Love the mountains
Beautiful, great for swimming, photos, or just relaxing. Would highly recommend anyone to check it out if you haven't already. Theres options for the site seer, the hiker, and the casual tourist. Will definitely be coming back again!
Great place to hike, have a picnic and enjoy nature. Great sites from your car, short walks to scenic attractions and for the more adventurous a great place to get a day or over night hike in.
Excellent outdoor playground. We'll maintained facilities. We hiked Old Speck and the view from the tower on top was breathtaking!
Great for hiking, camping and all around family fun.
Right off the road with amazing water falls.
Great trails.... Beautiful views
Always beautiful love coming back ❤❤❤
Most natural attractions- Screw Auger Falls, Mother Walker Falls and Moose Cave parking areas aren't plowed restrooms aren't open.
Always great outdoor family place
Great place to cool down.
Really nice place
So many great trails, picnic spots and scenic views! An all day family adventure.
Enjoyable hike up Old Speck. The view from the top isn't great unless you climb the fire tower- so definitely go right on up.
Absolutely beautiful!
Gorgeous scenery, a must go
Spectacular! Screw Auger Falls is a must stop!
Beautiful clean park. Lots of parking options. And nice outhouses.
Our favorite fall ride;
Sunday river Whitecap is awesome.
Such a beautiful place to just lose yourself.
Nice place to walk around and see some of nature's beauty
Off season might be less congested Easy access
Always beautiful
Beautiful area of Maine
Nice park on AT with waterfalls
Fantastic place to relax, have a picnic or a hike. There are even toilets.
Beautiful place, great sign explaining srea
What a scenic drive! Easy pull off sites to see waterfalls. There are a few picnic areas and a parking lot with access to the Appalachian Trail and other hiking trails. Only a couple spots have pit toilets. There is no cell service in the gorge and no gas stations for 30 miles, so fill up in Bethel, Maine or Errol, NH before you go!
Love to get out and play in the water, enjoy a picnic lunch, and just relax for a while! This is the place to do it!
Very nice and relaxing place to go with the family. We have been going there for years now, our son loves to go in the water and walk on the rocks. There was a lot of people there when we went, so I would recommend getting there early to make sure you have a table to sit at.
Perfect place to spend 4th of July. Our 2yr old loved it. Not a lot of parking but bathrooms were quite clean, lots of tp. We love it here!
One of the most accessible parks in Maine
This place was amazingly AWESOME! I would love to spend much more time to explore this absolute treasure! The waterfalls and cave are close to the road and are an easy walk to see. it is breathtaking! I will be back.
Awesome location to hike or build rock structures. A few different waterfalls. Huge hole, wouldn't leave kinds unattended
Perfect spot to hike, relax and take a picnic with family and friends. There is plenty if parking and the trails are marked well. The cave and rock formations are so rough and untouched. There are cascading waterfalls and clear pools for cooling off. It was quite chilly when I visited, so no one was splashing about, but I'm sure during the warmer months it is quite the different story.
State is just too beautiful it's not even fair
Glimpse at a little bit of Maine's natural beauty in this awe-filled state park. Maybe you'll see a moose if you're lucky!
Fun, lovely park with multiple small falls
This place is beautiful. It's right off the roadway. No long hike to get to the falls. Nope, here in Maine, apparently, we just blast right through the most pristine part of the park,so our cars and traffic can effectively ruin the serenity that could have been experienced here. Never the less, it is beautiful and worth stopping to see. Since it is very easy to get to.
Beautiful park for a quick hike or just to drive through, we were lucky because of the leaves starting to change just added a little something.
Great place to visit.. scary heights, watch children closely..
Spent the day with the family- checked out Moose Cave Gorge, Mother Walker Falls and ended at Screw Auger Falls for some splashing in the cold, clear water and picnicked in the park! Great day! Beautiful scenery! Awesome memories!
Beautiful wilderness area. The falls are spectacular.
Wonderful but rigerous hiking in the area
Just go already
A Must See!!
All the attractions were well marked along the road. We stayed at the state campground on Umbagog Lake which was a great campground and very clean. Over all it was an excellent Choi to go here. Just keep in mind that you will be far away from stores and gas stations so pl an accordingly.
Great place for short easy hikes. Beautiful!
Amazing natural rock slides. Make sure to hit step falls. It's worth the hike in!
