Love and Marriage, Love and Marriage. Yep This Beautiful Fountain in Chicago is the Original place to go to cool off on a hot day, have a Romantic Evening with the colorful Lit fountain in afternoon or evening and take pictures there. Great for A romantic proposal.

Matthew Prugh

Lovely park and lively water fountain. It's not often a water fountain is a destination, but this should be one as you enjoy the wonderful green park areas along the way. With a spectacular city skyline view as a backdrop, it is a blast to watch the waters dancing in the daytime. A return visit at night and the colorful lights just make it even more spectacular.

matt garner

Excellent park historic fountain what's not to love

Dario Chavez

Buckingham Fountain is most certainly a bucket-list item in the Chicago area, many would remember it from Married With Children. Unfortunately the fountain was turned off for maintenance when I visited. Hopefully it will be turned on soon.

Echo Eternal

As good in person as in the photos. The mist feels great on a hot day. Good spot to have lunch or just hang out

Roberta Richmond

Beautiful fountain. The height of the water spray was amazing to see! The fountain design is very historic.

Gina Hudson

Talk about an iconic fountain!! My daughter loved when the middle fountain did it's tall blast! Pay attention to which way the wind is blowing, because if you don't you may accidentally get a bit wet. On the flip side, if you're hot and you'd like a little mist of cooling water... Go for it!

Mz Seductrezz

I rated it a 5 because at night the fountain is beautiful but because its so close to the water it can get extremely cold i worked at this location another time as well during the summer and it was perfect

Inna Rudneva

Love the Buckingham fountain! Definitely a must visit if you’re downtown Chicago in the summer! It’s a huge open platform area with a huge fountain in the middle that is just the perfect, beautiful oasis on a hot summer day in the city! It’s seriously huge and just gorgeous and when the wind blows, you get the mist on your face and it feels sooo good. Sometimes they play beautiful classical music there and you feels so grand with the beautiful music and the huge fountain! It’s right across the street from the lake so from there I’d recommend to cross the street and take a walk along the lake to the shed aquarium or to navy pier. The fountain is definitely one of my favorite summer spots in Chicago. In the evening it even light up with all these different color and looks so cool!

Alfreda Hadley

Largest fountain that O have ever seen and beautiful.

Vincent Gaines

Beautiful giant water fountain. Glad I stayed until dark. The lights around the base and shining up through the water are simply amazing.

Jose Munoz

A staple in chicago. Something you have to see. It has a show at the top of the hrs. With music. I would say go at night and really enjoy with all the light and water show.

Andrea Finn

This fountain is absolutely stunning. Definitely visit when you are in Chicago. Great place for pictures too.

Chase Nelson

This was a great sight. Great skyline in the backdrop and when the wind blows you can run through the mist from the fountain

Cali Legal

I'm sure there are plenty of us that grew up watching the iconic fountain on a weekly basis. Now I finally got to visit it. It's a great place to come visit.

Steve Gieser

This beautiful, wedding cake style fountain is over 90 years old and it is a wonderful sight during the summer. It is probably most beautiful at night when it’s illuminated.

Elizabeth Mazariegos

We had souch fun there we went at night and even got on one of those bike cabin rides. Love the park and the fountain

Norma Diaz

I have been going there since i was a child with my parents i like that place and now i have my own children i take them there and they love it. Its a nice place to walk around in

Sophie Crash

Unfortunately I visited this park and fountain about a week before their "switch on Summer" event. It is dormant in the winter and the especially harsh winter weather this year has kept it from being turned on early. I would have loved to see the water turned on and this lovely fountain running with all the freshly bloomed tulips

sumeet mittal

Must visit.... very nice fountain with park in heart of downtown.... and hot dogs carts and ice cream vendors near by make it worthwhile seeing the fountain

L Johnson

I love the down town area of Chicago. It's truly a beautiful part of the City and Buckingham Fountain is gorgeous! And may I add breezy on a hot summer day...

sarah lewis

The fountain was huge and so gorgeous. We had to zigzag our way through a street fair to get to it .

