Wasn't sure what to expect, but I was blown away! The museum focuses on Mississippi Natural History, but it has plenty to show and tell. I was fascinated by the variety of fossils discovered throughout the state, and to see the wildlife exhibits. My absolute favorite area were the live animal exhibits. The baby turtles were adorable, the snakes were hypnotizing, and the fishes were awesome! So glad I had the chance to go, and sorry I couldn't spend more time. Can't recommend enough!
Great place to take the kids and learn about nature.
Very clean and informational museum, I thought the combination of live and stuffed creatures was a great mix and my son absolutely loved it!! Will definitely be going back to walk the trails and learn more about our natural history..
Very informative. Wonderful, fun place
My husband and I went today. Thus was the best thing ever. Sweet people. Very clean place.
Great experience for all ages.
Nice afternoon activity. The fish feeding was great fun to watch
Small, but packed with so much interesting information. The trails were beautiful and maintained. Kids and adults will love it
Very nice visit! The aquarium part was very awesome! Loved the walking paths as well :-)
Took 4th grade on field trip, I choose this location annually. Great staff, gave reptile lesson, kids held alligators, snake, turtle, very educational. Interesting displays, loved the aquarium, enjoyed picnic and playground before driving 100 miles home. Great place to visit, very child oriented.
Took my husband (he's NEVER been) and he was amazed and thrilled to see the variety of different species. My children and I have visited many times and absolutely love coming here!
Had more fun here than the new Orleans zoo and aquarium.
Had a good time at this museum! One of the few attractions around Jackson. Loved the exhibitions and their variety. Learned a lot and just enjoyed it. It is good for all ages!
This place was so fun. The exhibits were organized well and I loved the reptiles and aquariums. The nature trails were open and the kids and I took just a short stroll. Museum was very clean and the prices unbeatable. Highly recommend.
This was a pleasant surprise. Here just off one of the busiest streets in Jackson is a really impressive collection of amazing variety. If you're lucky to hit the museum between busloads of field-trippers (can only imagine what 50 fourth graders would add to the serenity level) there's much ny which to ne impressed.
This is an awesome place for adults and kids alike.
I enjoy bringing my nephew, but usually half of the seasonal exhibits are broken. I hate that people are so rough with them.
We had a great time here... we got to see live fish and animals, learn alot about Mississippi's natural habitats and walk in a quiet, peaceful wilderness right outside the doors.... only negative thing I came across, was the play ground, it would have been a huge and amazing place but it is in dire need of some TLC, the play ground is falling apart and could harm a child if not walked closely.
Above all else...ride the frog!
Needs to be updated but you'll have a great time
Knowledgeable staff are always willing to help. They always have a great exhibit going on. They even have a place for kids and adults to learn. Without a doubt this is one of the best places to bring the kids on a rainy. And it’s in the good part of town.
I visited the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science last year and had a great time! It is located close to downtown Jackson, so you don't have to do much driving to get between this attraction and the city's other major points of interest. The museum is in a beautiful location on the banks of the Pearl River, and it is technically a part of LeFleur's Bluff State Park. The state park supports many fun activities in the area surrounding the museum, including some beautiful hiking trails that I enjoyed after seeing the museum. The museum is composed of exhibits covering the long-term natural history of Mississippi and the modern day environment in the state. Some of the exhibits on modern habitats even feature living animals (typically fish and reptiles) that call these habitats home! The museum was well organized and was a fantastic introduction to the nature and natural history of Mississippi. I liked how each of the habitat exhibits featured a map showing exactly where in the state you can find the habitats.
Loved it didn't expect to see a mini Aquarium nice Nature trail too
Excellent museum with a lot of nice exhibits. Not terribly busy in the middle of the week, which was nice.
Wow! I'm so glad we made this part of our summer road trip. Reasonably priced and very fun! The aquarium had all the fish and animals that are native to the Mississippi River and the gulf coast. We were amazed at all the different types there are. The Ripley's Believe It Or Not exhibit was interactive and informative. I definitely feel we left this museum much smarter than when we arrived.
