REVIEWS OF Washington Monument IN Maryland

Matthew Ferguson

Even though the Monument was closed and you couldn't get any closer than the fence surrounding it, it was still a neat place to visit. Talked to some of the people local to D.C. and learned some fun facts about the monument and also how they use the nearby grass areas to host kickball leagues.

JJ

Great place to take in the sights and sounds from around the Nations capitol with views in all directions. I enjoy relaxing at this monument.

Paul Onderwater

The monument can be seem from so many places around the Washington Mall area. The best view is from the top of the monument. Go early in the day to get your tickets from Park Services. If you are in town more than a few days, try and go up during different times of the day, as the light can make everything you see look so different. Enjoy the experience of learning about the monument and all it holds when you get there!

Sheshes S.

Go! If you Love History... don't wait 50 years to go & walk the area, like I did!

Heather P

The park was clean and safe, path ways were clear of trip hazards. Easy to access with street parking.

Melani Morelli

Great place to visit. An absolute must for everyone! A piece of history. I cannot imagine how anyone could give this less than 5 stars. It's amazing, and 10 stars in my book!

Meghann McKay

Such an amazing place to honor our first President. A great stop on any family vacation that focuses on American history.

Steve Glass

You've got to see it right? And there's only one place to do that. The area in general is just wonderful to visit.

Sakina Hussain

One of the most magnificent monument in US. History. Too crowded & finding parking is always hectic but please go see this and experience one of the most iconic monuments in DC.

Henry Smith

Invokes a sense of pride and peace when you are onsite.

Ron White

Love seeing the reminder of such a principled man coming across the bridge in the morning.

Sam Katz

Great place to visit. Very beautiful there were also many good food trucks around. Sadly I was not able to go to the top but it was still very cool. If you ever want a good picture spot go to the Lincoln reflecting memorial better during the day as flash isn’t allowed.

R Haywood

A great tourist destination and place to spend a few hours or the day. The monument is also an amazing backdrop to many festivals and celebrations through the year. A definite must when visiting the Nations capital.

Envizion Photography

This entire area amazes me more each time that I see it. Each of the memorials are paralyzing when one considers the actual sacrafice made by each on the field. Many will never return home to us but all should be saluted and regarded in the same way that celebrities are. No greater love has a man than one who will lay down his life for a friend nor one who will do it for a stranger.

Aarish Khan

Amazing piece of architecture and symbol of Washington. As famous as the White House.

Andrew Bolton

This is one of the top ten monuments in Washington. Amazing that it was all built with bricks and very interesting to see the color change caused by the halt in work before completion. This can be viewed from so many places but the best view is to walk down the wide mall.

Paranormal Society

Place was closed when we were here last but when we did go a couple of years ago the place is amazing and give you a look at this beautiful capital of America.

Nivea Nanda

I have been in DC for over 2 years now and I find time to go to the monument. I love the beautifully manicured picnic areas. day or night, it's a must visit.

Roy Nelson

A great place visit and have fun and create wonderful memories

Rianna Raines

It was gorgeous but hate how quickly the tickets sell out. Definitely recommend going early. They start giving out tickets at 8:30 am

Alex Gerashchenko

Definitely check for Reno schedule. We did not get to go up as it was closed for visitors. Looks good from outside.

Lauren Edwards

This is one of the top ten monuments in Washington. Amazing that it was all built with bricks and very interesting to see the colour change caused by the halt in work before completion. This can be viewed from so many places but the best view is to walk down the wide mall.

Destinations Untold

Public transport, Uber, electric bikes and scooters are available options in DC. I recommend either one of those options in summer and navigate around Monument to Memorial and make a day of it. The lakes and Parks are so pretty and beautiful.

DisturbedGirl 99

It's pretty awesome. I recommend checking it out if you get a chance but go early if you want to go up in it! Free tickets are distributed at 8:30am

Debolina Banerjee

Nice place to enjoy with friends and family. The monument stands tall amist huge area of greenery. You can easily spend few hours here roaming and enjoying the scenic beauty.

