REVIEWS OF The Witch House at Salem IN Massachusetts

Nancy Novak

Very interesting history, good tour. Gardens awesome. About 2 hrs total. Have to be able to do stairs. Helpful staff. Not for little kids.

Allen Schroedel

If you are into history of any kind this is a place to visit. This town is so rich with history. I will be making a second trip to return soon

April Crider

I visit here several times a year when traveling from the Midwest to Salem MA. Love the history and architecture!

Chris B

Interesting to see how early Americans Lived. Must go to

maryellen duren

Enjoyed our trip, very informative and enjoyable. The staff were friendly and inviting. It’s small but none the less definitely worth the trip!

Thalia Chand

Pretty cool quick little stop.

Sarah Leonard

Very nicely laid out with historic relics to look at and read about. Staff was super nice

Nicholas Mertens

Quick thing to do but does give a lot of interesting information about the Witch Trials. A must do for Salem as it is the only original building related to the Trials that still stands within Salem itself.

Owen Cole

Cool. Bucket list item. Check.

Kyle Rumbaugh

Should be your first stop to set the mood for Salem very cool and lost of history

Patrick Rosinski

Had a lot of interesting things to look at inside the house.

Dawn

It was a little smaller than I thought, tiny bit expensive for such a short tour. Even though it's called the witch house, it has absolutely nothing to do with witchcraft or the witch trials. Named the witch house because of it's look and it stuck.

luis chacon

I really enjoyed the spoking feeling in this place.

Heather

Best thing to see in Salem. Most attractions are campy and very touristy. This was one of the real few historical spots. Was kinda expensive for only viewing a couple rooms. I wish the rest of the house was avaible to see.

g oChristopher Gessling

This attraction is well worth your time!

Andy Medina Ortiz

So expensive and is not a real museum, is better if you walk the city instead of visit this place

Kevin McPeak

This place was wicked cool. Get it? Cause it’s like witches and New England? Whatever. But it was neat.

Emily I

Interesting little house with some cool history and artifacts.

Lindsey Graham

It is very cool. They do not have a public bathroom and charge a fee to get in. This tour would take maybe 30 minutes if you really looked at everything. The door I'm standing in front of is not the entrance, the entrance is around back but they have signs to make it easy there is also a gift shop located inside.

ellen comstock

Salem is fascinating. The history of this place is interesting and bewildering. So much horror for no real reason.

Rosa LaMattina

Very cool! Awesome to see actual artifacts from that time and walk the house and see the rooms and set up. Would have been better to have a tour guide or someone explaining what things are they had people in there telling you where to start and end but could have been more informative other then reading little plaques next to things!

Katie Stuempfle

I love that this museum is housed in a historical building. That adds lots of charm. This museum is more about the general time period during the witch trials. If you want to learn about the trials then head to the Witch museum, a little hokey but has a lot of info. The Witch House is small but fascinating, definitely worth the trip if anyone is interested in history, or medical history.

Shelby Miller

It was awesome! So much history

Kyle Greig

Definitely worth the entrance fee! Not kitschy or fake like some other attractions in the area, but a true historic building where real stuff happened. Was able to tour it at our leisure, and knowledgeable staff on hand to answer any questions we had. A small gift shop (of course) but with some great items we hadn't seen elsewhere.

Yvonne Colache

It's kind of expensive for a self guided tour. The home only consisted of abot 3 rooms. It should be called the witch judge house, it's not a witches house.

Brian Tashjian

This is a self guided tour throughout the house. They have signs posted many places explaining various history and events

Natalie Taormina

The only standing building left that is directly linked to the trials. A must do. A sense of spooky ran through that house.

Mellissa Rowe

Very somber and quiet. Great reading and study. Very nice ladies working there. They definitely knew their stuff and were helpful.

Shane Manzo

Small museum gives a quick look into life in the period

Clint Henderson

I drive by there almost everyday and still never been there before.

April Clark

great historic place for a week day in season, long wait if you go weekends in season and I cant say it is worth it for the way you are rushed through, the wait time and the crowds you share the walk through with.

Charles Comber

Awesome experience! Learned a ton of new things and even brought a few fun gifts home. My cat loves his witch house cat nip :)

Joralis Gomez

Love it ❣️ The only original building

Stella Taug

Original in every detail....Superiors attraction in Salem. This historic home of Judge Jonathan Corwin is the best for seeing the history of 1642, allowing close-up viewing in each room. Wonderfully staffed ....with friendly docents.

Hector Sanchez

Just learning the history was amazing.