Always a great experience! The staff here obviously enjoy their jobs!
Great exhibits that make you look for lots of items in each one.
Nice science museum, well maintained and organized. Many of the exhibits were interesting and the staff was very nice. Great place to stop and visit!
This is a wonderful place to take your kid(s)! We took our 2 small children (2&4) and they absolutely loved it. Lots of exhibits to look at and plenty of things to touch and learn about. The prices are extremely reasonable and we had a good time. There's a trail that you can walk through, an aquarium area and dinosaur bones. Very clean and safe place. Highly recommend.
Another great place to take the family
Not a large museum but son loves dinosaurs. It was nice, only 6 bucks and featured other extinct animal's..
The kids had a good time. The trails were very limited with a stroller. There are no food options on site. Lots of local fish, gators, and turtles to see.
We love the Natural Science Museum, and our two year old daughter does too! They have lots of live animals (fish, alligators, etc), fossils (dinosaur and otherwise), and fun rotating exhibits to come back for. It's surrounded by a fun playground for the kids and is next door to the Children's Museum, which is also great.
Went to the gift store. The cashier was able to help me find perfect Valentine's gifts for my children.
We always love spendingthe Day at our local museums
We love the Natural Science Museum! They have great exhibits and the admission is reasonable. I enjoyed the Spider Trail.
Great time was had by our 8th graders!
Great ms history..tons of different things to see...grandson really enjoyed it and we did too...
Good place but the building is pretty small
Fun place but a few exhibits were down. Hopefully they will be up and going the next time we come.
Very nice museum with interesting exhibits and a wonderful nature trail behind it. Great for all ages. They do have interesting preschool and younger elementary programs available.
Great for kids a little slow for Adults.
Fun place to go for children and adults. Except for the 2 headed snake! Ha
Great fun for the whole family! We absolutely loved the dino exhibit and learning about the critters native to Mississippi.
Really nice place for the kids and adults alike.
A great place to learn about the history of Mississippi natural science.
One of the best views to the sea, very good museum. Very educational for the kids, and they all had a great time.See the animatronic dinosaurs exhibit while it's here!
The lecture we went to see was sold out, which you don't get told about till after you've paid admission and gone inside. The state natural science museum should be able to do better. Even a handwritten note posted outside would be an improvement. Lecture spaces could be reserved online.
Our campers at our Summer Drama Enrichment Camp, enjoyed their field trip!
We love MMNS! Loads of up close and personal encounters with live fish, turtles, snakes, lizards, frogs, and alligators. Also, a wealth of information about native Mississippi wildlife, and usually some type of special traveling exhibit, as well. An outdoor nature trail is available for good-weather visits. Gift shop offers something for everyone - my kids like the local honey candy and the novelty toys.
Best place in Mississippi for a day of family fun and learning.
This place made my little girl smile super big!!
Love the live animal exhibits
Go to this museum. It's lost of fun. Great history to look at
Really neat place . a lot of must see things
Love taking my kids here. Very nice environment
Helped with our school field trip. Very educational for the kids, and they all had a great time.
My daughter enjoyed everything about it.
The whole family loved it and the price was good.
It was alot of fun
A fun place to visit, particularly for kids ages 5-12. The fish, alligators, and turtles are always fun to watch, and they do have a small play area for younger kids (ages 1-4). One area contains a rotating exhibit that changes a couple times every year. It’s also right next door to the children’s museum, so go to both!
Great family fun.
Fabulous, but I could not find the pilliated woodpecker.
My 6 yo loved the outside dinosaurs. The inside exhibits were as amazing as always. Always love this place.
great exhibits for all ages.
My family and I enjoyed our visit to see the Pangaea display. The dinosaurs were awesome. We will definitely go back to visit again.
Really Cool, the different exhibits had so many really interesting things to look at and lots of intriguing live animals. Also spent almost a half hour in the gift shop because of the cool things there to buy. They make great presents for family and friends.
