This is a nice little out of the way park with a lot of history. There are plaques that tell of the massacres that took place. Between the Indians and the settlers coming west. There is also beautiful landscape to see backed up with cliffs and the Snake River. When one sees the area it's easy to see why attacking the settlers in this area was so easy. Some of the original cliffs that formed hell's gate no longer exists but there are pictures to show people how it was.
Filled with history. Very helpful staff. It was really windy the first night and road noise in the spot I picked so I asked to move. I wound up moving 1 other time to explore the entire park. They could not have been any more accommodating. The fees are reasonable. Will be back for more adventures in the area.
Nice spot to stretch and relax.
Gorgeous view. Very accommodating. Clean bathrooms/showers with really hot water. Interesting hiking and photogenic areas. Overall great stay.
Historically significant and a worthwhile stop to the visitors center!
Massacre Rocks is a great place to go for a getaway, whether it's for a day or for a weekend. There's so many things to do such as go on a canoe or kayak, hike one of the trails, and go fishing. I stayed for my birthday and it was a lot of fun. The staff is super friendly. Billy and Carlos are the best out there. They put in a lot of work making the place a great spot to be at.
It was a really nice peaceful place to stay and showers bathrooms are clean
A wonderful historical site to visit, take a break from driving and have lunch at. The visitor center had some interesting artifacts and, at the time of my visit, million year old fossils. They are on loan from the university but were found in the local area. So definitely worth seeing those before they go back to the university. The boat ramp area has cute little picnic benches and some floating docks to take in the view and the power of the Snake River. Go across the highway and see Register Rock. Your 5$ per car fee covers both attractions. I would love to come back to camp and take advantage of the disc golf course and hikes in the park. Great time!
Great geological and historical sites. Well worth taking the time to stop and read the interpretative signs explaining features along the trails.
Had a blast with my kids
Quiet, calming place. Some freeway noise, but nothing you can't ignore. Perfect place for boating and kayaking on the Snake river. Very nice spaces.
Stayed here in a cabin in the winter off season in late january. only person in the campground. Temps dip into the teens. Was actually quite warm in the cabin, thanks to a wall mounted electric heater and an oil heater they provided. bed was comfortable and the views were amazing, with a very clear view of the stars at night. Glad I stopped over instead of staying in a hotel. Word of advice, although a reservation is not needed, staffing and hours of operation are extremely limited in the winter months, call before showing up and leave a message if needed to coordinate an arrival to make sure someone will be there if you want to rent a cabin.
It is so beautiful and looks like a great place to camp and fishing!
Beautiful and peaceful!
Great camping along Snake River with nice amenities, 2 disc golf courses, river access, bird watching, bouldering, and rock climbing
If you want to fish the Snake, take your boat but camping looks good
Only got to do one hike, but the rocks and landscapes were pretty cool. The river cutting through the valley is a beautiful sight.
Beautiful views, clean state park, nice location. We will visit again.
Great area for a variety of activities: bird watching, photography, fishing and getting away from it all. I do hope you like the wind, though.
Magnificent view of the river and rock formations. Hiking trails, kayaking, disc golf, fishing. The restrooms and showers are well maintained. Quick trip to town, if needed.
We were there for a very short visit. Friendly and informative attendant great views. Lots of fish breaking the surface. The 5 bucks were worth the 2 hours.
It was ok. you had to drive to anyplace else to fish or sight see. You could hike down to a dock. The camping spaces seemed unplanned. awkward space. Overall a beautiful place though.
Great experience! Lots of wildlife. Beautiful sunsets over the water. (Bats pictured below)
Lots to learn here. Good amount of walking. If you're interested in the Oregon trail, stop here for 2 hours or so.
Great staff clean camp sights and cabins fun disk courses great snake learning and love looking at the bats
Nice quiet place with wonderful views of the river. Has a dump station for those with a camper or motorhome.
Well run campground, beautiful scenery, friendly staff. What's not to love?
Beautiful area with lots of history. There is funding access in multiple areas along the site. There is frisbee golf throughout the site and a network of trails connecting them through the sagebrush, sand, and lava rocks. You can see the Oregon Trail wagon tracks by walking the paved path north of the park and under the interstate to the south side. I'm glad I went.
Would be a great place to go in 60 degree temp.
Great camping rv stop right off the highway. Friendly ranger, electric hookups, showers, dump station and clean bathrooms. We'd stop here again.
It's a celebration of history, sagebrush and cedar along the banks of the Snake River.
Second time there. Very pleasant park amidst the giant lava rocks with campsites nestled hillside along the Snake River.
Great park! The staff is awesome!
