REVIEWS OF Indianapolis Zoo IN Indiana

Bethel Marcy

Took my 87 year old dad. He loved it. But scooters are a bit pricey as is food. Dolphine show was wonderful.

Lynette Browne

We only visit the zoo about once a year since we live roughly 2 hours away. But my daughter loves it. My only 2 complaints are 1. face painting is WAY too expensive and 2. there is no more big-kid play area. We did just discover the play area at the White River Garden. She had fun there.

Timothy Shockley

They've come a long way but I feel they still have a long way to go too make that zoo better for the animals.. the kids don't see the what I see and they had a good time so that's all that matters I guess.. plenty of fun stuff for the kids to do..

Bonnie Motsch

Get a season family pass otherwise it isn't worth the money. One person can reach up to $30 a person for tickets. The zoo isn't as big as many I have been to but it's still fun. Zoo pass gets parking free too.

Marian Martin

We have a membership which seems to be worth it once you take into consideration parking ($8) and each admission ($28). Kids 2 and under are FREE. Kids love it and with the membership we can go as often as we'd like. Awesome during summer! The zoo is very clean. Staff is always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the animals.

Jo Anne Bath-Miers

The Indianapolis Zoo never fails to fascinate me! The grounds are well-kept, the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and the animals all look happy and content. You should go out and visit, because you won't be disappointed.

Austin Shores

Not the biggest zoo I've been to, but it is very well kept and the animals seem happy and healthy with excellent bonds with their trainers. The food is the price you would expect, but the animals, enclosures, and rides are pleasing to the eye and fun for the whole family. The staff is friendly and informative and your kids can learn a bunch from a visit!

Robert Emmett

While this is not the largest zoo, it still has an impressive array of animals. The layout is easy and flows well. The dolphin show was well worth it.

mrssammonroe

The zoo was very well laid out. Plenty of exhibits to see. Specifically loved the parrots exhibit. It was cool to see cheetahs in person. Butterfly exhibit was outstanding. And we got to see a sloth up close. Will definitely make the trip back here in the future.

Tyesha Candler

Loved it!! Definitely recommend people going. All the animals were beautiful. Didn’t get to see the dolphin though

Tabitha Jackson

We love our hometown zoo! Plenty of indoor and outdoor exhibits. Has had so many renovations in the past five years. Constantly evolving. Always a different visit. The White River Gardens are also included with your zoo admission, dont skip it. The dolphin dome is magical!

Laurence Wachs

Always something great going on at the zoo and Zoo Boo is nothing other than amazing. Seeing all the kids and ostumes is a treat in itself. We all had a wonderful time walking around and enjoying the sights at the zoo with family. I was a special day indeed.

JASON Greenlee

Enjoyable with the TAP it makes it so you can ride every ride and do the bird feedings. Super great for kids and the whole family.

Richard Payne

This zoo is a great place to take kids. In addition to all the usual animals at a zoo, they have a dolphin show which is included with admission (be sure to get there early as these tickets are first-come). The African Plains exhibit is very good, and they have a fun Orangutan exhibit which allows them to climb up outside on large cables. In the summer you can visit the butterfly exhibit. The zoo is a little expensive, so if you plan on going multiple times in a year, I would recommend the zoo annual pass. Also, the zoo train ride (extra charge) gives you a tour of the back of the zoo, so don't expect to see any animals while riding the train.

Carlene Baurichter

What a lovely zoo! My husband and I loved our experience here. I loved being able to walk through the aviaries as well as the dolphin tank that you can walk beneath. The zoo was very clean and the staff was welcoming. I enjoyed hearing a zoo chat about meerkats as well. My husband and I ran out of time before we could see the butterflies, but I hope to visit again and see them!

Kevin Perry

What I remember most about it was enjoying the time with my mom and shopping in their gift shop. They had fabulous animals in their most like home, original, suitable, indigenous habitats. Good zoologists and gift shop sales personal.

Charles McGinley

Love the zoo but it's pretty expensive if you've got a bigger family. Best deal is by a season pass if you know you're going to go more than once a year. Kids loved every exhibit from feeding the Giraffe, petting the sharks, watching the

Alexandra Green

The Indianapolis Zoo is one-of-a-kind! My kids absolutely love going but there is quite a bit of walking. I'd recommend packing your own food and drink and bringing a stroller or wagon for smaller kids.

Sean Gibbons

Wonderful facility! Everything was close so the walk was not intolerable. The desert was beautiful! Nice to see the reptiles out instead of being in glass aquariums. All the animals and habitats were clean and out for you to see! Staff was incredible!!!!!

Natalie Gerardo

My kids and I love visiting the zoo. We have a membership and try to come as often as possible. The Zoo Boo exhibit is going right now. We enjoyed the extra activities and loved all the Halloween decorations.

Elaine Richard

We had a very nice time even tho it sprinkled rain a few times. But the whole zoo was very clean. We were a bit disappointed with the train ride bc it didn't go anywhere with a view of animals. But our 4yr old granddaughter liked it. All in all it was a fun day.

Emily Sampson

The Indy Zoo is such a great place to take our three young children! It is clean and full of activities for all ages. We can never get through the whole zoo in one visit, so we see different things every time we go. Every exhibit is easy to get to, and it's easy to find your way around without getting lost. The butterfly exhibit was especially beautiful!

Alison Day

The Indy Zoo was small, but very nice. The orangutan exhibit was incredible. The only negative was that the tickets were super expensive compared to zoos of a similar size. It may have been because Boo Zoo was happening that day.

