Cedar Rock and the Walters home is one of Iowa's many hidden jewels. Cool Frank Lloyd Wright design with an amazing, recently restored boat house on the scenic Quasqueton River ("Quasky" if you're a local!) Great staff working with limited resources to protect and share an architectural gem. Kudos to Park Manager Katie and her team for their good work for visitors and the citizens of Iowa!

Gayle Elliott

We visited Cedar Rock this past Saturday, July 13th. We were greeted by friendly, knowledgeable staff. What an incredible opportunity to see a Frank Lloyd Wright house in such original condition, where he not only designed and built the house but the furnishings and decor as well. The tour was fascinating, I can't say enough good things about the experience. We even had a chance to sit in one of the Frank Lloyd Wright chairs, they were covered by a cloth to protect them but - how cool was that! I also must mention Nathan, our guide, he gave a very informative and enjoyable tour. It's a must see. And at a bargain price! They only suggest a $5 donation.

We just happened upon this treasure on our way south for the 2017 Eclipse. It was wonderful. Nathan, our tour guide, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He really added great personal touches to the tour. The property is beautiful. The house is fascinating. Perhaps a bit unique in its size. I highly recommend the tour. Plus- it is much more reasonably priced than many FLW tours.

A wonderful gift to the people of Iowa! Free tours let by very knowledgeable guides. Nathan played a great piece on the home's piano. It was great to visit this Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home. The original interior furnishings are well maintained with the home just as Wright designed it. Well worth the drive from Cedar Rapids for a weekend break.

Great historical park! Lowell & Agnes Walters' Estate built by Frank Lloyd Wright is in the Park & Tours through the home & property offered on the hour. The estate is like going back in time as the home is a Museum. Wright was given all control of exterior, interior design & even the china, glassware , silverware, linens, etc.

Quite the random stop in small town Iowa, but seriously you've gotta stop! In the same vein a wall drug, the signs leading up intrigue and ultimately suck you in. We stopped in on our way back from a road trip up north and were drawn to the place by signage that started seemingly when we began to travel south from Minneapolis. You're greeted in the visitor center where we learned a bit about Mr. Wright, after which you hop on a tractor and mosey on down to the house. The guides take you around the property and inside the home for really as long as your heart desires. FLW as we shall affectionately refer to him as, had a very unique style. The inside of the house is very reminiscent of a boat or train car in how the rooms are set up. The open concept was certainly lost on him as the place is quite cramped. The lighting from the roof and the plants that are ever present are quite nice and certainly unique. Going outside by the water is spectacular and if I were to own such a house, would be the only reason I'd let Mr. LW come and go whenever he pleased (we found out this was one of the requirements for having him design the place). In addition, he chose the dishes and could make changes to the place as he saw fit. All in all, a cool spot designed by a guy who would beat me in an architecture contest. Worth stopping by if you've got the time and/or interest.

This is a must-see for a Frank Lloyd Wright House. A small but completely intact house created by Frank Lloyd Wright.. This has everything that was originally furnished when wright-designed. The tour is free. However they will hassle you for a donation. Nothing wrong with that. If you are a Frank Lloyd Wright fan or simply an architectural enthusiast go see this house. Enjoy the scenic drive to and from in the cornfields of Iowa

Wonderful visit, friendly and knowledgeable park staff and our tour guide Nathan played the custom-made Steinway, bc I'd read other reviewers mentioned it was a nice bonus!

Wonderful place. Great story. Good tour guide

We heard a small trio perform at the Cedar House. It was great. And the house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright was very interesting. Lots of glass. The large spacious living room has glass walls on three sides which offer a picturesque view of the winding Wapsi River below and surrounded wooded area. Each of the bedrooms also have a glass wall. It’s something to see but not that astounding. Still worth a visit. You drive up to the visitors center and park, then you are chauffeured about a quarter mile to the house which is modest by today’s standards but quite the thing when it was built. Touring the one floor house it’s hard not to wish you owned it too entertain guests.

The house is charming. You can really see it all, and you can even try out one of the original chairs.

Wonderful Frank Lloyd Wright gem in the middle of Iowa. Tour guide Katie is hands on at the property and a loving caring caretaker. Details abound including original furniture, clothing belonging to the Walters in the closets and plants in the indoor planters are continued from the original ones. Beautiful river setting. A must see if you are anywhere near the area.
