Nice family spot
Best place to camp in and around Jackson Mississippi.
Several nice small lakes and cypress sloughs. Lots of wildlife. Very easy access from Lakeland Dr. (Mayes Lakes entrance) Nice open shaded areas for picnics. Trail connects to the Natural History Museum and boat slips to the Pearl River.
Super great place for the kids to play and learn with really nice people. We will definitely be back!!
We really like it here, but bugs we're so bad you couldn't get out of RV w/o being attacked. bugs were not an issuethe other times we have been here. Has water & elec, dump station. It is by the water. So most sites are water view. fairly easy to get to off I-55. Has a good sized bath house.never used it. BH is upstairs kind of steep.
Nice place not really set up for large rigs.
Nice park, but kinda busy and noisy. At night a nearby rock quarry or gravel company ran loud machines. It is right by the city though and very convenient. The nature trail is nice and you can walk about a old to visit the museums and epic playground. We saw lots of cool birds (egrets & herons) plus a single small alligator.
Enjoyed my day
We enjoyed the parks' natural beauty.
Peacefull
Nothing wrong with the park itself, nice small place, the main reason I gave 3 stars is due to the amount of snakes ive seen and others talk about there, found 5 dead snakes there in one day, and due to snakes and possibly gators,,, pets not allowed on the walking trail.. but now other than that it was a nice place really
State Park 9 hole golf course very reasonable.
Bathroom girl little dirty very nice people met a rock and roll star good fishing good time
Fun for the kids. A lot of learning.
It's pretty nice if you overlook the bathrooms. Bathrooms are ok if you are not overly modest.
It's a fantastic place to go and enjoy your day! My boyfriend and I decided to have a picnic here, and the place was very well maintained with very nice staff. It also has a playground and is right nest to the natural science museum and the children's museum, so it is a great place to go for fun for the family!
Absolutely loved this site!!! We came in really late. It was convenient to have the tablet to check in to see if there were any spots open. The bathrooms were huge! Not sure about the laundry machines. The view is beautiful. Strange place to have a state park since it was in the middle of the city. Would so stay there again.
Great quiet, shady campground. Country feel tucked away right in the middle of the city. Gated, safe area
Bathrooms were pretty clean. Place seems pretty well kept all around. Trails are pretty pleasant on a nice day. Very pretty park.
For you nature freaks or people looking for a breath of fresh air look no further this park is really beautiful and a sight to behold especially the ponds and small lakes it looks surreal you wouldn't think it's located in Jackson also for you out of staters they have a RV section so you can stay there the night or two also it is very quiet and peaceful a good place to get a run in in the city one of the must go if you're stopping by also most necessary is off in the spring and mandatory in the summer you will be eaten alive out there overall awesome place to go to
Bathrooms clean, breathing taking views, can’t believe you are in a major city with campgrounds like this. The park manager Carl is wonderful. very friendly non pretentious campers....
Clean, beautiful scenery, I just dont like that the play areas had sand in them
Nice and clean
This park is absolutely gorgous! We stayed here one night on our way back from Grand Canyon National Park. We were SUPER disappointed that we only had one night. The campground was splendid. We were right on the water and watched dear wading in the water in the evening. We had a Crane that kept landing in our site to fish. It was simple stunning. We WILL BE BACK and next time we plan to stay longer. There is so much to do at this park. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it. It had cement pads with electric and water hookup. Had to empty our sewage in the dump station on the way out!
Amazing
Took my 3 year old to the curious George exhibit and we had the best time. We went extremely early so there weren't many people yet. Loved it
Its just so peaceful
Alligator's in the water but nice place lady in the office very rude
This is a wonderful place to take the family. Indoor and outdoor exhibits you can see.
Beautiful park with scenic views. Nice walking/hiking trails, also.
Very nice park. Basic and clean. Loved it being right off the interstate but couldn't tell it was so close to interstate and downtown Jackson MS
Nice park. We have our family reunion there
It was nice
Great for gators
If the baths were cleaner & washer & dryer worked, it would have been perfect.
Great pkace to take the kids. Beautiful, updated play area.
I just visited to hike and look at birds, and it was amazing. Great wildlife right within reach of the city. The trail system connects to the Natural History museum and the Pearl River. Really beautiful lakes, sloughs, bayous, etc. Fantastic birding location!
A great place for family children museum and much more.