Noel Maldonado

Very nice to hang out and bring family from out of town. Tourist love to walk in the mist of main water sprout every hour. And don't forget to walk across lakeshore drive and get ice cream on the lake shore. Nighttime is just as fun. The fountain lights up and taking a cruise around the lakefront on the back of the lighted up music jammin bikes is always memorable. Don't forget to asked how much before your ride...it's not a standard price.

Leah Drapkin

Really nice place to relax as you're walking along the lake. Beautiful and fun to watch the fountain change. Love all the rainbows the sun makes in the water sprays.

2G3A 3PLETZ

The fountain looked great. Nice place for pictures. Very crowded though

Phyllis Wolterstorff

Watched the Bears/Packers game there with a huge crowd of fans. FUN Thanks NFL and city of Chicago!

Hailey Johnson

This fountain was beautiful and definitely a touristy thing to do. It was big and had a fence around it so you couldn't come too close. Overall a great spot for pictures. I would recommend going if you haven't seen it.

Dannie Knutt

It was so big and beautiful! Pictures absolutely do not do this place Justice! The detail to the architecture of this Fountain is incredible. The grounds were very clean throughout the park. There we're several places to get drinks, snacks and souvenirs. If you are tired after the walk to the fountain there are plenty of bike taxis to get you around the city.

Khrystyna Baleshta

Beautiful fountain and then you can walk down to the lake for another beautiful view!

Emily Stiehl

I didn't realize that the fountain has an event at the beginning of the summer to turn it on. It's always a highlight and a great place to go with little ones. The plaza provides lots of space for running around (and sometimes running through mist blown over from the fountain).

Abdulrahman Alhazmi

Really wonderful place, lots of green space, great for kids and doing outdore sports and just amazing atmosphere

Darren and Helen Gruett

We were there on a beautiful afternoon. It is generally clean and safe. At night it is even more beautiful when it is illuminated.

David and Ruthie Wu

I had seen pictures of the fountain but didn't really understand just how expansive the fountain was. The water was shooting so high up in the air and it was a gorgeous day to snap a photo. The water was nearby so you can have that as the backdrop or you can take a photo with the skyscrapers in the background. As I walked past the fountain, I felt the wind blow the mist into me. A sight to see!

anthony pomponio

Awesome views! And a great way to cool off in the mist on a hot summer day! The entire park is wonderful.

Kevin K.

First time seeing it as I was in attendance at Grant Park for Pokemon Go Fest and it was a really cool sight. It was mid 60's when I seen the fountain, so when the fountain was shooting it made it "rain", so I advise standing further back by the benches or having a light jacket if the temperature isn't warm. The fountain shoots very high up, which was impressive and no pictures would do it any justice. On a side note: This fountain is seen in the opening credits of Married With Children, one of my all time favorite sitcoms, so seeing it in person stood out to me even more.

R.

Nice fountain in a cool part of the city. Chicago gets a bad rap because of all the crime but this part of Chicago is awesome.

Nathan Allee

Great place for some photo ops. We had the pleasure of visiting during Lollapalooza so they had lights going on the fountain which made it that much better.

Debra Wiedemann

My husband remembers this fountain from when he used to come here as a kid with his mother, and this was a must see on our list of things to do while we were in Chicago. It also had to be a night visit for the light show! It was a beautiful light show (the sound was not the best, but it worked). We ere there on a Monday night and it was a warm September evening! Glad we were able to enjoy the show!

Elizabeth Angasan

Such a beautiful fountain. The park area surrounding it is just as beautiful. I never realized there was a small rose garden before the fountain. Definitely a sight worth seeing, and great backdrop for portraits/photography shoots!

Darijan D

The craftsmanship and expertise is self-evident with one of Chicago's most iconic tourist attractions, Buckingham Fountain. The stone and metal work is second to none, and being one of the largest fountains in the world, it sure is a sight to see. Four metal sea horses represent the four states bordering Lake Michigan - Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan. Between April and October, there are nightly light shows, with the fountain releasing a blast of water every hour on the hour, accompanied with classical music. In the summer months, there are Rickshaws available around the perimeter of the fountain allowing for leisurely tours of the fountains vicinity. About a 15 minute walk from the nearest L stop, and 10 minutes walk from the metra line.

