Its one of the best place in boston to rome about.
Harvard Square is a unique place where you can see people from around the world and enjoy street shows. not even in piccadilly circus in london we see something like this. even the circus oxford season with big brands. It is located in the heart of Cambridge and has many restaurants, cafes, and ice cream shops to enjoy nearby. It is a good place for walking or biking. The T-Station is nearby, so you can use the bus or train at your convenience. There is an information and convenience store at the center. You can also get a tour of the area offered by Harvard students. A must to check out if in the area. Bonus trivia: the scene with Matt Damon where he was talking to his girlfriend in Good Will Hunting was filmed on a table here!
Awesome place, lots of bookstores, Greta places to eat and even comic book shops
Love it I'm from Boston but cambridge has an eclectic vibe like no other area
I'm always excited each time I'm at Harvard square. I see tourists from all over the world. The atmosphere is serene, and it has a lovely ambience.
Having read the Globe article about the SQ being in rebuild mode, I meet up with a childhood from Huron Ave. His daughters loved the Park behind the Kennedy School. All the places we loved to eat at in the SQ except for Charlies Kitchen were gone. Though the new places were interesting enough, he had kids and I was in a mood for a steak. Bye Unos (I think). We decamped to the Diner in East Watertown, all were happily fed. But looking at all thats gone and all that's new, its clear the SQ is growing a new skin and will continue to excite and entice. Looking forward to the new beast.
One of the best people watching places, but traffic can be a problem
The newly built Smith Center is a must see for alums. Wish we had this when I was here.
Tons of people to watch. Wonderful stores. Co op bookstore best non fiction science book selection.
Harvard is absolutely a must see location while visiting Boston. There's a lot of history (take a local guide). The biggest academic library in the world is also located there.
Someone earlier summed it up just fine... there are so many options in Harvard Square, it really would be difficult to find something you didn't like. Restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, ice cream shops, book stores, places for shopping, and spots for sightseeing make this a great spot for anyone visiting. With great and convenient access to the T Station, this was one of the highlights of our trip visiting Boston. The vibe of everyone around was great; lots of people young and old, families and college kids, couples and people riding solo. Harvard Square has something for everyone. Definitely recommended!
If you have a couple days to explore Boston most the stops on the red line north of the city, including Harvard, are great.
I like people nice,a beautiful places
The famed Harvard square. Legend has it you might be able to spot one or two Harvard going pupils if you're kindhearted.
Love Harvard Square lots of people from everywhere plenty of stores and food in the area.
Clean and spacious You feel the intelligence in the air :D
Impressive feature at the heart of the Uni. Great history
Harvard Square is nothing of what it once was. People nowadays have absolutely no idea of the character, charm, style, intellect and excitement that once soaked Harvard Square in an era gone by. Sadly I see the stark leftovers of a once vibrant spot. Its like witnessing the scorching destruction of a golden empire with nothing left but the ashes. I feel bad for the Harvard students who are paying a fortune for tuition and Harvard Square is little more than a ghetto these days.
It's getting trendy, but you can still find classic places.
Harvard Square is a great place to checkout if your visiting from out of town. The shops, eatery's and live street performers make it a must to visit. If your local then your probably annoyed by the tourist and I'm sorry. There is construction around a few of the areas I walked. Come and enjoy.
Such an iconic place to tour. It was wonderful.
My husband and I found our own guided tour that we could do on our phone! We enjoyed checking it out! We went across the sreet to buy our kids some Harvard tee shirts at the book store!
Nice college vibe .. lots of eating choices. Good place to hang out for the evening.
Great tour led by students if that's what you are looking for as a place to go to after higschools/colleges
Wonderful place to walk and explore. A lot of history
Lively place. With lot of students and student friendly restaurants.
Right in middle of Cambridge, a very happening part of the town. Lot of options to eat, explore and easily accesible from various parts of the campus. Overall priced higher than average
It's a fun walk with cute and unique shops. Heck you can find the only Curious George store here! There's something for everyone and plenty of people watching. If you drive be prepared to pay to park, but it's worth it to really get out and experience the vibe of the square. Don't forget to visit Tate Bakery, they never disappoint!
Cultural hub. Very hip and hipster. Give generously to panhandlers
Nice place for a walk and meet friends. Nice restaurants are there for food. Evenings are more lively.
