This is a favorite of our friends and family... from challenging hikes to places that the kids can splash and play.... we never have a dull time. There is decent fishing at the lake. The campsites are well maintained and work whether you do the tent thing, or the RV.
The climb to this spot from the parking lot of the park is not for the faint of heart. But the view is priceless. If you plan on going, wear a good pair or climbing shoes or sneakers with a hard sole. The walk along the path is steep at times, but there are benches along the way. The final climb is a little hard, be careful where you step. There are many rocks with sharp edges along the final climb.
A lot of hiking, but beautiful place to spend the day with the family, we had an amazing day and my family that was visiting from TX loved it!
I always have an amazing time on all the trails at hanging Rock. Today we went to the waterfalls and it was beautiful. My dogs don't like the gravel on some of the pathways, but I appreciate it.
Great place to relax and bring the kiddies for a swim. Also got in canoe and paddleboard for 7$ an hour. Awesome!!!
Best family fun around ! You can swim , hike see all kinds of nature . Plus at the end of the day you can take that time to grill eat and reflect on the fun you just had with your family !
Beautiful park with great amenities. I came here on a quick camping trip. Staff was extremely helpful with directions. The hosts were very attentive and had firewood. Campsites were clean. I took the summit trail which is right next to the 1-16 campsites. Trails are well maintained and clearly marked. If you like to hike or just looking to do some camping in the tri state area I would recommend hanging rock
Very beautiful location. So much fun to hike these trails and great exercise. I enjoyed the variety of plants and beautiful blue skies.
We go here every year a few times. My kids love it and we always have fun.
This park has a great campground and nice hiking trails. If you can camp and watch a moonrise from hanging rock I highly recommend it. Also, there are nice hiking trails to the waterfalls that are often overlooked by most people.
Oh my, I am still tired from the 1.3 mile hike up on the Hanging Rock trail. And then 1.3 miles downward. Beautiful place, beautiful scenery, totally majestic. Great hiking fun for the family.
The trails are great! The waterfalls also add a lot of beauty to the hikes. The staff are all so kind as well. Really enjoyed having a family cookout at one of their picnic areas. Highly recommend visiting this gorgeous place!
Love this place. There are signs that guide you everywhere. Trails are easy to follow. The hikes are a great workout. I didn’t swim in the lake, but I loved the scenery at the top of hanging rock and at the falls.
Simply loved the trail walk to the hanging rock. Took us about 45 minutes to get there. Went with our two daughters, aged 10 and 7. Quite steep in certain areas. Even got to see a copperhead snake on the trail on our way down as well as a deer.
We love bringing the kids here when we are driving through the area. Great place to camp, explore nature and enjoy time with the family.
This place is a gem! My only complaint was that the women's bathroom smelled like piss at the visitor center. The trails were nice. I would say a little harder than described on the map though.
I love this area, you can see the top of the world, waterfalls and nature all in a half day!
Great place to hike, swim, camp and so much more!
Nice location with camp grounds and eating area. The lake was beautiful and there are life guards on duty for those swimming or paddle boating.
Hanging Rock is my neighborhood state park so I may be a little biased, but it is my favorite state park of the lots (not all) that I have visited. So many trails of varying lengths and difficulty, several beautiful waterfalls, most of which you can play in or around, breathtaking views, camping, fishing, seasonal swimming in a mountain lake, canoeing and just straight up enjoying nature! While summer is a great time to visit, I enjoy the peace and solitude that comes with hiking here in the winter. Every season is amazing.
It is so relaxing to sit look at the water and when you get in the water is cool and refreshing. I really enjoy spending an afternoon there.
Beautiful place! Nice water hole for the kids to swim in also. Bring some extra clothes. Also apparently a good place for photoshoots..
Absolutely stunning. Wouldn't recommend the Hanging Rock trail for little ones, but there are many short hikes to waterfalls that younger children would enjoy. You can even play in the water!
Good moderate hiking trails with fulfilling view of blue mountains. It gets harder as elevation increases.
It was a fun and chill kind of a day. We will be going back for another season.
Nearby Triad and extremely nice park with trials, waterfalls and much more Strongly recommend
The swimming area is nice and my family enjoys the area. The hiking trails are beautiful and very challenging. The fishing SUCKS! There are too many trees giving little area to fish from the bank. And the few spots that are open has a lot of seaweed. Be prepared for snags.