Nice nature trail. Beautiful views
Very nice camping area. Clean restrooms and friendly staff. Interesting history.
We had a great time, hiking and fishing. The cabin (Cottontail)we stayed in was perfect for the five of us. Close to the fishing docks, restrooms and showers. The girls did a little rock climbing it was great. The only thing we would have like to do was the canoeing but the tiver was running to fast making it dangerous for inexperienced people like our us:). We will definitely be back next summer. Also the park staff were friendly and did a great job of keeping everything clean. Thanks for a wonderful weekend!!
Rocks, snake river, what more could you want?!
A very beautiful place to visit with some interesting history behind it.
Website for the place is wrong on almost everything. No where does it say that the restrooms are closed in March in the campground along with the water. Also the website's pricing is not what the fee is here. It was almost ten dollars more than we anticipated. Seriously, over $30 for no restroom, showers, or water at the site? I will never camp here again.
Beautiful park with trails, camping, picnic areas, boat ramp and visitors center
Love camping here. Right now part of the campground is closed for the winter.
Had a one night stay here in Aug ‘19. Situated on Snake River. Clean facilities. Friendly people.
Beautiful place caught fish on the river everyday. Park is amazingly beautiful woke up on the snake every day ready to fish
Nice park with water and 50 amp hookups. Dump station, boat launch, showers available. 2 loops, the lower one closer 2 the river has some with views also hot afternoon sun. Upper loop is closer to the freeway so you may have road noise
Lots of history including Oregon trail pioneers and signatures carved in stone dating back to 1800s. Very interesting and also gives some feeling of how things were at that time. Visit Register Rock also about 2 1\2 miles away.
Neat spot
We stay here with our truck camper every year on our way from CA to Montana to visit friends. This is a good place!
Beautiful views picnic areas by the river
So awe inspiring l, very was a great ptgram
Beautiful views of the Snake River as you walk the River Trail at this park. There is also a boat ramp. If you're hiking, be sure to take the wildlife trail, which adds a better view of the scenery across the river.
This is a well maintained State Park! Beautiful views everywhere. An no bugs!!! We came armed to do battle with mosquitos, and saw none! Close to Register Rock. Desert, so no grassy areas, but if you don't mind a little dust and dirt, it is a great place to stay!
Great views. Lots of easy hiking trails. Good clean bathrooms. Lots of history on oregon trail. Right next to snake river if you want to camp and boat to the small islands. It is a pay to enter state park.
What an awesome history lesson. Take time to read the information available at the Visitors Center. Explore the area and take in some of the spectacular vistas that permeate the area. Camping, boating, fishing and hiking abound in the Park. Also take time to visit nearby Register Rock.
Campground is very well kept and has many luxuries like flush toilets, showers, and trash cans near camp sites. There are also "camp hosts" who stay at the campground and were very friendly and helpful. Lots of good views. Very close to highway which helped me sleep but might be annoying if you don't like the noise.
Beautiful area. We love to stop and play the 9 hole disc golf course. Another reason to get your state parks pass
Perfect time of year to visit Massacre Rocks State Park. Only one other camper there, a little chilly, a little snow, but absolutely beautiful. That $10 idaho state park pass is well worth it.
Great spot, beautiful.... My bf and I LOVED this place.
Very quiet except for the highway and me. Friendly people all around
Beautiful scenery with sagebrush and small cacti. The Snake River flows adjacent to the campground. Scenic views of the distant rock ledge of a former waterfall. There are some of the nicest state park employees I have ever encountered at this park. They were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Some hiking and views of the Old Oregon Trail available. Worth the stop.
If your into historic stops or enjoy camping, fishing then this is a good place to check out. They even have small cabins that you can rent if your not into sleeping outdoors. Has a full size frisbee course, plenty of trails to walk or hike. Alot of signs that explain things about the area and specific events that happened in areas around the park. They do have a shop slash ranger station that is manned about half the year. In all this place is very interesting and gives you a nice insight into our history or American history if your not from the USA.
Interesting place
The disc golf course here is great smaller but fun. I will definitely be coming back again to play this is by far one of my new favorite courses.
Gorgeous! Easy stop right off the interstate. Worth the $5 entrance fee for the perfect spot to stretch my legs and walk the dogs. There's so much to enjoy that you just can't see from the interstate. Must do if you're passing through.
The camp grounds are very well kept. The bathrooms where pristine.
I live not too far from here and am here at least 10 times a year. There are trails to walk, there is a frisbee golf course, boat launching onto the Snake River, fishing spots from the edge of the river, tent, trailer and RV camping spots as well as cabins. The visitor center staff is knowledgeable and courteous. It's an all around fun place if you like the outdoors.
