Crystal Onyx Cave, not to be confused with onyx cave, was an amazing experience! Family-owned and operated, this cave offers you the best bang for your buck, for sure! You have your option of two different tours, you see formations as soon as you enter the cave, the tour guides are funny and knowledgeable, and no need to make reservations in advance like Mammoth Cave. If you want a great cave experience, you NEED to visit Crystal Onyx!

Wonderful time with the family at this privately owned cave. Many beautiful formations to see-much more than in Mammoth Cave. Our guide, Gwen, was great and good with the kids! Two tours available. We did the upper tour, but the lower tour sounded great as well. Maybe next time!

Visited Kentucky to see caves for the first time. We tried Mammoth cave too and Crystal Onyx was so much more alive and welcoming. The owners and guides are so sweet and very knowledgeable about thier beloved cave. This cave is the most beautiful we saw in the area and I would definitely recommend both tours! Beautiful caves and a fun gift shop for families. But the staff that were there this morning were not happy campers. The lady that was checking out our tickets had the worst attitude and needs to work on her people skills, it put a sour spin on the whole rest of our tour and really turned off me and my husband from going there again. Looks like mammoth caves is the move for next time.

This place is amazing! It is so worth your time and the charge is incredibly reasonable!! Each tour is about an hour. DO BOTH and you get a deal on the price. More than that, you get an amazing experience. I also did tours at Mammoth Cave, but this one was really, really special and beautiful. GO!!! The people who do the tours are the family who own the cave and have made the cave tourable.

This cave was amazing, so much more to see in this cave. Easy to move through and small groups, we only had 5 people in our group and the guide didn’t rush us through. We spent about 2 hours in the cave. I 100% recommend stopping at this cave and it’s just off i65. Make sure you go to Crystal Onyx Cave, there are many caves in the area so make sure the sign says Crystal Onyx Cave.

This is a must see attraction!!! Very up close and personal experience inside the cave. Tour guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. I really enjoyed the smaller amount of people in the cave that was I the group. They have a upper and lower tour. I hope that we will be able to go back to experience the lower level. The trails were groomed perfect. You can see that that alot of time and effort went into making sure the experience is great!!! Thank you to the owners for a fun family time.

This is a family owned and run business, and the sense of knowledge, ownership and care really shines through in the guided tour. The group sizes are smaller than in Mammoth Cave, as is the cave itself, which leads to a more intimate tour of the splendour the cave has to offer. Level of difficult is easy to moderate, and there are no tight squeezes, so the tour is suitable for all but the most infirm or unfit individuals.

It was a very charming place and had a lot of character to it. They were very good with kids and included everyone. You could definitely tell that they were proud of their place and that to me means a lot. Highly recommend this cave over any of the other ones in the area! Also had great formations.

We recently visited Crystal Onyx Cave! This is definitely a must see cave adventure. Our tour guide Cheryl was very informative and knowledgeable of this beautiful cave. She made it a fun adventure for us. We highly recommend this tour. The owners Scott and Sara, with the help of others have put a lot of work into making this a safe place for all to enjoy. Truly glad we came this cave truly is spectacular. The mighty tights were beautiful! Loved how the tour guide Gwen took her time and allowed us to stand a bit, gaze a bit and take in the beauty surrounding us. Lots to see in this well lit, led lighted, cave. Totally different than Mammoth Cave. We took our 9 year old and 5 year old, both could easily walk the stairwell and cave within. They also enjoyed this place and really felt included in the tour. Crystal Onyx is one of those experiences you remember for a lifetime. They safely get you up close and personal with the geology. The walking paths are impeccably groomed (someone on our tour came in flip-flops with no trouble). Tours going all day long (call ahead to check your specific time) so you can easily stop by on your next road trip.

We did mammoth caves and Crystal Onyx caves in the same day. We actually liked Onyx Cave better. If you've never done a cave tour, this is a good one to do. You can get closer to the formations and the groups are smaller.

Gwen was amazing. We have been to Meramec Caverns in Missouri a few times, one being just a few weeks ago. I think that COC is far superior. You are up close and personal with some of the most amazing formations ever. Gwen our guide was fun, knowledgeable, sweet, and caring. Much preferred to mammoth cave. I would say this is a not miss if your coming to town— especially if you want to see some RARE and GORGEOUS CAVE FORMATIONS. This place was amazing! It was reasonably priced, and we didn’t have to make reservations. Tour size was small so we weren’t rushed and we got great photos. We got our tour from one the caves owners and it was fascinating hearing all the work they have done to redevelop this natural beauty. We also bought some great stones from the gift shop. Best part, is it wasn’t all commercialized and had a ma-and-pa feel... you can tell their passionate about conserving their historically precious cave!!

This was a great “quick stop” tour. No reservations needed. We got there with our family of five and was told about a 20 minute wait which was great! Tour guide was knowledgeable, courteous and funny. Great history lesson on the cave and it’s location. The cave is great and lots of formations. Very active as well! Our favorite part of the cave was seeing the activity of it as well as the variety of the different areas. We were in town for the Mammoth Cave tour and needed something to do the day before. I would recommend everyone try this place out as it was very convenient!!