Books Infinite

Extremely tall. Amazing pic opportunities. Food trucks and bathrooms (Though I would advice going before coming). Planes pass regularly for interesting pic. U can take a car, tour bus or taxi there. Not to mention a multitude of museums a walking distance away.

Vishesh kumar

It was good to see such a beautiful monument. It was closed for renovations when we visited.

Rodney Brasfield

Great experience. Little bit of a LOT of walking to see everything. If you can rent the bikes or electric scooters. We spent the day and seen quite a bit.

Kiel Known

We got a privet tour and road underground from the senators office to the capital, what an experienced. The capital has so much history and you can observe the Senate and the House of Representatives. Be aware you will have to go through security, and stand in lines, but it is worth the wait. We were able to see them voting on which judges were to be accepted or not, how cool.

Lorna Christian

Yayyyy!! What a wonderful piece of American History. I'm here with my Mom on the first weekend of the reopening since rhe earthquake. Same day tickets are first come, first serve on the same day. I waited about an hour. The view was magnificent!! Reserved tickets will be available starting October 10th.

Mikayla Blumer

This was the first thing on my list that I wanted to see when I visited Washington D.C this past weekend. It was an absolutely beautiful site to see and made me proud of the country that I am from and live in. They had just opened up the elevator to the top after being closed for the last three years and unfortunately they were sold out for the day but other than that, it was a great experience and I highly recommend anyone visiting the area to check out the Washington Monument.

Eric Driest

It was a great day out and the baby loved crawling in the grass. As an Active Duty Sailor, Washington DC is the perfect place to show my kids

S K

One word: very beautiful. While we travel there, they closed monument for repair elevator. So, we miss chance to go top and look around DC. But still it is beautiful place to visit and explore around dc. Hope they have already fixed this and reopened for public. I have visited twice but both time I was unlucky to have to opportunity to ride to the top. I wish always to go to the top and see that view, but I don’t get chance to go there recently. Such an iconic monument to walk by and see. Oh yeah, there’s limited food store and truck available so make sure you have enough diet before visit there. You can see it from all over DC and on the tip of Virginia. It's a spectacle especially at night. In weekend and holidays this area will is very crowded so be prepared to share space. Make sure someone can bump you accidentally and you also so be easy with public. Absolutely don’t forget to mark this place to your visiting list while you are planning for visit United State of America. White house, Capital building and other hearts of us capital all around here. And you also make plane to visit many museums they are around here.

Aleks Sandra

The monument made a great impression on me. Around a lot of greenery. Nice place.

noizebatch nine

- awesome monument - nice photography opportunity depending on weather - can go inside to the top and look out windows - overall a cool thing to do while in DC

Giselle M

A must see when visiting the area. There are a lot of things to see within walking distance.

Silas Griffin

It's great it's just that its closed all the time.

Michael Valdivielso

Been in it many times. As a child and as an adult. Once even got in with my museum ID and bypassed the line. That was when I worked for a museum in DC and before they started using tickets. Before that you had to wait in line for HOURS. On a clear day you can see everything. Even the National Cathedral. Otherwise don't go for the view. Go for the history. This is a Monument to a Founding Father. Yes, a flawed man. A man who had ideas and opinions that you may not agree with. But he helped give birth to a amazing experiment and should get a little respect. At least in the Monument built for him.

Nate Meier

Impressive spire. Unfortunately not currently open for visitors inside due to reconstruction, but will be renewed for opening later 2019. Key landmark to visit while in DC... and guess what... NO LINES!

Stephanie Allen

Closed for renovations but I wish there had been more info outside, we had questions that required Google... like: why did the brick change a third of the way up? I guess cool to see a historical landmark but just not sure what I was meant to have taken away from the experience.

Christopher Agresto

The Apollo 11 50th anniversary display was amazing! I'd love to see them do more projections onto the monument in the future!