Katherine Jones

I would give it 5 stars, because the zoo itself was amazing, but the staff wasn't. Every staff member we ran into acted like they hated being there. We bought a $4.00 bag of popcorn and the girl didnt smile or even thank us. It's a shame because the zoo is nice. Prob wont go back.

Shona Moreland

I went to the Zoo Boo twice, because it is so many fun activities for my grandkids! They danced; visited treat stations; colored pumpkins; rode the train; visited the animals and so much more!!! The Zoo Boo is a fun event! If you haven't been yet, you need to go! You don't want to miss it!

Chathurika Srimali Abeykoon

A very good place to spend a whole day with fun and knowledge. Dolphins shows, rides, touching animals and plants is great. We loved the dolphin show a lot and it is worth seeing. They have a good collection of animals from elephants to frogs. Affordable priced tickets and well maintained. The aquarium is wonderful.

Chelsea Juiliano

This zoo is amazing. The employees are super friendly and knowledgeable about the animals. Its very clean (even the bathrooms). The dolphin and dog shows were extremely worth attending. I'd recommend this zoo!!! It's worth the money!

David Johnson

Loved it! The membership is useless unless you plan on going more than once because it doesn't really get you anything extra. Use coupons and buy tickets in advance to save money. The zoo in itself is fantastic with tons of things for kids to do. Where else can you touch a shark.

Brian Meyers

Is pretty fantastic!!!!! We live in St Louis so we go to the st. Louis Zoo all the time. I've been to the San Antonio Zoo the zoo in New Orleans and the Indianapolis Zoo and the Indianapolis Zoo is the only thing that compares to St Louis and may even be better. I think it was a little under 250 for four of us to get in for everything. That came with a dolphin show which was fantastic no others who I've been to has that it also came with feeding giraffes and a pretty amazing ride that you got into that picks you up like a roller coaster and rode you around the entire park while at the same time giving you the opportunity to see orangutans and other Apes climb out of their cages which was pretty fantastic.

Daniel Ulanicki

Not a huge zoo, but does check many of the animal check boxes. One of the few zoos that still has elephants. The dolphin exhibit does rival sea world with the underwater dome. The penguin exhibit is designed to keep the penguins active and not just sitting in the ledge like found in other zoos. The train ride is okay. Kids will like it since it’s a train ride. Too bad it doesn’t go through any exhibits; instead, goes to the back lot. The highlight is where they fill up the zoo vehicles with bio diesel. Which is sourced from the greasy food offered at the zoo. I didn’t see any healthy options besides a $4 bottle of water.

Nicole

Always a great time getting to see so many amazing animals. We were able to see the bears wrestle in the water this time. The chats are a wonderful educational addition.

Brittney Wall

Love love love this place. I have season pass and go all the time. Very friendly, very well maintained.

Isabelle Smith

This is a wonderful zoo! So many animals are being helped by their conservation and rescue efforts and most animals have plenty of space in their encampments. The setup for the zoo is easily walk-able.

Josh Keyes

A great zoo. If you're ever in Indianapolis and have kids you should check this place out. It's got so many amazing areas. There are so many animals it's crazy. It's the best zoo that I've ever been to. You should also try to see the dolphin show. They ask you what show time you want when you enter.

Ryan Blair

Everything was amazing, dolphin show was awesome! I would recommend skipping the train ride though, it needs a ton of improvement, other than that it's the best way to spend a day in Indy.

Molly Riot

Had an absolutely wonderful time here. The dolphin place is PHENOMENAL. The new orangutan exhibit and ride is amazing. Only thing that's a bummer is the train. All ya see are a few glimpses of back pens and maintenance. I honestly would keep my money the next time I'm in town. Otherwise AMAZING zoo!

Jack H

I have mixed feelings about the zoo, but I think a lot of that comes from feeling that the membership wasn't a great value. It wasn't horrible or anything, but there were very few perks other than admission and parking. I really do like the zoo itself. It's fairly small so you can see everything in five or six hours taking your time and not rushing around. The animals are presented in a good way where you can always get a good look at them instead of them being so far away like some zoos. I like the aquarium and dolphin show. They've changed the show a couple times since we started going so it doesn't get boring. I have to say this though...do not waste your money going on the zoo train unless all you care about is riding a tiny train. Considering what a great job they did with the "safari walk" where the boardwalk goes right over (for example) the mud hole where the rhinos like to spend the afternoon, the train is basically a tour of the employee parking lot. We rode it twice in different seasons and never saw a single animal, even when there wasn't a lot of tall grass.

Jessica Yeazel

A great time for the whole family. From 91 year old great grandma to 2 year old We all had a wonderful day at the zoo.

Edward Abarado

I went on a weekday and in the morning. Going that early, I felt like I was the only one there aside from the workers. Aside from the cold, I thought it was cool seeing all the animals.

Jack Phillips

What a fun zoo. The dolphin show along with the feeding times and animal chats make this a very experiential zoo. Our family has enjoyed the lion chats. The new snake house is very easy to spot the snakes and learn about them.

Jerry stephenson

Indianapolis Zoo is great lots of fun animals playing when its cool outside. Dolphin show is awesome check it out!

Samara Shackelton

Indianapolis zoo has made huge efforts in recent years to try and make sure every area includes something interactive. It is definitely worth the trip. Personally for an end of summer experience it was about $28. But I do know prices very by time of year and are less expensive when you buy ahead, ie online in advance instead of on site the day of your visit. I will say they are very specific about what time you go to the dolphin show, if your ticket says you're going in the morning, you will NOT be able to attend the afternoon show so keep that in mind. For what it is, this zoo is great. But keep in mind the pros and cons of animals in captivity when you make your plans.

