REVIEWS OF Emlen Physick Estate IN New Jersey

Pat Capozzoli

Nice day out ,a visit through the doctors house ,love the shop and even better when there are events going on.

Debbie Agee

Beer and crab festival too small of a venue for the number of people. The food trucks ran out of water. Couldn't see the bands play but we heard them. Parking was difficult! Expected a better experience after a 2 hour drive.

Bev Kugele

Very pretty building. Wish the tour guides we're not so cranky. Guess it was a long day.

Hugh Morrison

Good food and knowledgeable guides.

Anne Marie Pizzullo

A true gem. The staff is wonderful. Friendly, knowledgeable and sincere.

Melanie Thiel

So much history, terrific tour guide. A must see

John de Kock

Kids had a fantastic time at the fairy breakfast.

Maureen Sacco

Beautiful display inside the carriage house (also gift shop) with a Christmas tree and train platform. My parents have a MAC grandparents' membership so we also took a trolley ride and I was the only one who had to pay. My littles loved it! And, if they're happy, mama's happy.

Amanda Martin

Cool house. I wish we got to see the whole house. Also I wish they talked about how it's haunted. No word was mentioned. We took pictures of every room to see if we would find something looking back at them... we found a green orb in the master bathroom. That was awesome! Please share if anyone else experienced anything seeing this house

Faye Lescalleet

Was quite interesting. Didn't see any ghosts but was fun looking for them.

Joseph McHugh

Of interest to history, architecture buffs.

Christina

We were able to go inside the Physick Estate on our Ghost tour. It is such a beautiful home. Wish we could have seen more!

Egidijus Bartkus

Lovely Victorian house and estate. Take the guided tour and enjoy the interesting detail of times long ago.

Lucy Cobbs

We toured the house this past week-end and had the Holiday version with character reenactment. The focus was on the Christmas decorations and daily entertaining as opposed to architecture, history and furnishings. The Physick tour was more social studies rather than history based and would better serve children at the elementary school age level. Additionally, the social aspect of that time period and socio economic group is not very different than current day or interesting.

Laurie Jo Brignola

Enjoyed the history of the place.

Paul Jennings

Excellent place to get a feel for the gilded life styles of affluent in the Victorian Era. The displays are beautiful and yearly consistent. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The era doesn't change and neither do the displays but there is so much to see and learn, you will learn something new each time you visit.

Rusty Carpenter

Wonderful old estate on Cape May. Well preserved with excellent, informative staff. Buy the combo trolley tour and estate ticket.

Diane Siciliano

A beautiful estate. The tour was very interesting.

Wayne Walters

Good

Mike Luca

Very well preserved historic Victorian home.

Kevin Meaney

Well worth the visit! Lots of antiques and interesting wall coverings.

Thomas Sheakoski

Great look in to Cape May past history.

Karen Hennigan-Thompson

Awesome historic estate. Definitely worth a visit.

Sarah Palmer

Great little place to learn and see more of Victorian history. The gift shop was doing an exhibition of other Victorian houses that included a little history, blueprints, and pictures. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun. I can see where your group size might affect your enjoyment because if the group is too big it's hard to see, but we were lucky and ours was a decent size. We had tea and scones at the end. It was a lovely afternoon.

fhpe77

Interesting tours and nice people. I highly recommend you check it out.

Barbara A. Preston

I always love visiting this old preserved estate. At Christmas, it is decorated with lights. I would highly recommend the House tour and the tea shop. I drive by the historic Victorian mansion whenever I am in Cape May, and I like to include it as a destination in my walks and bike rides.

Barbara Frey

Tree lighting was ok had hoped for some caroling. Had a nice Christmas village display inside.

todd a williams

Take the tour it was excellent. They do something year round. Halloween was even awesome.

A coburn

Bob Jensen

A great looking cation to visit with a very knowledgeable staff .

Lara Nieberding

The house is well maintained. I like living history and it was fascinating to observe how life might have been in the 1800s.

Vivian Torres

My family and I visited this past Friday and really enjoyed the tour to the past guided by very friendly staff.

Robert Nulton

Neat and very educational.

Alfred Johnson

The beautiful architectural drawings of many familiar Victorian houses in Cape May were one of the best exhibits I have seen at this museum.

Paul Cushman

The Hops festival in Cape May is awesome. Great music and beer.

Ryan Penn

Great place to take the kids on a Christmas trolly ride!

Nick Loizzi, Jr.

