Well this is a very good Scandinavian museum in the small town of Decorah. Quite a lot of American/Scand heritage items. I liked the top floor and the basement the best. Trunks and furniture items in the basement were very interesting.

First Time to Dechora and the Vesterheim National Norwegian-American Museum & Heritage Center. 09/01/2018. I loved it. Totally worth the $10.00 to gain admission. Exhibits are thoughtfuly laid out and well curated. I love the 17th and 18th century artifacts. Norwegians love to carve and paint wood. FUN.

I find it a great educational place to learn about immigration, early pioneer life and the folk crafts they brought with them. You can take fantastic classes there from people whose craft you would like to learn. For example, there are weaving, rosemaling, wood carving, chip carving, and knife making to name a few.

I'm not a huge museum fan but was blown away by this one. It is so well organized, the displays exceptionally well done and overall it was very engaging. There's an entire log cabin in here, and a handmade boat that crossed the Atlantic. The whole museum is well worth a visit and the people there and at the museum store we're very friendly. Also loved the art gallery part.

A fabulous museum for anyone, not just Norwegian-Americans. With the indoor museum, the outdoor village, and the education center, the Vesterheim has it all. As a Norwegian-American, I learned quite a bit about my family's history and what it must have been like to immigrate to America.

Wonderful collection and lots of great information but was disappointed to find the only way you can see the inside of the open air buildings is to take the tour at 130 PM. This is the only time the tour was offered (but did not see this in print until after getting there). Unable to stay for the afternoon tour so feel like I did not get my money's worth.

A delightful museum. Small enough that you can feel you've seen most of it in one trip (but you won't have seen it all!).
