REVIEWS OF Wright Brothers National Memorial IN North Carolina

Casey Dunleavy

Truly incredible national treasure! Park ranger led us on a great and informative tour of where the Wright brothers had set up their camp and where the famous flight took place. Beautifully maintained property and a great educational day for the entire family. Nice gift shop as well!

Seth Crumpton

This is a wonderful memorial to the Wright Brothers as well as the others who were true pioneers in aviation. These guys had some serious guts to do what they did all without any real safety measures we have today. The museum is very informational and you can see a replica of one of the prototypes the Wright brothers used. Make sure you have good shoes to walk in to make it to the large memorial on the dune. As you walk outside you will also get to see a replica hangar that the Wright Brothers stayed in. Great place to go on a nice sunny day. Would not recommend going if rainy. Cost is $10 per person.

Rob Macdonald

This is a great national memorial and a must see for the family. You will spend a couple of hours here. Bring you walking shoes, water and good weather. Part of the experience is outdoor, to see where the first flight happened and get a perspective on the distances. The indoor section has a great easy to understand history, with cool facts and exhibits. They have a replica flyer here (original is in the Smithsonian Space and Science museum in Washington, DC). They do have some of the original fabric on display from the flyer. The outdoor section also has the buildings where the brothers worked and slept. The monument erected by the state of North Carolina. They also have a life size bronze statue of the picture of the first flight. This gave you a perspective of the action on that day. The National Park Pass is accepted for entry. There is a ton of parking. Soak up the history!

Kenneth Wacasey

This was a great stop on our OBX vacation. $10 for anyone 16 and over in the car for the day. A large air conditioned museum area along with a full size replica of the original plane. There were even some original parts from the plane on display. Outside was a hangar, recreated living/workshop area and some large stone markers showing initial flight distances. There is a large memorial that you can drive around and hike up to (if you are so inclined). On the backside was a replica of the plane that looked like you could interact with (we did not stop but saw others on the way by). Definitely stop by and see one of the most important historical sites in aviation history.

Thomas Steinbrunner

One of the best museums I've ever visited. Built for a single purpose, and it covers the Wright Brothers and their flights wonderfully!

Brian Tetrault

What a cool spot! Was staying at a campground in Rodanthe but had to make the trip up to hear to get our passport book stamped! Got in for ‘free’ with our annual National Parks pass (purchased at Shenandoah last Summer). Oozing with history of the first flight, this amazingly well put together National Monument is a must-stop for anyone appreciative of this country’s great aviation history. We went early May and it seemed the visitor center was very newly redone—and quite well I might add. Ample parking for all. Hang on to your hats, can get windy in the hill!

Joseph P. Matthews

It's quite a hike to the top of the monument hill, so bring some water. The museum is small, but is filled with cool exhibits. The flight path is fun to walk and it's cool to see where the world was changed forever.

Roberta Perry

Spectacular piece of history! I can't wait to return.

Bruce Provencher

A nice uplifting place to visit. Let's you see what dreams, hard work, and motivation can accomplish.

Ian Phillipps

Awesome park. Lots of great knowledge here. Wish we had more time to see everything

steven palafox

A nice historical site. Wasn't thrilled about the entry fee but it's understandable. The indoor exhibit can get crowded and you may get stuck behind some slow readers while going through the timeline of aviation. Also the exhibit is laid out from right to left which makes the layout a little confusing. It is inspiring to see what odds the Wright brothers faced.

Liza Schroder

Totally enjoyed everything about this visit. The history and displays are inspiring. Wow 60 years from first flight to being on the moon. What a short time span for such grand accomplishments! The admission is $10 a person. If you have the senior national park lifetime pass it is free.

Jean McHugh

Wonderful place to visit. Lots of walking outside, recommend going on a cooler day if you want to explore the outside.

Raina Quelle

I loved how the park rangers brought the stories of the struggles of early space flight to life. It is a very simple monument with markers along milestones. Small children might enjoy running on jockey ridge more than viewing the mock up of the first powered plane flight, but any space enthusiast would be amazed at their persevere and attention to details...and how quickly air flight progressed! With an hour for the ranger led tour, and another for reading the lives of the brothers, allow yourself 2 to 3 hours.

Raynard Griffin

Make plenty of time to enjoy the site. There are some interesting things that one may not have heard about. The history and the speed of the progress is astounding.

Ashley Freeland

It was a great place. $10 per adult. You get to see where they took off from and the points they landed. It also has a memorial on the hill.

Andrea M.

Very informative museum...$10 state park fee to enter... don't miss the outdoor plane tucked away behind the memorial on the hill.

