I could sit in front of Monet's Water Lilies for hours! I also really enjoy sitting in the atrium and listening to the fountain. There are plenty of sitting areas if you want to sit back & enjoy the art, or just need a rest. Some of the sitting areas even have a place to charge your phone. We have to make this one of our stops each time we visit KC. Just Beautiful! ❤️

Great art museum. Impressive collections thanks to the benefactors. Parking garage is $10, cafe is wonderful but a little spendy. Phenomenal gift shop.

Mateo F

Great, 10 buck parking. Always a good time, they seem to have more fun and interactive stuff for the kids.

Shira Cross

I love me a free expansive art museum with giant shuttlecocks. When visiting KC, the Nelson-Atkins is a must! Honestly, I probably could have spent a couple days here. There are so many exhibit halls from photography to ancient Asia to classic paintings to furniture. There's certainly something here for everyone... and again, for free! Though, of course, donations are appreciated and the rotating special exhibitions cost a little dough. You'll find artists from locally cherished Midwesterners to household icons (Lichtenstein, Warhol, Rembrandt, Monet) and up-and-coming contemporary artists manipulating all mediums. There's also artist-themed mini golf, a cafe, restaurant, museum gift shop, and all the other things that round out a day or two for locals and tourists alike.

eerian sadow

Theres always something awesome going on at the Nelson. And even if its crowded, it's never overwhelming or so full of people you cant do things. There was a small wait for most holes at the mini golf exhibit because its interactive, but never more than five minutes that I saw.

Joe Cordaro

Incredible museum for free! The building is beautiful with huge marble columns, fresco ceilings and art deco finishes. Worth visiting just for the architecture. Bonus is that the collection is deep, rich and totally A class art work.

Eleanor B

I have always enjoyed this museum. Good for quick visits or taking the day to really just slowly take in all of the exhibits. Several times during my visit kids set off alarm. None of the staff was rude while addressing appropriate behavior. Nice place to vist.

Matthew Steven

This is such a cool place. Lots of cool things to see inside and outside. Highly recommend for anyone. Great for kids and adults.

Great museum. A wonderful collection of arts from different places and cultures. It's amazing how they are able to allow admission for free.

Mz. Kue

Lots of amazing artwork to see! If you're a collector or a historian needing to gather actual visual of the body work from a class assignment through structual studies... This is the place to be! Lots of diverse background sections specified for selections made easy to find! Grab a map and seat study you're location well. Easy to get turned around if you're going to lay eyes on "everything" to be seen. Fortunately there are quite a few knowledgeable friendly folks there to answer questions. Hard to tour in one day so get there early

Janos Perkins

Fantastic museum and it was free! Really enjoyed wandering around the museum and all the different types of art. They have art from lots of regions of the world. They have well known artists to less known ones and art from BC to more modern times. There is also traditional canvas art, woven art, sculptures, and decorative plates, and furniture. There is a cafe and the grounds outside are beautiful and would be great for a picnic. I’ll definitely be back.

Don Vu

Extensive arts collections, I walked briskly and only was able to glance through the main floor. Will be back to view the other two floors and learn about the art pieces. Free admission and parking. I have been to some metropolitan museums and this one is of high caliper both for the arts and for the information.

Lisa Fountain

Our art museum is really amazing. It is so much fun! The architecture of the museum itself is so impressive. You could spend all day there and still not see everything!

Farfum Ladroma

Great place to explore with the family. The museum is free to the public except for some exhibits. The outdoor art sculptures are also fun to explore with the kids free to run around. A must see when visiting KC.

H Halverson

This is a must see when you are in Kansas city and I would recommend it to people that don't consider themselves "Art" people. The best part is, it is always free to see everything (about 95%) but the tour exhibit. I am not generally an "art" person and always enjoy going to Nelson Atkins because it is not just paintngs but everything from a mummy to silver plates, to Greek and Roman sculptures and modern paintings. If you want to take your time and look at each piece you should give yourself at least 6 hours to see everything. If you look while continually walking you can get through everything in about 2 hours (but that is really moving). My recommendation is to look at the map and go to the sections that interest you and then leave when you are tired. If you have kids hit the outside exhibits like the glass maze and giant Birdies to wear them out before going inside. Kids will find things they like and the staff doesn't over hover kids given there are no barriers between people and the art for many of the rooms. Parking on the streets around the museum is free but watch the signs for hours and no parking areas to prevent a ticket. Parking in the museum garage costs but is more convenient. The restaurant in the museum is supposed to be very good though I have never eaten there.