Darren Nelson

So great to go in it after being closed 8 years

Nayeem Rahman

Excellent pointed structure. Exquisite from up close and you take cheeky pictures from miles away. Gates around it are a bit tacky I must say. Kudos to our first president.

Jamie Lynn Guy

Giant obelisk weird. Strange place, the capital. Loved most of it. Especially the museum's being free!! They were all so great! Use the lockers at the American history museum or leave everything except ID Keys & a couple of bucks in your car, hotel etc... Being searched takes moments if you travel light! Have a blast! Don't miss a thing plan 3 to 5 days. Only a few things for kids unless it's a field trip. Plan way ahead of you want to tour the White House. Like months or a year or more.

Sridhar Srinivasan

Center of National Mall and you can view this from a long distance..This is one of the top ten monuments in Washington. Amazing that it was all built with bricks and very interesting to see the color change caused by the halt in work before completion. This can be viewed from so many places but the best view is to walk down the wide mall.

Jesse Panzone

Of course it’s always fun visiting the nations capital. There is a lot to see and hear. Definitely a lot of sirens, lol. Awesome place to go if you’re genuinely interested in seeing the monument and other historical sites.

Jon H

How do you review the Washington Monument? We enjoyed seeing this iconic place. It's amazing and kind of beautiful. It's nice to just walk right up to it and stare up, although it'd be better to be able to go to the top. Construction will be finished soon, they say, and it'll be fun to see things from the top like Spider-Man did.

Kimberly Wilcox

I got to go this past weekend to the monument and see the 50 anniversary for Neil Armstrong landing on the moon. It was a wonderful experience that I will never forget. The monument is having work done on the inside so unfortunately I didnt get to go up. Right in the center of D.C near the WWII memorial and across from Lincoln. Super pretty to look at during the night time

Frank Igwe

Amazing sight! We visited in Aug 2019 and were told that by Sept 2019, visitors would be able to get to the top of the monument (from inside I think).

R S

Name should be changed to the TRUMP MONUMENT to celebrate the best president this nation ever had. TRUMP 2020 KEEP AMERICA GREAT!

Nayeem Rahman

Excellent pointed structure. Exquisite from up close and you take cheeky pictures from miles away. Gates around it are a bit tacky I must say. Kudos to our first president.

Calvin Do

Great place to visit and take pictures at all times of the day except night. Usually you can catch some really pretty shots with the sun in the background since it's pretty open and on a hill. May be closed sometimes for construction on the inside

Student: Ada Below

I am only nine but i have been there a lot and the view is amazing.I love all the cherry blossoms in Washington D.C. When I was little my parents took me there when the kite festival was going on and it was beautiful and full of colors.

Jeanne Dunchus

Would have been better if it had been open for tours.

Ellie L

It might look small from mall, but this park is so big, it has multiple directions, start from Washington Monument, it took 20 some mins to Lincoln Monument, or 25 mins to White House if you choose another direction. Choose a pair of comfortable shoes, it would be a long walking day!

Jesse Panzone

Of course it’s always fun visiting the nations capital. There is a lot to see and hear. Definitely a lot of sirens, lol. Awesome place to go if you’re genuinely interested in seeing the monument and other historical sites.

Stephen Madaras

I took my family to DC to see the Apollo 11 anniversary video on the Washington Monument. It was super cool. I am so glad we went to celebrate a huge milestone in American history.

Mark King

This picture is awesome... don't need to say much more. DC is incredible.

Larissa Mackay

Great monument... it can be seen from different angles... Even at night!! it's so beautiful.

Shawn Silver

Awesome place to go with the kids very rich history

Jacqui London

A massive obelisk, commemorating the life of George Washington; this monument dominates the central DC vista. You can’t get up close and personnel, but what you can do is honour its fame by photographing your close friends and family holding it up, standing beside it with their fingers on top, or leaning jauntily against it. Just head out a short way from the monument, perhaps towards the corner of Constitution and 17th and if you are prepared to lie down in the grass wielding a camera and give very specific instructions to other members of your party, you can take some memorable photos.

