Mark Boyer

Wonderful glimpse into the history of the Nez Perce. Was fortunate enough to spend a good deal of time speaking with native tribal persons.

Bryce Caster

This is an unusual National Park Service site because it is located on a reservation and contains sites spread over 4 states. There is no one site that jumps out as a "wow" destination, but the vast grouping of sites helps to tell the complex history of the Nez Perce tribe. The "town" of Spalding contains the visitor center and the largest grouping of sites.

This review is mostly for the visitor center, as the park spans many miles and is made up of many historical sites throughout the quad-state area. The museum is small, but filled with beautiful pieces of historical and cultural value from the Nez Perce people. A short 20 minute video is well worth your time. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable.

Lovely park, but the history signs show a decidedly one sided (pro missionary/ American) perspective for what is a far more complex story.

FREE and very interesting!! A great air conditioned place to stroll through and take a travel break at. Lots to see, touch and learn in this small location. The friendly knowledgeable staff and the beautiful park surrounding the center were the icing on the cake.

Bob Crouse

Very educational. I did not realize that the Nez Perce had been forced on a 400 mile trek across country. It shows a very dark spot in our history. It was very similar to the Japanese Bataan death March. So our own history is not so good, especially when you take in that the tribe had tried to work with our government. The constant breaking of treaties buy us forced the indigenous peoples to take action.

Sue Gentile

Nice exhibit. Very informative about their lives and history.

Sara Hall

A must stop to get a very small glimpse of some sense of the lifestyle of the Nez Perce people. A glimpse of what they had before western explores arrived, a glimpse of the changes forced on them by the same explorers, and the tragedy of the army attacking the native people in their homelands.

Mountains Are Best

A truly moving experience, both intellectually and emotionally. The history and culture of the Nez Perce are both fascinating. One of the most interesting things in the museum was labeled a "calendar" but the park person explained it as a "life or time line." It was a small ball of string with objects tied on at differing lengths. The objects were to "remind" the owner of significant events in their life or the life of the tribe. The string was unrolled to facilitate remembering an order of events. A fascinating way to keep an oral history not mentioned in Park materials. I felt fortunate to have been instructed by a female Park employee who belonged to the Tribe. Well worth a long drive.

Thom Buras