Patrick Medley

Awesome time! Really cool monument to see and a lot of history. After visiting the history museum in Raleigh and then checking out the available resources at the park, you can really gain a full appreciation for the history that unfolded on these hallowed grounds. It was $10 per adult but you could come back and visit at any time for the next 7 days which allows for repeat visits off of the same ticket! All-in-all I would highly recommend this as a destination to anyone visiting the Outer Banks... Bring Water!

Damon Hearne

What a special feeling to stand on the spot where the wright brothers first took to the air. The interpretive center is well done, Sony stuff in the gift shop and nice facility overall. Extra bonus that the architecture of the visitors center is historic!

Bill Blinn

Good experience and awesome views the top of the sand dunes. I really liked that they have the distances of the flights marked out. Lot of walking

jj husband

Very informative. Very cool to see a replica of the first airplane it was a longish walk up the kill devil hill to see the monument so if your handicapped. Or hard to walk go drive to the side of the monument to the parkinglot and walk from their. But all together i thought it was fun to learn about and see

Bradley Rahmoeller

Take a walk thru history and see where an idea took flight, literally. Stop by the museum to get a glimpse of the plane and learn how flight was achieved. A 10 minute stroll, will take you up to a monument for a fantastic view of the surrounding area. Shade is hard to find but there are Plenty of bathrooms in this national park.

David Clore

Take your time here and expect to do some walking. Great memorial dedicated to Wilbur and Orville Wright’s time discovering flight. Check out the visitors center, the memorial, or even try your hand at flying a kite. I would suggest going in the morning before it gets too hot outside. Once you pay to enter your pass is good for 7 days. There is a replica of one of their airplanes and park rangers give talks on a regular schedule.

Kettering

A must visit while in the Outer Banks! The visitor center recently reopened after an extensive remodel. They kept the exterior of the building in it's original style and did a great job on the inside, displaying a replica of the Brother's first successfully flown plane. The monument is amazing and provides excellent views from the top. There is also a path with markers that show the Bother's flight milestones. Make sure to visit the outdoor replica plane that you can climb onto. There is a public airport on the grounds where you can watch small aircraft arrive and depart (they can park here for free short term).

Charles Fox

Excellent park and museum dedicated to the Wright brothers first powered flights. The stones marking out the flights provide a powerful perspective of the event. The museum provides a detailed perspective on the Wrights and their efforts and accomplishments.

Don Ward

Great place if you're interested in aviation...great interpretive job on the Wright Brothers....

Ashley Marlowe

Beautiful park that you're able to bring dogs to. Expect to do some serious walking if you visit...the monument is up a very steep ramp. Stick to the sidewalks if possible -- there are burrs in the grass.

Erik Francisco Benimeli

Great people, very friendly locals. The local bbq is unheard of amazing!

Sasha Novozhilov

Fascinating, detailed displays presenting that part of our history. Shows and explains details about all aspects of the first flyer. You can actually stand on the spot where the first flight took place!

Jesse Mignogna

A must see while visiting the Outer Banks. The small entrance fee is more than worth it. From the monument you can see both the ocean and sound. In the building you can learn about the Wright Brothers and listen to the ranger recant history.

noizebatch nine

- cool place if you're into history - expect to do a bit of walking - has a some cool info - has a nice view - I'd recommend this place

Zachary Johnson

It was awesome, the monument is even grander in person than I imagined. I love the park, and watching the planes circle the monument and lad is amazing. If you are a pilot it is a must see. Also if you park by where the pilots land there planes you can walk into the park without paying that expensive parking.

Kindal McAuliffe

This was such a fun experience for our family. I would say it is a must do. Neat museum and model airplane. Boys got to become junior Rangers by participating in fun activities. It was do fun and informative.

k wads

So interesting. Sound glad we got to get this history at this inspiring place. Seeing it makes you appreciate the sacrifices these brothers made for their dream. I was there many years ago so I was bringing others with me. I was disappointed to not see new exhibits. It’s the same. That’s why only 3 stars. We did have an excellent ranger give us the walking tour. She was great.

Johnathan Vaughan

So much history in the OBX! It was amazing to see where Orville and Wilbur Wright took their glider on the first manned flights to prove concepts that would turn into "first in flight" that gave birth to everything from aerodynamics to jets to space flight. It is hot during the summer and not much shade so stay hydrated and wear your walking shoes!

Fred Pineau

Excellent historic retelling of the events and personal stories leading up to the first flight. Both the museum and the grounds are well kept.