Emily Hill

'Mr Hadlow Has...' visited the iconic Washington Monument. Superb! : )

juan soliz

All though i wasn't able to go up or inside of the Washington Monument, i would say, it is a great experience. When in DC its so cool to immerse yourself in our nation's history... the best part about it is that it's free to see it. Yo uh really can't go wrong here. Just remember to bring water and a good pair of walking shoes.

R Ravi

Excellent place to visit with kids. Bit disappointed that entry inside the monument is closed for renovation. Still it’s beautiful from outside and has couple of good spots to take snaps. Visited part of my hop on hop off one day bus tour and got down for 15 mins to take snaps. Felt worth visiting.

Mark Woodley

Last visit up the Washington Monument was in August 2011 just a day or two before an earthquake closed the monument for repairs. Now re-opened with new elevators and security in place, this is sure to quickly regain its dominance as one of the top 3 sites to visit in D.C. New improvements for obtaining tickets including online tickets should help visitors considerably. In the past it was necessary to line up at the ticket office for the monument and request the time for your visit to personnel on duty. A great vantage point to see the Federal City from above, the tallest structure too in the 10 square mile area of Washington D.C. Learn details from displays within the monument and from the National Park Service attendants on duty, they're friendly and more than willing to impart knowledge to make your visit memorable. Allow minimum 1 hour not including waiting for your tour time.

Nathan Yamamoto

Didn't come close to this place- sadly, it wasn't part of my tour. However, from everywhere you see it, it's impressive. Standing at 555 feet tall, it's the perfect perspective centerpiece, while you're staring at it from the Lincoln Memorial, down the reflection pool. The Washington Monument is perhaps one of the greatest statues/monuments they have in DC, and is definitely worth a visit.

Bob Grub

The Washington Monument is the tallest building in DC and the only building in DC taller than the Capitol Building. Actually, it was the tallest building in the world, until the Eiffel Tower was built. You can see it from no matter where you are in DC. It is definitely iconic. If you happen to be in DC, don’t forget to stop by.

Jacob Colvin

Amazing views from up top. A symbol of America. Let freedom ring.

Conspiracy Flyer

It is such a beautiful sight to see when you get a chance! It represents the United States. When I saw it at first I was SO ecstatic!!

Lula Turner

Highly recommend walking the mall to see the big three monuments of Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson. We started at Washington monument, then walked along reflection pool to Lincoln Memorial monument passing World War II Memorial along the way. After Lincoln Memorial Monument we passed the Korean Memorial and then continued on observing both the Martin Luther King Memorial and Franklin D Roosevelt Memorial before walking around tidal basin to Jefferson Monument and Memorial. Was approximately in the 4.5 to 5 miles of walking range that took us approximately 3.5 hours.

Sridhar Srinivasan

Great historical monument to see up close. Really nice area to visite also. I hope to visite the top someday, it's been in renovation for a while now.

Cornelius Davoren

Washington Monument is a stone pillar with rectangular cross section and a pyramidal top better known as an obelisk situated at National Mall in Washington, D.C. This was built to commemorate George Washington, once commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and the first President of the United Statesof America. The monument is made of marble and is the world's tallest stone obelisk structure. This is a good photo stop along with National Christmas Tree and The White House rear side.

John Welch

It's very nice, although there are always many people, you must go very early

Gouri Usha Mannepalli

Iconic monument. reopened to the public after some repair work.

Connie Ruger

It was absolutely fabulous! Mind the walk...but it's definitely worth the walk. (Especially if you're into history, art, monuments, nature, and naturalness)

Aimee Lim

This landmark is beautiful. A photographers masterpiece. We drove here just for a visit. We came early. It was crowded already. Cherry blossom festival but we still enjoy the day. Very educational place and maintained. The water feature is a plus. We will come back again.