Interesting history and nice tour.

denise roesch

Went to the Craft Beer and Crab festival, loved the food and all the vendors but disappointed that public could not see the stage unless you set up a chair very early.

Big Mac

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave good insight as to life during that time period. The house was beautiful

Nayi Lorick

We look forward to it every year and schedule our getaway around the Festival. Love the musical line up, food, drinks, and comradery!!

Jeff Hawarden

This is a beautiful place wish we had more time to spend. The grounds are beautiful. This is a gem in the heart I'd Cape May.

Steven Furtado

Great look into the past! Staff was very friendly and helpful!

Jeff Crompton

Awesome

Tom Ogden

Great site interesting tour

Elizabeth Shorten

Wish you could see more of the rooms...

Khal NEPA

Nice house, good guides. Great job with restoration.

Karen Wagniere

Didnt go inside..only a few tours & they were full for that day. Needs more tours!

Leigh Lehhman

Great historic museum. It's restoration was the start of the Victorian Cape May revival.

Breezy Nights

Beautifully restored and wonderful docents. I would have liked a little more time in each room to appreciate the historical pieces and decor but you cannot tour on your own because nothing is roped off. It's worth touring though.

Karla Feeley

Personally, I thought the tour was a bit boring, but the staff were very knowledgeable, and I love what the MAC organization did for Cape May. I enjoyed the trolley ride more than the house tour, personally. MAC membership is a good idea. If you do the trolley ride, house tour and visit the light house, the membership essentially pays for itself. If you have a family member in the coast guard academy, be sure to stop in before or after graduation. They love coast guards!

George Francis

Nice place to visit oldest vacation place in United States so they say older than Atlantic City

Mike Rodriguez

Very nice look into the past and how they lived. Everyone that works there can pretty much answer any questions you have about the mansion and the surrounding area.

Donald Wilcox

Great place to visit. Especially if you like ghost storytelling

Erinn Byers

Great opportunity for local history buffs, interior design lovers, 19th and 20th century fanatics!

J Dizon

Interesting place to visit, rich with historical facts about and influences of the Victorian era on our current culture, as explained by the tour guide. If you've taken for granted (like me) the history of the ubiquitous Christmas Tree during the Holidays & how it became such an icon of American Christmas tradition, here is a place where one can learn it. I saw it as part of a trolley tour in the evening, showcasing Victorian homes & their Christmas decor. And part of the trolley tour includes a guided tour of the home's interior. However, I recommend seeing it in the day as well (drive-by is OK).

Rob Hallquist

Delicious home made food and friendly staff. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good food.

Dave Oberle

Great job of preserving the past.

Bettyna Duprey

Its beautiful here. Cape May is such a beautiful place to visit. You xan come andbget a tour of Dr. Physick estate. The guide provided so much information. You couldn't help to picture the past, Beautiful house.

Kevin Adams

They serve afternoon tea along with other light entree's, beautiful gardens, friend staff.

Stan Fernandes

This looks like a very nice place, the house is built in a very extravagant Victorian style. Unfortunately it was closed when we were there today because it's the offseason but we would have bought tickets to go inside if we could.

Jeff Fox

Enjoyed the guided tour immensely. The staff is very knowledgeable and make for an immersive experience

Haylee Leonard

Very nice tour of the house. People kept getting in the way of my pictures though. But the house was gorgous but I feel they need a more "exciting" tour guide

Jim Gottshall

Tea lunch very good

Carmen Chan

Combined tour with historic trolley and it was exciting learning about the history of Cape May and its' inhabitants. Had a fun tour with our guide at the Physick estate. A Victorian house that shows the lives of the Physick family. Remodeled and decorated to make it into a museum for visitors. A relaxing tour if you don't know what to do for the afternoon.

Mallisa Matos

Gorgeous home. Amazing tour. Joyce was a very knowledgeable guide. Loved it! Well worth the trip.

Maggie

Fantastic experience!

Bernedette Walser

Very nice place

Heather Speert, RN

It was a nice tour. Love historical sites.

Cheryl Miller

A historical estate ablaze with Christmas! What's not to like. Singing, Santa, elves, a huge Christmas village and a walk back in time. Tree lighting too.

Teresa Noel

The house is great our tour guide was very knowledgeable. The problem came in the way we were herded through. It was a large tour of 22 people so each room was full, the tour guide did his thing then rushed us to the next room. I personally go to museums to see the stuff displayed not to just hear the stories.

