rules, as a quite a few of them drove by our neighbors who had all three of their dogs (and all four of their toddlers) off-leash and mostly unsupervised for the entire weekend. We had excellent cell and data reception with 4 solid bars of Verizon LTE and 5 bars of Verizon 3G. We were able to stream videos and run updates the entire time we were there and had no interruption in service. We often avoid state parks because they sometimes charge extra fees in addition to their camping fees. This place is no exception. Non-hookup sites are listed at $17, but you are also charged an additional $5 day-use pass per vehicle. But for a lakeside campground with amenities, the total nightly cost is still very reasonable. We'd easily stay there again the next time we are in the area.

Nice place to stay

Jonathan Werner

The campground has improved with new bathrooms but I wish there were more trees. However, the marina, since being operated by game and fish, has greatly improved. There is a far greater variety of local snacks such as ice cream, cookies, dots pretzels, and pizza.

Beautiful campground and nice friendly staff. They do need to do something about their garbage situation though. No dumpsters or garbage cans anywhere except at dumping station which is quite a distance from campground.

Beautiful park. Well maintained. RV park is no cell but they need sewers. The comfort station has three women's stalls and two showers. Good hot water, low water pressure.

Mikaylah Belanger

Beautiful lake goes on for miles.

Tom Rogers

This was a pleasant surprise on our cross Canada/US trip. We had a lakeside spot that felt like picturesque Prince Edward Island with the sun and red cliffs. Very friendly staff.

Cora Strand

Nice!

Mary Stahura

We had a great time and the only reason I give it 3 stars is for the outdated bathrooms. Lewis and Clark bathrooms are way nicer. We tented in the primitive area; the RV area seemed too small and tight in most areas. Would we come back, yeah... the fishing is great!

Amy Anton

Just beautiful and so much to do!

Eric Dittus

Has both electric and water hookups. And the scenery has us coming back every year. Beautiful place to camp!

Willy Froese

Loved the park and campground. Saw lots of birds and enjoyed the area. No shade, but they have planted lots of small trees. In 20 years ...

The lake is beautiful. Child friendly. Pet friendly. Good fishing. It is not a wilderness camping experience. You are sleeping outside or just near campers. Still great facilities.

Well maintained park with easy access to the water; Nicely laid out camper pads with reasonably sized spots. Excellent for families or even your solo campers alike. Seeing wildlife is a fairly common occurrence as well.

Marcy Stiefel

The very nice swim beach with lots of sand.

deszirae payne

Just went sailing, it's a beautiful lake.

Guido Salducci

The swim beach is great. Very nice and lots of things to explore. Garrison dam, The fish hatchery etc.

Tina Gannon

Glenda Wolverton

Beautiful park with friendly staff. Modern camping was clean and comfortable. Bathroom/shower room is clean and private. Pet, kid, and senior friendly. Primitive camping was comfortable in many ways but the 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. generators off rule is ridiculous in summer heat. Otherwise, we love this park but will make reservations so we can stay in modern camping when we're here in summer.

Delaney Smith

Website says they have kayak rentals. Drove an hour there. No kayak rentals, and staff said they haven’t had them since 2 summers ago... should probably update your website then.

beth cumings

rj moreno-adam

Favorite campground and have been coming here for years with my family. Love the super friendly staff and the fact the camp sites are spread out. Love to get out in the evenings to catch the wild life. The park and the comfort stations are very well taken care of. If you like to hike there are plenty of groomed trails to get out on. Best of all, mother nature creates some beautiful picture taking opportunities!

One of the most beautiful areas to visit and camp in North Dakota. Mid way between. Bismarck and Minot, this is a great place for friends and family to get away from the craziness of daily life and reconnect with nature. There are first come first serve areas for trailers as well as reserved sites, and most have electric and water with primitive sites as well. Great place to view rje stars at night.

Not much of a park per say... mainly a place to camp in RVs ... park rangers manage the place and you must pay for passes to enter... the views of the lake were nice though in the area and other places nearby.