Just fantastic, young or older! It's always a good idea to start your trip to Washington as we did with the Washington monument. It stands tall and lean basically wanting to touch the sky and reach no limits as it points towards the sky. It was built to honor our 1st President and basically it looks like the number 1 meaning 1st. When the elevator works it's fantastic and the view from the top is breathtaking. At every point of the day as the Sun moves across the sky and the Earth turns, there is a different glow to the Washington monument. To view this monument in person is absolutely spectacular as it changes color and luster throughout the daylight and certainly into the evening lit up like a huge candle. Its meaning and stature in the United States is unprecedented. Every time anyone sets foot or looks at this monument, we honor George Washington. So when you come here, be thoughtful enough to give thanks and praise.

Christopher Chaban

We were only able to walk around the monument since it was going under construction. Around the monument there were a lot food trucks near by to eat if you get hungry or thirsty. Lots of walking so bring the proper shoes.

Steve Kenny

It was fun to finally have gotten the chance to go up the Monument.

Danago

The world's tallest obelisk built to commemorate George Washington is one of the iconic symbol in DC. Hard to miss as you can see it all the way from a great distance. Great view from across the park where there are several food trucks on standby ready to take care of your snacking requirement for the day. Better to stand a bit further away to actually take a good photo.

Edilberto Lopez M

Beautiful everywhere, familly evening, walk till late night, police presence, feeling safe.

Durand Brown

A picture with your kid in front of the monument is wall worthy so do it. Also great show and tell for your kids summer. Bring your most comfortable sneakers. Don't let your kids wear flip flops unless you want to do the walk slow.

Pooja Varma

Seeing the Washington monument was amazing, I highly recommend going at night if you can. It is a different and wonderful experience! A must see on your visit to DC. Also, all the food trucks can be found on the side away from the Lincoln memorial which is convenient.

Shane Grey

It's beautiful but had construction around it and blocked off part of the walking trail to the reflecting pool

Gregory Borunda

it was cool enough that we went twice. My 13 year old was on board with cutting something else out so we could go again. Go early to get the best choice of time slots.

Joshua Imholz

A very cool monument, how could you not want to see this.

L Y N N

Very tall monument built in honor of George Washington. Building stands tall and proud and can be seen from a great distance. Was an honor to see it up close and to take pictures. Too bad we weren't allowed to go in as it was closed at the time. We still had fun visiting places around.

Mark Shoenfelt

The Washington Monument. A centerpiece of the National Mall with plenty of paths to and around the monument. Often a wait to ride to the top but worth the wait. Be sure to ask about the repaired earthquake damage and the state memorial stones.

Rekina Romes

Loved it! It's definitely a spot to visit. I truly laughed at the number of pictures I took attempting to capture the full image!

Anush John

"The Washington Monument wasn’t meant to be 2 colours. Construction began in 1848. It was built with marble, blue gneiss, and granite. Six years later, the Washington National Monument Society ran out of money, and construction stopped for the next 25 years. In 1876, the US government took over the construction. Marble from a different quarry was used to finish the monument. Over time, each section changed colour based on how the materials reacted to the weather. "

MollyEllen B

Not open. Can see it but can't go inside or up to it. Still neat to see.

Donnell Lyons

Amazing view of the Washington Monument. To see it in real life is a great experience and recommend everyone come and visit too!!!

Adam Chornesky

This July 19, 2019, I attended 50 year celebration of the Moon Landing. Viewed and recorded projection of the Apollo 11 Saturn 5 rocket onto the Washington Monument. Really memorable.

Damon Allison

Great tribute to a great president. The elevators were "closed indefinitely" when we came here in 2019. It would be fun to see the city from the top.

Aishwarya K

Good to visit in the evening Can spend sometime here, kids can play. Need to bring our own snacks as there are no food courts nearby

Nathaniel Pyron

Absolutely beautiful monument. Its Landmark area that was planned by an Urban Planner. I am an urban Planner and would love to work in DC

Edmundo Chaparro-Barriguete

There's an elevator that brings you up to the top in 60 secs.