A great state park, NC knows how to do it well, SC should take notes. Great staff, facilities and upkeep. The natural beauty was easy to access, but not touristified if that's a word.
For almost 3 decades this place makes us feel like a little part of time sets still. Giving the feeling of an easier time. Not having to or able to deal with the issues of today's problems. Hike, camp, swim, fish,.. relax.
Nice looking and fresh
One of the most beautiful parks I've ever been to. You definitely need to make a reservation if you're going on the weekend in the ON season
Has a wide variety of trails, with different difficulties. I appreciate the fact that the trails have a bunch of environments and views. The 1.6 mile trail to hanging rock is very crowded, so do that one first. Once you get off that trail, the crowds thin out quickly. The waterfalls are a nice walk too, and very pretty. Would like to come back and hike again.
Easy drive from Winston Salem with lots of trails for all skill levels. The park is well kept and also features a beach on the lake if you're up for a swim.
Definitely loved hiking to the top what a breathtaking view! The hike is 1.3 miles up and the section that is stairs definitely takes some work! But the work is worth the reward. Definitely provides some panorama views once you reach the top. I would highly recommend going on a day that is not too warm so you can enjoy it more
Perfect place to enjoy nature. The trails are very easy and short distances. Kids and dogs are more than welcome here. They will enjoy the trip very much. The Hanging Rock Trail is 1mile long and the views from the top are totally worth it. The Waterfall Trial is very short, but also very beautiful too. I hardly recommend this place for all the nature lovers like me
A very well maintained state park Trails are well marked. Staff are friendly and attentive. The hike is a moderate and rewarding one. The view is breath taking. Not so crowded when we came after the rain. Lots of short and enjoyable waterfalls trail too. Picnic spots and shelter. They have water fountains for you and your fur friend. Nice size lake to swim and and campground. Highly recommend to bring your family for a whole day of adventures and reconnecting with nature.
Great place to take the kids. Cheap prices! If you want to walk or hike it is also a great place. Beautiful scenery to enjoy as well and they have a lifeguard on duty.
The best state park in the Carolinas that I have visited. There are 5 waterfalls and a nice swimming lake.
A very good state park. Great views atop the mountain. Waterfalls are nice too. Lots to offer.
Had a blast here a couple of weeks ago. Grabbed some friends and headed to the Lower Cascades for the day. From the drive, to the falls, we had a great time. It was just before Memorial Day, so we beat the mayhem that ensues afterwards... Hahaaa, this is a great spot, so lots of people enjoy it in the heat of summer. I'd say it is best enjoyed in the spring or fall. Less people and if you're like me, you can swim any time of year. :-) We had such a great time i failed to get a single picture of the actual waterfall. Just goes to show we were lost in the beauty. Photos attached are the trail leading to the falls. Enjoy! I love the faces you can see in the rock ledges. Definitely worth the trip and the hike back up those steps. You'll feel it, but you won't regret it.
Always a pleasant trip to Hanging Rock State Park! Even if you don’t take the longer trek up the mountain, there are plenty of short trails with nice, rewarding views of the waterfalls. There is also a lake for swimming and fishing. This place is truly the crown of Stokes County, North Carolina. Plenty of parking is available. Leashed dogs are allowed on all the trails- just be careful on those rock steps.
Such a large park and so many beautiful places to explore. The lower Cascades were very peaceful and a great spot to enjoy a picnic lunch! Can't wait to return!
We love to hike here. It's a little crowded, but the paths are easy enough to see, the bathrooms are clean, and the view is wonderful. Kids and adults love it, and seeing everyone pups is fun.
We hiked to the top of hanging rock with both of our dogs. It was beautiful! The is a lot to do, fun for the whole family.
Have been here many times and it never disappoints! Today we went swimming in the lake and the lower cascade waterfall. It was awesome!
Fun for the family outside. Was not aware there was a charge to go swimming until we got there. However if you hike to the waterfalls, that's free. There is a waterfall 0.2 mi away from the visitor center.