Elizabeth Gatlin

Museum is free, parking is not. . .It was $10 for the garage so not bad if you are going to spend a day. And you easily could. Lots to see. So many Madonna and Child exhibits! However, it was interesting to compare and contrast them.

Mayleen Hadley

Beautiful place to go with family, friends to have fun and explore all the diffrent art or just have picnic outside

Jennifer Miller

There is always amazing stuff going on at The Nelson. All of the events and exhibitions they have offer opportunities to see and do new things every time you go. I just went to the 30 Americans exhibit, which was heart-wrenching, breathtaking and inspiring all at once. The museum is too big to see all in one visit so it's always fun to go back and catch what you missed.

GABRIELA ESPINO

This place had free admission and only several exhibits charged a small fee. The place is enormous so take comfortable shoes and/or stroller for kids. Great experience!

Arleen Burciaga

Very organized and clean museum. There are so many types of art its amazing.

Austin Mertz

I visited the Nelson and was immediately greeted by a very friendly man at the front door. I was pleasantly surprised buy the large variety of art (both style and time period) considering the location and free entry. The free admission makes up for the paid parking (which is in a shaded garage), which I think was somewhere in the neighborhood of $5-10 for our visit. My favorite section is the ancient Egyptian and Greek art. I also really liked the section that is dedicated to art that was stolen by Nazis because it connected history and art so well together. I definitely recommend the Nelson if you have the time!

Nola Dybvig

Lots of awesome stuff to look at! They have activities for kids and scavenger hunt! They also have chairs you can grab and take with you and they give you access to strollers for free!

Andrew Vigliaturo

Love our museum. So much going on. It's free! Make multiple trips .. come for lunch... Enjoy this place!

Just Trash

This place is just amazing, with the beautiful art, to the wonderful sculptures, it's just all so spectacular. I only went to the part about Egypt amd Greece. I want to see more! I also love how we actually got to see a real mummy! I really wanted to see more. The outside of the museum is just beautiful. To the glass maze, the foil tree, those big rows of rocks, it's just all so amazing. Would come here again soon as possible!

Did I seriously not review this place immediately? It was amazing. I'm not a museum goer, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Same goes for my parents and girlfriend. First off, it's FREE. The museum lives off donations, so you can literally walk right in. Much respect and appreciation to the donors who support this place. Parking was $10, very fair. They have so many different exhibits. Modern, abstract, European, American, Native American, Asian... And that's all while we were there. They rotate exhibits, and keep things fresh for consistent visitors. It's possible to see the entire museum in a single day or even a few hours if you're quick, but it has the ability to pull you back again and again due to its accessibility and content. We heard this as a recommendation from multiple people when visiting KC, and we'll continue to promote it ourselves as long as we are in the area or know people who are visiting.

Danielle Farr

30 Americans exhibit was AMAZING! EMOTIONAL! THOUGHT PROVOKING! BEAUTIFUL! POIGNANT! REVEALING! GIVES VOICE TO THE STRUGGLE!

Megan Soukup

Fabulous collection and all for free! Special exhibits cost you but are usually well worth the money. Apart from the art pieces, the museum is very community oriented and wants to get people involved. The amount of programs and interactive spots is amazing! Well done in making art interesting for younger ones while keeping the aesthetic for real aficionados.

Rhonda Holman

Saw the 30 Americans show, which was wonderful. I knew the title of the show and I was already familiar with 3 of the artists featured. However, I didn't know that ALL the featured artists were African-American. Having an African-American woman guide our tour was a plus because her commentary included pertinent personal reactions to the work and the gallery's selection process. Another experience that adds to my high opinion of Julian Z, the gallery's director.

IIIRadar III

Beautiful museum. All of the staff are helpful and knowledgeable and they have fantastic exhibits year round as well as great events outdoors. Dogs are also allowed out in the sculpture garden.