Steve Hartig

Very nice visit. Between the visitor center and a park service ranger who gave a talk you could get a good feel for the Wright Brothers. The plan in the visitor center is a replica but if they didn’t tell you it probably would pass inspection. We are off season and there was still a big crowd so I suspect it is very crowded during summer.

Yeshanth Jayakumar

Love what they did to the visitor center. This place and the history that it possesses deserved a very well designed visitor center which speaks volumes of history in a easily consumable manner. Do take the guided tour if you have a chance. You will come across quite enthusiastic and highly energetic guides.

Finn

I always love coming here with my friends and family. I come every year and its fabulous.

Leilani Palmer

Awesome Park! Very inspiring and you get to see the recreated camp site and the flight path. The monument is a little hike, but worth the effort. They have a replica of the plane used in the successful flight experiments.

West View park oldies show danceland

What an interesting piece of history. A must see part of history when you're on the outer banks

Emma Tucker

Lots of good information here about the Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur, and all the time and effort that went into planning and building their gliders and the first successful plane. They have a full scale replica of the plane, the original being on display in Washington DC. The have stone monuments that show how long and far the four initial attempts at flight were, and you can walk it and see how amazing those moments must have been. There’s also the monument, that’s up a very steep hill so wear walking shoes and bring water. They also have a metal re-enactment of the first flight, complete with a metal replica of the plane that you can touch, or let your kids explore.

Kim Arrants

Love this place. Great history of the first flight. They have also added a play structure that is a replica of the Wright Brother's first glider. You are able to climb around on it.

Adonnis Goldstein

This is a nice place to visit. I've been there every time I've gone to the outer banks. Remember it is a national monument so the Park Service charges you to get in. People go there a lot to fly kites and the have kite flying contests. It's a lot of walking which to me is enjoyable. If you walk off the path, you can and will walk on prickly cactus, so be careful. This is where the Wright Brothers first flow their plane. It is a part of America's history.

David Decker

Flight is one of the crowning achievements of the 1900's. Amazing to see where it all began. This museum and national historic site is a must for all!

Michael Davis

41st Annual Wright Brothers Kite Festival was a great experience. It was my first time attending, but won't be my last. The Park Service puts on informative programs and the kiting community does a great job with their kite demonstrations. All around great day to "go fly a kite".

Luke White

The exhibits were interesting and the service the park rangers provided was great. The tickets are reasonably priced. The views from the top of the memorial are breathtaking. The place is very well maintained and makes for a fun afternoon

Kilby Ritter

The birth of avation!! A fantastic trip through the history of American Flight. Even if one is not into aviation, one must simply go to be in awe of how man's flight began. Stand in the spot where the first plane took off and flew...inspiring. Wright Brothers Memorial is run by the National Park Service so one knows it's clean, informative and well run. Pay a small entrance fee and enjoy. I believe the entrance fee is good for three days.

Alice Schmitz

Very interesting ... much of the history came alive with the Park Ranger's narrative. Educational exhibits with clear explanations.

Tracey O.

A great look back on a wonderful piece of American history and a fantastic story about those who never give up on their dreams. Self guided and or group tours at $10 for adults to enter the park. Paid receipt good for 7 days to return.

Mike Reynolds

A huge wealth of information very well kept both inside and out.

Bill Bullock

Amazing part of human history. Great place for Kids as well, plenty of open area to run and play. The Junior Aviation area is cool as well. Kids can make paper airplanes and fly them where the Wright Bros took flight.

Ashton Walters

Truly an inspiring site! If you visit the OBX you must stop and see this beautiful park. The building is gorgeous and a site all by itself! It's amazing seeing the flight markers and the work that went into flight

Daniel Morris

Free kites! Kids can watch airplanes take off and land on the nearby airstrip. Pretty cool. $10 per adult.

MARI Lopez

Dear to my heart ! Such a nice little hike and I love to go back every year with my family the museum is great and is not very expensive so much to see and learn great for the kids

chris schmied

It's a neat, tidy, and well kept park. It's great for walking around and has a full scale model inside a small museum. There are a couple of items from the original plane, as well as markers from the four flights. There is an interactive art sculpture of the moment of flight. You can climb on the plane because it's metal. Warning, stay on the path.

Vicleese S.

The Ranger Tour made this worth every minute. She did a fantastic job.

John Hannan

This is a beautiful memorial. Very steep path to get to the top. The memorial has an enclosure not open to the public. It is impressive up close. And up top there is a nice view of the surrounding area.