B P

I have been to many zoos across the country and this one is one of the best! We just went today and even though it was cold there were still many animals to see outside and our usual favorites inside. The orangutan exhibit is especially interesting. I’ve been to the major events (Zoo Boo and Christmas at the Zoo) and they’ve never disappointed!

Jason Metzger

Always great but very busy during promo times. Went for zoo boo and parking lot was full. Try to make it on weekdays or not during special events.

Lonnie Perry

Our family enjoys every visit to the zoo. No matter how many times we've been it's always fun. There is much to see and do. The grounds are well laid out and plenty of areas to see the animals. The Dolphin Show is enjoyable. If you live in the area, you should check out a family membership.

Green Birdy

The enclosures were big enough for the animals and with enough spots to allow viewing of the animals. The animal caretakers clearly value the animals and treat them with respect, all the animals seemed very happy and content. There is so much to see, and new things under construction. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The zoo is very family friendly and also handicap accessible. You can easily find things to do to keep you occupied. Plenty of parking, lots of restrooms(which are very clean considering the amount of people that use them), plenty of snack and drink spots as well. The gift shops offer varieties of plush toys, plastic toys, reusable every day items(to help encourage easier ability to avoid single use plastics), shirts, hats, books, cups, decorations, etc. The dolphin show was fun and educational, and helped explain the importance of everyone taking small steps to help the environment. Lots of shady spots and places to rest, beautiful sights, and a very clean park overall.

Stephanie

My family and I LOVE the Indianapolis Zoo. We have had a membership for years! My personal favorite is the Dolphin Pavilion. The Butterfly Exhibit is beautiful. The orangutans are so awesome. You can pet baby sharks. The train ride is fun all times of the year but decorated for Halloween (Zoo Boo) and Christmas. The carousel is always fun to ride too. You can feed giraffes and race a cheetah. They take your photo when you enter (we have so many!) The food is tasty. There is even a playground for little ones. The list goes on and on.... everyone is sure to have a great time!!

Christopher Baker

So at the dolphin show, which was good, they spoke about the need to stop using single use plastics. This is a good cause. But then we went to get lunch in their cafe and they served my salad in single use plastics, and when my wife asked for a to go container they gave her a plastic bag. You would think if this cause was important to them they would at least practice it themselves. Mayne they should use paper or cardboard bowls and containers. For the $72 they charged for lunch for 5 they could afford it.

April Currier

Loved my visit here. The dolphin exhibit with a 360 degree view tank was a highlight. The park is easy to get to, clean and well laid out.

siny Raphel

It is one of the best zoo’s I have visited. My kids really enjoyed.. if you are planning to go , make sure you buy tickets 2-3 weeks early , since the price increases as the dates get closer. There are special stations for moms with small kids where they can change diapers or feed. Be sure to watch dolphin show. It is amazing. If you sit in the front row for the show you will get a nice water splash!!! White river was not as good as expected. But if you have kids who are learning about butterfly life cycle , they might enjoy. There are some rides for kids. Also kids can race in cheetah track which they will enjoy. Overall it was an amazing experience.

Michael Taillard

Nice zoo with some very cool activities if you make reservations. The art adventure with penguins is an amazing concept that was very enriching for all 4 of my kids, but our youngest will remember it forever since she has loved penguins since she was a baby. Feeding giraffes and other animals is great, too. The zoo itself is ok. Better than the Detroit zoo, but compared to the natural, open spaces created by the Omaha zoo this Indianapolis zoo looks a little sad. Still, a wide variety of animals to see and have fun with. The dolphin show is good, and provides important information, even if it is a bit sanctimonious at times. Easy to see from the road, as it's just down the road from the museum. The staff was very helpful and accommodating as I searched for who to talk to about the penguin experience. Most didn't know, themselves, which made for a bit of a wild goose chase, but they compensated us with some free tickets to feed the animals, which they didn't have to do and was very generous. Bring plenty of sunblock and something to keep you cool in the summer, as it was brutally hot out (about 100 degrees F with 100% humidity) and there is very little shade across this long looping walk.

Angela Kellaway

Loved this zoo. Well laid out, large animal habitats, well maintained. Really nice reptile display.

Joe Marusak

This is a great zoo! It is so good we became members. The habitats are large and natural, and the staff plainly loves their wards.Go to the Dolphin presentation. Go into the ocean section. It gives most aquariums a run for the money.

Joshua Byrer

Great for an afternoon with the kid. All the exhibits look clean and adequate for the animals. My only complaint is I wish there was more. Things seem to get swapped often but I would like just more in general.

Jake Hyland

Love this zoo! The new sloth exhibit was what brought us to visit! We loved it. You can walk right up to the sloths, but can't touch them. There were two zookeepers there to answer questions about the sloths. They were super friendly. All in all, there's so many exhibits to see and all the animals are taken care of appropriately! Can't wait to go back!

Mary Hicks

I took 7 family members to the zoo today. It was a Saturday and a very busy day. We were able to see all the exhibits. Dolphin show was excellent. We saw such a wide variety of animals. Very educational. Very fun day for everyone

K

Lots of fun for the kids and adults :) The dolphin show is by far my favorite! The zoo keepers do amazing job educating you on the animals and there care. Place is very clean, even the bathrooms. Prices are a little crazy for food and drinks though I mean $4 for a can of soda? I get it goes towards the animals, but just the admission alone is already up there and I'm sure if it was lower more people would buy or donate.