Paul Zinnel

I could not believe that this place was free. The collections were impressive and the building was organized very nicely. Also the grounds were very pretty. I didn't have enough time to explore them as much as I wanted to so I'll definitely be back. The building and grounds are pretty enough that there was tons of wedding parties out taking photos. Overall very impressed. If you live in KC you should definitely check it out and it's definitely worth a stop if you're just visiting.

kem magee

Free family fun. I have three children under the age of 8, and each one of them really enjoyed the museum. There are activities to do, such as a scavenger hunt and crafting tables, not to mention all the art work that surrounds you with beauty while you walk around. My sister fell while here, and the staff was amazing. First aid was given and they were very through.

Lakena Marsh

This place is beautiful!! I'm not an art enthusiast and it drew me in! The free tours are phenomenal as well.

Bret P

This museum is absolutely amazing. It's the best art museum I've ever been to and it's enormous. We tried to do the entire museum in a day, but really you probably want to split it into a multi day visit This museum basically is 4 giant museums since it is double floored and multiple sections. They have great paintings, Indian artworks, religious artwork and so much more. I wish I had pictures to send but this is a stunning museum with so many famous artists. It's free to visit and a must go to. I'm not sure how much the art is valued at, but it's sensational to check out. I wish this museum was in my city.

Nicholas Williams

An amazing museum, excellent exhibits, and host to great local events for the community. Perfect photo op on the lawn and a great place to unwind on a nice day, this has become a favorite for my family and friends. You can come back and …

Kimber Mata

We visit this museum several times each year. It's free to get in but the parking garage does charge a fee. We enjoy going and spending the day. There is restaurant in the old section of building as well a coffee shop in the new section. Go, wander around and enjoy a fantastic wide selection of art.

lovie bey

A great museum. I think it is the third best in the US they said. They have a real Egyptian mummy. There was a cool exhibit called 30 Americans that was artwork by African Americans. It was a one of the exhibits that was there for a short time. They are having an Egyptian temporary exhibit coming next. This is in addition to the permanent Egyptian exhibit they have. The museum itself is beautiful and a work of art. There is a sculpture garden outside that is worth seeing.

Rory Colbert

I'm a big fan of art museums and the Nelson is fantastic. With the addition of the Bloch art wing, the Nelson-Atkins collection covers all genres well. The Oriental collection, which includes a vast collection of Chinese and Japanese …

Matthew Bridegroom

The addition is beautiful and there is a variety of art from across centuries. Recommend going at night to see the museum glowing in the landscape.

Deb Leinen

Very impressive! It was a cozy atmosphere, but we were able to see SO many different types of artwork! I loved my afternoon there and would love to come back again.

Olivia Williams

I hadn't visited in years, and had a wonderful time this past weekend. I loved walking around and seeing all the beautiful art. I also appreciated that parking was super easy, and how the clean the bathrooms were. It is a great place to spend the afternoon with kids. My 7, 4, and 2 year old all had fun running around in the court yard. All the staff we came across was super friendly, and helpful.

I’ve been coming here for many years on a regular basis. This place has really helped form my appreciation for art. They have a deep collection across a variety of mediums and periods. Many, many gems in every corner of the galleries. I especially appreciate the museum’s engagement with the community that brings in all sorts of new visitors. This art is for everyone and the museum always works toward that end. Thank you, Nelson-Atkins!

Jodi Jones

Blown away by the size of this museum. I was on a road trip and went hours out of my way to visit this museum and I am super happy I did. So much spectacular art. Some of the pieces like Caravaggio have groups of people surrounding them while others like Bosch are hidden away and no one seems to care or notice. Found lots of wonderful pieces on commission by local artists for sale in the gift shop also. I have never spent so much in a museum gift shop before (except maybe at the Prado.) Looking forward to visiting again sometime.

jordan knapp

Amazing experience. Easily 3 hrs to see everything. Second time coming to see it and we still found things we had not seen. Hard to believe it is free!!!

Christopher M Overton

Great place to visit for day trip. Various works of art both modern and old from lesser known and well known artists alike. Try the courtyard cafe for lunch.

Tristyn Goebel

I've been coast to coast and have visited many museums in the process. The Nelson-Atkins his hand down one of my favorite museums of all time. Staff is super nice. Amazing variety of exhibits and pieces.