It's beautifully great views lovely water fall
Great view, easy hike to the waterfall
Such a beautiful place!
Beautiful place, lots to see. Great hiking trails.
Wish it had been drier, but had a great time hiking up over the Eyebrow and then up Old Spec. Trails are in good shape.
We had so much fun exploring around here! We loved wading through the clear water and climbing on the rocks. Screw Auger falls was my favorite! Moose cave is a bit of a disappointment but still fun to explore. My husband and I hiked the eyebrow trail and part of the old speck Appalachian trail. It was INTENSE. Far more than I expected but fun overall. Overall this park was awesome!!!
Nature at its finest. Walking out in the midst of a small waterfall is amazing. Trails are easy hikes and the scenery is breathtaking.
Be sure to stop and take in all the sights. There are a number of short walks to stop and take in the park. The falls is definitely the highlight, but we also enjoyed the hike up to Table Rock.
Beautiful little park. Nice water falls and picknic areas.
More hype than view. I was disappointed. I was expecting large gorges and waterfalls, but it's a tiny stream.
This place is an awesome playground any time of year! Hiking for all levels with access to Maine's 5th highest peak and some of the hardest sections of the AT. Popular in summer time as there are many swimming holes and easy camera ops right out of the car. Make time to check out screw auger falls, moose cave and mother walker falls which are all short walks from the car. This is beautiful country in winter with great ice climbing and snowshoeing and BC skiing. Many people snowmobile here. Please respect this place and carry out your trash. Graffiti has become a problem in the park which is a tragedy. Please respect the park
Maine has treasured that are not coastal too!
Love it here. Great hiking and very clean picnic areas.
Seems dangerous and there were a buttload of black flies. I'd avoid it if I were you.
Check out the swimming holes, one by one. If you have the time spend a day at each
This place was amazing. And the privately owned small campground right before you entered was spectacular. The owners were welcoming and friendly, they had clean nice bathrooms, and beautiful campsites. I will definitely be returning ASAP!
Gorgeous place, very scenic and you can swim there. Lots of great photo ops as well. Right off the Appalachian Trail!
Drive through park with trails. Beautiful waterfalls. Clean. Very pretty in autumn. Worth the drive from Portland.
Beautiful everyone needs to travel Rt26 from Newry to Grafton beautiful scenic views and great hiking even a couple out of the way swimming holes. Stop in and see Tim the Park Ranger and he can tell you about the area.
Beautiful falls
Foilage is past peak in the notch but it's still worth the trip. The waterfalls are running high and long mountain vews are beautiful. While Screw Auger Falls gets all the attention here, the drive in is gorgeous too and hiking first rate. As usual, Spruce Meadow picnic area was deserted, even though the view from here is superb, yellow tamaracks shining against brown scrub and dull gold hillsides.
Am excellent park with fantastic views. This is a milestone for hikers in the Appalachian Trail who are either entering or leaving the state of Maine (depending on direction) some excellent hitch hiking opportunities for town, and some short side hikes for some great views! A must see!
Lots of great scenes turnouts!!
A must see!
Great place to visit
I hiked the Eyebrow Trail and Appalachian Trail segment up to Old Speck Mountain. I then hiked the Appalachian Trail segment back down to the parking area. It took me (fairly experienced day hiker) 2.5 hours to climb up the mountain and 1.75 to climb down. There's a fire tower at the top of the mountain that you can climb to see fantastic views of the White Mountains and surrounding Maine mountains.
This is one one of the places you gotta go and check out and enjoy all the fun water holes, short & long hiking trails, lots of wildlife and be sure to thank any or the park rangers and park manager for doing such a great job keeping the park in tip top shape for each and everyone of us to enjoy our visit. Been enjoying this Maine State Park for over 40+ yrs and look forward to each visit!!!
This is a beautiful place. The view's from the top of each mountain is breathtaking. I recomend starting with screw augers fall before you make your way to the trails.
Beautiful Park
One of my fav spots because of its pure beauty 5*
Took the family for a hike here. Terrain is very doable for 4-6 year Olds. Nice way to get everyone onto the AT. Nearby is moose cave which was underwhelming but fun for the kids to see. Very short hike in to see that from the road so it wasn't a big thing.
Beautiful place!!
