REVIEWS OF Lexington Common National Historic Site IN Massachusetts

Johnathan Farrington

Really pretty, peaceful green space. An amazing history and some cool memorials. Definitely a necessity to check out, there isn't actually much information as to the history on it there. But there are several museums around about various aspects of the history of Lexington and Concord.

Sandi McCarthy

Beautiful site and so historical. Well worth the visit. Would strongly suggest taking the Trolley Tour from Concord. Authentically dressed tour guide from the Revolutionary period who gives an excellent, and sometimes humorous, report on the actual events of the beginning of the Revolutionary War. Learn actual facts never revealed in History books.

John Cisetti

Free street parking. An inspiring, historic location. The first U.S. war memorial.

Ernest Kyed

Great place to think about and remember those who sacrificed to form a great country.

John Barry

Was ok. Would have been nice to see some enactment or short film.

Neal Mackey

Very well done and promotes learning about our countries roots

Joseph Meacham

Very cool, very reverent place. Not a lot to see, but knowing and learning about what happened there was very cool. And the people in the gift shops are friendly and kind. We had an awesome discussion about the history of the place with them. If you come here make sure you see the Old Belfry replica up the hill!

paul lazenby

Great history here from the revolutionary war. There is also a great bike trail from here to Concord following the same route the British marched in the Revolutionary War. Today it is simply a beautiful shaded walk or ride through a beautiful part of the state.

Daniel Skywalker

Great place to learn about our countries past.

Janice Keating

Interesting stop on our bus tour. Bus tour guide gave us educational information needed.

Noson Fontenot

Outstanding- so much history. Learned so much never taught in school. Really puts a different spin on it when standing in the spot where men died for freedom. The shape of our nation now would disgust them.

Bruce Caisse

This is a lovely green with a few monuments memorializing the Battle of Lexington where the minutemen of the area stood against the greatest empire of the world in their resolve to live as free men.

Richard McClelland

Wonderful historic site, guided tours of the grounds, no fee. Buckman Tavern has a great self guided audio tour. The staff are very knowledgeable about their town and passionate about sharing it. A place everyone should see.

sachin sachdeva

Origin of America's birth location with the lot of History behind

Rebekah Elkins

So much emotion and history! We parked behind the depot at a lot; only $4 for the day. It took us a full day (9 to 5) to see everything and tour the three buildings. There are more signs down near Monroe Tavern that we didn't get to see. Words cannot express how much we enjoyed it! The guides and staff were incredible. There wasn't a crowd and the weather was spot-on. For those on a tight schedule, I would definitely recommend allotting a full-day to exploring Lexington. Its truly a life-changing experience.

Sudip bandyopadhyay

Fantastic place

Sándor Bokor

A great place to take a walk, walk your dog, jog etc

Gregg Robinson

What can I say? It's part of our history. Take your kids and go experience it.

Dan Alexander

I finally woke up at 4am to see the April reenactment. I had a great time. Fortunately a local told me where to park. I would have rated it higher had there been available more information about the activities that occur after or later in the day. All-in-all, I do recommend visiting this place at any time of year. Local shopping and eateries are the quality one would expect from a New England town where the average house price is well north of 1 million dollars.

Denise Strauss

Wonderful downtown location with fabulous history.

Kendall Schneider

Easy to visit for you history buffs. Lorts of shops near by for you shoppers!

alexander grant

commemorating the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. these were the first battles of the American Revolutionary War on April 19, 1775.

Greg Cutler

Amazing Historical location.....

Albert Bodt

I am originally from Holland, having lived in this country for the last 58 years. My parents had lived through the war in Europe only 11 years before immigrating to this country. I have an abiding interest in American history, so when I attended a medical board review conference in Boston (Copley Place) in October of 1997, I took the opportunity, after the conference to tour the Lexington, Concord area and later, Walden Pond. My family had come on the trip, including my mother (dad stayed home). We went to Lexington and I was immediately moved by what to me is almost holy ground. My mother, felt the same and when she read the names of the patriots who are interred on the edge of the green, she began to cry, as did I as we were so emotionally overcome by being on the spot where just over 222 years before, the American Revolution had started it military phase. I was amazed at how close the ranks of British and American combatants were to one another. We toured the Clark Parsonage where Paul Revere had come to warn John Hancock and Sam Adams of the impending threat to arrest them, observed the drum used to muster the Minutemen to arms on the early morning of April 19, 1775. I met an Air Force colonel while in the Men's Room at the visitors center, next Buckman's Tavern and we got into a conversation about Paul Revere's (as well as Dawe's and Prescott's) ride. It was nearly an hour and a half before we finished talking. Buckman's Tavern was fascinating as many of the Minute Men spent several hours there before they were mustered on to the green around 4:30 in the morning. A musket ball hole can still be seen in the ceiling where an accidental discharge of someones musket or squirrel fire-lock. I will be back.