To far for me but love ❤️how far I did went and my husband too
One of the most beautiful parks in our area and plenty of things to do there whether you enjoy climbing, waterfalls or the lake. They also have boat rentals for those that want to go out and putter around the lake.
Bring a lunch bring your bathing suit bring nice water shoes very friendly kid friendly
Awesome just awesome the hiking trails are great and the water falls. The woods are lovley. What a place to go and unwind wish I lived closer
One heck of an adventure! I loved hiking through the trails and seeing the waterfalls. The view at the top is just breathtaking! The reason why this place gets a four-star is because its campground doesn't have a shower and the bathroom we got was old, dirty, and scary. I will camp here again, but I need to be cautious about the bathrooms.
Visited hidden and window waterfalls. Not much water to call it as waterfall but if you are someone who like to hike and burn calories, you can try this short hike. Hanging rock trial is around 1.2 miles each way with much elevation but view from top are just awesome. Have cap, goggles, water packed and dont carry heavy luggage as you will easily get tired by the time you reach top. Coming back will be far easy which took around 30 mins as its pretty slope.
Hanging rock is beautiful! The waterfalls are lovely. We were only able to walk 2 trails but they were beautiful. Being in nature is so soothing and calming. They have picnic tables, grills, sell arts and crafts, lake for fishing, if you choose, etc. We got there early in the morning and were able to beat the rush.
Was my first time visiting and that place is awesome! I really like it, lots of hiking trails. So much to see in just one day. Perfect for family or photographers.
Beautiful waterfall hiking trails. Dan River Bluffs is a must see. The lake in the summer is perfect for kids! Very nice and educational visitors center. Excellent customer service and care by park staff and rangers.
Just beautiful. I had my first hike with friends. We had so much fun.
Great place to take the family for a mini vacay! The little beach there is a plus for the little ones. The trails are also a great workout if you like that kind of stuff followed by some amazing waterfalls where you can cool down. Pets love it too!
REALLY enjoyed hiking here & the park rangers were very friendly & informative. There were cute souveniers available in the park office & a nice farmer's market in the main parking lot. Tons of trails, beautiful scenery, & you can even go swimming in the Lower Cascades. Beautiful day, beautiful place.
Beautiful scenery great hiking trails. The water falls aren't the most spectacular in the world but they are beautiful. The lake area is real nice. You can rent boats. Good camping grounds. Please come see for yourself
Quieto, celan, and safe. Nice place to spend time with your family and friends
Great hike to work out and get your sweat on. Bring a partner with you and motivate each other for breath taking views
Beautiful park with several trails and waterfalls. The kids had a lot of fun. There are picnic tables, restrooms, plenty of parking space and great staff. During the weekends it is crowded, but worth the visit.
Great place to spend a day. Good place e to hike and put your head in a couple of waterfalls.
Fun trails to choose from and are all well marked. Beautiful views, 30 mins. From Winston Salem.
Well kept park. Many trails to hike and a lake. Its great for a family trip.
Fantastic place to spend a day, or a weekend! There are several hikes throughout the park, some of them to waterfalls, and each to a view which will take your breath away. There is a campground (no power or sewer hook-ups for an RV) but at a reasonable rate that can't be beat. The lake at the top of the park is good for a walk around. Picnic areas are all over the place, and many offer grills for cooking on-site. The best part of all though? The hike up to an amazing view ON Hanging Rock. A MUST-SEE!
Hanging rock is a great place for a little adventure. Great for a nice hike. There are short trails and long difficult trails. The lake is awesome. There is fishing and swimming. Good for a day trip or camp and enjoy all the amenities, as well as sites as nd fun outside of the park. Float down the river, go a short distance to the Blue Ridge Parkway, play a round of golf, site see, or enjoy one of the many other outdoor activities.
Hanging Rock is one of the best state parks in NC for hiking. There are tons of trails with amazing views. I visited the park today for the first time after 15+ years and it was just as I remembered. We hiked the tough 2.6 mile Hanging Rock trail (btw is much harder than I remembered) then we swam in the lake and jumped off the diving platform to cool off. I LOVE HANGING ROCK
Such a beautiful place to spend the day. Took the kids and the dogs and had a great time. Found the waterfall with the little swimming nook and took the opportunity to cool off after a day of hiking.
