You would probably have to go to Virginia or Gettysburg to find such a concentration of so many civil war artifacts. Many items on Jefferson Davis and his presidency. The courthouse itself is the best artifact to see. I was truly blown away. A must see if you are visiting. Staff is also great. I will definitely be back

The Old Warren County Court House, built in 1858, stands today as Vicksburg’s most historic structure and has hosted such guests and speakers as Jefferson Davis, Ulysses S. Grant, Booker T. Washington, Teddy Roosevelt, and William McKinley. During the Civil War, the building was one of the main targets in Vicksburg. As hard as the Union tried, the building suffered only one major hit. After a 47-day siege, on July 4, 1863, the Stars and Bars were lowered and the Stars and Stripes were raised.

Fantastic Civil War display with a great deal of Vicksburg history. Several other rooms in the old courthouse museum filled with interesting history. Nice gift shop. I purchased a small display box filled with civil war metal objects. The staff took the time to give me a great description of each item. Highly recommend a visit! As a student of history, I can tell you that every generation looks at the past through it's own Kaleidoscope. It's important to preserve all history for future generations. Thank you to the Old Court House Museum for your commitment to this effort!

I'm torn about this review. The building and collection are super cool. I love the story about how the woman who founded it fought the county about them tearing the building down until they gave her the keys. But even this far south in a charming small town, in 2019, I can't get behind a museum that says Jeff Davis's slaves loved him and also that the bad Union soldiers who came South kidnapped the slaves away from their owners against their will. They need to update their interpretation.

Must see if visiting the Vicksburg Battlefield/Historic Vicksburg. Battlefield National Park “museum” itself has nothing (1 small room with a few little artifacts). Old Court house has SO many artifacts and displays, and really helps provide lots of information and understanding in the history for both the Seige and the town. You really cannot get the big picture without going to the Old Courthouse.

Truly a wonderful museum! The staff were friendly and helpful, and the amount of history held in the courthouse is incredible. Admission is $5.00 for adults, and well-worth it. The gift shop was also reasonably priced, containing a hefty amount of Civil War artifacts. I would highly recommend stopping here for anyone who enjoys history.

Great place to visit for confederate memoribilia and definitely learnt a lot. I see a lot of people saying staff were friendly but i dont think we got the same treatment because we were brown and staff probably didnt think we would like the stuff we saw. Well they were wrong. It was super interesting. Dont be scared of guiding us non white folks through your museum homies! I didnt agree with the whole Jefferson Davies slaves and him were bestest buddies routine (you give it a go) but it would have been the propaganda at the time and thats why i think this museum is so interesting. I could not help but think what if the confederates won the war. Would there be a union museum somewhere in New York State? All the best everyone and be kind always no matter what.

Lots of collected artifacts, but offensive exhibits. For example, this quote (reportedly from one of Jefferson Davis' former slaves): "Every colored man he ever owned loved him", and "There was a special relationship between Jefferson Davis and his slaves. He was not only their master, but also their friend." Museum evidently is maintained by descendants, in defense of their ancestors.