This was so much fun!!!! Wear closed toe shoes when hiking the paths though, glad my friends son was on my shoulders when we passed by the snake of questionable coloring! It is a trail, and outside, cant be too careful! BUT IT'S GORGEOUS I will definitely be going back to see more! The dinosaurs are a fun touch for more than just the kids too!
It's really great to see a place like this for kids and adults. It's nice!
Very over priced for wht they have to offer!! 10$ for a 2 yr old is ridiculous!! Science Museum is much better and better priced!
I enjoyed this place. We even took a walk on the nature trail. Lots to see.
We have always loved the Museum of Natural Science and we visit fairly often since moving to the metro about 15 years ago. Such a nice way to spend a few hours with your family (even when they're tweens and teens) and maybe learn something new. See the animatronic dinosaurs exhibit while it's here!
Perfect place for kids and adults! A great place to go to get out of the house! Very informational!
Our family enjoyed they excellently curated museum. Creative displays and live creatures on display there. My teens still talk about the two headed snake and the dinosaur bone that the PICKERS found and gave to the museum! Go visit, it’s perfect entertainment on a hot day and the admission is very reasonable!
Great place to spend a rainy afternoon.
Excellent nature trail connecting Mayes Lake area to the Museum of Natural Science, passing by the Pearl River on the way.
Great. Loved it lots of animals
My grandchildren love it
My family and I enjoyed our visit to see the Pangaea display. The dinosaurs were awesome. We will definitely go back to visit again.
We stopped in on our way to Alabama and our kids had a great time! Lots of cool things to see and learn about animals found in Mississippi. Our girls especially loved all the "stuffed" animals they got to see and some they could even touch. The staff was very nice and friendly. They even had out a live turtle and baby alligator for everyone to touch!
A good half day of fun and walking the trails
Very nice place to visit
Really cool museum with a lot of artifacts and history. My daughter, who is 10 years old, loved it! Giant dinosaur bones, reconstruction of habitats, and my personal favorite, the aquarium. Snakes are always creepy but from inside the glass, it was interesting to watch them sunbathe and move around.
It is very clean and nice. My only complaint is that it is not very large. If you take your time, you can see it all in about 3 hours. But, great price, very clean, children friendly, loved it.
My kids loved the aquariums but there wasnt very many animals and was disappointed and I grew up going and having lots of different animals special ones that yall were breeding and trying to save their species but 2019 march we didnt see many alive animals at all and the play place didnt work and the trail and steps was unsafe and I couldn't let my kids go down anymore steps we had to turn around please please help this place it is historic and deserves better treatment especially our natives species thriving and plants from mississippi and our beautiful heritage...
Very educational and exciting. We all enjoyed it.
Great place to go with the family and learn about new things. Almost always something new and exciting and the staff there is usually very knowledgeable and friendly and eager to help. A great way to spend a day with the family.
Really nice place for kids of all ages.
Had a wonderful time ! My wife , our two nieces & myself went March 12 while the kids were out on spring break . Good experience at a very reasonable price & so easy to get to! This is great for Mississippi. The two headed snake was the star of the day as everyone enjoyed seeing it. Staff very friendly & informative!
Great place to look and learn...
Really Cool, the different exhibits had so many really interesting things to look at and lots of intriguing live animals. Also spent almost a half hour in the gift shop because of the cool things there to buy. They make great presents for family and friends.
Going to check out this super cool place...
I really enjoyed visiting this museum. It is great for learning, discovering and exploring. Many of the exhibits are interactive and I feel that I would be a great place to take kids to.
This place is amazing! Our kid loved every part of this place!
If you have an interest in dinosaur and the dinosaur exhibit is still available, this is a must go. There is so much to see about the nature and history of Mississippi. For $6 a person, this attraction is a steal.
Great atmosphere! Awesome staff! Lots of interesting displays and then of course the dinosaur's exhibit is amazing!
We enjoyed it, our 2 year old had a blast.
