This was the highlight of our trip to the mountains. The weather was not very cooperative and so we only had time to walk across and turn around to walk back as there was lightning. The staff were great at making sure that we knew the urgency of the situation and ensured that we all made it back inside safely. I would love to go back there again - hopefully when it is sunny with no threat from lightning.
Unforgettable views, can see approaching weather easily at such an elevation. Way up there for East coast. Love driving through “The Curve” Forrest Gump ran through, on the way up. Always smells great up there. Bridge is not scary but appears to be, swings in a level plane left to right. Easy to maintain balance, just get out there & enjoy the Mile High atmosphere!
Beautiful views you can get from the Swinging Bridge, there is absolutely nothing to worry about when you are crossing it, you wouldn't regret trying. It's just a beautiful place and the views you can't just get enough of them, my family and I simply Love it, we have been visiting for 16 years.
Very nice place, breathe taking views. Lots of things to do. They have many hiking trails. Very busy place.
228 foot swinging bridge is well worth the visit. Go on a clear day! Use caution. There are many volunteers around who will tell you about the area, the view and also take photos.
It was great and all but not quite what I was expecting, I was on the understanding that it actually moved more then it did and made out of wood
Awesome views, great place to stop by
The bridge is in good shape it makes some creeky noises that sound like a scary movie. But, it didnt scare me at all. The actual height off the ground is only like 75ft so it doesnt seem that bad once you are on the bridge but the views cannot be matched. This is a much better suspended bridge experience over skybridge in gatlinburg tn.
Cool attraction inside Grandfather Mountain State Park. There's a short hike to get up to the bridge area, or you can also park and use an elevator if necessary. Amazing views once you get there. The bridge also "sings" in the wind, very neat experience.
Beautiful views from the bridge. My kids were disappointed that the bridge doesn't sway much, if at all. They were hoping for something more daring I suppose ;)
Don't look down lol.
Awesome!! Highly recommend if you are in Western North Carolina you stop by. Roads are a bit curvy but drop it into low gear and you will fine.
It was just a good place there's a lot of stuff that you can do there we can go through a museum and a gift shop and have a fudge shop and nature animals is it Grandfather Mountain
Great views. We especially enjoyed the .4 mile hike from the lower parking lot through the woods. We did the hike with two dogs. The hike is narrow and rocky, though, so have appropriate footwear and mobility haha. Everyone enjoyed it!
Fantastic place to visit. We visited on a rainy, foggy day and still enjoyed it. So much to offer. You pull in at the gates, pay your fee, and receive a great CD to listen to as you progress up the mountain. It does a good job separating the tracks for the different sights along the way. Great animal exhibits to see. Definitely go in the museum and watch the video to learn lots about the unique habitat of Grandfather Mountain. We drove up past Forest Gump turn and hiked up the 0.4 trail to come out under the bridge. Then we walked across.
This was an awesome experience....Everyone has to come here. Beautiful scenery!
Very pretty area.
Very high a little scary but the views are breath taking. If your in the area a must see. Taking the road up to the bridge is one of the roads Forest Gump (Tom Hanks) ran up in the movie. There are signs where it happened so of course we parked the car and ran up it. It’s a steep curve and not for the faint of heart. You go Hanks!
Not what we thought but it still was cool for the littles.
Scared me to death, but I loved it
Great experience.
Great place to go
This is Grandfather Mtn park. There are animals in protective enclaves.. ,restaurant, museum and gardens. And of course the swinging bridge. It's a great place to bring the kids. There are many areas for picknicks. All said it's a great outing in North Carolina.
It made the most beautiful music
Fantastic place to spend time.. Lots of vistas and lots of history to learn.. Go with family if possible or go alone.. Just go, you will never regret it..
Similar tp Lakshman Jhula in India. Nice view around.
Beautiful place to visit and enjoy with family and friends!
Wish we could give them five stars and plus a few more stars for being a really beautiful place exciting breathtaking
I was pleasantly surprised to hear the bridge sing! I highly recommend a trip to the top. The wind was incredibly strong when we went. But they shut it down when it's too dangerous.
Beautiful views from the top
Awesome view! Worth it if in the Boone/Blowing rock area!
Quite an engineering marvel. The only place where this exists. The views north and south were spectacular. It may not be the kind of place you visit often, but it is something you shouldn't miss.
My son loves the bridge. However it terrifies me
Views we're absolutely breathtaking and loved the twists and turns getting up the Mountain! Extremely inspirational! Habitats & animals were very well maintained! Highly recommend Grandfather Mountain as a must see trip for all!