John Couture

It was fun! You get to know both men and the rest of their family, whom I knew absolutely nothing about! I didn't even know there were other siblings. I enjoyed walking the grounds and seeing the evolution of flight technology and the big breakthrough that enabled Orville and Wilbur to be successful. The monument was a bit disappointing as it was closed. But we walked up to it and around it. If you drive around you'll find a nice little park to climb on a replica of the aircraft and have some family fun.

Alan Stinar

I cannot properly explain our experience. To stand on the very path of the first powered flights and watch my children fly a kite....I was beside myself. The look in their eyes as they tried to comprehend how flight seemed impossible once upon a time, I'm glad I had a camera. Be sure to visit the backside of the large memorial and get a picture with a recreation of the 1903 photograph. You can even lie down next to Orville on the plane.

Marc Gmuca

This is a great place to show off both North Carolina’s history as well as the Wright Brothers contribution to aviation. The tours are mostly self guided however there are park rangers to help with any questions. Definitely worth the stop!

Eoghan Brophy

Wonderful museum dedicated to the advent of powered human flight. Lots of great exhibitions, great tour guides and a perfect replica of the first flying machine. It rather proves that health and safety regulations limit human progress. Dare to imagine, live to dream, and remember that the clouds are never as far away as you might think. It's the stars you really want to go for

Dennis Nardi

There's a small museum with good information about the Wright brothers and early aviation. However, there's not much else there. Besides the museum and gift shop, you can walk around the entire ground in ~20-30 minutes, where most of it is open spaces. They also charge $10 per person for entry.

Muriel Longstaff Siddoway

This was an INSPIRATION. Not gonna lie, this was one of my favorite spots in the outer banks. I didn’t expect it but visiting the monument and then going to the visitors center you realize how much tenacity, courage, and hard work the Wright brothers put in to learn how to fly. So many prototypes. They created their own wind tunnel to collect data. It is truly an inspiring story, and although they broke records of flight time beforehand... they wouldn’t give up until they figured out how to fly for miles. So grateful I came here!!

mayukh chatterji

You get to see the world's oldest runway, the original propeller of the first plane, a replica of the first plane and you get to learn oodles about the Weight brothers and their journey. It's one of the better visitor centres/museums for anything out there!

Kristina Weiss

The Wright Brothers National Memorial is an absolute must if you're passing through the area. Admission is $10 to get in which is fairly reasonable. This includes access to the museum, monument and outside displays. All in all will take about an hour to walk the entire thing if you stop and take pictures and visit the museum. Great set up with a lot of great information. Take the time to visit.

Brittany Brink

Well maintained park, but quite pricey for a family to go especially for the amount of stuff there (or lack of... mostly walking). It is $10 a person... perhaps $10 a car would be more family friendly?

Barbeta Terry

Went there with a church group. We visited the museum and walked up to the memorial. The kids and adults enjoyed learning the history of the Wright Brothers.

Jeff Rutherford

Holy cow this place is amazing! The history is incredible and the visitors center had SO MUCH INFORMATION! I had so much fun with my kids learning about the brothers and the history of human flight! Also seeing how the landscape has changed was probably the most interesting thing about this place! The whole area really is pretty amazing. The junior ranger program they have is really good too. It makes you go to many different areas in the park, and as a parent i liked that alot.

Mike P

Great. Grounds are well maintained, signage and displays are informative and rangers are knowledgeable. Well worth the price of admission.

CheTarra

Great place for a great bit of history. If you bring along a lunch there are shaded areas with picnic tables or nice benches under a tree to sit and eat which is nice. Its dog friendly. Leashed dogs are allowed on the grounds but not inside buildings unless they are service animals. There are even doggy water fountains and poop bag stations. All of the monuments to the brothers are accessible by wheelchair which very thoughtful. There are several places for people to potty. Overall, a nice place to stop on a long car ride.

a traveling Mom

Enjoyed climbing the dune and seeing the rock that marked their first landing spot. Brings history alive! Enjoyed taking pics with the plane and statues. The museum was interesting and informative.

Jerry Merririfield

Great place to visit. They have free educational lectures.

Tim Mihal

A great place to visit when in Kitty Hawk. You can walk around and experience what it must have been like in 1903 for man's first flight. This park is spacious and historic. You can just visit the visitor center or walk around to see the sights. Make sure you climb the sand dune to see the Wright Brothers Memorial. The view from atop is awesome! Well worth the $10 per person entry fee.

Tristian Barragan

Definitely a step into the past. Great way to memorialize the Wright Brothers.

Nilsa Ambert

This place is big! Admission is $10.00 per person. You can drive to monuments. One of them you have to walk up a huge hill not easily accessible. Visitors center is very nicely set up like a mini museum. Worth the price of admission.