Jean Jones

Nice zoo. Sad the butterflies were already gone from the butterfly house. Comparing to other zoos, I thought some of the enclosures were small, and the viewing areas smaller. Animals did seem taken care of

Julianna Elise

Loved it! The grounds were beautiful! We were able to see a lot more animals up close compared to other zoos we’ve been to. We loved the lions and tigers! The dolphin show was cool, too. Bring your own water bottle, though. If you buy a fountain drink, you can’t get a lid for the cup, which isn’t convenient when pushing a stroller and walking with kids. But, if you can transfer your drink to another cup, that problem would be solved

Elizabeth Canter

We have a membership. It is great. Lines were so long last night for the Zoo Boo but we got to get right in with members Express! We visit a few times a month!

Sistoria neeley

Definitely worth going to visit! We went on meet a sloth day, and got to get a picture very close with their two resident sloths! It was a ton of fun. Stay hydrated and bring your sunscreen though! On the way out visit the butterfly greenhouse right next to it, the greenhouse is adorable, and the gardens outside the greenhouse are especially fun! We took a really unique panoramic of the courtyard in the back of the garden area, it was a really nice way to bookend our zoo visit.

Marla Whitfield

The zoo it self is great. I understand that people working there get paid. But for the many many many many visitors that come there ,the prices should not be that much for food and at the gift shop. Yes I know that the care of and feeding is part of it to ,but more could be sold if priced less. A family is limited to buying and sharing. They are even getting donations.

E J

Zooboo was fun! Exhibits were cool. When trying to order food, we experienced a pretty rude employee but that is so rare there and I am sure they deal with all kinds of emotions there. We love taking our kiddos here.

Kathy Henderson

We love going to the Indianapolis Zoo. I really recommend getting the family pass. With it we don't feel as much pressure to see everything during one trip. Plus there are fun events year round like Zoo Boo and Christmas at the Zoo.

Matthew Turpin

This is one of the best zoos that I have been to. It is very clean and a lot of fun for the kids.

elesia lang

Was a great experience. The dolphin show was so cute. Everything was a bit overpriced but to be expected when you visit a non tax payer funded zoo. The free shows that come with admission makes it very worth it. Make sure to go early to get the absolute most out of the experience.

Sindy Love

This so is Amazing! A must stop if you're visiting Indy. There's so much to see and do. I would recommend getting the total adventure pack so you can have access to all the rides and the extras like feeding the Giraffes, which was our favorite part. They also have a beautiful garden, and an aquarium. There's a cafe for a lunch break and a playground by the cafe.

Michele Beasley Coffey

The zoo is a great experience. Might not want to come on holidays when all the schools are out. Otherwise it's always fun!

Emma Miller

We adore the zoo! We have a membership and go as much as we can. Recently we went for ZooBoo and had a blast. The pumpkin town was a little too crowded for our toddlers, but I’m sure they’ll love it in a year or two. We’re very excited to see the updates on the central playground!

Green Birdy

Robert Balliet

Fun time at the Zoo. Staff were knowledgeable about the facility and the animals. Animals appeared well cared for and exhibits were well organized. I missed the majority of animal shows, so I cannot comment on those. Great place to take the family. Prices a little high inside the park, but that's also to be expected to a point.

Shanon Hiles

Fun place. The dolphin area is very nice. Plus the orangutan exhibit is top notch. Great place to take young people, like kids and stuff.

Tyler Edmister

Great Zoo with a wide variety of animals. The Zoo is a great size, you are able to see everything in 4-5 hours not counting the dolphin show, which is nice. The Zoo is very clean with friendly employees.

Gretchen Barger

It's small compared to Columbus or Cincinnati but that's okay. You get to see everything and you're not exhausted at the end of the day. Loved the Butterfly House and the Dolphin Show!

Veronica Hilton

Excellent smaller zoo. They have truly beautiful facilities, knowledgeable staff, and very creative enrichment for all of the animals. Don't miss the flight of the macaws, it's stunning!!

Donna Tansy

I had a lot of fun here and the prices were a lot lower than I remembered. I feel bad for the animals but I don't know the circumstances, they could be rescues. The orangutans were amazing.

Leigh Ann Henline

Great zoo! Perfect size, not too big and not too crowded. The dolphin show was fun! We also enjoyed feeding the birds and petting the sharks!!

Koen De Vuyst

Amazing zoo with nicely kept up areas around the animals. We had a year subscription this year and is difinitely something to think about when you like walks and some favorites among the animals.

Stephanie

My family and I LOVE the Indianapolis Zoo. We have had a membership for years! My personal favorite is the Dolphin Pavilion. The Butterfly Exhibit is beautiful. The orangutans are so awesome. Clean, well-managed and maintained municipal zoo. All exhibits represent an environment as authentic as possible. You can't walk twenty feet without running into a uniformed staff member asking how they can help you. The dolphin and the macaw shows are a must see.

Lucy Yarbrough

Fantastic zoo in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. The underwater dolphin viewing dome is amazing (but keep your voice down... sound carries). I also love the tiger enclosure in the forest exhibit. If you wait a few minutes, the tigers will come right up to the glass.

Mary Sc0tt

My husband and grandkids had a blast. So much fun going again this weekend. Been going for the 5 years love Boo zoo.

Mike Henderson

Fun time. Kids loved the animals. ZooBoo activities didn't start until 2pm so we were too early. That was the only downside.

Jon Reeves

Great experience! Plan at least three or four hours to see everything. The experience will speak for itself. The best tip I can give is to enter, go left and watch the macaw show. Personally, I watched it twice :-) Food is reasonably priced in comparison to like venues. There is a fee to park (currently $8). They do accept cards.

Christopher Baker

So at the dolphin show, which was good, they spoke about the need to stop using single use plastics. This is a good cause. But then we went to get lunch in their cafe and they served my salad in single use plastics, and when my wife asked for a to go container they gave her a plastic bag. Dee Mossburg

It's a nice zoo, however for being in a large city, I was slightly disappointed. I would have thought since they had a picture of a sloth on the brochure they would have had a sloth. Great orangutan exhibit. We actually got to see one on the wires outside of their area.