They sent a diver to feed the fish dressed as santa my kid lost her mind loved the hole visit great place to bring the family
Great events, helpful staff, well maintained displays. Tons of reptiles and fish including a 2 headed snake. Preschool room. Right next to the Children's Museum and a fantastic playground.
Museum was better than expected. Lots of information about the habitat and wildlife of Mississippi. When my sons and I were there, there was a dinosaur exhibit which was really cool. Live like dinosaurs on the outside with sounds and everything plenty of information and activities (may have to check daily schedule). The Aquarium was tho a few of the exhibits were closed. There was a small gift shop with fair prices. Also there is a huge playground right outside of the museum area in which you can enjoy once you've paid to enter the park. If its summer months BRING WATER.
My family and I had a blast !!! And the staff was great!!
Nice the kids park could use a update lots of broken stuff
Took me daughter's. Very educational. Daughter's loved it.
Pretty cool place. There are aquariums, displays, terrariums, and a lot more. Great information. Real cool trails and views. Not a lot of thugs as I suspected being this close to Jackson. Definitely worth a visit. Plan to return.
Fantastic Family outing
No one that works there was all to enthusiastic about being there. They just seemed grumpy. The dinosaurs out front are really cool!
Great place too go for a date or bring the family plenty for everyone too see and nature trails behind the building gift store and very professional and knowledgeable staff
This was a fabulous museum and the trails were awesome recommended A+
The major dinosaur display wasn't set up yet, the walking path had a tree down, but we did enjoy the displays and animals. Staff was friendly.
It was amazing. I really enjoyed it. I go and take my children every time i get the chance.
A great museum for the entire family!
Tons of information, plenty of interactive exhibits, affordable prices. Went here with my fiancee for Valentines Day, we spent all day and learned so much. Really great place. I highly recommend it.
Great museum! This needs to be at the top of your Jackson visit list. Very nice facility with friendly employees. Lots of money and attention went into this building. I personally enjoyed the birds and raptor exhibit the best. Make sure to take advantage of the walking trails if the weather allows. Kids and adults will have plenty to look at in this museum.
My toddler has loved the dinosaur exhibit this summer. She also loves the fish! This museum is a great place to hangout!
I've practically raised my son at this place. The staff is so friendly and eager to share their knowledge. The exhibits are usually interesting and fun for all ages. The events are a blast and are only slightly ruined by the large quantity of people that attend (another testament to their success). We've been a member for years now and will be for many to come!
The facility is excellent with well maintained displays and helpful staff who love what they do. Matt Wagner and his staff gave us a behind the scenes tour and there is a huge collection of the flora and fauna of Mississippi here. Well done!
Fantastic exhibit. The staff was very friendly. It's very easy to get to, with excellent parking. I will definitely be back. Thank you.
This is a really good museum with a great staff. It's a perfect place for field trips.
Nerd's paridise & only $6 entry fee for group of 6 or less per car. Love learning? Love aquariums? Learn about MS in different science aspects. Great low key exercise too.
Brought four children ages 2-4 for an educational, but oh-so fun, couple of hours. We called ahead to schedule a story time. What a treat! Denise, the museum employee, shared books, information and an alligator and snake petting experience. I recommend visiting the museum if you have a natural science buff in your party. An excellent way to spend a day.
Always have an awesome time there! I used to go there with my friends when I was over 18 just because it was so much fun. One time they had a giant blow up velcro wall and he put on a vulgar outfit and jump of as high as you can and gets stuck on the wall. Now I just bring my daughter and she has a a vast experience every chance we get to go and they always getting new things in every time we end up going!
Really awesome stop on our way from MS to FL! Not only did the kids absolutely love it but the adults did as well.
The kids absolutely love it! Only 20 bucks for a family of four too. Not bad.
Really had a great time. They have a wonderful clean facility.
So friendly!! Will be back
Everything I remember as a young adult minus the dark quiet settings
Awesome place for families.