Gary Tucek

This is a beautiful National Park. It has a small, but very nicely done museum with life size replicas of the Wright brothers plane. Enjoy.

Alex Fernandez

There is quite a bit of history here. They have a production version of the original plane inside of the visitors center so make sure to check that out. On the loop is a monumeny of the original airplane and you are allowed to clb onto it and take pictures. Definitely walk up the hill to the memorial. The view is fantastic. It's $10 a person. If you plan to visit other national park paid places consider picking up the annual pass to support the parka and maybe save some money.

michael hluchy

Nice tribute to the Wright brothers. There is a cool gym set that looks like there airplane. The kids can play on and take pictures.

Roman Iospa

Great spot to visit

Mike Vecc

Worth visiting at least once. This site is an important place in our history and in aviation history. Be prepared to walk. The $10/person fee is steep especially for just looking at a memorial.

Karen Bedsaul

New visitors center. Good explanations of methods needed to fly. Best display for small children is behind behind the monument. A life sized metal replica is where kids can climb and play. Life size statues are there too. Skinny Wilbur and Orville.

GalaxyBunny87 YT

So much more interesting than I thought it would be!!! Fascinating actually!!! The museum is small but packed with information! Definitely wear walking shoes and bring water for the outdoor flight path experience and the hike up to the monument! Worth the hike though! The view is amazing! A really great day!!!

Jeff Anderson

Great visitor center with lots of cool info. They have pieces of the original flyer that went to the moon and back. Well maintained monument and you can walk the path of the original flights.

L Miller

Very informative museum. Love how the original engine from the plane survived and the pieces that were gone are represented by plastic pieces

Arelis Alvarez Aquino

You will not regret the visit! Excellent for kids and adults.

Michal Schmitt

The memorial is a fantastic homage to the first steps in flight. The visitor center does a wonderful job telling the Wright brothers story concluded with a replica of their plane. Stepping outside you get a sense of scale seeing the hill topped with a magnificent memorial.

Alan Brokos

Beautiful memorial to the birth of aviation. A bucket list item for me! I learned a great deal at both the memorial and the Wright Brothers museum.

Brent Suddreth

Had been here in my youth but I got a whole lot more out of my visit this time. The visitors center has a nice shop with tshirts, jackets, coasters, kites, and even Wright flyer models that can be built. The ONLY negative was the $10 per person entry fee. This seems steep for those that can't afford it and taking into account we pay Federal taxes.

Joseph Grigg

The memorial is well preserved, the visitor center has a lot of the history of the Wright brothers and their motivations for developing a powered aircraft. It's very interesting to see how they got powered flight started! The memorial grounds is a great place to walk. The tickets last for 7 days to get in. Bathrooms are clean, staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Most of the grounds are outdoors, they do have the visitor center and a small museum structure that are indoors. Everything is wheelchair accessible but the hill up to the kill devil hill memorial is very steep.

Jerry Nicklaus

We had an awesome time at the National Monument. I am a big fan of flying and have spent thousands of hours in the air. As I try to share my interests with my grand children, I very much appreciate the opportunity to take them to places that educate us all on the history of flying. My grandaughter was very impressed and is now genuinely interested in learning more. Thanks so much to our guide for her very organized and interesting presentation. I am so sorry I didn't get her name. Loved it from start to finish.

Jitka Kacerova

Museum is very informative, they have glider replica and lots of history facts about flying in general. Memorial itself is impressive on the hill, we had fun making photos by the first flight statue! Very nice place where you can stop for a while.

Blank

After being at the visitor center before it was updated and after one can appreciate a day the room and building flows. Once entering the building visitors go around a big room that gives the information. Of the Wright brothers flight. Then you go into a larger room with a model of the first plane. The room it self is very nice to just sit in and think if one prefers. As to the outside, there is a walk family's or individuals can take in order to see the distance taken by the flight tests. Then there is the walk up to the monument. To go to the monument there is a flat incline for those who are handicapped. The view is wonderfully especially on a nice day so keep this in mind. This is a great think to do for a small morning or afternoon activity but should be avoided in the middle of the day with high heat.

Danielle Clark

This is a great place to visit. It is rich with history and gives a great picture of what it was like for the Wright Brothers. It was super crowded the day we were there though.

Chris Johnson

Amazing to realize human flight only happened less than 117years again. Very humbling and amazing that Super famous people stood in my place to n the same amazement

Jean Brecke

Much improved from our last visit with the addition of the visitor center. More to see, great explanations of how the Wright brothers' dream of flight evolved from infancy to fruition.