Many restaurants, clothing and small grocery shops are available around here. Being central place of city buses and trains goes to various parts of Massachusetts leaves from here.
A little touristy but a nice place to relax, lots of shade and great grass and benches. The libraries are only available to students and faculty.
The Harvard university is there..Boston has a wonderful history as well as other universities and a tourist area.
Too much traffic real estate mogals buying buildings and rendering them abandoned. The charm is gone
Touristy vibes, coffee places and cafes, street music whenever I've been there. The Harvard book store is great place to check out. Quite a bustling place in the evenings.
Good hang out spot, but many of the stores are closing due to high rent prices
Cultural junction of Harvard University which has changed over years... I had seen it 25 years back and it was quite vibrant.. when I visited last week, the old city, cultural charm was missing.. there are more shops etc..
I'm around the station weekly... Historic University I haven't been there yet I hear it's nice but around the station if you don't mind riff Raff. Bums pan handlers etc is the norm
Always fun to visit. A variety of retail shops, museums, and dining possibilities. Street parking can be a minor miracle. Otherwise prepare to open your wallet and park in a commercial lot.
I feel the crowd there, a obviously place to visit. Though parking is congested and full, but better to roam around.
I visited a friend during the Summer of 2017 and loved the buzz around Harvard Square. The public transit system is amazing but doesn’t deter people from walking, jogging or cycling. Crema Cafe (sadly closed its doors in Harvard Square) had the best pastries and beverages.
So beautiful! Awesome views, fun shops. Had a great time exploring.
Always nice to walk away from the traffic. Almost always crowded and they don't have enough place to seat and relax.
This place is really neat. The Harvard campus is beautiful. Very serene and tranquil. Then right outside the campus walls the surrounding square is bustling. It's a neat area to visit and you can take the subway directly there from downtown.
The grounds were quite shabby. I get it. They put durable chairs all over the place for sitting in the fresh air, reading, conversing, debating...but can they rotate the crop a little by rolling & reseeding whole areas for beauty and aesthetic comfort? Winter is coming. Impress me.
I had a walk there afternoon, nice atmosphere and suitable for having group dinner or even just taking a cup of coffee. I liked the historic architecture of the buildings. Nice place for a walk or touring on a bike which one can rent from couple of spots there.
I live in Vermont. Whenever I want to see, do, experience, or eat anything cool, I go to Harvard Square, among other Boston attractions. This visit I went to Milk Bar, Christina Tosi’s bakery. Is drive two hours just for the Crack Pie(sorry, it will always be Crack Pie to me). Amazing bakery, with amazing confections. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Harvard Sq., mainly it's a institution. (pun intended). Not based solely on John Harvard himself who isn't the person standing for the founder's statue in the yard. But, it's the unique form of cultural individualism. Vast array of personality in general. From eateries, workshops, sidewalk cafe's, clothing, literature, music, colors, churches, major historical sites, and a well mainained public common with equally entertaining contributions.
Harvard Square is a great tourist attraction... or was? And might be again? It's hard to categorize this historical square as so many local favorites have closed, moved, or been bought out in the last year alone. Us with all the construction it can be hard to navigate what is actually open. Still, there are a ton of great places to get dinner and a drink (longfellow, Alden and Harlow, Park, and several others). This may not be a tourist destination like it had been, but it's still great for food and drink!
good vibes here and near by Charles river you can definitely take some nice pictures around there favorite place to me in Boston
Free audio guide on Harvard’s website. Very useful and interesting.

Love this place. All the shops and food are a great mix.
Best (and maybe only?) public bathroom in Harvard Square.
Amazing place with multiple stores and area to hangout. It is a must see for visitors and tourists alike. Make sure to checkout Milk Bar and the Harvard Library.
Vintage looking, old school (literally). Lots of food options and fun places to hangout.
You have visit the area; to appreciate all the local art, history, musician & group tours on New England. You must try various culinary cuisine before you Massachusetts (especially the N.E. Clam Chowder & Seafood there is to offer palate
Found some interesting architecture here. Probably the least crowded place I went to in Boston.
Hustle and bustle place with seating areas for people watching. Not very scenic. Businesses keep closing down leading to a lot of empty storefronts
Historical place, has to be seen to fathom it's importance for humans of all races.