Ebony Princess

Beautiful park and fountain, it lights up @night and music is played throughout the park. Well kept clean grounds. Great view of the city. Parking is very expensive $13 for fours hours!

K. Young

"Love and marriage, love and marriage, go together like a horse and carriage." You were humming this too right? This fountain is a treasure and more people should visit it. Too bad more people rather see a giant shiny bean instead. Nevertheless, there's a very nice rose garden nearby too.

Thomas Boyd

The Buckingham Fountain was donated, to the city of Chicago. By Kate Buckingham in memory of her brother Clarence Buckingham. That's how the fountain got its name, I have photographs so many beautiful pictures of this fountain. The Buckingham Fountain is the largest Fountain of his type in the world, it's Center jet spray. Shoots up to a hundred and ninety feet of water, and when the fountain has this water color show at night. Can't you believe that the control box coming to change the colors of the light. Was located in Atlanta Georgia, why would they have them have control of the color display. They should have done it, when the fountain was built. Right now the control of the color display box, is now in Chicago.

Russ Taro

I enjoyed spending my time around this massive fountain. It's one of the best water fountain in the states! I was there before the sunset and when it's started getting dark the fountain became stunning with the colorful lights, the classic music playing in the background and the spectacular view of the lake Michigan and the skyscrapers of Chicago. And when it shoots water up in the sky you think it's raining! This is a must visit place in summer time only!

Hailey Johnson

Sunshine

Pretty little fountain in the middle of Grant Park. Stay upwind or you may receive an unexpected shower like I did. Or you can plan for it on a hot summer day to cool down by walking down wind from the fountain.

Hayley Mort

Absolutely incredible. I didn't realise how big and majestic the fountain truly was until I saw it in real life. With so many benches to sit and admire the fountain, it is an unmissable landmark where you can relax or take pictures!

Pratik Gandhi

One of the most beautiful spots in Chicago. This was unplanned place that we ended up visiting and it turned out to be really a good decision. It was very soothing to visit this spot. Highly recommended!

It lives up to its name. A truly majestic piece of artwork. We were lucky to catch the fountain at its peak for the first 5 minutes of each hour.

Katie Erwin

I was here for the first time for a BTS fan group photo and was really blown away by how beautiful this fountain was. It was the perfect spot to meet up, and had the space to be able to do so many fun activities. The areas surrounding the fountain were also beautifully maintained. Well done management!

Forrest McKinnie

It's the world's iconic place to visit it's just breathtaking outstanding Amazing the colors at night the attraction is just surreal I can't help but just be blown away I highly recommend this place as an eye opener

Linda Wallace

This fountain is absolutely stunning. It is one of the most welcoming, clean and pleasant cities in the USA.Free and fun attractions in chi town.

Nick W

This iconic fountain is a must see when visiting Chicago; both day and night. During summer there are events, such as the switch on event when the fountain is actually turned on for the season. Outside of events, the fountain is a very nice and peaceful area to relax while enjoying the city.

Swarnali Banerjee

If only there was a way to know which days the fountain would be high! Great place to chill, take photos (even for special occasions). Just by the lake

Zaara Khan

This place is really peaceful..and a very good view as well..

Christine Canty

The fountain is beautiful. Great Skyline. Views of the lake, Navy Pier and the museum campus. This is also a good spot to watch fireworks; New Year's Eve if my memory serves correctly start on the fountain and then go from Navy Pier.

Tomas Chaloupka

One of the best and biggest water fountain I ever saw. Wish we saw it at night. Worth the trip there.

Betsy Greene

Beautiful along the lake shore. Cityscape is spectacular all hours of the day & night.