Shelby Hawkins

We enjoyed so much...love the history. Saw replica of first plane

sandeep reddy

Nothing much to watch but the guide who briefed about the history of how the Wright Brothers achieved their first success flight made the time spent valuable. The view from the hill top was great. Tip: Take your car to the parking below the hill to reduce the walking distance ;)

Shrawani Bose

Just WOW. An inspiring place and such a nice view from the hill top. You can absorb all the positive energy. My family had a great time. And the gift store has some cool stuff. Have fun, definitely check it out if you are at the Outer Banks (OBX).

David Sobie

This was such an interesting place to visit! To think that the first successful flight took place here! We came and visited the Wright Brothers National Park with our whole family, it is definitely something we will never forget. The park is very well maintained and while we were visiting was going though repairs. The hike up the hill was very fun and I loved the life size models of the planes!

Nancy Deitrick

Beautiful facility. If you have a senior national park pass, you get in free. Take the tour with the park ranger. Very knowledgeable.

Justin P

Wright Brothers National Memorial commemorates the birth of aviation. Wilbur and Orville came to Kitty Hawk in the early 20th century to complete their experiments in powered flight, taking advantage of the Outer Banks' steady winds and isolation at the time. The visitor center has a nice museum showcasing the brothers' ingenuity and perseverance. A 60 foot monument is on the top of Kill Devil Hill. And the flight line shows how far those first few successful flights made it. Overall, a great place to learn about the beginnings of human flight.

Mark Braithwaite

Monument is amazing. Nice place to finish a run. Grounds are great. Visit the museum.

David Evanoff

Very informative and lovely park with an awesome Monument. Plus the best selfie spot ever

Elaine Nelson

Wonderful for anyone! Very educational, and interesting. Loved learning about their personal lives, and the lesser known people behind the scenes. Very helpful and kind staff.

Mike Westover

Awesome!! If you are a history nut or just curious about the Wright brothers, this is the place to go. Great views from the top of Kill Devil Hill!!

Carol Hess

The events that unfolded here were astounding. Especially when the fact man was on the moon 66 years later proves the tenacity of American ingenuity.

Nanaiah Pattada

Historical as it is, the only concern is the strict adherence for timing. We missed entering the museum by 5 minutes, and the caretakers would not budge. Having travelled 14000 kilometers to see such an historic and epic event in History, I think the caretakers can be a bit more considerate. We drove all the way from Richmond after having traversed the Globe from Bangalore in India to NC. What a shame

Marc-André Duhaime

Nice site, what's already exposed is interesting but additional investments are needed. So much have been done lately...

Eric Wiedenhoft

An excellent place to truly experience the birth of flight. Enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of kill devil hills from the memorial.

Tammy Odom

Good information, friendly staff. Tip...Don't take dog during hot months. Limited shade and paths are all hot cement. If it wasn't so hot, our dog would have had a great time though.

Jordan Harris

Great place lots of really great photo opportunities and really great information about the first flight! Awesome place! I’d recommend coming early or on a cool day if you’re walking up Big Kill Devil !

Courtney Fitzpatrick

$10 is maybe a little steep for admission, but if it all goes to running the place, then I'm cool with that. Lots of people milling about. Great museum, and shop. The monument itself is pretty neat.

Maranda Hess

Beautiful site, hard to navigate. Not clear where cars can park or where you should walk. It's a strenous walk up to the memorial, very steep. Very pretty view from the top. Pass is good for 10 days. Not sure why you would go back, one time is good.

Rachel Greer

This was a fun way to spend a few hours on our OBX trip. They just revamped the visitors center within the past year. Inside there was fun memorabilia about the brothers. If you get there at certain times a tour guide will take you on a 45 minute tour/ explanation of the grounds. Our guide was very knowledgeable about their time in Kitty Hawk and was really fun to listen to. Outside you can walk and see the boulders marking their flight attempts, the hanger, and the memorial at the ro of the hill. You can drive over closer to the monument if you don't want to walk the whole way (it's a long trek). The climb was steep but the view up top is worth it. The back also has a little area where you can picnic and a replica of a biplane you can get in for cute photo opportunities. With your ticket you can visit again for free for 7 days so if you decide you want to do part one day and part another day you can, especially if the weather doesn't cooperate.

Anthony Prete

Very neat historical site with great walking paths and information posted around. Good for a couple hours when visiting kitty hawk

Dakky Arthur

The museum presented plenty of historical and interesting information that my father and I enjoyed. The models and actual artifacts were very intriguing and I recommend this to any who enjoy history, aviation, or mechanics. The monument on the hill was strikingly large and the view from up there was beautiful; it was well worth the trek up the path. You could especially see the distance between the four first flights from the monument, which was great.