Gotta go to Harvard Square! Are you kidding me? It's an historic academic landmark!
I love how people sit on real estate and Jack up the rents so only big name stores that you've already seen everywhere can afford to move in. Used to have 10 book shopes and 3 movie theaters.
Fun! Clean. Nice shopping places. Plenty of restaurants near. Everyone is friendly!!
Very scenic an historic area. Plenty of shops and restaurants, lot of good people watching
Bookshops, coffee shops, restaurants, bars and subway access make this a great place to meet old - and new - friends for a catch up session.
Always great to be in Harvard Square! So much to do and see: history, shopping, restaurants, listening to the buskers, or just people watching.
Don’t know why they consider it as a tourist spot. Went there at the summer with my family. Very crowded barely found a parking. Trash smell was everywhere. Homeless everywhere. Underground was very old, dirty, and scary. Nothing much to see. Very bad experience.
Very crowded. Good otherwise
You have to experience the awesome vibe you feel when walking through the Harvard square. Lots of restaurants to try and places to explore.
It's Harvard Square folks! No reviews needed. Let's get smart shall we.
Really cool, interesting and a nice place to ride, shop, and eat. Any other parts of Cambridge gets old very fast. Full of tourists
Great historic buildings and not too many visitors during the summer vacation.

Loved walking around the area and seeing everything. Worth a visit!
I Love it around here, lots of tourists, and plenty of places to visit and eat!
Vibrant area year round with diverse visitors (students, tourists, local residents, and commuters), always a joy to just walk around and visit the book shops, the food options are very good. The lighting could be better.
Some nice stores. However it was very crowded and each block cars are fighting to pass through with pedestrians, not safe and not worth it. However if you are here the Ramen was quite good.
It’s a square with some historic buildings nearby: it’s nice, but I wasn’t particularly impressed.
Great place to visit , the history of this area will amaze you.
Great place to hang out and enjoy the ambience
Trying to pawk Yar car in th Hahvah yawd? This is the place. Stop by and rub the foot of the statue, then take a pic of the house where Washington stayed, and finish by shopping at the coop!
A definite must see if you're visiting the Boston area. There's no shortage of sights to see while walking around the area. Tons of great little shops and food and coffee!
Vibrant location with lots happening. Very touristy spot! Definitely need to see this spot if you're in the area.
Fun place. Nice restaurants in the area
Very nice campus. A lot of tourism all year round apparently.
This was a really fun experience...tne clisrst I'll ever get to Harvard! LOL!
There was a guy playing the guitar while I sat there for a couple hours enjoying a cup of coffee
Harvard square is the center of the world. Main campus of Harvard university is located there. Many fine stores are located around it. The Brattle theater is located near there. There is nice cafeteria named Algeria’s at Brattle theater. During the summer, street jugglers make shows in the evenings. There are always some street musicians play at this place. During the Hot summer days, the Harvard yard is the place to get some breezing air. I always enjoyed and walk around the square leisurely.
Fun place to spend a few hours when visiting Boston. Lots of history here. Buildings are awesome, there's even an old cemetery near by.
Very cool neighborhood in Boston. Very lively.
It's hard to believe you're so close to Harvard and smart people when they cross right in front of you against the light
Good meeting point near the Harvard campus. Spent time here when I was up for the Game. A number of interesting restaurants and shops. Can either take a train or walk to Porter and Davis Square.
For such a scenic tourist area, there remains a lot to be desired vis-à-vis bike lanes and pedestrian zones.
Nice tour from college student who was informative. Clean campus just kind of busy
Beautiful and enjoyable during sunny days. Is perfect for Harvard and photography lovers.
Such a fun place to shop. Super enjoyed ice cream at Licks. Yum!
Nice place to go for a walk... good to take pictures and meet new people
Harvard Square is definitely not the same of 20 years ago, when I was there for the first time to deliver a paper. I had been noticing that the charme of the place of the bon pain had been changing, but nothing like this visit in 2019! The square looks a little abandoned and ragged. If the city doesn’t take care of the square, maybe Harvard University could adopt it, and revamp it: after all, it carry the University label. I’ll come back no matter what. It’s part time of my academic life. If you go, be aware. Choose a time with bunch of students; they hide these facts, and students are beautiful life.