Phininder Balaghan

It's a massive fountain! Worth seeing for the views! Not much else around here apart from a bar

Marissa Yoder

This place gets just as crowded as the bean but for good reason. It's HUGE and gorgeous. With the lake and the city as a backdrop, it's a must see.

Alesia Selezneva

Wonderful place. Worth visiting at day and at night time. There is a restroom nearby with outside water fountains. The only bad thing about this place at north is ugly tiny vehicles carrying tourists around the fountain with extremely loud and awful music. They are very annoying and do not fit in here.

Amrutha Hiremath Mallikarjunaiah

One of the top tourist spots in Chicago. Don't miss out on the light show at night, it's the most beautiful sight to witness.

B Herr

This ever beautiful landmark is remarkably more delightful to the beholder in person. Take advantage of the next blue sky sunny day to visit or revisit this fountain. It sprays plumes of water that sprinkle the air with little diamond water drops and refreshes you just looking at it; Eternal piece of art that it is!

Helen Scott

I'm sure its gorgeous but I didnt to see because it was off this time of year

Maribel Chacon Torres

Summer is here when the fountain is on! What a beautiful Chicago landmark and a must see during my tour of the city for friends who visit the city! You must stop by, take your pictures and revisit at night to see the beautiful colors and ambiance. There are benches around for you to enjoy the view or people watch. Whatever you like, this is the best place to sit and take a breather!

Ethan Co

Amazing fountain. As we went on the hour the fountain went high in the air! Amazing I loved it!

Rochelle Williams

Hot, balmy summer night perfect to enjoy the "Taste of Chicago" dance event "Stepping Under the Stars". Event staged at the beautiful Buckingham Fountain with a great view of the magnificent Lake Michigan to the east and the world renowned Chicago Skyline to the west. A multitude of food & beverage vendors selling a variety of diverse quick bites and libations.

Achal Jain

One of the best places to visit in chicago! You get a great view of the city and the lake. Great place for adults and kids. There are also couple shops and other small businesses that you can shop from. It’s a must visit for tourists. You can get amazing 360 views of the skyline.

Robert Merz

A beautiful place to visit while visiting the Grant Park area. The Fountain is huge with water spewing every where from the main fountain to the statues and jets that surround the fountain while your engulfed by the excellent views of Chicago and Lake Michigan. I especially like to visit at night when the city and fountain are all lit up, it's spectacular, there is a light and music show around 9pm. The Fountain is open from 8am to 11pm seasonally, I think May through Sept. There is a fast food/bar locate in the area as well as rest rooms. Also, if you are driving there is metered parking on the street and nearby parking garages.

Nathan Wray

Very nice and well maintained. The fountain is picturesque and a must visit when in Chicago. The fountain area offers a great view of the harbor and the backdrop of the city

Julia Burke

I remember this fountain from the intro for Married with Children. Pictures don't really convey the sheer size of the fountain or the size of the plaza. The fountain is set in the ground, without a lip, so there's a ornamental fence that keep people off the ring of grass around the fountain. Aside from the waterworks (which are accompanied by lights at night), the place is so huge that there is very little noise. Benches are set far back from the fountain and people were always in transit from one end of the park to the other. Definitely a tourist attraction and less noisy than the adjacent Cloud Gate.

Konamaneti Sreenivasa Reddy.

A commemorative fountain with a big pond and huge fountain. Centrally located. Enjoy the fountain sitting from benches and the crowd. A lovely place to spend time. Night time the fountain offers more beautiful views. See the Chicago skyline in the backdrops of the fountain. Washrooms are not clean.

Mariana Alexim

Nice place to visit, but it would be better if the fountain was working.

Ebony Princess

Beautiful park and fountain, it lights up @night and music is played throughout the park. Well kept clean grounds. Great view of the city. Parking is very expensive $13 for fours hours!

T Shafi

Pretty cool fountain, I guess one of the biggest in the world. I would give it a 5 if I were into fountains, but I'm really not.

Todd Anderson

Appreciate a really good fountain for what it is. The lake front is steps away as a bonus as are great skyline views.

Christopher Fedak

Pretty great fountain. The mist hitting you from it on a hot day is nice.