Sandei Gittle

Afternoon Tea. Delightful afternoon. Small portions and I had arrived hungry. I loved my dessert. Would definitely go again

Thomas Carrier

Informative relative to the architectural significance and Cape May history. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and had a genuine fondness for the property. Many original artifacts. Well paced tour.

Brandon Parr

Cool spot to visit in cape may. Quite well kept and easy to access.

Phyllis

Great tour, the tour guide was great!

Magohart Management

Oh my words cannot express. You have to go in person.

Kirstin Chapman

Wonderful historic place

Frank Reis

hometown favorite!

Gloria Bostic

I thoroughly enjoyed my tour of the Physick Estate. It was a step back in time like visiting the setting of some of my favorite novels. Our guide carefully described each room, its contents, and how they were used during the life of Emlen Physick, as well as the history of the estate following his death. I highly recommend this tour.

anthony mellilo

Beautiful piece of Jersey history.

Summer Lutz

So beautiful and such an amazing piece of history! They do tours of the inside but buy in advance to hold your spot! The house is HUGE. So much bigger than it looks in pictures plus the entire property holds other houses and pieces of history! It's amazing! A must see if you're in the area!

Tracy Vogt

I love to visit here. Each time is a new, exciting history lesson on the Victorian era. All of the people are extremely knowledgeable about how Dr. Physick and his family lived and played.

Mary Tarallo

The house is beautiful, and having Emily there in costume was very nostalgic. It brought a lot to the whole experience of going through the house and hearing about people's lives and how they lived in Cape May in Victorian times. Cape May is a beautiful city now and it must have been Much More Beautiful then. Quiet street is a real treat now, you don't get that anymore in a small town.

Santos Rodriguez

Great place to learn about the Victorian era

djcrowleyjr

Very nice, had a restful weekend.

Cheryl Ciambotti

Tour is short. Don't try to stay behind to get pictures when they move to the next room. They will hunt you down till you come back to the group and they won't restart the tour till you get there. I bit silly to me. If you want to see every room take the self guided tour.

Quentin Stocum

Very interesting, but not handicap friendly.

Bill Samsonoff

Very interesting home undergoing restoration. Took the guided tour which proved to be excellent

white faced black sheep

Architecture is awesome. The history is astounding. The grounds are beautiful. Many fun activities and events. What more can I say about the Emlen Physick Estate? It's one of the jewels of cape may city to be sure.

Vince Iannace

The night time trolley ride was very relaxing and informative. The narrator was a very nice lady. She was very knowledgeable. She pointed out all the homes that were/are haunted along the ride. She was open to any questions and answered them as best she could. The final destination was the Physick Estate. The house was beautiful. An old Victorian home. Refinished down to every detail as possible. Absolutely beautiful. The furniture and antiques are amazing. The tour was on both floors. We walked through five rooms and told us the history of each room, who's slept there, what it was used for, etc... I am not one who really believes in

liz hawthorne

Awesome place to visit, great food.

Nick T. Borrelli

Coolest place to visit during Halloween and Christmas. The history is amazing and we always have a great time visiting this great landmark.

Mike Coles

The tour guide from MAC did a wonderful job. The house is very detailed. Oh, what it must have been like to visit this house during its golden years.

Marc Pruiksma

Beautiful historic site that offers tours.

HENRY WROBEL

Went in the evening on a ghost tour. Great experience.

Douglas Lindstedt

Wonderful tour! The house is beautiful and full of history! Must see!!

Paula Barney

Anyone visiting Cape May should not miss a tour through the Estate. Beautifully preserved. Beautifully presented.

Jan Valesky

Enjoyed the house and trolley tour. If you love history, you'll love this.

Charles Pierson

Nice tour lots of interesting sites

Radhika Maharaj

One of the most beautiful places, only problem the restaurant was closed, and we were not able to get meals

Debbie tommins

House is set up in the way it would have been in the Victorian Times. Guides very friendly.

Tina S

Took a historic Cape May trolley tour. Wonderful! Staff at house were excellent.

Daniel Weiss

Nice tour during the Christmas tree lighting event. Provides a glimpse into how the wealthy lived years ago.

Dani Ginyard

We enjoyed the guided tour, we just wished we could have gotten to tour the third floor where the other bedrooms are located. Also, we Were not able to enter the cooks room, sewing room nor the room where the ice box was located in with other artifacts as the rooms were closed off at the doorway, once we went up to the 2nd floor we felt "rushed thru". Other than that we enjoyed what we were able too see. Our tour guide was great, I just think 40 minutes is not enough time to tour this whole house.