Absolutely beautiful place. I highly suggest going early in the morning to skip the crowds
Trails had some ancient stone stairs that run through out the mountain side. the bugs tried eating us alive, even with multiple applications of bug spray. No cell service until the top of the mountain, so don't get hurt.
Amazing views throughout Grafton Notch. Photos from Labor Day weekend 2018. Some of the most rugged woods in Maine & New Hampshire runs through this area. Challenging hike up Old Speck, beautiful views (from the tower), the exact kind of nature escape a soul needs.
We visited multiple sites at Grafton Notch State Park while attending the New England Forest Rally up in Maine this summer. There were plenty of site to visit to keep you busy throughout the day. We personally loved Screen Auger Falls! We could cool off in the river while waiting between race stages.
The natural beauty of the rock formations & the different layers of the water falls are wonderful. Such a peaceful nature spot. Also the out houses are clean.
Beautiful place to visit and the kids swim in the pools.
Great hike
Grafton notch is a beautiful state park located above newry maine. There are tons of different trails and rest stops. Step falls, angel falls and screw auger falls are a few good ones. Screw auger falls is one of the best for sights. It was once a water mill. There is still parts of the mill there as well as a huge waterfall and several swimming pools. In early spring the water is too high to swim and the wet ground can be slick. Summer is the best season for animals and small children.
Beautiful.. crystal clear water.. and quiet country setting...
Love this place. Been going here for over 25 years. Stealth winter camping and backcountry winter camping/snowboarding. There is a great loop trail as well as roadside sites for everyone. Beautiful any time of year!
We stopped at the Screw Auger Falls, which is accessible from the road or parking lot. Beautiful scenery just wish it was not so cloudy out.
Spectacularly beautiful site!
Fun Place to cool off in the summer. Swimming is limited as there are no deep holes, but you can get in behind the waterfall. There are picnic tables and grills along the river which make for a create spot to spend some time. There is a fee for entering, but it is an honor system and it is not well marked, so it is easy to miss. Fun place for an adventure with kids.
It really doesn't get much better than this for the outdoorsy person. This park illuminates the best of what Maine has to offer. The hiking is second to none, the trails are well marked and safe. Your fellow hikers are friendly and willing to give directions when needed. I hiked Table Rock, Old Speck and Eye Brow- all amazing views once the uphill work was complete. I highly recommend a morning or afternoon in the park, there's no fee and parking is excellent.
Beautiful experience, lots of natural sights to enjoy. Waterfalls and the like, a great place to take the family. A lot of walking but you get to enjoy the great outdoors. Picnic areas too.
Comfortable, easy hiking with a beautiful waterfall at Screw Auger Falls. Other waterfalls available with longer hikes. Park is in the "notch" or pass between two mountains and on the Appalachian Trail.
Beautiful area. Parking was plentiful, there was public toilets and free maps. Table Rock Trail was harder than I expected - I guess my interpretation of "moderate" for the orange part of the trail was something that didn't involve scrambling as well as hiking. But the view was stunning - well worth it!
Nice area along Highway 26 outside of Bethel.
Had a lot of fun exploring some of the waterfalls here.
Didn't realize the Flume Gorge is a paid-entry site - not as in you pay to get into the park, but you have to pay to see the gorge, which closes at 5. Hiking around the Basin was nice (signage could have been a little better). Access is easy with several exita right off the highway.
OUTSTANDING
It's really pretty but not much of a hike, if you are to go I recommend bringing a bathing suit as it's should be much more fun, and more of a trip to swim
Made our first visit here on vacation last year. Will be going back this year. Several spots along the road to stop for site seeing. Screw auger falls is the main place. Has picnic tables along the river. Nice place.
What a great weekend with Cindy and Jamie Bisson
What the Fall leaf cover It was very beautiful up there
Very exquisite experience here. The pictures really tell an excellent tale. Great place to hike with friends and family. Decent paths, but bring boots just in case it gets muddy.
Screw Auger Falls is a beautiful spot within the park that is not to be missed. Great place to visit on a hot day and lounge around on the flat rocks or with your feet in the water. There are also swimming holes that are deep enough to jump into. There are picnic tables and grills on site for those that wish to picnic.
If you have never seen Screw Auger Falls you owe it to yourself to make the trip. It's been our family favorite for 4 generations. Bring a blanket and a picnic. Keep a close eye on children and don't be afraid to take off your shoes to dip your toes in the pools of cool mountain water.
one of fav hang outs when I come to visit every year
Very nice area..great for couples..