This would be a fun place to visit for families, or just a cool stop if you're in the area. I really liked their displays on mussels, but I wish they would have included more information on the crayfish diversity in Mississippi.
If your hunting something to do with kids in the Jackson area, this is it. We've visited here quite a few times over the years and it's NEVER let us down. The museum is located inside a park, you have to pay to enter the park. The museum has several static displays of animal skeletons, stuffed wildlife and typically has a temporary display. On my last visit one of the staff members brought out a real possum and let it roam the area (indoors). The visitors were allowed to pet the possum. They also have an aquarium hall that has some floor to ceiling aquariums. There are some smaller ones too. Most contain local fish species, some have reptiles like snakes & frogs. On the backside they have an area with alligators and turtles. Then out back there are nature trails you can walk. We always enjoy visiting here and there's something all ages can enjoy & appreciate. They also have a gift shop too. I would recommend this place to others.
From Florida visiting Family and came with my 10 yr old. We really enjoyed it.
We stopped here on our drive back from New Orleans. Pretty fun little museum, right off the highway. It's attached to an adjacent state park with a nice playground and picnic area. Worth a visit!
Fun for kids and adults. Aquarium, two headed snake.
Pretty cool place, loved the animals and the atmosphere. The prehistoric info was really interesting too!
By fat the best museum in Mississippi in my opinion. I've been going ever since I can remember. So nostalgic.
A visit to this museum would be good learning experience for kids!
Very cool place!
Lots of fun for both kids and adults
Had the best time here with my family from Oregon! Thank you for the treasured memories ♡
Amazing prices, great exhibits, fun times for all ages. It was great for me to see the different environments and local natural history, as I didn't grow up here.
Great place for kids
Been hundreds of times and still every time learn some new.
We enjoyed our visit.
We had a great family day here. This is a nice facility with cool exhibits.

I personally enjoyed the birds and raptor exhibit the best. Make sure to take advantage of the walking trails if the weather allows. Kids and adults will have plenty to look at in this museum.
Excellent size for children; enough to maintain interest without being exhausting. The staff were very kind and engaging to our four year old. There were plenty of things to hold interest and it was relatively cheap at around sixteen dollars for two adults and a child .
A must visit for a family outing when in Jackson area, especially if you have school age children and very cost efficient
Fun and very beautiful place
A great place for nature hiking and lots of cool animals
My toddler has loved the dinosaur exhibit this summer. She also loves the fish! This museum is a great place to hangout!
We love going here when we have a chance.
This was such a great place to go. We drove 2 hours and it was so worth it!!! There is so much here to see! My kids even loved it, and they are hard to please
Great place!
We went twice recently while traveling. They had the best dino exhibit and the preschool room is adorable.
Kids loved it. Very cool and educational!
Mediocre at best.
Great educational place with traveling exhibits. The MS wildlife section is always a hit with turtles, alligators, hard and giant catfish. You cant forget the snakes! There are awesome walking trails through out the back.
Fantastic museum with a fantastic staff!
I've practically raised my son at this place. The staff is so friendly and eager to share their knowledge. The exhibits are usually interesting and fun for all ages. Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is a very nice fairly newly built museum. It has nice exhibits and great customer service. Their only downside is they moved from a property with free parking to a property located on state park land thereby driving up the price of admission. If you have some money to burn and want to take the kids or yourself somewhere educational and fun then its a great place worth visiting.
Fantastic place! Aquariums, terrariums, and a timeline of animals from Mississippi. Lots of facts presented in a very interesting manner. Nature trails were also very interesting. Lots of interactive areas for kids as young pre school.
A wonderful place for the family to enjoy a day out.
So interactive and fun for the whole family. Prices were reasonable for tickets!
Great place to visit in Jackson. Very affordable, family of 3 visited for under $20. Plenty of exhibits to see. Kept my 11 year old and myself engaged. They have a small aquarium section with some disc I have never seen before. At the time we visited there was also a Ripley exhibit. There was a section for toddlers that looked really fun. I definitely recommend stopping by.