E. Mayo

Didn't go in,,the line was too long. If you go in October expect a VERY large crowd!

David W. Vire

glad they built something. They are working hard to sell something that no longer exists. Not a single structure or location is intact.

Jasmine F.

Enjoy the fun but keep your mind focused on the history. Be mindful

kath

Interesting history, spooky house. The staff was amazing, but the house was old and dirty. It was a fantastic trip

James Ferris

Incredible to see. I recommend as a must see if you're touring Salem.

Jonathan Garcia

Cool spot to check out. Self guided tour no longer than 20 minutes

Sandy Rohn

I am so in love with the Witches House and everything inside!!! It's Amazing!!

Deniz Bulut Ture

One of the highlights of Salem historic tour. It gives a good perspective on living conditions during the 17th Century. One of the very few museums/tours with a direct and authentic link to Salem Witch trials. It is very close to central Salem, just a short walk from the main touristy streets.

Tabitha Alford

Great site to see if you are in Salem. It is in the only structure/house still standing with direct ties to the Salem Witch trials. There are some great displays throughout the house and all are explained with in-depth history. They have a cute gift shop as well. It is a small place, so it can get kind of crowded when you're trying to take your time to see and read everything, but definitely worth the visit.

SGP Versluis

Small but beautifull historic site. Must see when in Salem, because the witches and all

Phuong Trieu

A lot of reading but worth it! Super nice people to help answer your questions in each room.

Bianca S

Very nice historical house. Me and my husband had a great time looking at the house and items with in it. It's a self guided tour and worth it if you find yourself in Salem.

Chelsea S

Historical accuracy, tour at your own pace

Daniel Dussia

So cool!! Can't wait to come back!

Chris Chalmers

Nice, except that the employee at the ticket counter was unable to give us a refund on the extra ticket that was sold to us accidentally. Not that they don't give refunds, she just wasn't trained on how to do it, and couldn't get anyone else to do it for her.

Matthew Biscardi

Great history throughout the house to get a sense of what was going on during that time period. Went by ourselves and then as part of a tour later in the day. Definitely would recommend going with a tour to get a more in depth description of everything

Heelow

Nice place to visit, kinda expensive for small area you are allowed to walk through

Clayton Wile

Cool place, great for the history of Salem. I prefer this over some of the more "touristy" joints.

Shey Doucet

Self guided tour. The people who worked there were so busy, that you couldn't really ask much questions. The house is cool, but if you have saw other "old" houses, you've saw them all.

James Wilson

Very friendly and interesting place for learning additional history of the Witch Trials of Salem and how the early settlers lived in the Americas. Additional information available at the customer service desk. Books, pamphlets, and prints.

Jacqueline Treml

Self guided tour that was fascinating for all! It was very manageable in terms of the information offered and gave us a helpful glimpse into life in the 1600s. We liked that we went to this museum before our walking tour to give us more context. Allow at least 30 minutes for this museum.

Jareth Graves

The inaptly named Witch House has it's only ties to the Salem Witch Trials as being the home of Judge Jonathan Corwin. No one from the home was ever accused of being a witch. However, as the only structure still standing today that is related to the witch trials, it is an important piece of history. The rooms are laid out with authentic and replica pieces to demonstrate what colonial life was like. It is a nice little museum, and worthy of a visit to see how things used to be.

Bethany Broderick

Small little shop when you first walk in. I paid in cash but I can't remember if it was because that's all they accepted, or it's just what I chose to do. Some really old furniture and house fixtures, with plaques having accurate information about the witch trials and the beliefs in and around herbs etc. Lots of questions for introspection.

Carla Klein

The best I've seen in town so far!!!

UsKnuckleheads

Really cool piece of history and at an affordable/reasonable price of admission.

Rattlesnake Gross

Very cool place to visit, but the information is more about the life of Jonathan Corwin, as opposed to about the Witch Trials.

Elizabeth Florek

This was such a cool little tour. Amazing to see how they lived and their belongings. I highly suggest stopping here

Kathy Lee Futchko

Was a awsome tour and would do it again in a heart beat. Worth the money.

SoilentGr33n

Incredibly nice and knowledgeable, passionate staff. One of the few attractions in Salem that is historically relevant to the trials, and treats them as the tragedy they were, instead of some garish set piece for your Halloween fantasies.

Tonya H

You should definitely not miss this!

G Gonzalez

Reasonably priced self tour of historical house.

Alexander Schnarr

Arrived too early, so it was closed. Ok. We hadn't really the urge to wait and just walked through Salem.