Wonderful place and staff who are full of sunshine.
What a beautiful place! On a clear day you can see Charlotte skyline from the peak. It sways a bit but otherwise is really safe.
Pretty cool place. A little expensive to get in if you are just going to check out the bridge. I think it was $22 per adult. They also have an area with animals and some good hiking trails. If you are going to go I recommend making a day out of it to get your moneys worth. The views from the bridge are spectacular. Even better once you cross it.
Incredible! I would come back just to experience the bridge again. It was quite amazing and beautiful to see. If you are afraid of heights, I would not recommend it. As the bridge swings a little. It's beautiful to see and I would recommend anyone that ventures into the mountain to journey to the top and see it.
Views were awsome
The bridge is easily accessible by elevator for those that can't climb stairs, but there aren't that many steps either. Spectacular views from the bridge as well as the Rocky mountain on the other side. Though I'm not afraid of heights, I did get nervous climbing the Rocky mountain on the other side. It is easy to climb but that height did make me nervous. Do not try what you see in the picture! That's my crazy relative trying to defy the laws of gravity, but the view behind him is fantastic!
Great destination and beautiful scenery as you cross the swinging bridge.
Terrified at first but once my husband and I got on the swinging bridge it was a great experience. The bridge really doesn't swing that much. Once you cross the bridge you can look over the mountain or climb the rocks.
Was good. Would go again. A little pricy.
Weather was very good, a little cold.. Mary and I enjoyed it.
So much fun and the view is the best.
Wow, Great way to end a day. 1 mile high on a rocky Bridge. Views to remember a life time.
Loved the place! The bridge is not for the faint of heart and I loved the experience!!
We had a great time. Worth the trip.
Love the bridge, beautiful views
Awesome place. Great views. Thrilling!
Amazing view!
Gorgeous views and well marked trails with beautiful hiker babes abound. Gotta visit the Forrest Gump curve :)
Touristy, but great views.
had a blast!! Check it out if you're near there.
Such a cool idea and they even marked the mile on the bridge so you'd know exactly where to stand for pictures.
The swing bridge and the animal habitat was awesome but it took 40 minutes to get into the park! then we get into the park and it takes another hour to get up to the top because of the long line of cars. I think it is a little over priced. you get to the swing bridge and there is just way too many people at the bridge. I would have thought there was at least hand rails going to the end but there was not. Very disappointing.
Dont go on holidays. Waited 2 hours just to park.
It was really swinging as it was very windy the day we visited. Still fun though!
This is a peaceful and serene spot to reflect. We visited on a weekday so it wasn't very crowded. After crossing the bridge, you can venture out on the rocks. I took a lot of negative edge photographs. Older people and children need to be especially careful of the terrain.
This is a really great attraction to visit.
Loved the view from this peak. It is spectacular. We can see blue ridge mountains very clearly. It had colder winds and fall colors looked awsm from swinging bridge.
Unbelievable!! Absolutely breathtaking views! A must see if you are in the area. Awesome animal habitat with bald eagles, black bears, otters and elk.
Awsome plc to visit
Terrifying and awesome at the same time
Came here with my parents back in the early 60's, brought my kids here numerous times in the 80's and 90's, grandkids this year. Unlike me, it never gets old! Take it all in.
It was great and beautiful views!
First time here. Pricey tickets for large groups but swinging bridge is fun. Pet friendly outside.
Cool pedestrian bridge at the top of Grandfather Mountain. The bridge is 1 mile high in elevation, but only 80 from the ground. It also swings when there is wind or lot of people on the bridge, like when we went. The bridge connects the parking lot at the top with another Mountain top with great views.
Scared out of my mind but I loved it!!! This is a definite plus to our trip. Would go again but earlier in the morning when there isn't so many people.
Amazing!! The trail is moderate but worth every single step. The bridge is not as scary as it sounds but offers one of the prettiest views we have experienced.
After an invigorating hike scissoring up the mountain, you find a breath taking view.
It was different and windy but loved it. Dress warm if you go in the winter
Well worth the climb!
Excellent views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Gorgeous scenery and weather. It made for a very nice getaway from the heat of the DC area. There is a nice little museum and very small zoo on Grandfather Mountain as well. I highly recommend crossing the bridge (it only moves a little bit) for the amazing view afforded by moving up on the rocks on the other side.