Loved the view and the family time. Make sure that you wear appropriate clothing and bring water.
Only gave this 3 stars because WE chose the wrong day to attend....Memoral Day. We only experienced the swimming beach area. The "sand beach" is actually a dirt beach, but that was okay. We had to wait 20 minutes to get a wristband and pay to get into the beach area. They had adequate life guards and we didn't see anyone being "rowdy". We found parking easy enough. We will go back on another week day to hike the trails.
It was our last day of vacation so we went and visit hanging Rock had a great time you can swim go for a boat ride and enjoy a cookout we also went on the walking trail but be careful because we saw a snake but one of the walking trails but we went the other way we didn't bother a snake we also went to the visitor center
Awesome place. Nice easy to get to waterfalls that are beautiful. Other nice hikes too. Picnic area is shaded and is quite large with ample parking.
Went with a few of my Curves Circuit fitness comrades. 2 hr drive. Lovely area. Bet it's beautiful in the fall. Picnic area right off main parking lot. Map shows which trails r easy, moderate or strenuous. We took 2 moderate and 1 easy to see 3 waterfalls. Actually climbed up one waterfall so we could say "Curves Strong, we did it"! It wasnt easy and quite slippery in spots. We did see a lady take a fall and hit her mouth so be extra cautious! Lots of stairs to climb down and back up! My legs got a great workout!
I love it here, although not sure why they put down large loose gravel on the trails.. made it a bit slippery on our hike. But none the less it's still beautiful. Well kept, picnic areas, dogs allowed. Definitely recommend hiking to the falls
This park has so much to offer. If you love nature, nice views and all around peace and solitude, this is the place to visit. Been going for 50 years and don't plan to stop.
Large number of trails in good condition. One of the two closest areas for mountain hiking to the Triangle. Lots of people in the first mile of the visitor center, but handled pretty well. Further out, the trails just have normal traffic.
Beautiful views, nice hiking variety, quiet while I was there Friday night - Saturday morning. Campsite was great and bathhouse was one of the better ones I've seen.
Beautiful water fall and the view. They do have a small lake side beach where you can swim and do little extra. Don’t forget to bring comfortable clothes if you wanna hike here. It is worthwhile kayaking at the lake. Just make sure you carry your gears for kayaking- renting a kayak is I think $10 bucks.
Really beautiful place. There are many trails you can go for on rainy day. Hidden falls and window falls trails are really short but very nice. Definitely recommending this place.
Beautiful place to hike. It also has small water falls. If you like hiking I recomended. Not for small kids.
It is so beautiful and peaceful. The best time to visit this place is in early morning and climb the mountain in the morning. is so good that it take your breath away.
Great staff that really know the park (Susan), a lot of options for hiking, beautiful scenery, nice camping areas, and wildlife galore!
Beautiful location. We hiked the hanging rock trail with our dog. It was a nice and moderate hike with some steep climbs and stairs. I would highly reccomend wearing sneakers or hiking boots as there are some loose gravel sections that would be difficult without them. Also, it is a fairly difficult hike towards the top, proper hiking attire is a must. The views are beautiful and well worth the hike to the top.
Excellent camping ground with usual facilities. I was out there with my family including a 4yrs and we were camping out for the first time. It was a great experience at the end and will surely be back again soon. The place was clean and spacious enough to accommodate 2 small families or a big one. The tenting place was also clean and adequate, property organized. Highly recommended.
I don't know of many parks this close to home where you can camp, swim, fish, tube, zipline, and also has great little diners and family restaraunts. First time camping with the kids, they loved it! Coming back soon.
Hanging Rock State Park is awesome. They have a lot of great hiking trails. Going up to lookout tower and the Hanging Rock trail are both definitely worth it for the scenery.
Absolutely love this place! A great place to clear your head and go hiking with your family. Or just one on one with your special someone.
It was all fine and dandy til I forgot to bring water haha. Make sure you hydrate and stretch and wear either comfortable boots or running shoes while on the trail. Its a long walk. Very beautiful scenery.
So beautiful. Peacful and great time for damily to hang out
Great place to see and experience nature. Great hiking trails!! The are hilly terrain with steps. Falls are nice.