Brent Thomas

After seeing the Washington Monument in books and movies it was so surreal to be standing there in person. The thing is huge and gorgeous and historic. I have been to D.C. 5 times and each time it has been closed tourist. This last time there was a chain link fence surrounding it so that you could not get that close to touch it but it is just so iconic to experience it in person.

Valérie Lent

Of course it is a landmark, but once you're there it you realize this is just what it is, literally a gigantic landmark. It is disappointing to stare at something so huge, so tall, and notice that the only reaction it brings up is not a feeling but rather a thought, about how tall it is, and what the height is supposed to symbolize. The grandeur of our nation? I would have preferred something more representative of the values extolled by Washington, more subtlety in the design. I felt like a kid just saying: wow, it is big! And then move on, because this vast bare lawn around it feels a little depressing.

David Sincere

I don't hate it I love the monument but it's not like I used to be. You can't walk up it anymore. Which means you miss all the sculptures that are inside the monument depicting historical Events. By the way there's a 1000 steps up to the top to the monument. But the elevator hasn't worked since the earthquake. And God only knows when it's going to get fixed.

Umar Yusufu

Why the devil not! It's a landmark and it is magnificent. Security and other faf though I could quite honestly do without.

Shawn Harden

Always love coming to The Mall, and the monument. Today was really special, Congress had to approve NASA/Smithsonian beaming images on the monument!

Hailey Chantell

Very fascinating. Wonderful monument to visit, not too many crowds because of the large amount of area there is to cover which I find a plus. Only issue is parking in which I recommend all others to plan out thoroughly prior to arriving.

Dondré S

One of the staples in the city. It is the highest structure in the city. Through out the city you can see the monument. The way the city was designed it provides amazing views of this monument you can see daily just going about your day to day life.

Pratik J

Definitely one of the most iconic buildings in the world. Stands as a unique symbol dedicated to the first president of the United States. You can feel the presence of history when you are near it. Even though it's visible from everywhere in the DC metro area, quite a different experience to see it up close.

Luigi Battaglioli

Always so amazing to see. There's construction going on right now however so you can't go inside. It's nice to just bike around (or use one of those fancy electric Bird scooters) and appreciate the scenery. Truly amazing!

Rob Pence

Great place to visit and you will be able to go to the top again soon.

Alice K

A great tourist destination and place to spend a few hours or the day. The monument is also an amazing backdrop to many festivals and celebrations through the year. A definite must when visiting the Nations capital.

Jim Moltzan

What more is there to say? Eat at the food trucks if you need a quick and tasty meal while visiting.

J Willy

Scaffolding is down. Thought I'd be unique and take picture of this thing. Glad to see this pyramid lost so much weight. Good for it.

Warren

It was closed. But I enjoyed being close to it

Laurrie Steele

Love this beautiful building. Felt so small next to it.Hubby got most of stamps for book.

Timmy Ross

Such a powerful and magnificent monument. This iconic landmark can be see for miles and you must go see it up close. To my knowledge you cannot go up top anymore due to structural issues but that may have changed. If it has, you should definitely take the time and spend the money to go up top. The surrounding grounds are well maintained and if you need to stop for a rest, there are benches and the lawn is always manicured so you can just plop down and rest. Please go see this and experience one of the most iconic monuments in DC.

Trisha Hector

While visiting the Lincoln Memorial back In April 2019, I took the opportunity to take a stroll towards the Washington Monument. It definitely was a very tranquil and pleasant experience and stroll. The monument is made out of marble, granite and bluestone gneiss. Standing an impressive (554 feet) and 169.046 m. Construction began in 1848 and final completion was back in 1888. I recommend that you wear comfortable shoes, take plenty of pictures, selfies, videos or all of the above but make sure you try to go before dawn because the monument closes at 10pm and you might not be able to get the best natural lighting for your pics/ videos. I very glad that I was able to see this monument which was dedicated to President George Washington ❤️.