Brickelle Melton

This was my second time here. I came to this museum on a field trip in highschool over 10 years ago, and it was even better than I remembered. The art is fantastic, the facilities such as the bathrooms are impeccably clean and tidy. They really have a breathtaking collection, from American to Chinese, European to Indian, and even Egyptian art, so be sure to check it out if you ever find yourself in the area. A few big names they have in their collection are Monet, Degas, Van Gogh, and O'Keefe.

Jennifer Neitzer

Ericka DeVille

Love the Nelson. They keep it fresh and have frequent exhibits. It's very pretty and well maintained. It's a gem of Kansas city and a great place to relax and think.

jodi cantrell

I love this place. There are so many cool and nice pieces on display. It's a great way to learn about different painters and artist throughout history. My favorite is always the Egyptian time period. However, this time I went and experienced the Chimacloud which was really cool.

Hue Gia Gerry Nguyen

Nice place. We just walked around outside. Very nice stroll. The glass labyrinth was super cool but definitely enter at your own risk and hold onto those kiddos.

Brianca Johnson

An absolutely wonderful museum with enriching exhibits. People from all walks of life will love this place. Went to the KC Big Picnic and to see the 30 Americans exhibit this summer and was completely blown away by both. Lots of family friendly activities and events offered. Outdoor grounds are beautiful and the museum staff is very welcoming!

Hart Mind Soul

This is probably my favorite art museum in the country. Pay for parking and stay all day. You can get something to eat in the cute cafe and explore the new art wings. With such a great collection there is something for everyone. And if you really can't stand the stuffy art museum atmosphere, head out into the sculpture garden for a round or two of miniature art golf. This is by far, the best way to spend a day in Kansas City, Missouri.

Paul Williams

Recommended as one of the top Art Museums in the country, I had my doubts after living in Washington DC and visiting NYC galleries. I was pleasantly surprised by the modern art in the newer addition. My daughter and I had a great time exploring and reading about the pieces we saw. Also, I was surprised that there wasn't any admission fee to such a great collection of art. This goes along with the welcoming atmosphere that defines KC!

Erin Anadon

Always a pleasure to visit the Nelson! We Love that it's free, with exception of borrowed exhibits. They have frequent festival/celebration days that feature different cultures and we go to those often. The grounds are gorgeous for photos or picnics or just tossing a frisbee or reading a book.

N

So many exhibits to explore! This museum has a little bit of everything for people of all walks of life to enjoy! Definitely by far the best art museum I've ever been to!

D. Wilson

My hometown gallery. I love it deeply. The Assyrian and Egyptian displays are perfect.

Michela Ashlyn

Always a great stop. With the exception of special exhibits, it is free to explore! Also check out the Kemper contemporary collection down the street.

Suzi Howe

So much variety and history. I have gone since my elementary school field trips. This is my favorite! We go every time we are back in town!

Ouran_Rose 18

Amazing!!!!! I love art museums in general and my friends think I'm weird bc of that. But really this art museum was so nice. I really do like it when art museums don't just have paintings but have sculptures and many other forms of art. O would definitely be going there again.

Christopher K

From weird baroque paintings to giant birdies. A really well done Museum. An absolute must visit in the KC area. The entrance fee of exactly $0 was right up my alley. But then you enter and see absolutely world class art and culture pieces. Do NOT skip!

Ashlin Wang

A locals perspective, I lived walking and driving distance away from the Nelson and have always found it a great place to spend time. Beyond the fact that it is a phenomenal museum, it has plenty of space to sit and relax. As you already know, it is free, so I use the space to read to work on my computer, to people watch to picnic, it is a community space that happens to hold great art.

Kirk Wayman

A Kansas City gem that holds its place along side world-known museums of cities twice the size, the architecture alone- both historic original and the critically-acclaimed modern addition- coupled with the extensive grounds makes this a …

Marie Caldwell

Incredible at gallery. The grounds are spectacular. Try out the coffee shop!

Rose Starr

One of the best Art Museums in the World! Classes for any age. Free admission, lots of fun free festivals. New art exhibits all of the time. I've been going here for 50+ years and it amazes me everytime!

Bailey Carter

One of my favorite spots in the city! Beautiful art and exhibits. It’s free or at a low cost to view some exhibits. They host great events too!

