Elwood is located inside Rieman Gardens on the Iowa State campus near the football stadium. It is a beautiful, relaxing place to visit. You can walk through the butterfly habitat. You wind through beautiful outdoor gardens as you make your way back to Elwood. Expansions and improvements are underway. If you are in Ames, Iowa this is definitely worth a visit.

It cost us $22 for a family of 4. It was a good price for everything we got to see and do. Beautiful photo opportunities. Recommended for families.

Dude...if you like gnomes ..you have to meet Elwood he's the biggest freaking gnome on the planet. He may not be one for conversation but he is cool with taking photos with people. I wish the gift shop had some Elwood specific items to sell like shot glasses or mini Elwood figures...but all in all meeting Elwood was awesome and the gardens there were beautiful.

Kevin McClain

I was not expecting the butterfly arboretum. The gardens, statues and grounds were better than I had expected. We got lots of good information and ideas for our own gardens at home.

Paul Nygren

Worth the trip to Ames.

Murry Meyer

Surprisingly fun

Frank DeLorenzo

Located within a botanical garden, it is really big.

Robert Atzeni

Rainy day and in area for concert a good time killer and a few pics. I thought it was pretty cool. Admission is what it is being privately funded. Do complain just enjoy notice some cheap visitors complaining of the entrance fee get real nothing is free anymore.

Scott Forsythe

Elwood the Gnome is a hilarious touch to a stunning location, and finding him takes you through a storybook landscape with plenty to see.

Bruce Chapin

He resides in a beautiful garden on the Iowa State campus.

Chuck Zinda

We just wanted a photo, but you had to pay $8 admission to the university gardens to see it.

Hip Hopgal

To the person who wrote the review saying its not the largest......they state its the largest concrete gnome and the one you refer to, is the largest scrap metal gnome. I’m team Elwood all the way.

pockmock11

Bigger than I even expected

Mitch Solberg

It's one of those things where you go,"why does this exist?"

Adam Hintz

It adds so much character to the gardens, definitely a must see in Ames! It's included in the admissions to the gardens and butterfly exhibit. The gardens take a few hours to walk through, it's worth the $8 admission! (Free with student ID as well!)

John Hsieh

How are there so many negative reviews for our beloved Elwood?!?! This is just simply unacceptable! Yes, Elwood is located inside Reiman Gardens, and yes, that means a $9 admission price (current 2018 prices) for the public. If you want to see Elwood for free, get an ISU ID or look at all of his posted pictures (one's posted here from me). To my knowledge, Elwood still holds the record for being the world's largest concrete gnome, and he is pretty friggin' big.

We got there at 5 but it closes at 430 and we didn't know it's a paid attraction only!!!! $4 per person!! And you can't even see it outside :(

Andrew Coon

The world's largest garden gnome happens to be in an amazing botanical garden with a large butterfly house. Go to see the gnome, stay for the delight of the rest of the place.