Nice moderately quiet place. Friendly host. We stayed in the upper loop so there was occasional freeway noise..but not horrible. Sites have 30 and 50 amp service plus water. No sewer at sites but there is a dump station a 1/4 mile up the road. Lots of hiking trails nearby, and nice views of the snake river.
Drove by a million times and never stopped. So glad I did. Signature Rock was my favorite. The staff was awsome. Really enjoyed learning the history. Cant wait to go again
Nice and peaceful! The frisbee gulf was fun too.
Very enjoyable camping in the off season when it's not hot. The restroom have showers! There is a frisbee golf course around the camping area. Lots of cool history... Both human and geology. Bring a fly swatter... That was literally the only downside of the trip. LOTS of flys.
Massacre Rocks State Park was great stopover wish we had more time. It was close to road but I didnt find that a problem. Toilet\Shower was a bit rustic but clean. Would definitely stay again
It was very interesting to learn what really happened there
A lot of good Boulder routes. Watch for rattlesnakes
Tons of info on the skirmish between wagon trains and Indians. The map near the door if the Oregon and California Trails is amazing.
This place is ruggedly beautiful. Located right on the snake river. The campsites are well maintained and large. They even have a few cabins you can rent. Fun activities abound....disk golf, kayaking, fishing, hiking, to name a few. Not a bad way to spend a weekend.
Scenic peaceful lower Campground doesn't have much traffic noise
Nice campground. There are plenty of restrooms and showers. The campground and facilities are clean and well kept. The staff and camp hosts are friendly. There are plenty of trails to hike. We'll be back for sure!!!
Nice campground with great scenery. Very hot in August.
Every time I come here there is something new that I notice. This is the first time that I had seen that there is a waterfall coming right off of that area where we drive around and drops into the canyon. Now I know that this is the start of the Thousand Springs area but I've never been this close to the upper water when it's dropping down into the river and Canyon. When I have time I will continue to come by here and explore and find out what is new and maybe I will make it across that metal walking bridge.
Nice place to visit easy to get to.
This is the most beautiful place i have ever seen. Camping along the snake river. Fishing is great. Millions of stars. Friendly people. Not expensive. This rates with Yellowstone. Outstanding!!!
This is a very great place to camp! We were traveling and looking for a place to camp as it was getting late, Massacre Rocks State Park is right off of the main road and has good camping spaces, clean restrooms with showers and a very beautiful view besides!
Really fun place to take the family hiking or camping. Beautiful overlooks of the Snake River
Well taken care of facility with breathtaking views. I make sure to stop by when I pass thru. Night or day, the scenery never disappoints. Not usually very busy.
Friendly and informative staff, frisbees available to rent and try out the disc golf course. Lots of fun, just be careful on the first half of not your mammas course, there was a lot of burned metal and broken glass on the ground.
Wonderful park, friendly, helpful staff! Amazing place with something for the whole family: history, geology, and biology.
Beautiful campsites. Will stay there again
Bring you fishing pool. The is also a lot of little rabbit running around.
It's really nice and peaceful park very well maintained good trip.
Really fun Disc Golf course.
The area was beautiful and fishing was not to bad, but we didnt read the sign when we went in and got harassed by a old guy with a beard about not paying, he was very rude and made a racist remark to me and my family. Overall reguardless of the grinch who came to yell at us about 5$, WE LOVED IT THERE even left a 10$ tip to show some love
Nice visit. A few things to check out. Seems more for fisherman and camping then site seeing but still worth a stop.
We loved having water & electricty, & having a dump station nearby. Wish the Visitor Center was open. That was a big disappointnent our family!!
Massacre Rock State park, dont let the name scare you away. This is located deep in the Juniper forest of Idaho. Hookups are at each camp with a dump station on your way out. Handicap bathroom and separate Shower area, public restrooms with flushing toilets. Clean! The cabins for rent on site are really nice, bring your own beddings, bathroom essentials, and such. They have power Wifi, window air conditioning , a bunk bed, futon, small table, nice front decks facing snake River and are nearest public restrooms and showers. The campground has information about renting small boats for River use.
As long as you're prepared for the heat this park is well laid out with almost all the expected amenities. The visitor center is well staffed and along with the camp host a very helpful crew. Lots of hiking trails and information about the history of the area and the place. A couple of challenging Geocaches make for family fun.
Wow!! Has changed alot sinve the last time I was here!! It even has a frisbee folfing course. ( 18 holes )
Other than being hot( not there fault) best place to go for family picnics 2 1/2 miles away is register rock another awesome place just watch out for snakes
Peaceful and uncrowded.
Great views.