Amy Kean

Wow -I do not even know where to begin. The main exhibit space is amazing with art pieces from an incredible range of historical eras and cultural influences. The building itself features architectural detailing just as fine as the pieces it houses. I did not even get to see the entire collection so I am looking forward to visiting again to see more.

Grace Archer

Beautiful museum. Stunning artwork. The staff is always so helpful and knowledgeable. Plan to stay all day if you go, there are so many different periods and types of artwork to see, I've gone twice now and I still haven't seen it all.

Debbie T

Beautiful architecture, both the old and the new sections. World class art, both the permanent and traveling displays. Also I love the Rozell Court Restaurant. Beautiful, relaxing atmosphere in a two story courtyard with a soothing fountain. I have only been for lunch when they serve delicious and creative soups, salads and sandwiches. I have never been disappointed with my selections. When you go, plan on having lunch there. It is truly a treat!

Lindsey Besser

Always an amazing trip work something new to see! On cooler days it is so fun to walk around the sculpture park and when it's warm their permanent correction has something for everyone! The Nelson worse hard to stay relevant; bringing exhibit and events for everyone!

Leslie Parmeter

I go here every chance I get it has some amazing art work and displays a really great cafe

Jeannae Segura Brown

The former mansion of KC Star newspaper owner William Rockwell Nelson, this gorgeous museum covers all the bases of Western Civilization, Asia and the Americas. Affordable food in the cafe, handicap access with scooter rental, coffee shop, bookstore. If its a nice day, walk the grounds for incredible sculpture. I would go everyday if I could. Its a gem,and its FREE!

Timothy Nance

Rozelle court is one of the best cafeteria in the country. Coffee is intoxicating and free refills, I think even better than the coffee shop upstairs. Free cucumber lime, or lemon water. Wonderful patio for a winter break from the gloom or to escape the summer heat yet still enjoy an airy environment.

Apartment Brookside51

Briefly visited inside the museum and will be back to see more. We mainly spent time playing golf on the outdoor course. It was a lot of fun. It was a little expensive for what it is but I still gave 5 stars because we enjoyed it a lot and …

Elizabeth Turk

Very nice museum, huge grounds full of sculptures. There is also an adorable little cafe with really good coffee. And there is a parking garage underneath.

Janet Sitzmann

We are so very blessed to have such a vibrant, dynamic museum of art in Kansas City. And there's so much more to it. The night I went, I enjoyed a chai and gluten free blueberry scone at the coffee shop (DELICIOUS), did a meditative walk through parts of the museum and finished the experience dancing to 'Proud Mary' as part of 'Art and Soul. I invite you to come and create your own special experience.

Austin P.

This is one of the top museums in the country. Fanstic collections of ancient Egyptian artifacts and European Impressionist paintings. There is also wide variety of impressive contemporary art too. To top it off it is completely free admission, absolutely a must see if you are in Kansas City.

Christy A

Finally made my way to Nelson-Atkins for the amazingly profound 30 Americans exhibit! An experience of a life time captured in a beautiful structure. The museum has a great garden area for chill, a walking path, benches, tables, photo ops & even games. Free entrance however main exhibitions may have costs associated with viewing. Guests speakers on schedule, outdoor sculptures, gift shop, garage parking all available for your convenience.

Smells Like Updawg

I mean, come on. It's an art museum. This place slaps. Even if you don't like art. Like me. It's a great time to walk around and make fun of stuff or overly analyze everything as if you know what you're talking about but you actually have no idea. It's great stuff. I think the doorman drank the water that I reluctantly gave him because a no-water policy is a big thing.

Elizabeth Hoskins

I attended a professional development session at the museum and it was wonderful. I left with great lesson plans and feeling refreshed. This resource is free to attend with the exception of parking and special exhibitions. Great for families or school groups!

Sam Patania

I grew up going to this gallery, I LOVE it. My 8 year old loved it! Peaceful and cool with fantastic collections, don't miss it while in KCMO

Caroline Hicks

The activites were well thought out and enjoyable especially the arts and crafts! The dance programs were informative and beautiful.

Jennifer Tufte

I really love the museum. I especially love that the admission is free, so it is a stop I can make with the kids and it doesn't hurt financially. I want to give it five stars, but my son is unable to walk and uses a stroller and this museum is painful for accessibility. I ended up pulling the stroller up a lot of stairs and by the time I got from the bloch building to the main part of the museum I was sweaty and exhausted. I wish there were more ramps around to make it a more inclusive museum. With that being said, we still love it and will still be back.