Jack Head

A must see on the Outer Banks. Make sure to where good shoes as you can walk a lot, but you can drive out to memorial as well. Stay on the sidewalks, the sand spurs are everywhere, and the staff will remind you of this as well. They just remodeled the main building and did a fantastic job. Don't forget to bring a kite as the wind is always blowing.

Jessica S

Enjoyed our visit here! You can see the initial flight distances, replica of the first flight, and learn interesting facts in the visitors center. The memorial was cool to see and there is a great view from the hill. There is a bit of walking to see everything and was a bit cool with the breeze. Overall, it was a fun experience!

Linda Rowan

Really loved this museum. I learned so very much. Nice indoor area laden with displays and information. Nice outdoor area with great visuals of Wright brothers camp, flight area, monument, and sculptures. Of particular note are the provocative questions as part of the informational displays and the encouraging words to impel everyone to be curious. Also noteworthy was the 1/2 hour talk given by park ranger Sarah.

A wonderful museum. It doesn't take a ton of time to explore. There are indoor and outdoor exhibits. The museum gives a decent history of the Wright Brothers and their accomplishments. The souvenir shop is nice and was busy when I was there. They have a variety of items to choose from. I recommend going to the top of the hill by the monument and checking out the view. It is beautiful.

Ed Stancik

Much better than expected. The exhibits were well done and informative. They included a nice mix of replicas and authentic components from that historic moment.

Meg Malone

Take some water with you if you decide to hike from there up to the monument at the top of the hill — it’s a steep hike and there is no shade. At the bottom of the hill, there’s also a small museum that contains a life-size replica of the brother’s most-successful plane and several displays about the brothers and the history of modern aviation. All in all, what makes this place exciting is its history, not so much the current facilities (nor the price tag of $10/person).

It was amazing and the experience was great and it taught you alot about the first flight p.s. if you are going to hike on top of the hill you should wear tennis shoes

James Stewart Jr

If in OBX, gotta check it out. The visitor center and the actual monument are several hundred yards apart, a long way, especially in heat of summer. Park by visitor center, when done there, then drive to monument, parking all around the base of it. From there you exit.

Edward Ash

Very interesting! Love the history. Lots of walking if you want to see the monument and the flight path. And we're from Ohio so it's cool to see the connection.

Traci Parks

We had a great time at this museum. Every body is friendly and helpful. It has some great info for a small museum.

Joe Watson

Always amazing to see what hard working intelligent and persistent Ohioans can accomplish when they put their minds to it. Great visitor center and super exhibits. Would recommend to anyone from any age.

Robert Campbell

Really cool small museum and grounds. Not an all day trip but a cool place to checkout in the Outer Banks for sure.

Mark Tremel

Airborne. The windy flats of Kitty Hawk. Two brothers with a mechanical interest and a passion for flight. This is a wonderful National Memorial. From the field where the stones mark the first flight distances, to the displays, to the hilltop monument, it is all just breathtaking. There is an especially nice life size statue of the first plane, the brothers and the moment that they took off. It really gives a sense of scale and how it must have all felt. Don't short change yourself folks, linger here.

Excellent exhibit, lots of great info and very inspirational. Give yourself time to go through it all. It was really cool to know you were standing where it all happened. Very windy there so not surprising that they choose that spot. Leave the hats and visors at home. And make sure you check out the bronze monument commemorating the fist flight. So cool!

Patty Cox

love the history of this place and the wright brothers. views are fabulous

Adam Getchell

Great experience to learn about the birth of flight. Also notice the visitor center buildings classic architecture. It's on the national historic registry.

Jayson Metcalf

Really nice historical place to learn the history of how flight began! The big stone memorial gives you plenty of walking, so I would recommend you ride your car out to the stone memorial!

Mary Farwell

Beautiful renovation of historic visitor center. Kites for loan are really good!

Cat Kirchner

Historic Site run by the National Parks Dept. There are things for the whole family to see and do throughout the park. This kept anyone area from feeling crowded during our visit. Staffed by insightful park rangers. Bathroom facilities were clean and stocked.

Linda McLane

Great day! Educational and great exercise. Best part the replica of the plane and statues to take pictures!

I'm not really into this sorta thing, went for my brother, but there are some pretty views and good walking trails

LaKisha Lefever

Great place to learn about the Wright brothers. If you can't climb a steep hill, you can still go to the visitor's center and learn just as much. I would recommend going around the loop and going up the hill first then make your way around the loop and see the plane then the visitor's center last. Less people that way.