Mitzi Chadbourne

Nice zoo. Pretty flat walking area. The dolphin exhibit was really cool watching the show they put on. Food places were nice. Great ice cream! Botanical garden was very pretty. So many different flowers.

Linda Richardson

Great little zoo! Loved their elephant enclosure and the dolphin exhibit was great! They have a bird feeding area and a really fun "mist" walkway that leads up to a sloth up close! Super cute decorated for Halloween. Definitely a good time for kids and adults!

Ashley Swalls

Lots of great attractions. It is always clean and well kept. The bathrooms are always very clean. It seems that there is alwags an issue with the the rides when we go, which kind kind of stinks since we always add the wristband for the extras.

Jawna Banks

Good old fashioned family fun! Loved the snake and sloth exhibit. The dolphin show never disappoints. The butterflies were magical. Lines weren't long for anything. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I love the picnic tables out front so you can take food if you have a big group like us. Also, discount tickets for big groups

Robert Ragonese

Really did enjoy the zoo The question that i have is that i understand it is a zoo and caring for animals, but with the growing amount of service animals around shouldn't there be an area designed for the service animals and the handler Just saying makes sense And as far as the staff ..hit and miss on some of the staff members thinking they own the place (don't really know if they had ever scene a service animal in work) With all the dirty looks aside was a surprise of a good time

john kernich

Incredible animal displays in their natural habitat - you get up close and personal with many different species. Fun for the entire family...!!!

Mitzi Chadbourne

Nice zoo. Pretty flat walking area. The dolphin exhibit was really cool watching the show they put on. Food places were nice. Great ice cream! Botanical garden was very pretty. So many different flowers.

Jeff Brown

Great family day with our fam, aunt, and cousins. Like a good zoo and aquarium in one. Ourangatang and oceans exhibit were awesome. We didn't ride the train as some of our family did in the past and didn't recommend it, but that did not deter from such a great experience. Well done Indy!!!!

Thomas Moore

Smaller Zoo than some we've been to. But perfect for a stop while traveling. Loved the dolphin exhibit.

Joshua Richey

Nice zoo, with a couple fantastic facilities (Orangutan facility, Dolphin show, and aquarium) but it just seemed way overpriced compared to zoos with more animals.

Mrwill881 1

Came during zooboo which is a different twist to the zoo. They decorate the place in Halloween decor and made a little Halloween village. They also have a DJ playing music as well.

Shannon Jones

The Indianapolis Zoo is easily accessible from Bloomington. It seems well planned, well laid out, and had good parking. Once inside, the various paths are at hand for your choosing which category of animals to visit. There are rail and overhead tramway choices too. All animals are displayed in appropriate enclosures, although some seem to have no boundaries! Guides present interesting, informative shows along the well appointed paths. There are numerous places to sit, sip, and even eat.

Amber Toomer

This is the cleanest zoo I've ever been to. As a local season pass holder, it is particularly great because it's just the right size to do for a few hours and get your "fill" until next time. The layout is well done and the exhibits are well thought out. I highly recommend the train for "kids" of all ages - it's a great reprieve to sit down and get a tour of the property.

Mercy Lynn

My husband and I went here on a day trip and loved the zoo! It was a great trip, clean and plenty of things to see! Water and food were expensive but to be expected when you go out to any place like a zoo or theme park!

Lisa S

They should really tell you at the ticket booth if rides are down. Otherwise, had a great time at Zoo boo!

Aditya Mittal

Very nice place to go with the family and friends, and for the kids to learn and interact with the animals. Good number of animals to see. The dolphin show was good. The weather was extremely hot, so I would recommend to go on a day when it's not super hot. The Indianapolis zoo is located in the vibrant downtown area with many other attractions near by. After you are done visiting the zoo and near by attractions enjoy lunch or dinner at the number of different cuisine restaurants in downtown area!

Preston Lamb

The Indianapolis Zoo is a really great zoo. We got to see many animals that aren't at the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake. Our kids thought that was pretty cool. One of the favorites was the dolphin show, which requires free tickets and were given to us as we entered the zoo. It's not a huge zoo, so you can do everything in a few hours, but you could take longer if you wanted.

Kristina Hobbs

So much to see! Enjoyed every bit of it! Checking out the daily schedule to make time for the animal talks and feedings is definitely worth it! Only complaint I have is the breastfeeding rooms were really hot and stuffy. Bring a handheld fan!

Shawn Call

If you want to see exotic animals or even from friendly Disney movies like the Lion King then this is the place to go. My experience there was fun and I would definitely go back again in the near future.

Rebecca Mapes

The large animals are cramped into small enclosures. They put animals in even smaller areas so people can see them. They had more food stands than anything else. I won't waste money on the Indianapolis Zoo again I will just go to the Fort Wayne Zoo which is beyond better.

Jonathan Solomon

A great zoo with some truly unique animal encounters. The enclosures are designed in a way that allows visitors to get an up close appreciation of the magnificent creatures who call the zoo home. The butterfly garden next door is also not to be missed.

paulette mcclain

Zooboo was very entertaining for the children and it was very nice to see that so many adults dressed in costume too. It has been a great day

Bob Harms

We parkedhere, and rode bike on a bike trail by the river to the capitol.. The zoo is awesome...lots of parking security was very friendly and helpful in providing info...the person in the entrance booth was very much on the side of grumpy I wish you were someplace else... Maybe a long year for her...but over all the security guy made us feel welcome...