Rufus St.Clair

My wife and I attended the "Third Thursday" program, which is held on the 3rd Thursday of each month. They had a live band and there were people of all ages there. It was fun listening to them and watching the "young folks" dance. We really enjoyed it and intend on returning soon.

Tim Whitley

I was very impressed by this free, donation only museum. It has an extensive collection which would take multiple days to fully absorb. Particularly good was the Asian wing that included a small Buddhist temple and a massive Buddha. we visited in the winter but I can imagine how the expanse of open area would be a great place to have a picnic or just enjoy a beautiful day. The restaurant inside the museum is quite good and the prices are very reasonable.

Paul Seigfreid

Beautiful museum. Well worth any detour. I love the Classical collection and the Oriental art.

Pam Fuller

Love this place. You can find out how it all came about online. Very interesting.

Faye Sortor

This is a world class museum. There are collections from every era and continent. The quality and range is amazing.

Kathy Moore

I can summarize my visit to the Nelson-Atkins Museum as a very impressive collection in an impressive building. I arrived well before the opening of the museum, which gave me plenty of time to have alook at the various pieces of art in the park in front of the museum. Once inside I marvelled at the paintings, sculptures and other art items inside the museum. I liked the various European art sections and the section with American art the most. There is so much quality art to see that you will be very tired after spending one day in the museum, but you will not have seen everything. An excellent museum.

Prince Ehimamiegho

Beautiful Museum, family friendly. Food service at the restaurant ends at 2pm but deserts & drinks continue till 4pm. Nice place to visit. Staffs are incredibly friendly.

Karina Cid

What a great place to visit! It's an amazing experience to see everything that this museum has to offer.

Denise Sanders

There is a lot to see here. It's a beautiful building with a wide variety of art exhibited. The staff and volunteers are all very friendly. The grounds are beautifully maintained. The museum does a wonderful job of trying to stay relevant in the community by hosting various events and exhibits.

Angela Dugan-Starr

I don’t know if I can say enough wonderful things about the Nelson. First, it’s free to the public. The volunteers are excellent and knowledgeable, and there are so many beautiful pieces that they want to tell you about. When I went most recently, I actually got to put on gloves and touch one of the pieces (The doors of paradise). The outdoor sculpture garden is also extremely beautiful, and lots of local activities are held on the line. It is one of the most beautiful places in Kansas City, and worth the visit if you’re coming from out of town!

L. S.

Awesome museum! I've been to many, many, many museums and this must be the best use of space, best visitor friendly and great collection I've seen. Not too much of each collection, and just enough to give perspective of the time and style of each artist. I highly recommend a visit. I had the best time there. AND admission is free...

Amy Rider

There was so much to see that we didn't get to everyhing in the 2 hours we were there. It is definately at least a half-day visit unless you rush through and don't read anything. The art work is separated into periods which made viewing and reading about it easier. Even the building and room designs we amazing (a bit like a maze), clean and well designed. I will definitely be going back!

Nancy Nang Fong

I did not expect too much from the The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, having visited art museums all over the world, Paris (Picasso Museum), London (Tate Modern), NYC (Guggenheim). And heck was I wrong, this museum was amazing and full of surprises. I cannot wait to see the Queen Nefertari exhibition when it starts in November!

Armando Jimenez

Beautiful museum to explore. Unfortunately my girlfriend and I were pestered by an employee as she kept following us around through the whole museum. We are a young Hispanic couple and she was an older white lady, so I couldn't help but feel profiled. I found it odd because we weren't dressed in any stereotypical "trouble maker" clothing. In fact my shoes alone were more than her weekly salary (I'm still bitter). We never spoke to her or took our phones out either so it didn't add up. I'm not sure if I was paranoid but she made it very obvious by following us and staring at us the whole time we were there. It was very uncomfortable and truly ruined our experience inside, but we had much more fun exploring the beautiful pieces of art outside. I don't typically let one person ruin my experience but I can't imagine this was the first time this lady has done that. I would've highly recommended the museum if it weren't for that mean old lady.