To find a great place to park, you need to have patience.
In a joint space with the milk - it is an ingenious creation where people will inevitably want sweets after a savory meal. The pizza dough is very chewy and savory - the toppings were also very interesting. Would recommend the shrimp!
Was nice to just go walk around and see the buildings structure
Love strolling around. So many great restaurants; check out Santouka and SWEETGREEN. The shops are really cute and fun to look at as well!
Harvard square is not what it used to be. It's very touristy now and all chain stores. If you're visiting Boston you really have to go just because you can go see the university and what not. But having known Harvard square back even after its heyday in the 60s but still when it was still cool or sort of cool in the 80s I have to say that it now kind of stinks.
It's a beutiful campus and u can just walk around and enjoy the scenery
Hustle and bustle. Worth seeing once as a tourist item or if curious. Mostly for those that may live or have friends or relatives living in the area.
Nice place to hang out, atmosphere is vibrant. Lot of activity all day long. Good restaurants and cafes
Lots to do and see. Many food and drink stops at reasonable prices. Easy to get to by bus.
It's not exactly a square but it's definitely in Harvard University. You can really feel that the place is nearly half a millennium old. Not much to do, but lots to see. Recommend taking the guided tour. Avoid the place if it's graduation day and there's VIPs present as they tighten security to a ludicrous degree.
Fun, historical and interesting place to play Aussie! WALKABOUT! Some neat stores to go thru and restaurants to try. The COOP Is quite the adventure to roam as probably among the best top 10 bookstores in the country. If you're lucky you might catch an author or open discussion. Really a most pleasant way to spend a few hours time outdoors safely and wheel chair accessable.
Love to come here. When I have guests I always bring them here. It's nice crowded.
Beautiful place to visit for a pleasant walk. When you're just bored at home, come here to get the feel of nature. There are plenty restaurants you can try in this vicinity. Usually there are amazing street shows during the weekends. It's a pretty huge campus with well furnished and planned architecture.
Feels quite unamerican! Loved it!
It is a nice little square right next to the famed Harvard Campus as the name suggests. It is full of historic architecture, restaurant's and nice little shops. Plus, the Charles River is extremely close by. My reccomended places to eat are Flat Patties, Santouka Ramen, Takemura, and Falafel Corner. Other than that do use caution when venturing out at night, there are some shady characters around. Just use your streetsmarts and you'll be fine, bit other than that it is a nice place to visit and get a good walk in.
Awesome place. Really trendy and perfect for students. Love this place.
Was looking for another choice as ate in one of these the day before but couldn’t resist going back and again food was absolutely so delicious and coffee good too! I visit Harvard Square often, as it has a number of wonderful and diverse type of restaurants for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just drinks and appetizers. Also lots of shopping and site seeing, especially with Harvard University right there...as well as a number of museums.
If you visit Harvard do take the Harvard tour Lots of great eating options around the Harvard square
Harvard Square this is where we went at for graduation for Ashland I really had a great time I would do it again in the second I don't mind flying on the airplane what my girl Bridget is really scared had a great time again I'll do it again in a minute friendly courteous people
Beautiful place complete with chairs to encourage people to sit and relax or Converse.
Steps from one of the finest educational institutions anywhere accessing the T line too
Great place to visit was there for our sons graduation
Great place to wander around. Good bakeries. Coffee shops. Bookstores. Events.
Did the Harvard tour, is really amazing. The school is shown by one of the students and they provide with good insight and very good information about the school, their culture and history. Had a great experience and will definitely recommend it.
Very busy and nice place where you can get lost, easily.
Nice and attractive place to visit if you are in Boston area. You can get red line to come here. Parking is a problem here but there are couple of lots where you can find parking. Don’t forget to visit Cambridge Common also. There are plenty of nice places to eat around and few guided tour as well if you like
Fun place. Being rebuilt. Cant wait to see when its done.
Great place to visit while in Boston. You get to experience Harvard student atmosphere. Lots of different food options around.
One of the best squares in Cambridge if you don't mind college students everywhere. Possibly the worst otherwise. The MBTA station is a mess whenever it's under construction (which is always). No signage whatsoever to help you find your connection. Good luck.
Excellent vibe! Great place to hang out!