Awesome place to camp whether it's in a hammock, tent or camper! Showers and a washer are available but the drier doesn't work. Primitive camping is available and includes showers. The back 9 for the disc golf course is here and well marked. I think some variations can be made to throw a full 18 at this spot but be careful, thick in spots. Overall, fun course!
If your from Jackson or just passing through and haven't been you really should check it out it's a really beautiful place and you can bring your RV and your spend some time there
Excellent place to go
This is by far my most favorite place to be. I would live there if I was able. It's so calm and peaceful and plenty of playgrounds and places for my kids to play.
A place to get away from the city without having to drive for hrs is a plus in my book anytime...and from what I understand it was the beginning of what Jackson is today...great scenery and my lil guy had plenty of stuff to sniff out...was wondering why the trails don't loop or join up some how and the picnic area could sure use some work ...fine looking play area and the community shelters look like fun with a large gathering
This my husbands and my get away. Very calming and relaxing.
Really nice place, quite, right on a lake
Great place to visit!
Beautiful state park in Jackson, MS. we saw a baby alligator in the lake near our camper. The bathroom/showers they were okay. Overall, the park is small, quiet, and beautiful. I recommend visiting.
Great place to go birding. Nice trails and a reasonable admission price.
Stayed here in the campground one night. The staff was rude and inconsiderate. Also on site 20 a person lives there in a camper that looks like something from a horror film. It also smell like straight sewage and there is a little puppy that stays chained up there. Why are people allowed to live in a state park like that. On top of everything else this park offers no sewer at the site so how can one live here? Mississippi clean this campground and stop allowing long term stays. The bathhouse needs alot of help and the staff needs some customer service classes.
Sites are large and have concrete pads to park camper with nice view of the lake!
Really enjoyed camping here. Laid back. Great for families. Nice trails! Good tent camping spots where some parks are overgrown and downright pathetic. These were nicely kept up. We would go again.
My classmates and I held our homecoming tailgate party at this park. It was very nice, scenic, and accommodating. We were able to have our seafood boil and enjoy one another's company without any issues. I highly recommend!
great place to visit for the day or camping. good fishing and a near by golf course with a good layout and a fun par three to finish . We enjoyed the camp fire at night and the friendly people who were traveling from Florida .
Friendly and clean. Showers and laundry. Close to town and only $16 bucks a night! Thanks Mississippi!
We had a great time the kiddos enjoyed them selves
This park is absolutely gorgous!
Beautiful place. Recommended.
This is a great facility for all ages. Outside fun, Natural Science museum and the Children's museum.
Serene, quiet spot for a stop over.
Precious worker at the gate!!!!!!! But..Gnats where so bad we couldn't enjoy fishing.. even after bug spray. They also have weeds and water plants around the pond grown up so bad, your fishing line gets caught every single time! Not even worth 4 dollars!
Picnic tables and a big play ground. And large green spaces. Plus two museums if you need to be indoors. The natural history museum also has hiking trails in the back
Beautiful park and very clean. Best I have seen in Mississippi . Will stay again soon
My sons favorite place to play at. Not to much commotion & many things to play on.
Nice little museum. The Ripley's exhibit was interesting and my niece loved the fish.
I love the nature trail. If you're looking to play disc golf, I would go somewhere else. The baskets are hard to find as are the tee boxes.
Awesome park with a great museum too!
Amazing park to camp. I personally stayed on my way to vegas from miami. I arrived at around 8 am on a monday. They were very quick and polite to set me up with a tent site. The price was decent. This park id beautiful it has hiking trails and great views of the lake. I felt very safe the whole night. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Highly recommend.
Nice campground, dated but adequate restroom and showers. However there are NO signs telling you that the pond/lake has Gators!....rather large ones and most sites are right on the water. We told several people camping around us that had dogs and they had no idea. So don't leave rover tied out at night, he may not be there in the morning
Had a great weekend. No place to swim but we had fun fishing ! Staff was very helpful
It's a great place to take younger kids. My niece and nephews love it. My only complaint is that every time we visit, there seems to be signs on exhibits that are in need of repairs or needs attention of some kind. The tickets are very affordable and great for groups.
If you can, pay the extra and stay at the RV sites along the river. Absolutely stunning!
Very nice place! We enjoyed it and will definitely go back!
Nice place
Great views of the river
Lovely campground. Nearly every site had water views. Park is well equipped with year round showers, toilets, garbage disposal, and RV dump station. Beautifully treed.
Favorite place to take the kids
A great place to go fishing and enjoy the outdoors
Enjoyed my stay very quite place to camp close to Jackson
A hidden gem inside of Jackson. Great place for an afternoon stroll.