Colleen Giffin

I love this zoo. It may not be the largest zoo, but they are always updating and adding new exhibits, and the animals seem happy.

Jacquelyn Ward

Very nice zoo! It didn't seem to be quite as big as our home zoo (Columbus, Ohio) but it was very clean and well layed out. The dolphin show and dolphin viewing building is amazing. I grew up not far from Sea World and miss going there so I greatly enjoyed the dolphin show. I did not care for the lion exhibit as they did not seem to have much space to move around. We are lunch at the zoo and the food prices are what you would expect. Parking was easy to navigate. We spent the entire day from open to close there and had a lot of fun.

Erin Mooney

Place was nice, exhibits were clean, & restrooms were clean also. We went on the hottest day of the year which had me longing for more mist fans. The train ride was cute...our little guy loved it. We'll return but on a cooler Fall or Spring day.

Andria Donovan

We always enjoy our time at the Indy Zoo. Even on the busiest days, you never seem to be crowded while visiting. The animals are always able to be seen and the cage areas are designed for close up encounters. Our only complaints are about the “rides”. The train ride while a nice break doesn’t really show you any animals, it more takes you around the back of the zoo. We just enjoy the nice ride and break to sit down. The other issue is that it seems like all the rides are always out of service when we visit. I’d suggest calling or checking the website if you want to do the sky rides, as they are often not operating.

Jamie Narjes

Zoo Boo was a fun event for the kids! Great activities for all to enjoy during the month of October, crafts, mazes and spooky tunes. The Indianapolis Zoo is a wonderful place to take the family anytime of the year.

drink itin

Great place to take children of all ages where they can view and experience all kinds of different animals. The dolphin show is a must if you've never attended it before! Petting the Dogfish Sharks is also a pretty awesome experience!

Linda Richardson

Great little zoo! Loved their elephant enclosure and the dolphin exhibit was great! They have a bird feeding area and a really fun "mist" walkway that leads up to a sloth up close! Super cute decorated for Halloween. Definitely a good time for kids and adults!

Robin Brown

I had such a great time with my kids and grandkids.I would love to do it again. I came at Christine last yr and it was so beautiful but I didn't get to see mush because and the animals were sleeping. Thank you so much for being here. My kids are members every yr. Robin Brown

Dianna Reynolds

Loved the Indianapolis Zoo. Was great to be there. Hope all will be more beautiful soon. But I do love this one...

J C

Always a wonderful experience!! Thank you to everyone who works and volunteers to make the zoo so great!

ANN FREE

It was great and a wonderful. Enjoyed that the animals were close and out. The gardens were beautiful.

Nicholas Hoover-Hill

Absolutely loved this zoo. Was a blast. I got to see some animals I've never seen from zoo's around me.

Shelby Clark

The staff is wonderful, they are kind and straight to the point, however I do have two complaints. Some of the talks where to focused on pollution. Pollution is only a part of the problem when it comes to the death of wild life. Some of the exhibits are to small, what's the point of having something if you can't provide the space that it needs. Other than that, my family and I loved being there. I didn't realize that your orangutan knows some sign language!

Tayo V

I had a very pleasant experience. Clean and accessible restrooms are available. The animals, plants and grounds are properly taken care of. There are informative and delightful animal shows (the dolphins and macaws are awesome). A variety of refreshments are available for purchase. Parking is organized but the rows are not labelled, spent some time looking for my vehicle afterwards.

Roger Smith

Loved our trip here. Very clean and inviting atmosphere. Great time for young and adults.

Brooke Jones

We go every year and love it every single time! Average price you would pay for admission to a zoo. But bring your own water bottles!! Expensive

Britney McBurnett

We buy the season pass every year and get tons of use out of it! It's nice being able to visit the zoo multiple times over the year. Always something new to see and do. The animals are well taken care of and the grounds are well maintained.

Anna Earl

Great zoo! It's clean and tidy and there is plenty to do. Would highly recommend to all ages. Went here with a bachelorette party and we all had such a great time together. The butterfly garden is also a great experience as well. We had a blast exploring the zoo.

Alma Piedad Alarcon

It's a beautiful place, the staff is excellent, but the prices for food are very high. One cup of coffee costs $3,60 and really is more water than coffee. In the peak hours the cafeteria is full and the service delayed

Cherita Long

A year pass is a great way to go. Seen the Dolphins in the baby animals relaxes me. You must see Christmas at the zoo at night. Caroling around the campfire, take a ride around the park and see all the lights at night. Enjoy

Mike Lauer

Big zoo with great exhibits of elephants and giraffes and other large animals. White River gardens also a great free stop at the zoo as well.

Katie Belmont

Great zoo. You can get much closer to the animals than at our zoo, Henry Doorly - Omaha, NE. There was even going to be a dolphin show! - but the dolphins weren't in the mood.

James Brewer

The kids loved it. I haven't been the in a few years very nice updates and one of the few places you can see dolphins in the great lakes area (Sorry no nice phots of them). We will be back next year for a trip

Michael Lindstrom

Great zoo! Educational and entertaining! Learn about animal conservation and observe wild animals. Plan your visit so you can strategically go inside every now and then to get out of the heat.

Kim Smith

Always nice going to the Zoo. We do wish they had a better food selection for what they charge so we usually pack our lunch to save money. If you do get lunch there we recommend the chicken fingers and fries basket. I do love the changes they've made to some of the exhibits.

Mark Nix

Awesome. Small for such a major zoo, a full tour seeing every attraction should take an average group 4-5 hours - but the quality of those attractions makes up for that. The zoo seems genuinely targeted towards conservation efforts, making it something of an oddity in the middle of a very conservative state

Nathan Brown

Great place for a family walk and enjoy the animals. Bird show was well done. Plenty of parking and not overly crowded. Food and drink prices are a bit high. Easy to get to park and staff was very friendly. We really enjoyed are time there. Don't miss the dolphins.