Kurien Manavalan

History well preserved

Candace Gregorian

This is all about history. The day I visited was during a blustery snow squall. Parking is ok on a day like that but much more difficult during the tourist season. There are bike paths available . Many restaurant choices as well. Shopping g is more of the boutique style.

Shannon F

Pretty landscape. Well taken care of history. Friendly and helpful people abound. Parking was a bit hard.

Dan O'Brien

Nicely kept area. Good fit little kids to run around in.

Larry H

Location was easy to find and have nice parking spots. The statues and its history are great lessons for children and adults. The nearby visitor center has souvenir and information brochures.

Larry L Sr.

Nice gathering place for the locals.

Vasyl Pominov

A historical place and tourist attraction. Neat and nicely kept. Plenty of parking in around area.

Amy J

Being from the West coast, I do not often have the roots of our country so clearly displayed. It was a far more emotional experience than I expected, especially in this time when we once again seem to be at a crossroads of defining ourselves as United States citizens.

Deborah Swan

So glad we finally visited.

M Keen

Lovely place. They keep the bus service infrequent to keep away the riff-raff, which may include me given the looks I recieved for existing in their beautiful town. Watch out for red coats.

ricky goldsmith

Grounds are kept very well

Nathan Cragun

We went in the off season, so a lot of the sites were closed around here, but the park was pretty, and the monument to "The shot heard round the world" was really nice. The visitors center is open year round and the ranger in the station was very helpful and friendly.

Alan Argollo

Great place to walk around ,meditate and visit!

Stephanie Staszak

Was annoyed there were no indications on the green where the action happened. Would have bee helpful of there was a sign- Patriots formed here. Or a map of the area and what happened out on the green so if the building is closed you could still get a feel for what happened

Rachel Hyatt

Such great people. A very fun and enthralling retelling of events that happened here. The house is really quite neat. We were really glad we stopped off here. Hope to go back some day just to recreate this special trip. Plus they give you this cool postcard.

Nice historical site! History is great!

Sridhar Chilimuri

It is historically very important and beautifully kept. It is very small area for a liesurely walk.

William Fulton

The "shot heard round the world" was fired from this location on April 19, 1775 to begin the American Revolutionary War. Just a small park in a small town in Massachusetts, but the site of an indelible moment in history. This well kept triangular field is a nice large open space but somehow feels so small to be the site of the first skirmish with the British so long ago. This location is family friendly and well lit even at night.

yodaplaysrandom123

Arlene Onorato

Best place ever.

Soozin

A very historical place and well worth the visit. Guided tour of this small park are the best. You'll learn about the "shot heard round the world." Some of the houses adjacent to the park hold history and stories which are fascinating.

Jon Wilcox

We had an amazing volunteer who gave an excellent explanation for the Lexington Commons.

Christopher Graham

Absolutely, incredible to walk on this hallowed ground. The Lexington green is the site upon which the first shots of the Revolution War were exchanged on April 19, 1775 as the British regulars advanced on Concord to destroy rebel munitions. The walk around the park is short with plaques denoting points of interest including the site of the town belfry used to alert the militiamen of the advance as well as a burial ground for remains of some of the 8 Americans who died that morning. Tour the Buckmans Tavern and try to catch their exhibit #alarmed metaphorically linking the communications our founding fathers (and mothers) used to spread the word of the "bloody massacre" and the social platforms we use today.

Brooke Snow

We loved visiting Lexington and seeing the historical sites. Very great way to learn more about America's history!

Debbie Boo Pate

Fun History tour.

Allen Todd

On the morning of April 19, 1776, after receiving word from Paul Revere that 700 British soldiers were marching to Concord to seize weapons. At dawn on the morning of the 19th about 77 militia men met about 400 British Soldiers, shot rang out, thus beginning the American Revolution. Today the Lexington Green is a well-manicured park in the heart of Lexington, MA. There are several monuments dedicated to the brave patriots who stood up to tyranny. Across the street is Buckman’s Tavern where the Militia had gathered the night before awaiting the British arrival.

James Toczyl

Patriots day is historic there.