Was ok. Thankfully did not use their bathroom, needs some updating but enjoyed our stay. Bugs were not too bad even though there was swampy water all around. The workers are really friendly and it is conveniently located close to Jackson.
Good time. Recommend
Serene setting
Nice park, very resonable
Cheap fun for the family
Great local State Park, my son and I took 2 of his sons to fish. Grounds are well maintained, very inexpensive way to have a great day outdoors.
Pretty place right outside of the city.
No maps or information as to where the fising lake is. When we did find it there was a small gator and we had children and a small dog, needless to say we didn't last long there. It was okay but nothing in my book to write home about. Looks like they are more for large crowds then RVs.
Beautiful here! I highly recommend spending a day in this area
Clean, well maintained, recycled tires for ground covering (brilliant for shock absorption), lots of diversity in park activities. Clean bathrooms. My only complaint is they could use more water fountains! This is Mississippi and it's humid, which is the most polite phrase for drinking my oxygen that I can come up with!
Great experience will be comeing back. Great price.
Excellent park for the kiddos. I had my son second birthday there. It make you feel safe with the co pay and security guards. Its a Big hugs park to explore ful day of play time.
Love to go fishing
Fun to visit..6 yr old climbed up to t and sai I can see the world!! Friendly staff!
Love the playground area. It is nice and can accommodate lots of children. They do need more picnic seating though. Large groups will struggle to find seating. Or, other people will have trouble finding seating if there is a large group.
Very nice place to walk in shade around thr lake and play on the small playground. Would be nice if there were more biking trails as we have small kids and I didn't really want them on the roads, even with 15mph speed limit. Nice boat ramps to Pearl River. $4 entrance with vehicle. $.50 each person if on foot or bike. Can park at the ballpark next door. Quiet in general and a fair number of folks using the pavilions and camping facilities but not overcrowded on a Saturday. It's great to have this place right in Jackson. They also have trails to the museum area which may allow walking access to the bigger playground and picnic areas there. Will check it out next time. Thanks!
The workers where professionals it was a wonderful & informative experience
Great place to camp
Good for lots of greenery and kids play
Wonderful state park for all ages, I wish I had more time here. Had a wonderful short hike into the swamplands....
Wonderful park and campground. Highly rated ...roomy and lovely lake to look out onto.
What a wonderful place! Truly a hidden gem in Jackson! Clean and peaceful!
Very pretty place
We camped there for 3 nights and it was nice and peaceful. Lots of bird watching and fishing. We hiked the nature trail about 3.4 miles long from campground to the museum and back. Not a bad hike with stairs getting you up the river bluffs
Nice spot to take a break from driving
Love the museum of science. It's a wonderful day trip for families and the traveling exhibits have all been great. Mississippi has several good museums and this is one of them.
Great fishing spot with camp ground but very peacful
Very nice place to go camping. We had a good time
Had a wonderful time with my daughter!! She love see all of it.
My lil man loved it
Campsite on the water was large, efficient, great price and beautifully quiet. Bathrooms were functional but not amazing. Everyone was super friendly as well and dining options nearby were wonderful. Definitely worth a return stay for longer.
Great environment
Camped for the weekend. Site 17 is wonderful. Double pad so plenty of space. You can hear road noise, but its really not bad. Easy to get to. Would definitely camp here again. Also posted a pic of site 19 and the bath house.
Golden Orb Silk Weavers displayed massive webs on both sides of the nature trail, after a hot August hike it was great to find clean well maintained bathrooms. As we left we noticed Frisbee golf baskets we will be ready for next visit.
Nice clean good hook ups other than highway noise quite. Very peaceful
A neat little park to spend some time with the family...
Pleasantly surprised. Great hospitality in a quiet setting.
This place has a huge playground and a really nice museum of nature and science.
We stayed there for 2 nights each in April on our way to and from louisiana. Nice bathhouse and very scenic for being located in a city. Many of the sites are on the water and the park is gated with keypad entry, Pleasant staff at check in booth. Star rating is based on comparison with other state parks we have visited.
So refreshing, enjoyed this little gem. Great view of the lake, amenities and no mosquitoes!!!!
Great place to take the family for a fun day! Great for kids, teens, and adults. Covered picnic areas and swings with lots of room to run. The Natural Science Museum is a great hands-on exhibits and friendly staff. GREAT for field trips! The Mississippi Children's Museum is next door and has TONS of great interactive exhibits.