Mary English

That is a very good place for kids to go and learn about history that was a great experience hope to go again

Dôrothy Schmidt

Even though I've lived here 9 years, this was my first visit to the Wright Brothers Memorial. I loved it! Loved being able to learn about their family life, and the extreme amount of work that went into their endeavors. WELL worth the trip! Wear comfy shoes if you go, the hike to the top where their historic flights took off from is longer than it looks!

Joshua Walton

A lovely place to visit with the whole family, we walked up to the monument and got to see the airfield from afar, we visit the museum which was the highlight and also got to fly kites. All in all it was a great experience that I highly recommend especially for families with children interested in planes or history!

Laura White

Amazing visit!! Nice museum. You can walk to runway where they first flew the glider. Walk to the top of Kill Devil Hill and visit the monument, and crawl around a sculpture of the first glider. Great experience. Would recommend.

Erica Dionn Wright

Had to visit this place as my last name is Wright. I enjoyed visiting and learning the history. I would recommend anyone attending especially taking your children to learn about drive and determination.

John H

Beautiful park. The museum and gift shop aren’t to big but nicely done. The field is well maintained and has nice markers for the events that happen here with a few original structures. There is a monument on the hill behind where the flights took place, it’s a nice walk up with a great view.

Dave Landers

Very enlightening! We learned a lot and enjoyed a demonstration of how the first planes were controlled.

Ray McDaniel

Great little museum. I think it was recently remodeled. Didn't take very long to go through, but very interesting and informative. Cool outdoor exhibit of the workshop and launch rail. A metal full size exhibit near the hill with monument shows the size of the plane and kids will have fun on it.

Matt Dubec

Great history and museum. The museum was recently renovated. We like to climb Big Kill Devil Hill. Just make sure you have plenty of cold water as the climb is intense in the summer heat.

John Rosenkrans

Well done memorial and monument. You can walk the exact flight paths the Wrights flew on four occasions and see reconstructions of their shop. They've got a replica of the 1903 Flyer, and a great statue (which you can climb on) modeled from the iconic photo. Easy visit for kids, with a bit of walking. You can drive to the older monument but have to climb the hill to see it up close, and enjoy the views of the coast.

Patrick Thompson

Super cool to walk the grounds where they tested their inventions and get a feeling for how tedious and repetitive the process was. Get there a little before they open for best access. There are TWO parking lot attendants at the entrance so don't be afraid to use the one on the right if there is a long line on the left. For some reason people kept lining up on the left while the attendant on the right was enjoying his breakfast

Luke Schomberg

Gorgeous structure with a workout walk-up. Fantastic view from the top as well. That is, not the top of the actual memorial, would be much cooler if you could go inside.

Sue Miller

This was so cool! Not only did we love learning more about the brothers and family but we met Alfred 'Al' Worsen the astronaut! And the gift shop had excellent books and kites and small memorabilia too!

L. Guerrero

Amazing monument to such deserving scientists! I mean, can we even imagine a world without flight?

Today we flew and visited the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, NC. This flight ranks very high on every pilot's bucket list. The weather was spectacular and then winds were light making it the perfect day to make the pilgrimage. The monument and museum commemorates the Wright's efforts, setbacks and successes towards achieving the first powered flight from level ground. The park rangers were very knowledgeable. The guided tour was very informative transporting you back in time and get a feeling of what it may have been like. What a great inspiration to see what can be accomplished with perseverance although progress may not be evident while working towards achieving your goals. This theme is carried throughout the exhibits including a wall where visitors can write down their dreams taking a first step towards making them reality. We had lunch at the Outer Banks Brewing Station which is about a half mile walk from the memorial site. We walked from the museum down N. Croatan Hwy (US HWY 158) but there weren't any sidewalks and it didn't feel safe. A better option is to use the park's southern entrance and take Collington Rd east towards the restaurants. This route has sidewalks throughout making it much more pleasant. There are many additional restaurants in the same area to check out as well.

Bill Mustakas

They very much deserve a memorial. It is worth a short visit.

Emily DiNoto

Great spot full of history! Walk to the top of the memorial for great views of the sound and the ocean. Always a great stop!

Bart Kinlein

Truly historic site. Excellent museum with frequent lectures regarding the Wright brothers' efforts over the years to develop controlled flight.

Towana HarrisLawson

Stopped by on May 3rd after the remodel. Love it !! We couldn't wait to see what changes had been made. It's really nice .. The history lesson is awesome going back in time to the 1st flight.
