Very interesting piece of history. If you're around Custer, Idaho, and are interested in history, this dredge is worth a stop. Run by volunteers and the forest service, the tour is very interesting. We took the Custer Motorway road from Challis. We had a truck with a camper, pulling a trailer, and did just fine. Just long, and hot to get there.

Quite a sight to see. Well worth checking out if you are in the area. The tour is well worth doing, I have been through it a few times. Last time I went through there was some damage from winter snow that closed off part of the tour which was a shame, you can still see the area you just couldn't go into the damaged area.

First time visiting this place. Was pretty cool to see and walk through this old dredge and be able to experience what they did to make this giant machine run. Was able to see the ghost town that is just up the road. Kids enjoyed everything and the tour guides get the children involved which made it fun for them. All in all the drive was scenic and the experience was fun.

This is a very rare piece of US history left fully intact and in it's original location. Driving out Yankee fork really transports you back to what it must have looked like a hundred years ago during the gold/silver boom. The equipment is colossal and it's hard to imagine that it was built on location all by hand and each nut and bolt assembled by the workers at the time. The couple that were living there and working in the store and doing the tour were very smart and educated about the area and the era that it came from and were both life long prospectors as well that currently travel the US and mine for gold. The tour was rich with gold fever history and the machine is fascinating to learn about. I would highly recommend for anyone who is into Mining and US history.

Craig Crandall