We are members at the Science Museum because our children love it as a rainy day outing! Truly a great place to play. We especially love the aquarium.
Good Place
Great place to fish, and relax!!
Such a beautiful place to be no noise off the big city just pure peace with Mother Nature
Great place for kids to play and teach them about nature. I taught my son how to fish here. You do have to pay for a day pass though.
Beautiful scenery. Kids loved the museum.
Great natural science museum. Trails are okay but admittedly didn't explore much... Apparent that the trails don't receive much use but could be a good place to get your outdoors fix in the city .
Excellent security , plenty picnic space .
Great $4 entry fee.
Well run
Great views and quiet sites. Full hook ups minus sewer. But they do have a station on the way out. If you can, get a site on the water. Beautiful!
Great for a family reunion
Fun children's jungle gym. Clean bathroom facility. Fun day with grandsons and My Baby. Oh NO...
My wife and I took our 2 year old, we've been a few times before but this was different. The first few times we went the shear joy and excitement my son had, rapidly bouncing from place to place was enough to make anyone dizzy. This time he took the time to experience each and absorb the lessons intended at each station or module. Really great place to take a child to open their minds and perspective.
Nice park, great location. Dont miss the nearby Crawdad Hole.
Nice clean quite.
Great quiet place. Clean grounds. Lovely scenery the electric works fine the water works fine great leveled spots has picnic table and Grill knot on top of each other when you're camping the only negative was in the woman's bathroom there's two showers but the one shower has no knob and has a hole in the floor so it is not used so you only have one working shower the plus side is the bathroom was clean and the showers were hot. I would go again.
This is real camping; I loved it in that respect. There are no stuffy rules about "your tent spot, and only with a reservation a year in advance." You go, park your car, and pitch your tent; as it should be in the United States. The bath house got messy and several things, including the plumbing, did not work well, but the campground was also packed full for the holiday weekend. This campground, however, due to the staff, is not friendly to women traveling alone. The park rangers have the wrong idea about why a woman camps alone, because, God forbid, it couldn't be because she is actually passing through on her way home. The park itself is beautiful, but it borders the highway, where cars race the entire night, not to mention police sirens and ambulances do their fair share of breaking the silence. Bring lots of mosquito repellent, this park is on the water, and the mosquitos are hungry.
Enjoyed the facility during the 2019 Bankston - Hulitt Family Reunion!
A beautiful gem.
Beautiful area in Jackson.
It was quite nice! We were 6 people tenting at the primitive area and we were free to put up our tents everywhere we liked in that area. We found a really nice big spot close to the lake, even though we were told that there was some pretty big Alligators living there, they have never had a incident with alligator VS human on land. There was a big fire pit and lots of branches lying around, that we were more than welcome to use. But the down side to this campground has to be, that the toilets / washrooms are located all the way over at the rv camping, so there was a long way for everyone needing to go to the bathroom, especially in the middle of the night.
Beautiful campground, nice clean bathrooms, friendly staff. Wish the kiosk checkin was easier to use to gain entry after hours but it worked out eventually.
We went to the museums and play area here. Still haven't been to the state park area on the other side but I've loved everything else so far.
Need to be fix up The grass on the trail is over grown
Great place close to home
Great trails for kids.
Really nice place i remember when it was nothing but a few dirt roads out there
Delicious and family oriented!
Greatest place to spend your family time! Get there early! The Mississippi Childern's Museum (MCM) is a great place for fun learning. There are four differant museums in all and can be visited for $10.00
Its a nice local state park
Fascinating history of Mississippi area, from prehistoric to present. Great terrariums and aquariums. Outdoor nature walks. I, personally, was wowed by the size differences between present day bison and prehistoric giant bison!
Fun times good fishing and a great place to take the family
One of my favorite places to fish and kayak! So many amenities with natural beauty. My favorite place in Jackson
Review based on the RV camping area. Ok place for a layover, but needs better upkeep. Washer&dryer were missing. Mens shower area had rodent droppings all over the bench and floor. Rest of the park seemed nice and better maintained.
Very nice atmosphere. Despite the horrible road conditions and massive potholes everywhere GEEEZZ. The grounds and park areas were well maintained. Enjoyed the museums. Very reasonably priced. Family memberships quite inexpensive compared to DFW. That's not surprising considering the vast cost of living difference. Certainly a must when visiting Jackson, MS.
Great RELAXING park for the whole family.