Bill Breen

Outstanding. What a magnificent thing to see. And the history behind it. Everyone should see it at least once. It's very much worth the travel or ride. And especially if you can see it at night. WOW

Zaffar Bhinder

Definitely go here if you are visiting Chicago! Such a big and beautiful fountain. You get a great view of the lake and downtown. You can see so many things from this spot and it’s covered with colorful flowers everywhere!

Coloradaho

This fountain is a breathtaking spectacle! The size and scale are very impressive, and the backdrop from any direction creates a vivid picture for all visitors to enjoy! Great for photo ops!

Azriel Alaimo

Amazingly beautiful historical site. The fountain goes pretty high on a clear day, and sometimes you can even see a rainbow at the top!

Annette Haschke

Love this place especially in the summer with the water shooting up on the hour and the beautiful lights as the sunsets.

Jinal Mehta

Loved the fountain, however the tall spray display only happens once in an hour and lasts for 20 mins. So there's a chance you don't see it. Irrespective, it's worth a visit. Lots of tourists though.

Tim Patterson

One of the coolest things ever perfect location really highlights the city

Samuel Waggoner

The fountain is a great place to stop and there are plenty of benches. There are rest rooms and a small cafe selling drinks and ice cream. Every so often the fountain squirts up a huge jet of water which is worth waiting for. Just across the road is the lake shore which also has great views of the city. Taking pictures of the fountain with or without people in the picture makes for a good backdrop, because the some of beautiful Chicago skyscrapers or Lake Michigan in the background.

Teri Hicks

Went here to enjoy the taste of Chicago. The fountain is massive and beautiful. Had a great time since we got in early and ate then Left before it got to hot and the crowds got too crazy.

Catalina Torres

Nostalgia and beauty always bring me back. My dad loved coming here. Anyone who would come from out of town to visit would get a trip to see and be photographed next to this fountain. Now I do it with my family whenever we're in town.

Jason Yang

Just another wonderful place to visit in the city, near the lake can easily walk around to see very different views.

Tyler Simmons

Being right next to the water, the view is fantastic. And on a hot windy day, it's a fantastic place to stand. The fountain shoots up water higher at intervals and the wind helps carry it around to cool you off. Just be careful and aware as you could walking into the gust with your phone out.

Akshay Nair

Great view to the lake and the skyline.. fountain is huge and beautiful.

Sarah Swisher

It is STUNNING. I'm not usually a fan of fountains. It's just water and art right? But the obvious love that went into crafting it. The well worn rails from people observing. Get their early for photos without visitors.

Vivian Peoples

The fountain is beautiful. Especially at night. Grant Parks has a lot to explore. Fun activity for the family & Kids. Check out Navy Pier while in town. Thanks for visiting our City.

Mandy Bairos

We visited the fountain during the day and again at night. We spent a couple hours there both times. We waited for the apparent water show but was sadly nothing happened. Rather disappointing as it was a waste of our valuable time.

Edward Connell IV

Get there at Sundown... We were there at 9pm right when the fountain hits its heights with the music and everything...JUST AWESOME and Peaceful! Cool cats with their bicycle cabs too, to ride you back in style if you don't feel like walking back to your car, or if you just want to impress your lady friend! Been LOVING this fountain since I was born...AND IT NEVER GETS OLD!...

Sahana Yelineni

Bestest views of Chicago downtown and Michigan lake. Try to visit early morning for a peaceful walk!

Sandeep Pinjerla

Even though, it is super touristy, yet it is one of the best places to visit in Chicago. Waterfront, shows, amazing views of skyline makes it a perfect place to visit. Best place to relax after work. Good pickup point if you like to take pedal cabs. Parking can be nightmare. However, there are few on Wabash ave like loop auto parks which provide cheap parking spots. Definitely recommended for anyone in Chicago.

Ian O'Casey

Really fun cool place. They were just cleaning up after Lolapoosa. So not everything was accessible. There is little too much concrete for my taste and the tr nearby icecream is overpriced but this worth visiting.