The view is spectacular! Fun to walk on the bridge. Amazing feeling if it’s a cloudy /foggy kinda weather. Loved the place, a bit scary to walk on the bridge making constant metal cranking sound. It’s a hiking heaven for sure.Pack your bags and jet set go.
Very nice place to visit and very cool. The drive up is very steep with hairpin turns. You will enjoy the view once you've arrived
Beautiful, great place to visit with the family!!
Breathtaking views. Be sure to bring some lunch so you can sit down at one of the many picnic tables in the area and soak in all of God's beautiful work.
If you are looking for a place to spend a day hiking and taking in the views, this is the place for you!
Beautiful and well operated
Unbelievable Park! Grandfather Mountain has spectacular views! Great place to hike! Great photo opportunities. Super Cool place!!
Really fun place with great views. Accessible for all. You can drive to the top of the mountain and take the stairs or elevator to the bridge or for more of an adventure, park lower down and hike to the top. Either way, it's a great experience!
One of the best tourist attractions in NC. This is a must see
It's a beautiful place to visit. Walking on the bridge is a mildly adrenaline fueled experience. People with acrophobia should be careful though. The view from the summit after crossing the bridge is astounding. It was a tranquil experience for me to spend the time there.
We loved this! Even my 86 year old grandmother crossed the mile high bridge with her walker! Amazing views!
Awesome views of the Blue Ridge / Appalachians. Don't go on a cloudy day
Amazing views every season !! Come here very often !! Travel the world people !
Spectacular view. Exciting and fun
Holy moly was this an amazing place! Worth the money and the CD tour was pretty neat!
Slow moving people, terrified of a structurally sound bridge. Still, the view was amazing.
It's a great place to spend the day bring good walking shoes. Some area become slippery with rain and if you slip it's along ways down. Kids will enjoy the zoo they have it located halfway up the mountain.
Such a beautiful place to take your family and I was amazed my little three-year-old went across the bridge
Just another display of God's handy work!
A must do if you visit this area. I think it's $20 a head. Well worth it. I liked the fact that at the gate you get a CD that is a guided tour up the mountain. There is a place to stop off and see bears, mountain lions and such in their natural habitat. When you get to the top it is much cooler than it felt at the bottom. And the views are incredible!!!! The combination of sensory overload on a beautiful day is indescribable. Cross over the swinging bridge and you have sort of made it to the mile high club. That club is really difficult to join nowadays. With sky marshals and all. Terrorists really know how to ruin the good things in life. So...I guess just opt for a kiss because small children will be looking.
It was awesome experience , even old age pple can make it. As thr is elevator too. there is fee to visit 22$ for adult 9$ for kid >2
It was beautiful, but I think 20 dollars a person is too much. It should be 20 a car or 10 a person.
Beautiful views. Would recommend to anyone.
Such a great view and location. I highly recommend you add Grandfather Mountain into your vacation plans. My two teenagers loved the hike up from the parking lot and the bridge itself.
This is the best part to visit. Little bit parking issue in case of high volume of visit. But, the team support in guiding parking lot.
Super scary! But a very beautiful well kept place! It is $20 for adults so bring a picnic lunch and make the most out of it (price is the only down fall if you aren't staying long).
So cool, bucket list item
Great views. Thrilling heights when on the bridge and wind blowing 40mph that day!!! A must visit when in the area
Such a beautiful view! The bridge is very strong and sturdy, and there are very friendly volunteers helping people maneuver the place. They also have answers to many questions about the place. There is elevator access, and a nice gift shop here also.
The view is AMAZING
Amazing views!
So scary and so liberating. This was the best part of my trip.
Grandfather mountain is beautiful. Well worth the trip and the cost of admission
Spectacular view and a very unique experience.
Quite expensive but beautiful views. Also has live bears to visit and museum with gemstones
This was one of the coolest things at Grandfather Mountain. It's a bridge that was constructed literally 1 mile high. It doesn't swing anymore because it was reconstructed with galvanized steel from wood; it shouldn't be scary to anyone.
The view is absolutely tremendous, and the altitude gives you a fantastic break from summer heat. The mountain is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon, picnic with incredible vistas, and take advantage of unlimited photo opportunity. Wildlife abounds, and there is a good chance that you will see so e sort of animal if you look closely. We saw deer and a respectable sized wild turkey. The bridge itself had minimal sway and offered a sweeping view of the valley and lake below. The wind was brisk, but not uncomfortable. If you are acclimated to warm summer temperature (so ya'll from SC and Fl) bring a sweater or jacket, the temperature at altitude is decidedly lower. This place is a "don't miss" tourist attraction.