A secret that not many know, it is a very well maintained and pristine woods state park. Nice way to spend a day at beach(artificial with sand etc), canoeing, trails, mountain climbing, and waterfalls. Perfect for budding families as it is alcohol free environment and great snack bar service. Get your lunch packed and you can easily spend till the end.
Beautiful park with a variety of stunning waterfalls and lots of trails with spectacular views. Some of which are moderately easy and others are quite challenging. Weekends are extremely busy, so I prefer to go on weekdays and off-season.
It's absolutely beautiful! Great hiking trails, gorgeous waterfalls and plenty of water holes to cool off in. Everyone working at the park were very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.
Love the trails here. Place has trails, fishing, swimming, paddle board, and canoes. Great place for family or friends. Highly recommended going.
the hiking was amazing , the view on the top is phenomenal , dont miss the falls after the hanging rock. they are amazing. you need to take a different trail from the visitor center , ask for the map
Family friendly and great places to explorer. I love waterfalls and there are so many to look at. The lake is great and has lifegaurds
I really enjoyed this park. Very nice falls and easy to hike trails are well maintained. The visitors center was very well informed. My work colleagues state that the campground is good for kids.
Great trails. Nice fishing lake and hiking trails to top of hanging rock. Have not stayed in camp ground but advise reservation far ahead.
Very good nature park for hiking and trailing. It takes about 30 to 40 min to reach the cliff. But worth visiting for the experience you get there
Great hiking trails. Some are a little challenging and take water for the hanging rock trail.
The park is beautiful and has several trails to pick from. We used to love to come on the weekends and camp, but for the past couple of years it has become impossible to just go get a site. Now you have to make reservations WEEKS in advance. We still come for day hikes on the weekend.
The upper cascade trail is perfect distance for my 4 year old and he had a blast playing in the water.
Nice shady sites, decent facilities. Great hiking trails. Mostly tent campers as no powered sites. No dump station.
Great place to visit, enjoy, and unwind! Anytime you can get close to nature, it is great thing. There are some really nice trails to hike through, and some very nice natural features such as waterfalls. If you are agile you can try the abundant rock climbing features. If you want to spend more time taking it all in, then camp in your tent, trailer/RV, or a cabin. This is a very nice part of North Carolina that is worth visiting.
Great place for hiking. There is also a lake you can swim in or canoe in.
Great for a quick get away from Greensboro with out having to drive too far. The view from the top is amazing.
A challenging hike to the top of Hanging Rock with breathtaking views! The trails is very rocky and in some spots slow going, they have multiple hikes and trails for everyone! I would highly recommend taking a day to go and explore!
If you are interested in short but challenging trail, u must visit this place.. around 70 floors elevation. Must say it was one of the toughest moderate trail I did recently. Nice view from hanging rock as well.
It has a beach, lake with crystal clear water, family friendly hiking, couple of beautiful picture perfect waterfalls where one can spend a long time with family. What else do you need for a day out. In addition it has camping, hiking and boating opportunities. It also has very well maintained shelters and restrooms. It is one of the must visit attractions in North Carolina.
Excellent trails and views. Fun diving board and lake to swim in during the summer. Great place for pets!
Incredibly commercialized hiking and walking spot. Love what they’ve done with the park but I just wish it wasn’t so crowded. A lot of paved paths, laid down gravel, and carved steps have taken the wilderness aspect out of the popular hikes here. Otherwise, it’s a great deal of exercise for a 3 mile round trip hike and the views are pretty amazing.
Beautiful setting and well maintained trails. Be sure to read description of trail before attempting ... Some are not for elderly or out of shape individuals! Take your time and enjoy what nature has provided!
The views are absolutely gorgeous. The hiking trails are fun. The lake view is beautiful. There are several waterfalls around this place as well. The welcome center staff is very helpful.
Love this amazing place!!! Very reasonable prices! $ Diving board, paddle boats, slide and beautiful beach area!! Definitely a great summer spot to take the whole family!!!!
Very nice place. If you're a biker it is a great scenic ride.
Gorgeous ❤️ Be sure to walk along the trail near waterfall down the creek side it's as if you're in a tropical jungle! Absolutely gorgeous!
Awesome! So much to see, plenty to do. Lots of hiking, but if that is not your thing, the two biggest falls are less than a half mile each to get to.