A great place to go exploring with your family!
Grafton Notch is beautiful and peaceful. Gorgeous place for an afternoon picnic, and to cool down on a hot summer day.
Nice hiking trails
It is sooo beautiful!!! I really wish I had time to hike the trails
Had a great time hiking the eyebrow trail and some of the AT. Also enjoyed the quick journey to Moose Cave, Mother Walker Falls, and Screw Auger Falls. Definitely a must visit in the Southern Interior.
Very nice. Great place to explore. Slippery rocks. Take your time and your allset
Clean, well kept up. Good parking. Two clean outhouses. Eyebrow trail to AT and down was challenging and recommended good hiking shoes
Lots of interesting geology and the water was wonderful.
Great hiking
Very pretty ride
Very cool park in some way reminding me of Acadia National Park. Lots to see every area we went to was clean and offered a scene of some sort worth seeing
Bring your bathing suit on a hot day. The cool water of the Bear River will refresh you. Glacial meltwater created small private basins you can lay in safely. Remarkable picnic tables in the trees next to the river.
I love this place it made me so happy inside and out
Just saw the Notch for the first time and was awed ar Mother Nature's creation!!
My dad grew up in Newry, and we spent our childhood in Grafton notch star park, hiking and swimming. No better place in the world.
Nice hike on the way Niagara, if you are remotely interested in picturesque view you better stop at this place
So easy to just drive by. You've got to stop and see the falls and just overall views. Gorgeous.
Easy access to waterfalls.
Loved the area
It was good overall!!
Beauriful views and Screw Auger Falls was a great place to cool off on a hot day.
Awesome place to hike.
Beautiful place. Easily accessible. Plenty of nice wading pools. Great place to explore the outdoors with family and kids.
Beautiful area.. coming from someone who grew up in Maine and sees this kind of stuff a lot.
Just the byway & highway to take for the scenic route. Autumn grazing for the eyes.
Trip to this place will be worth it. It was an amazing experience.. loved the vibe and fall season is the real beauty of the place. The screw sugar falls is amazing. You can take some amazing pictures there. The falls is right near the parking so it’s not a long trail.
Absolutely breathtaking. This was my 2nd trip there. It's so beautiful and peaceful
So much natural beauty that it never gets old
Beautiful scenery
Excellent place for outdoor activities like hiking. Lots of trails and other history stuff as well. The Moose cave, the falls, Table Rock to name a few places. And great access to the AT. Huge parking area.
Beautiful place
Quite peaceful rds
As an AT thru-hiker this place feels like home.
Lots of gorgeous waterfall and cave turnouts here. Wish we could have hiked more of it. So glad we came to this area on our Maine adventure
The climb to the top of Old Speck was harder that I thought it would be but the view from the top of the tower is incredible!
stunning natural and untouched beauty.
Nice spot to visit, not far from the road. Paved parking.
Beautiful place. Great place for walking great place for pic family visiting and family together day
Such an amazing place to go to sew untouched beauty. Trails in the area cater to both amateurs or advanced climbers/hikers. Mahoosuc notch and Mahoosuc Lands also do a great job in the area. Recommend the waterfalls for those who want easy trails and a day in the shade, recommend Puzzle mountain, Baldplates and Old speck for those who want a rigorous but doable day hike.
Table Rock is a moderate two mile round trip hike with a great view of Grafton Notch
Wonderful views, reasonable infrastructure.
It's startling how steep it is!
Beautiful state park! We went to see Screw Auger Falls, which was absolutely gorgeous, but found some really great hiking trails too! There are picnic tables set up throughout the park which was nice and there are also pit toilets, which aren’t the best, but are definitely better than nothing! We actually ended up staying overnight in our van at the Screw Auger Falls Parking Area. We read online that overnight camping was allowed, but didn’t see anything posted one way or another, so took a chance. Very peaceful and safe. Great waking up right next up to a waterfall! This place is wonderful!
Great hike with a great view along the Appalachian trial.
It sure looks wonderful from the pictures but I never really made it there. Time did not permit
Great place to spend a day roaming the trails with family and friends..... pay close attention to your little ones as there are a few high spots to fall from... bring your swimming trunks as there are a few spots to take a dip