Atul Shrivastava

This iconic monument is a must see and not to be missed if you are visiting DC. This is a beautiful place to walk around with family to hangout and feel the capital. Lincoln memorial, White house, State capital Building and Smithsonian museums (National Air and Space, Arts and more) are all surrounded. Only thing is you have to walk a lot to see all the beautiful museums and monuments, but worth it.

Vinay Kumar

A beautiful place to go to have a picnic and to know about many wonderful stories of American history.

Chris Olson

I felt very privileged to ride up the elevator at 1 pm on a weekday with 11 other people and spend an hour of quality time checking all the views, talking to the ranger and reading all the exhibits. All I did was arrive about 8:40 am, get in line and tell them the time slot I wanted. Everyone that arrived between 8:30 am and 9:30 got tickets

Brendan Maier

Great place to go. Two bits of advice. 1 the red circle bus is free to use and 2 if going in the summer takes lots of water.

Melanie Katherine

Since I’ve been in DC, I’ve seen this monument multiple times but it always is an incredible juxtaposition to the skyline. Huge and beautiful. Takes awhile up close to walk around and it is fenced off so you cannot walk up and touch. There may be tours for it but I’m not sure. Loved the Saturn V projection for the Apollo 11 commemoration.

Pat Corad

Love DC. The mall is beautiful, Reflection Pool sits behind the Monument creating a beautiful backdrop. Love our Nation's Capital. A must see.

Love Lacy

It was great to get back after years of being closed from the damage sustained during a rare DC earthquake. The new security procedures are on the slower side. I guess it's for a good reason. Opens to the public 9.19.19 tickets are first come first served.

Anna Scott

Flags waving around the memorial was picture perfect!

Manuela Costescu

Exceptional projection on Washington Monument tonight: the moon landing that happened 50 years ago. There was silence, everyone was watching and taking photographs, then applause and sounds of happiness. I have never seen so many people around the monument. During the previous nights we saw the racket as big as the monument. It is a historic moment. Perhaps we should go back on the moon

Viviana Converti

Very nice monument!! Good views to take pictures. An iconic place to know!!

Katt A

Still a great visit. However they are in the middle of some repairs/updates so you can not get at all near the base. Not sure how long this will be a thing but, it is a gov project so that means it will be longer than any original estimate.

Anil Kumar Surepalli

Wonderful place to go back to history and salute all the heros of American history..nice place for kids to get inspiration from..one side white house and other side afro American museum..everyone should experience the

Kessler Baker

Love how Spider-Man saved mj like that, very heroic

Caleb Persia

One of the places you must see when visiting. Breathtaking views and lots of areas to sit and take it all in.

Scottina McQueen

The scenry was great. The atmosphere and all the different families were out enjoying the day

Henry Wimcas

The place was still cordoned off when I was there. I really liked it from the distance though; rising tall above the capital of the United states. It was the first famous structure I've seen when driving into dc, and it was a majestic sight.

Eric Lam

Such a powerful and magnificent monument. This iconic landmark can be see for miles and you must go see it up close. To my knowledge you cannot go up top anymore due to structural issues but that may have changed. If it has, you should definitely take the time and spend the money to go up top. The surrounding grounds are well maintained and if you need to stop for a rest, there are benches and the lawn is always manicured so you can just plop down and rest. Please go see this and experience one of the most iconic monuments in DC.

This is one of the top ten monuments in Washington. Amazing that it was all built with bricks and very interesting to see the colour change caused by the halt in work before completion. This can be viewed from so many places but the best view is to walk down the wide mall.

Nathan Moon

One of my favorite evening hangouts in the nice weather. A great place to watch people and sunsets. Even when the rest of the city is packed with tourists and commuters you're never crowded in on the Mall unless there's an Inauguration or it's July 4th. Sadly the monument itself has been closed for much of the last decade as it went through renovation and then repair after the Earthquake...yes earthquake. Who knew?

Michelle Watson

A visit here is such an amazing experience. I love the inspiring history that permeates this place. Be sure to leave extra time at every monument to appreciate the founding fathers' forward thinking that built such a great nation.