Justin Rittenhouse

As far as zoos go, this was a pretty good experience. The animals all seemed to be well cared for, had decent amounts of room, and were all easily accessible by two adults and two kids. The dolphin show was entertaining and informative. Restrooms and drinking fountains are plentiful and close by pretty much anywhere in the park. The food we had for lunch was good. All in all, it was a worthwhile stop for a day.

kristee hartung

Absolutely loved this zoo. It was our first time there and all the animals were out and active. They have a dolphin show which was awesome. It was very clean and was designed well. Much better than Cincinnati zoo in my opinion. Definitely want to go back.

Janelle _

Best zoo I've been to. Love the giant enclosures that are provided for the animals. The orangutans are so entertaining and love showing off for all of the guests. The park flows in a nice circle so you're sure not to miss any animal you wanted to see. The butterfly garden is AMAZING! So beautiful.

Julie Moore

Great exhibits with very lively and talkative animals. All habitats looked well-kept and the animals seemed happy. It's a large enough zoo where you feel you've seen a wide variety but not so big that you miss something in the time you're there. Food was good and a decent price. Dolphin show was included in the price for a ticket and was fun to watch. Overall, we would go again if back in Indianapolis.

Like the way the zoo is set up and it is well maintained. We were with my young grandkids and yet we were able to see many animals in a short time. The kids loved the exhibit where they could touch the sharks. The penguin habitat made us feel like we ware in Antarctica.

Paul Gustafsson

This zoo was a lot of fun. My kids really enjoyed it. Nice selection of animals and easy to navigate. We will go again soon.

Jo

Great zoo!!! Lots of spots to grab food or a drink in the case that you have children. Friendly staff. Recommend going during a week day with children.

Lindsey Kurucz

This zoo is always a fun time. Lots of activities and exhibits to see! The membership is definitely the best deal!

Jenny Leitinger

Loved the dolphin show! Great animal exhibits. Good conservation messages. But the gift shop was totally priced way too high.

Dane Carder

Not recommended. Extremely overpriced. Almost nothing to see that isn't paid ($3 per person for a few random exhibits) after having paid for parking and admission at the front. With our child, we somehow managed to see the whole place in 15 minutes. Almost $100 for our family of 3, we weren't paying $9 more each time we wanted to see something else besides the eagle and monkeys. Compared to the San Diego Zoo, Los Angeles Zoo, Denver Zoo, this place charges 5x as much and you get to see 50x less. Basically it's a walking park with trees and more extortion. We thankfully got a refund on our admission, and found $5 in the parking lot. In total, we lost out on time, and $3 for parking. Having seen basically the whole place in 15 minutes, even my wife admits that it wasn't even worth the $3 we ended up actually paying to see this place. Save your money. You could probably buy a spirit airline round trip ticket and see the Denver, San Diego, or LA zoo for cheaper, see a new place and *really* get your money's worth with hours upon hours of a real zoo experience for the same you would end up paying for you and your family to see everything here. I just want to add, my wife and child and I have been to the Denver Zoo 5-6 times, spent 3-4 hours there each time and STILL haven't seems the whole zoo, and paid $25 for our entire family each time. That's worth it, not $100+ to see an eagle and a monkey only to pay $9 more for each of the couple other things they have here. Again, save your money, or don't. Buy a cheap round trip airline ticket to somewhere else if you want to actually spend a day at a zoo.

revanagouda pujer

The Indy Zoo is good decent place to enjoy, especially for family and kids... Well planned and well organized. Employees are super friendly

Jeff White

I love going to the zoo and this is one of the better ones that I have had the pleasure to visit.

Tony Reynolds

Wildly overpriced and tiny environments for the animals. Some are in cages maybe the size of a very small room, despite the orangutans or lions being large. The animals all seem lethargic and sad. Train ride is a scenic view of the speedway across the street and where they maintain the trains. Tiny zoo, tiny cages, massive prices. Everything is ticketed so they nickel and dime you on top of everything. Columbus or Cincinnati zoos are infinitely better. Don’t waste your money here because they don’t seem to be using it on the animals quality of life at all. Even the sloth that they’re spending all their money advertising for exists in a sack in a tiny plastic contained area smaller than a bathroom stall. “Sloths can’t really survive well in our climate” So be a responsible zoo and create actual exhibits for your animals? This place is despicable. I don’t know how any of them sleep at night.

Kay Sue

We have the family zoo pass and love it! Our pass has paid for itself several times over, as we go a few times a month. Very clean, friendly environment. Helpful staff and everything seems conveniently located. Love the "chat" exhibits where you can learn about the animals up close. The dolphin show is a must see as well. If you're looking for things to do in Indy, add this to the list.

Carol Henry

My grandson was excited when we got pass for the dolphins and waited for what turned out to be only 5 minutes long. Then we wanted to go to the plains to see giraffes, but it was closed down because of an incident. After a while we left and had no idea what happened. The train and other rides were not running because of whatever happened. We liked the birds and the flight of macraws. The people were nice and place was clean so if I’m in the area again I might visit.

Joshua Hedderich

The Indianapolis Zoo is world class all the way! So many great habitats to explore. The new bird show is awesome, and don't miss the dolphins or the orangutan exhibits, either!

John Aldridge

Always a great time with family.Great holiday season theme. Only bad thing is $2.50 for a 12 ounce can soft drink.

