REVIEWS OF Colby Museum of Art IN Maine

Naida Lehmann

Outstanding, free to the public, museum. Rather than hocking art donations like Harvard does, Colby builds additions. Spacious and beautifully curated. Has hundreds of Whistler works. Several artists donate their work, e.g. Alex Katz. Has a small coffee and snack shop. I love this museum, and visit every time I'm in Maine. I could go on and on with praise. Have posted my favorite work.

Shelly Burnett

Horrible disappointment...the artwork was less artistic than kindergarten art work! I feel like I wasted my time. Thankfully it's free.

Keegan Poulin

Great service there. The place is huge. Will take an hour atleast to look at everything. Plus the have a little food stand

Jacob F. Tande

Beautiful place. Welcoming and free to all. Lots of activities for kids especially on weekends. If you want to learn something about the history of Maine, come here!!!

Cheryl Ramsdell

Joshua Weston

Great tour with a knowledgeable guide and great accommodations for the 3rd grade class we brought.

Matt Johnson

If you enjoy art, it has a nice collection. I'm not an arts person.

Jonathan Appleyard

Wonderful though partially closed off for a new exhibition. Probably hung by now March 1 2019.

Excellent displays and education. Instructors very informative

Joel Shapiro

Beautifully arranged and presented artworks of various types, eras, artists. The current special exhibit shows artworks by numerous Native American artists from Maine groups. The museum is free and is quite welcoming.

Armeen Ghafourpour

Great museum with collections of modern, American, folk, western, sculpture, photography, world art, and more. Admission is free which is always a plus. I think you could really see everything in the museum in about 3 hours. Parking is plentiful and there is a small gift store and Cafe on site. Definitely recommended!

Danielle Snyder

Great place to visit, free, plenty to see and good for older kids.

Really cool stuff in there

Michael Morse

Free, great selection of art. Awesome photo exhibit right now.

Adriana Pellegrini

Free museum; well curated; good for an hour or three, depending on how many plaques you choose to read. Look for the horse weather vane exhibit.

Bruce Dawson

Place is a lot larger than I thought with great exhibits.

Dan Bloomer

This museum is such a treasure that we locals take for granted,- or shall I say this particular one has. The permanent collection is incredibly deep but/and there are always new installations of contemporary work that need to be seen. Right now there are 2 new exhibits that just knock my socks off. One an archive of 2700 plus photos and graphics from African-American publications from 50’s and 60’s. The other is the work of a South African (trans?) woman photographer. The photos are all self portraits with fabulous variations in adornment referencing traditional African culture.

Dan Fournier

Good muséum stuff

Butch Dawbin

Gorgeous art and outstanding collection a must see if you in the Waterville area

One of the best US university museums. Free admission and parking on campus. Comprehensive collections of German Expressionism and John Marin. Very informative and educating. Spent 3 hours.

Jeff Howe

Small but nice art museum on the Colby College campus. Featured exhibit was a sports photography show, lots of personalities from the 60's to the 80's. Several small John Singer Sargent paintings, less conventional than his more well known portraits we a pleasant surprise. Enjoyed this on the overnight stay on the Trek Across Maine, a nice respite, with espresso in the museum cafe.

Mary Linda Mahoney

This is a most impressive museum on a beautiful college campus. The collection is extensive, and the layout is slightly complicated, but we'll worth the visit.

Randy Campbell

Not big, but we'll done, free, nice people.

Julie Rosenfeld

Wonderful small museum. Also very cool during the heat wave. A great place to spend an afternoon.

Dave Epstein

Accessable, wide variety of art. Several sculptures as well. One of the best collections American Art you will find. Changing exhibits.

This is a very professional art museum with an impressive collection. Parking is free but a little tight during the semester but worth the effort.