Heart

Beautiful structure. I've never been inside so I'll hold the rest of my review.

La H

It is cool to see from outside but it was closed so didn't get the full experience.

Cynthia Kirk

More impressive in person. Great area to sightsee with lots to see and do. Also lots of good restaurants around.

R & N Pool

Under construction so we couldn't get close or go up in it, but still cool

Brad Paradis

Amazing to see this at night. This whole area is beautiful and a great experience to take in at our nation’s capital. Decent distance between monuments. Be prepared to walk or rent bikes/scooters.

Steve Myers

The country's capital is a stunning spot to meander around and unwind. There are numerous attractions like the Washington Monument and relying upon when you come there will be some movement or another event. A few ends of the week are busier than others particularly around the cherry bloom and kite celebration time frame. I generally appreciate this region it is pleasant and unwinding to simply appreciate the view.

Regina Alvarez

Unfortunately it was still closed for retrofitting, so I could only enjoy it from the outside. It is beautiful though.

Robert Mitcham

While I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to go up it due to recent reconstruction, it was still an amazing sight to behold. Love the history behind the different stone quarries that went into it's construction. Very easy to get a good angle for a photo free of other tourists!

Highly recommended tour. The National Park Service does an excellent job. Beautiful views of America’s Capitol and White House.

Dicken Doe

Kinda impressive, and definitely a landmark. At the moment it is undergoing renovations so you can't go in, and the works blocks of some of the easier pathways for continuing down the mall. Looks it's best reflected in the pool looking back from the Lincoln memorial, and easy to spot from everywhere.

patrizia rollo

Well definitely not disappointing. You don't understand how big and tall it is until you get to it's feet. Really well kept and definitely important.

T. Hutchins

This changed my idea of big . Wow . See for your self. Always iconic but much bigger than I ever dreamed in person.

I M

Amazing show of rocket launch to commemorate moon landing. Well done! Only complaint on the show was there were no signs directing people.

Gwydion Alder

Awesome views had to get tickets at 7:30 am though as it is very popular but at the designated time on the ticket the wait was quite short and the experience very nice and efficient.

Amy

The lawn in from of the Washington Monument must be known as softball heaven. So many people use the park for practice, to jog, run, or just hang out. It appeared to be very safe and welcoming.

Jon Palmer

It's currently blocked off, so we couldn't even get close to it or go up in it. I would give a higher rating had we been able to do those two things.

saigopi krishna

Great place to visit. Make sure you apply a lot of sunscreen if you are planning to visit on a sunny summer day.

I can/Ek kan Pleasant memories for educators

Such a nice place to just walk around and enjoying the open spaces within a busy city such as Washington DC. Loved seeing all the runners and active people in and around the monument. You can enjoy the scenery and think about the history in a safe environment.

Maria Dayot

I thought this is just a perfect place to visit.its so American!! Makes you understand and appreciate this country.

Lauren Conrad

When will the monument ever be fixed? Once it is, I suggest you your inside before it gets closed again. It's still a nice stroll on an afternoon to go see it and wander about in the surrounding parks. There's usually food trucks nearby on weekends, so that's nice too!

Fayeleesa Shropshire

First time visiting DC! Was awesome to visit even though it's being repaired. Plan to go back when it's fully opened up.

Dhiman Sengupta

The nation's capital is an amazing place to roam around and relax. There are many attractions like the Washington Monument and depending on when you come there will be some activity or another happening. Some weekends are busier than others especially around the cherry blossom and kite festival time period. I always enjoy this area it is nice and relaxing to just enjoy the view.

Melinda Rod

Very good place to walk and take your family and take pictures. You may need to wear tennis shoes, if you want to enjoy everything. No establish trash cans and no restrooms available. So go the bathroom before you arrive there and be ready to spend at least 3 hours.

Christine Kazen

Would have been even better to go into the monument. But was still great to see in person

Patti Covert

An emotional experience and appreciation of our great county with many thanks to our founding fathers.