Joao Martinez

Ehhhh! The outside is more exciting than the inside so beware

DEANA JENNINGS

Great history love the "feel " of the old house

Gina Girt

Great self guided experience with friendly knowledgeable staff available for questions. A look back into history to see how the wealthy lived 320 years ago. Definitely worth the entrance fee, we asked for a student discount for our college age kids. Interesting gift shop. A unique experience.

Steve Flynn

Fabulous day and great history in Salem ❣️

Nikolaus Odermatt

Very interesting historical site to visit, offers an audio tour!

Paul McArtor

Good quick place to visit.

Kay Powell

This house shows the history of the witch trials and reveals what it was like to live during those times. Very cool place!

Regina Young

Very interesting. Love this place.

Dennis Errichiello

Unreal when you think about how old this place is. The exposed original wall cross section was so neat to see.

Michael

I dont know maybe it's because I have lived in Salem before but attractions like this seem too overpriced to make it worthwhile. The house itself is small and not really much to see. Better just taking pictures outside and reading the info available for free

Darrell Uding

Easily the best way to learn the history of witch trials.

Leann Eddingsaas

Everyone working here was so knowledgeable and friendly. Learned some interesting info that we didn't hear anywhere else. Worth the admin fee.

Brooke Johnson

I loved this place. So much history and so much to learn! Definitely was something Inhave wanted to see for years and I was not disappointed!

Lance Opperude

So cool..lots of history

Michaela Moreschi

Neat old house. Self tour through the house. $1 off for students w/ ID. Can get crowded quickly.

Christina

Was disappointed to be honest. Looked at the outside, but chose not to pay for the tour.

Kyle Perlich

If you're into that, then you would enjoy it.

Ross Antisdel

Informative. A decent self guided tour. A little dark and hard to read all the banners. Was a little pricey for what it was but not horribly so

Wendy Bendickson

So much fun♡ love the history!

D. H

Pretty cool little pricy for what it is but the money goes into the house wich being historicle is a huge bonus. Pretty cool though if your a history buff.

David M

Small museum but good story. No real artifacts, but the show is worth the money.

Mary Kennedy

The Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. The home is preserved wonderfully. Loved loved loved my visit. Can't wait to go back

Sheff Brisbin

Ka-reeep-e but super cool. Take any of the historical tours. They all have the same info. It's fairly well documented.

Brittany W.

This was one of my favorite adventures on our trip! There’s so much American history in this house and it is definitely a must when planning a trip to Ma. There is a small fee to enter the house and took us about 45 minutes to an hour to tour. We lingered for much longer since it wasn’t that packed and the staff were very knowledgeable with the rich history here. There are no restrooms in the attraction and they ask everyone to turn the flash on their phones off.

Kenny

It was okay. The historical significance the house represented was good and educational. It's a house preserved and decorated to the times of the witch trial period. Not too much else to see though..

Laura Gilbert

I really enjoyed this museum. Very interesting history and well set up. They have some history on the witch trials, but it is more about about life during that time period, which I feel is appropriate considering this is where one of the judges lived, not actually where anything to do with the trials actually occurred. Well worth the time and money - it doesn’t feel gimmicky like the other witch museums look.

Janna Hill

This review is for the witch house at Salem in Salem Massachusetts. The witch house at Salem sits on a corner lot is an average-sized home, I suppose it was considered to be an ample or even large home for that time period. The the witch house at Salem can be toured independently or with a use of a guide. I love everything about Salem Massachusetts so I would recommended you see as much as you can see during your visit.

Don Kinney

It was OK. Pricey for what you got. I wish they would update their displays and focus more on the specific family...not the times. Might make it a lot more informative and worth the price.

Nianadevenir Haiowine

Oldest standing structure from the witch trials era. No guided tours, but the signage, items, and house tell the story. Definately fascinating and creepy. Went in mid October. There was a line to get into the house and it was a bit crowded. Parking was reasonable. Wait time reasonable. Customer service was reasonable. The 5 star review is for the unique and unmatched atmosphere. For $10.50, you can have a historical and first hand look at this haunting era.

Reila Z

This is the best, historical museum about the witch trials. This house was the home of the presiding judge. The employee on the first floor in the stove room was extremely friendly and explained to us some neat carvings on the chests and stairs as protection from witches. Her knowledge is amazing and if you are interested in history you will not be disappointed.

Gary Beckmann

Fascinating look at a dark chapter in our history. The expository cards are a bit rumpled and faded.

John Harratt

Historical site. Well preserved and beautiful location.