Yaacov Steinberg

Loved it! Went with my family 8, 17, 19, and my mom. Our tour guide (Carol?), was very knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions that came up during the tour. Only downside is that it was pretty expensive for what we got, even tho it was very interesting ( at least for a family of 4).

Jeffrey Price

Well kept mansion with many interesting stories about Dr. Physick and his family. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative.

Jennifer Deschepper

Loved the tour Carolyn is the best

Anissa Hudson

It was fun seeing this estate and how the people who lived here lived back then. It's a great piece of history.

Katie H

Everyone was super friendly except for one guy who seemed like he needed an afternoon nap hehe. The only reason I give for stars is because the volunteers in each room basiclly just tell you what's in the little book in each room. This and we couldnt figure out where to go to buy tickets but that might have been because the computers were down when we showed up haha. It was super interesting and they've gotten back a lot of the original items in the house! Definitly not an all day activity but the grounds make for a good walk after and a good picnic spot. You'll also see this house on the ghost tour but only the outside. ;)

R G

This was an unexpected treat during our stay in Cape May. Although we did not use the tea house, I recommend the tour.

Ted Raizen

Had tea for four. Nice ambiance, delicious food. All in all, an enjoyable afternoon.

Sara H

While the story and history is great behind this town and this house and this particular family, if you’re looking for spooky and scary this isn’t the one for you. You can walk through the house but the more historically creepy areas are off limits and you are walking through in large groups of people that can be all kinds of distracting. It was a sort of one and some sort of thing. Might not have done it if had a better idea ahead of time.

Kimberly Klunk

Nice tour of the house.

Chris Sanfino

Start of many cape May tours. Interesting first floor tour.

Chillo Rdon

NICE CREEPY HOUSE

Susan Wilson

To the Hops festival today it was a lot of fun, check out their upcoming festivals for the year.

Really beautiful place. It's hard to move when too many people are in at once, but it's still worth the visit.

Mary Ann Hallenborg

Unique seaside Frank Furness mansion. Guides are knowledgeable and gracious.

Priscilla Reim

Disappointed not what the reviews projected

Lorinda Ravo

Very interesting look into life in the Victorian era. Beautifully and lovingly restored home of Dr. Physick. Tour guide was knowledgeable and personable. We also visited the carriage house on the grounds- cute gift store. A bit pricey, but if price supports the upkeep, it's worth it.

al Coburn

Seems like a nice place never went inside only took a bus tour from here

Mark Davis

Wonderful historic site; they hold various festivals throughout the year.

Elizabeth Amabile

Lovely tour of a time gone by. Beautiful home and gift shop, and tea cafe.

Andre Diaz backup

Good

Tour was amazing. Tour guide, Mary, was super. A must see.

Lady Lindsay's Creations

Took the Cape May Trolley tour (Haunted Ghost Tour). Loved the history & spooky stories ❤

Tracy Price

Beautiful home restored by MAC. Been there multiple times and enjoy it every visit.

Tim Speicher

Rocky pathway made wheelchair a bit tougher to push. Accessibility to museum tour required pre- order so they tried to get it prepared but for the hassle we left without a tour.

William Metzler

Beautiful estate and an interesting tour! Lots of history behind it, no need to rush it. Ask to see it all.

Margaret Ross

Enjoyed tour very much.

Beautiful Victorian house with amazing knowledgeable volunteers that greeted us in each room making the visit so much more fulfilling and interesting

Nicole Defebo

First year at crab fest can't wait to go back

Very instructive tour guide. Interesting history.

Dawn Rapko

Enjoyed the events they have Its always a good time, we go to the crab festival.

Carl Aaron

Very nice beautiful building.

Susan Stefanick

Beautiful house, and great tour!

Cathy Nelson

Very dedicated, experienced, and knowledgeable tour guides. Interesting home and tour. Highly recommend combining it with the Historic Cape May trolley tour. Workers in the gift shop could be more informative and less defensive. Where to purchase tickets for trolley tours is not explained well on the website, and less so by the gift shop people. Bottom line...buy tour tickets at the booth at the far end of the Washington Street Mall. Take the tour, take the mansion tour, and take the trolley back to the Mall.

Derrick Wenrich

Very cool place its neat to take the guided tour but seemed a bit rushed for taking pictures very cool place.

Lorri Sword

Fun and quaint place to enjoy!!