This place was amazing! Our guide, Cheryl, was really informative and fun! The tour isn't strenuous - our five year old did just fine with the walking. Plus, we learned a ton about caves. Kudos to Scott and Sarah for reopening this cave. I can't imagine all the work their entire family has put in to make this such a spectacular place.

If you want to see really awesome cave formations than this is the cave for you. There are larger caves in the area but there is not much to see in them. Plus you get run through them so quickly you don't have time to look at anything anyway. These two caves have more to see in just a few steps than you might see in all of Mammoth Cave. The tours are friendly are affordable. You defiantly get your moneys worth. The nice folks at Crystal Onyx cave stay open late so you can come after all of the other caves have closed. This place has a lot of personality and the story behind it is really interesting. We were so happy with our tour that we came back the next day and did the lower cave. I defiantly recommend this cave to everyone. And especial to people who like active caves with tones of formations.

Crystal Onyx Cave was amazing! Definitely coming back. Our tour guide Gwen was amazing and explains the history of this spectacular cave very well. Scott (the owner and renovator ) did a fantastic job on lighting, pathways, etc. The prices were very reasonable and the gift-shop rocks looked spectacular. Usually in caves you don’t see very many animals but in crystal onyx cave you will see many such as salamanders, cave crickets, and even bats. In the tour there also wasn’t many people which made it great for me. Considering the cave just opened back up May 2018 this cave is amazing. Also the cave is family owned and the tour guides are family and friends. This was great keep it up!

Not a bad trip. We stumbled upon it looking for something extra to do after dinner. The cave is small but has dinner nice formations. Your going to be charged an extra 3% if you pay with a credit card.

Definitely one of the best we have ever seen and we have seen a lot of caves! The black-light shows home much of this caves is alive and well. Our guide was full of energy and gave us lots of interesting information. There is no way you can see everything in one tour of this cave. Of all the caves in the area this is making the competition look mediocre and that says a lot!

Absolutely beautiful ❤ There are quirky unique decorations before you enter the cave. The view looking down from the mountain is amazing. It's a family owned & operated business. More affordable than other cave tours in the area. Tour guide is very knowledgeable & has an adorable sense of humor. Would highly recommend!! Bring a jacket because when you go in the cave it's cold ( around 50 some degrees.)

Nearby 2 mammoth cave, this is a must see as well. Although more compact, you get an excellent walkthrough and description of the incredibly unique geological features you don't see in mammoth cave because it's just too big! This is close up and personal to some of the most unusual cave formations you'll ever see. Privately owned by a family who loves caves and has put their heart and their hard work into it, it's worth the $13 a person. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and I would go back again some day.

Holy cow! The well known cave was booked solid all weekend which we didn't expect so we had to come up with alternate places and this is a must see!!! I would definitely come back when I have a chance. The cave might be shorter, but you can come here to see things that aren't even present in Mammoth Cave.

This was our first time to Cave City. We were only traveling through town for 1 night. We decided to visit Crystal Onyx Cave because they are open til 7pm. We did the 1 hour tour of the cave. It was extremely cool! Gwen was a wonderful tour guide! She is great with the kids and makes lots of jokes. She really knows her stuff about these caves. She loves what she does and makes the tour fun and interesting. Sarah in the gift shop was very nice as well. She was very helpful and talkative as well. I would say this cave is definitely worth coming to. It is easy to get to from the hotels off the interstate. I hear this cave is open later than the other caves too. Our whole family enjoyed this experience!

Have been to many caves through the years. As a privately own cave they have done very well to take care of it. They have 2 tours which wasn't explained when we bought our tickets and they don't have a combo ticket to make it cheaper to do both. So we only took the first tour. Would have done both. Further, they had a new guide which was a family member. She did OK but could.not explain some of the formations. Though I think she will do better after doing it awhile. She stated that she lived in the area all her life but never had been to Mammoth cave. How odd. Over all great place and wasn't to long that older people can't handle it other than going to.and from the ticket area to the cave. Some might have a callenge.

Just GREAT off the path place to go and see a spectacular cave. A LOT better than booking one thru the park system. Caves are better believe it or not. Owners are super friendly. Be careful, there is another place with similar name they told us. We saw that one passing by, we heard it wasn't as good.

Best cave in the area to see a ton of stalagmites and stalactites! Formations are beautiful and tours are well presented. Not a difficult tour but backpacks are not allowed as there are narrow passages. We saw many caves in the area including those in Mammoth Cave Park, and this is easily top 3!! May be small but you will see so many more formations, up close!

This is an amazing family owned cave. I have been to many caves throughout the Midwest. You can tell there has been many long nights and hard work put in to having a great guest experience! If I go that way again, I will be sure to make this a stop. The owner's sister gave us a tour and was very knowledgeable! We showed up later than intended and close to closing time, and they offered us a tour anyways. Very amazing people who are working hard to preserve Earth's natural wonder, and share it with others. I enjoyed the experience and have not had any like it in other caves. This is a must if traveling to the area!!!

Fun tour - beautiful formations, wet cave, punny and informative guide, lights off moment, and family friendly. We were given multiple breaks in the tour to spend time looking at the formations which made the experience even more personal. There were 6 adults and two young children on the tour and our guide, Ruth, kept everyone interested and entertained. During our second day of cave experiences we kept talking about how much more interesting the time would have been had Ruth been with us.