Krista Kielty

What a wonderful find in the heart of KC!! They have a great variety of art including artists such as Van Gough, Picasso, Monet and many Renaissance artists. This is free to the public, and the kids will enjoy the fully armour of the knight on his trusty mount. Make time to view the giant artwork on the lawn too!

Anthony Munns

Wonderful Art Museum with impressions e width and depth from Egytian to Modern. Great for kids. Outdoor sculpture. A delightful cafe with excellent lunch and dinners. Free entry and parking. Paid covered parking.

P A

It's an amazing museum. I have lived in KC for 6 years and went for the first time last year. I had alway just assumed that a free art museum couldn't be that great. I have been back 5 times in the last 9 months. This is a top tier establishment.

Julianna Graves

staff is helpful and friendly, you can tell they love being there, as it is an awesome place to check out. cool gift shop, food court, elevators and the outside beautiful all year around.

Tamala Lyons

The Nelson was hosting the 30 Americans exhibit. It was awesome. Very moving. Extraordinary artists. It was free entry into the museum but the exhibit was $18. I was worth more! My favorite artist was Kehinde Wiley.

Holly McNickle

The campus Itself is beautiful and I'm in love with the Walking Wall that's constantly on the move - it's mindblowing really. My kids, friends & I enjoyed the mini golf course this year AND I learned what those large hornet looking things that I've seen around this year, thanks to a informative sign they put up there, apparently to ease people's minds, and it certainly did mine! It's a wonderful place.

Jagdish Yellesetty

Great museum - our first visit here very impressive. Really has a world class collection.

Pamela Ervin

It was my families first time there,we came in a large group. The young lady outside who led us into the museum was very polite. There other men who were older, not very polite or offered any info at all. They followed us like we were going to steal something. Not a very good experience. The huge yard in the back was Beautiful!

Melisa Dean

Such an under-rated place to visit for us locals! I really think I take for granted the magnificence that-is THE Nelson Atkins Museum... Every visit brings me new inspiration. Seriously high vibrations! 5 stars EASY. Love it.

Ngoc Bich Do

Wonderful collections and exhibitions. The staffs are kind and knowledgeable. I try to check it out and attend cool events every month.

Brady Sullivan

Interesting museum. Enjoyed walking through. Little to large for my taste so i recommended doing research in advance and seeing where you want to go. Or consider breaking it up in to multiple trips.

Kobi Reese

This place is great for visiting. The Art was wonderful to look at and admire. The sculptures, paintings, furniture and so on. I had a good visit here. It was something fun to do and I really enjoyed it. Check out this place if you're ever in town.

Andrew Leonard

Fantastic museum. Free admission year round for everything except one special exhibit hall (and certain events or tours), for the amount and quality of pieces, is crazy. The works do rotate in and out some as well over time. Even the outdoor area is great, with walking trails and sculptures and installations. The food court isn't a 10/10 but it's good food with seemingly good ingredients and the prices aren't even as high as the nearby Plaza restaurants.

This was my daughters' the first trip to an art museum. The exhibits were will arranged and caught the girls' attention from the very start. They asked the docents questions who very politely responded and gave them age appropriate answers. …

You will enjoy the timelessness. Views that will stay with you forever. Take a close look at the architecture and stone carvings, so many to appreciate. I could spend a lifetime here!

I had not been in many years due to moving away from Kansas City, MO. Definitely worth a visit. So many great things to see The special exhibits like 30 Americans and the Walking Wall are fantastic! Everyone should go. Educational and fun!

Most of the museum is totally accessible by anyone for free. Although the mini-golf was unavailable and some rooms reserved for paid tickets, this is an incredible place to wander around and admire all kinds of works of art. The staff is very friendly. Finally, the building is modern and gives off a peaceful vibe, which I really enjoyed.

Such a beautiful place to go and just take a stroll around the area. They keep it really clean. It's so nice seeing a bit of wildlife in the city, little bunnies are everywhere. I love going here and taking pictures. Always see at least 1 couple having a picnic. Gorgeous place!!

This museum is AMAZING!!! Who knew there would be such a fabulous museum in Kansas City?! There is so much great art. You have to go multiple times to see it all. Make a day of it, they have a cafe so you can look at art, take a break for some lunch & walk around some more. The sculpture garden is beautiful. Great for a picnic or to let kids run around & have some fun.