Fun collegiate vibe. Quite busy
Lively and happening place in Cambridge, right in front of the Harvard university. Commute by public transit is highly recommended due to traffic
Really cool private tour with a lovely lady telling us about the history of Harvard in a fun and compelling way
As the smartest man living or dead, Harvard was a very interesting place to meet people who are relatively close to being my intellectual equal. Because of my intellect, I was asked serveral engaging questions by both students and professors, such as "Why are you naked?" And "Where are your clothes?" Such a wonderful area!
Exclusive square from the ones I know. Wonderful! This is about Harvard only. You will find souvenirs here, get to know how I park my car at the Harvard Square". Authentic urban village ,historic and vibrant. Visit the Battle Street, Massachusetts State House and the University itself.
Went to one of my fave stores at garage mall that's been there since I was a kid. Finally made a new purchase after years and it's all the more special knowing it's from that shop~ also saw this beautiful wall painting( I know what it really is)
It must stop for anyone visiting Boston. One of the most historic institutions in the country
Nice place to visit with top ranked universities around. It is very busy with few shops and restaurants. The souvenir shops are very expensive you can find the same stuff much cheaper near the common wealth park
A place people go because of its historic significance. Have good places to eat. See Harvard University.
Stimulating and fun with much improved eating options.
Very interesting architecture. I think it was a welcoming day for students as well since you could see freshmen partying and having activities in their campus. Looks quite interesting with a britishesque architecture and a lot of parks and trees.
Beautiful campus. Take the HAHVARD tour...its a good history lesson on the campus. Tours take place every 30 minutes and are led by a current Harvard student.
This part of Cambridge always has a lot of good energy. There's a bunch of quick stop food and drink places that are great to pop into. And with the new addition of Milk Bar and &pizza there's even more options. It's super convenient to get to on the Red Line trains, and has a really chill, college atmosphere with all the university students hanging around.
Cool historic and quaint shops. Nice area to sit outside on the patio either to have a cup of coffee or listen to live music.
Awesome place, vibrant with the energy of the knowledge being learnt and the wisdom accumulated on the history of the old buildings. Amazing to be able to experience something like this.
Great hang out place, lots of restaurants, easly accesible from train and bus, busy, good atmosphere in general
There are so many things to do and see here. If you are here try Ottos Pizza; you won’t regret it. Be warned traffic is pretty heavy in the area and crossing isn’t always the easiest so be safe out there.
Great shops and restaurants but parking is tough to find.
There are many nice spots all over the district but this is the heart of it. Major subway and bus station nearby makes your life easier to reach here and go somewhere else. I am still discovering many nice spots near the square. No need to mention Harvard University nearby and Harvard Coop Bookstore in the square among other goodies. I visit Harvard Square often, as it has a number of wonderful and diverse type of restaurants for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just drinks and appetizers. Also lots of shopping and site seeing, especially with Harvard University right there...as well as a number of museums.
Great place for spending some time.it has its old charm with Harvard close by
Great place with a lot of different people from all over the world.
Nice little town walk around they have so many restaurants and harvard yard and Cambridge common yard to see and walk around and its full of amazing lighting and people.
For those wanting an engaging and immersion experience of Harvard university at reasonable prices , no better place than the Harvard square hotel. Perfect location with the Harvard Coop and all other landmarks nearby . Post a multi million dollar renovation and personal involvement of the Hotel Boss and a courteous and helpful staff , the hotel should be any visitors first choice .
Great to see so many young students.
It's beautiful and busy place, i met very very kindly bus driver there
It was lots of fun to see the campus life. Coffee, food and souvenirs available. They also had free tours of Harvard led by students that was interesting.
This is where the magic happens. All the good bad and ugly that Cambridge has to offer are on display here. For traffic gets gummed up with tourists are lunch time so maybe venture out after 2pm
Beautiful campus. Check out the hall right outside the gates with the stained glass windows. Almost felt bad for the college kids just trying to get to class against the traffic of tourists. Nice walk to or from MIT on a pleasant day. One of the worlds most respected academic locales.
Great place to people watch. So walk among some of the brightest people on earth. Grab a bite to eat. Or do some shopping.
If you're going here, you already know what's up. Touristy goodness, but a little quieter than full-on Boston.
