The Tours Portland Landmarks Gives Are a Must-Do!
I arranged two private tours with Portland Landmarks and each of them was brilliant. For just the two of us we had two guides, commonly known as The Teacher and The Preacher, since each held that job in the Portland area until retirement.
We took the Golden Age of Portland tour one day and it was on the southern end of the city. It covered the beautiful homes and architecture and both guides had a love of their city and its architecture that made the tour completely engaging.
The other day we took a tour of the Northern Part of the city, where the commercial district boomed during the 1700 and 1800s. There were wonderful stories of what was where, back then, and The Teacher had friends who'd grown up in some of the areas we walked in, so we heard wonderful stories about not just the places, but the people. It felt like The Tale of Two Cities - the upscale and the work stiffs - taking both tours.
For a very reasonable price, we got a 1.5+ hour tour just for ourselves, at our pace and with no interruptions. My husband is hard of hearing and so this tour was ideal for him, with both guides near him and speaking directly to him.
I can't recommend it enough. Now we want to do the Lighthouse, the Customs House and every other tour they give. Totally great organization and wonderful tours.