Anne Boucher

It was nice, but it would have been perfect with an automatic-guided-speaker thingy. There was a LOT to read and I'm a slow reader.

Patricia Romero

I enjoyed the self tour, I got to look around and admire every corner of it. Highly recommend. Worth the small entrance fee.

Madhusudan Suryanarayanan

Well preserved piece of history. The entry fee is a bit high could have more guides or an audio description for some parts of the house.

Totally.Nicki

Amazing place to go to honestly had so much fun and the museum is so affordable

Domenic Cassidy

Was just nostalgic really cool clean always better to go in the beginning of October or the end of September before Salem looks like Manhattan on New year's Eve.

Bryan Perry

Pretty cool spot that just breathes history. Lots of information inside that gives you a idea about what life was like duing the witch trials.

Priscilla Tufano

Love historical places, this was amazing, and staff was friendly and helpful! Definitely recommend it

Eric B.

The best part was the architecture of the house. The "museum" was not that great, nothing terribly interesting. Won't take long to walk thru, so if you just really have to go, just go and take 30 minutes and do it. But if you miss it, you're alright, don't stress out about it. Even just taking pictures from the outside to just say you were there is probably ok. Was ok overall, would not go back tho.

DUBS

Very small but fill of history and witchy stuff. All artifacts are real. Even better the courteous staff are informative and knowledgable! 5/5

Maria Mock

If you only pay to enter one house/attraction in Salem, this is the one. It's the only structure still standing with direct ties to the Witch Trials, and much of the original floors, beams and furniture are original unlike some other places in Salem. The staff was informative and friendly even with the chaos of Halloween time in Salem. Definitely recommend!

Corissa Snelick

Great self guided tour. Home of one of the judges of the Salem Witch Trials. Built in the 1600s. A must see in Salem!

Sage Lewis

This house is very cool. But I had just seen the Paul Revere House the day before and they have a lot of similar characteristics. That said, I learned a lot about the witch trials in this house. I would totally recommend a visit.

Ronald DeLano

Spooky but informative and interesting.

springb329

We did the self guided tour. Probably would have learned more with a guide but we were in a hurry. Pretty cool stuff in here.

Iris Mama

I loved this little museum. Great exhibits and excellent signage explaining what you're looking a It really feels like you've stepped back in time.

Bradley Conn

Lots of history here. Great place to visit. Salem is a beautiful town. I'm betting it would be awesome to see at Halloween time.

ryan allen

It was vary fun it wasn't vary wichy but it gave you a peak of how they lived there lives

Michael Flowitt

The witch house in Salem. The house is great and the town charming and wonderful many restaurants and a great place to park and wander the many local little shops. The theme to the town is everywhere and if you are a fan of witches magic and fantasy it is a must to visit

Chris Dowgin

Elizabeth who runs it is a sweetheart and gives you amazing insight in the Witch Hysteria. Did you know those who were hanging the women were alchemist who dabbled in demonology? Some were follows of John Dee. Beautiful house with brick fireplaces and great old wood.

Stephanie Najar

Very cute, I enjoyed the history of it all. The stairs are very narrow and steep to get up, so if you have bad knees or anything beware. I did however feel more of the history upstairs!

Kelly Kramer

Loved stopping here and getting a picture in front of the house. We didnt stop in and do the tour because of a time crunch but very good location in Salem and located close to a parking lot!

Favi Lopez

Great knowledgeable and friendly staff. Pretty interesting things to see.

Alexis Smith

HANDS DOWN the best experience I had in Salem. Judith was our guide inside the house and she was so amazing and SO knowledgeable about the era and events that happened. If you go and she is there you NEED to sit and talk with her. She showed us some cool things in the house that the normal eye wont be able to spot out. The education about witches in the house was awesome too. I would go to this twice before going back to the Salem witch museum.

Lila Lewis

This is a self-guided tour, so you have the freedom to linger with the items you find most interesting. There are knowledgeable employees available to answer any questions you may have, but the quality of the answers will depend on who is working at the time. The freedom of the self-guided tour allows you to feel like you’re stepping back in time, but you could easily miss some very interesting items if you don’t pay attention.

Barry Heckman

Great experience! Guides were very helpful and honest with any questions we had. I highly recommend stopping by.

Hatairat Ketavanan

Historical house that was actual home in 16th century. House condition is well preserved. Inside there are stories of witch trials.

Max62004

The attraction requires you to guide yourself with staff in most rooms, the items were somewhat interesting but I was left bored without someone to point out the really interesting parts of this house.

Sandra DeSantis

Self guided tour, with not much to see. Cool to take photos of from the outside.