Tanya Wilson

It was super hot this day but being pregnant and walking through the adventures with the husband and kids was fun. The staff was very helpful everywhere. Can't wait to go again so I can enjoy the dolphin show!

Lexi Suby

We have been to many zoos and this is a favorite. Great view of animals and all the animals seem happy. It was raining and we were soaked but still had a great time. The dolphins and dolphin show was enjoyed by all. The gift shop could be better.

Kari Manning

This zoo has a lot of active animals. The animal caretakers do a great job. It was a really great time! The dolphin show was excellent. The dolphin trainers really care.

Tori Gillam

Its a nice zoo, and the amenities are lovely. But essentially its an over commercialized animal prison. The emptiness in the eyes of every animal say it all. It would be like going to a prison and being shocked to find the inmates are lonely and depressed.

Clay Waddell

I only parked here to walk to Gen Con, but the staff was super friendly and answered all of my questions. Parking was $8 for zoo events and $10 for of site events. That being said, they only charged me eight, knowing that my party was headed to Gen Con!

lisa behymer

My daughter had her wedding there. It was beautiful place

Martha Sigurdson

One of the top notch zoos! Why? I enjoyed their dolphin show. They have not just one or two elephants but several! There’s even a lovely exotic butterfly exhibit.

mannyfresh353

Pleasantly surprised by the amount of animals and exhibits. We went on weekday which made for less visitors. Would of given 5 stars but not all exhibits were open on weekdays.

Jack McAllister

Awesome zoo! Enclosures were well thought out. It feels like you are right there with them. Lots of open air between you and the animals while feeling safe. Loved the desert exhibit with the turtles and lizards cohabitating together. Also the butterfly conservatory was a plant fanatics dream!

Joshua Perdew

Always fun. But prices keep going up, which make it reasonable to get family pass.. then you get too busy and end up going 3-4 times the last few weeks before it expires. I recommend going in winter. You get the fun of the place, and the are willing to get things out for you. (Attn homeschoolers & online students).

Imogen M

I'm a 24 year old who likes animals. My fiance and I went there for my birthday and we had a blast !! Although I don't recommended getting the adventure tickets (includes feeds and rides) since there's not a lot of activities you can do with that and the rides are not open.

sunny m

So many things to do here so many things to see! great place to take the kiddos. I even have a special event during Christmas where they have tons and tons of Christmas lights out it’s amazing. The staff is very friendly the grounds are very well-kept. Pricing is extremely reasonable!

Sara Lay

Animals seem happy than some zoos, employees are friendly, zoo grounds are best and tidy. ZooBoo is a blast, lots of extra activities for the kids, extended hours. The animals "go to bed" after 7pm but there's still plenty to see and and do. We are members now and will be going often n my 14 month old had an amazing time. As did all the adults.

Michelle Antonio

I thought this place was supposed to be kid friendly... but sadly that’s not the case.. many of the employees use foul language such as cursing and inappropriate gestures.. most of this came from a face paint stand near the indoor restaurant as me and my CHILDREN were eating outside. Very disappointed that the zoo is okay with TEENAGERS talking that way. Will not be going back.

SidKlown

This has a decent selection of animals to choose, and it very clean. On the other hand it isn't worth the money you pay $8 for parking and $30 per ticket is ridiculous. It only took us 2 hours to walk through and see everything in the park. It was an okay experience, but I wouldn't go back.

Joleen Tawfik

The sloth is awesome. Every time we come the gondolas are closed but was lucky enough to get to ride them this time. Yay! Exciting experience. I believe the ride tickets are too expensive for the wait times and the actual experience but overall impressed. The Rhonos were pretty amazing, the tigers were roaring, the elephants were out and about, we seen Cheetahs laying out sunbathing.

Scott Levine

Hits a good "sweet spot" for families - it's large enough for most of the larger animals (rhinos, giraffes, orangutans, etc) that your kids will want to to see, but small enough to be toured in a day. Some animals not present: Hippos, alligators. Lots of opportunities around the park to spend extra money (ice cream, feeding opportunities, rides, gift shops, face paint, etc.). Clean, well kept.

Michaela Fletcher

Hands down, best zoo in the Midwest and not just because I'm from Indy. Perfect size to spend just a few hours and visit interested exhibits or spend the day and leisurely enjoy all there is to see. Dolphin show is both informative and entertaining. Rides are fun for all ages. Dog show is a must see.

Christine Thomas

The Indianapolis Zoo is a wonderful place for groups and families. They're constantly changing their exhibits and improving the lives of the animals. The zoo also has a good educational program to bring awareness to both the young and old about conservation efforts worldwide. Their encounters areas are where people can find out more about our world and how to make a difference.

kristee hartung

Absolutely loved this zoo. It was our first time there and all the animals were out and active. They have a dolphin show which was awesome. It was very clean and was designed well. Much better than Cincinnati zoo in my opinion. Definitely want to go back.

Mandy K Greenlee

What a great way to spend some family time together. Be sure to check out the dolphin show. There are many air conditioned habitats for the middle of the day and outside habitats for the rest of the time. Their snake exhibit is phenomenal as there is always a lot of active snakes!

William C Brown

This was my first ever visit to the Indy Zoo not really my thing. My wife wanted to go so that was my reason for going. All of the animals appears to be well fed. Their are a few close places you can park and walk save your self 8 dollars on parking. The Pepsi machines are 2.50 for a plastic bottle. Hot dog pork or turkey is 3.00 if you have kids this might be a expensive place.

Janelle _

Elizabeth Graves

This place is for everyone. Makes adults feel like a kid. You can see animals from around the world. Places to eat and rides for you as well. Come enjoy yourself on your own. No times required for tours. Start with the water animals and end up with the elephants. Take your time.