Prossy Nakattudde

Its a cool place where lots of people come to refresh minds while having at a cool flow of waters in the fountain that splash high and low giving you a new brain and peace of mind.

Starr Ivey

One of the most iconic - if not the most famous - fountain in the United States! The history of this Chicago landmark is most interesting. A must-see when in the city (Summer-time only).

C SMD

Very scenic. Beautiful during the day or night. The water is off during the winter. Parking is difficult. Recommend walking or Uber. Very spacious but can get very busy.

Amanda Anderson

Wow. A must see. Check times to see when it is in full display. One of the best fountains I have seen anywhere in the world.

Paula Hickman

Great place to take pictures and one of the best landmarks in Chicago. The fountain is gorgeous at night when it's lite up.

Megan Wilcox

Great fountain and worth walking past. My four stars is because it is literally just a fountain... some great views of the city, lots of benches to sit around enjoying the sun and people watching. I would love to see the city of Chicago do something more with this broad expanse of brick paveway - more seating, trees, flowers, etc.

Tim Pyles

The fountain was off for winter but still a beautiful place.

Kenni Terrell

A beautiful fountain that has colored lights shown on it during the night. A nice place to relax and reflect.

Valerie Turner

Wonderful place. A great tourist attraction!

Such a beautiful fountain in the middle of the park. Go at the top of the hour for a light and water show with some music. Relaxing

Pavlo Terpak

This is a must visit place in Chicago. One of the largest in the world. Donated by Kate S. Buckingham in honor of her brother Clarence, the Buckingham Fountain is considered one of the finest ornamental fountains in America. If you are in Chicago in the summer, stop by and enjoy this perfect piece of art: located at Columbus Drive (301 East) and Congress Parkway (500 South) in Grant Park and runs from 8 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily, typically from early May through mid-October.

Eduardo Zagalsky

It's beautiful, I proposed in front of the fountain

Lin C

It's actually worth the walk from the lakefront trail. I'd never bothered because I thought it's a very touristy thing to do. But it's a lovely sight and lovely area to stroll along.

Satoshi Kanda

The scenery in morning wad good. But, it was stop.

Kent Yung

A stunning architecture, a beautiful view of the lake, washrooms are close by, which is a rare case for outdoor attractions in Chicago. And of course on a hot sunny day running by the spraying water of the fountain is definitely a treat.

Beautiful fountain day or night. I would recommend visiting at night if you can but it's gorgeous anytime. My only complaint has nothing to do with the fountain. It's based on the bike trolleys. They need to turn OFF their music and allow people to just experience nature and the sounds of the water.

Absolutely beautiful. You can see this fountain from navy pier and Cindy's rooftop bar. There is a garden area nearby and a separate lawn area that was full of geese. Crossing the street from fountain puts lake Michigan right at your feet. The view of the sail boats is also a sight to see. Wear good waking shoes so you can stroll over to the bean after this.

One of the most iconic - if not the most famous - fountain in the United States! The history of this Chicago landmark is most interesting. A must-see when in the city (Summer-time only).

A nice place to roam around....ambiance is pretty good in the evening...lighting adds value to this place in the night. A good place to relax in peace for sme time.

The fountain and the whole big part around it was great. We went to a good festival there and had a great time. Tons of people, lots of food. Clean and safe.

Walk up on this fountain while attending taste of Chicago. Everybody had to have a picture by the fountain. BREATH TAKING

Gorgeous to watch run in the summer. You won’t be disappointed to come see it.

Such a beautiful fountain. The park area surrounding it is just as beautiful. I never realized there was a small rose garden before the fountain. Definitely a sight worth seeing, and great backdrop for portraits/photography shoots!

Beautiful Georgia marble made into quite a large & lovely fountain! It's very peaceful in the morning!

If you aren't from the area this is a must. The fountain is beautiful. Even the pavers are nice to look at! It's a nice feature to walk past to cool off on a hot day or just sit by and take in the atmosphere. The only way you can go wrong is by not stopping by.