Definitely a great spot to visit with your family. Beautiful place to snap good photos. Can see few wild animals too. Had a long waiting time on the road due to entrance traffic. The ticket center is not prepared for large special day crowds. No online tickets facilities, yet. Should consider having online ticket facilities to reduce waiting time. May create an app to eliminate demonstration CD. Very important note is. THERE IS NO/LITTLE GPS SIGNAL. Bring a map and familiarize yourself where you're going. We missed one turn and got help on the road and u-turned due to trouble in GPS signal. Good idea to bring snacks as there is NO food stores nearby other than an indoor cafeteria which has limited choices and is often crowded.
Great view from this place, don't miss out guys!
Simply amazing with an elevator for those who cant make it up the steps
Hiked up Grandfather Mountain 7 months pregnant to see the bridge, it was worth it and felt very safe. The walk up is not recommended for older people who tire easier as it is steep at times.
The cute is absolutely beautiful
Nice view, more and more houses in it though
Stunning views of the mountains!
Loved it walking with my little boys.
Wonderful family fun place!! The view ia just breath-taking. If you hike from the parking lot up to the Mile High Swinging Bridge then wear confortable shoes and it will probably take an extra 10 min's than the posted 15 mins.
Beautiful spot, we went for New year's 2017/2018 got to the top, wind gusts over 60mph, clouds came, Frost and bit a snow, made for some beautiful photos. Definitely a place to visit. So much history in the museum, great place for family.
The grandkids love this place. Nice animal habitat and naturalist give talks at regular intervals and feed the animals. Views are spectacular. Be sure to check this one out if you are in the high country region .
Great place to explore!
Just scary enough to thrill but definitely safe for anyone to cross. The view on the side is spectacular, just try to go when it isn't so foggy. And be careful about hat's and sunglasses, it's a long drop to the bottom!
Beautiful views. Definitely get there early before the crowds start coming in!
I love to travel, take in the sights, meeting new people and finding exciting places to get a bite to eat or a good drink. I'm always taking my best friend along for the ride. Like he says "You can take photos to remember something but don't get too busy that you forget to live it" The mile high bridge was great! The scenery was beautiful. It's something to enjoy with friends and family. As always be careful, follow signs and safety regulations when taking kids to places like the bridge.
What an experience. A must see.
Amazing views and great photo opportunities. Would strongly recommend to anyone, even those afraid of heights as the area is safe.
It was very very beautiful.
The views were amazing. There was also a bear exhibit where they do demonstrations. It was a great experience.
This bridge has an amazing view. It's a very sturdy bridge that has a little sway to it. Walking across it is a fun and exciting experience. The bridge is not 1 mile above the land below you but 1 mile above sea level. But when you get halfway across the bridge you can look out and see a beautiful scene of the landscape below.
Feels good to swing on the swinging bridge
The trail hike up to the bridge was not incredibly difficult, but does require some balance and strength. Especially if the rocky path is wet. It is narrow in some parts, so passing returning hikers requires patience. Amazing views at the top.
A little scary on a windy day, but fun.
Amazing view. Nothing like it, but for the space it was slightly crowded.
Great place to visit. Well recommend it. The bridge moves a little bit and if you have not been on high altitude you may at first feel a bit scared but once you cross the bridge ans come back the addrenaline will wear out a bit and you will then enjoy the panorama.
Wonderful scenery very steep incline
Beautiful view.
Wow such a cool place ,
Very impressive. The views are amazing. The bridge is cool.
Definitely worth the $20 admission, there's a lot to do and this was one of the most beautiful lookout points I've ever seen. Worth it for the view alone.
Very windy. The view was gorgeous.
If your afraid of heights you probably need to just look at the bridge and not tempt crossing it
$20/person
$20 a person????!!!! Wow, seems high, we pulled in and didn’t pay the $140 it would of cost our family. Instead we did Blowing Rock which was $7 a person and the views were way better. Plus did some nice shopping and didn’t spend all that $$$. We didn’t want to even walk across the bridge, just seems crazy to charge $20 for a view. Hopefully they will consider to reduce this cost as we saw 24 people turn around including us. Very disappointed in NC
At first I thought it was pricey, but it turned out to be really worth it. The bridge was awesome but the free car audio tour and the animal exhibits with encounters were unexpected. We also bought fudge from the shop. Its to die for.
The view is spectacular! Very windy on the bridge but that makes it perfect for the bridge to play harmonica sounding music! 1 mile above sea level
We love going here as a family.
