REVIEWS OF Idaho Potato Museum & Potato Station Cafe IN Idaho

Zertus26

Fun place if you like potatoes. Make sure you get a baked potato and potato ice cream in the cafe

Rogers George

Interesting place. I happen to be a tech writer, and I found a few typos in the signage. The hostess seemed genuinely glad to have me point them out. She said two of them were new to her. My wife says the little cafe had her favorite menu: every menu item had potatoes in it, even the ice cream.

Michael

Small and fun. Would be a great place to take your tindr date, as the spuds make things very romantic. I think I want to get married here.

Clara Henes

Awesome, just need more kid stuff in gift shop!

Sam Kelsall

Got there at 615pm. Figured they were closed. Spent too much time on the old potato planting and harvesting equipment. Thenrealized they were open till 7. Went inside and got a great tour. Could have spent 2 or more hours. Ended with potato ice cream. It was good. This is a must stop in southeast Idaho.

John Moore

Nice place has lots of history about the start of the Idaho's potatoes and more

A Enriquez

If you like roadside attractions this is worth checking out. Don't forget to ask for your taters for out of staters if you live outside Idaho.

anna pass

Nice museum. We compared it to the one in Gent and yes there are some differences, but we had fun.

Scott Royce

Awesome history lesson and fun facts and displays

Victoria Rafa

Helpful and friendly gift shop staff. Interesting displays. Unfortunately, it seemed that they could not decide.between serious and kitsch at times. The cafe features potato goodies but was out of about half of the items listed on the menu when we were there. The french fries were good though, hot and tasty.

Julie Bauman

What a gem! Just enough education on all things potato, gift shop was nice, plus: "Free 'taters for of staters"! Cafe was out of baked potatoes and soup and potato salad when arrived. Waited a bit for a potoato, and it was delicious! Definitely stop in if in the area.

Malavika Muralidharan

A lovely little museum to learn all about potatoes. We stopped here on the way down from Yellowstone/Grand Teton and spent about an hour here. The cafe has a baked potato bar, some other options and potato ice cream (the huckleberry was YUM!). They give out free mashed potatoes/tots for out-of-staters and the gift shop gave us a cute mesh bag instead of the usual paper/plastic bag.

Nancy Webbet

Wonderful place to take out of towners

Kimberly Encinias

Good little museum to spend some time if you're in the area. 6 bucks per adult and baked potatoes start at 1.99. They have potatoe ice cream but I didn't try that. Sgow your out of state ID for some potaotes to take home.

Marsha Baker

It was a great little museum. The spuds in the cafe were tasty.

Jodie P

It was a great experience. Staff are so nice and the potatoes are so good in the cafe. I will highly recommended it to everyone..

Adventures Around the World

It's a fun little museum. It is very little (really only two rooms a gift shop and an ice cream shop). But it is fun to learn about the history of the potato, see different tools used in the planting and harvesting, see potato collectibles, and taste ice cream made with potatoes (no it doesn't taste like potatoes)

Easter Hunter

I learned a lot about pototes.and at the end of the tour I ate the best bake potatoe that I ever had.

Niels Christensen

The museum is very well done with story boards of the development of the potato, tools and equipment used, and a little restaurant at the end.

Jose Jimenez

Staff is really friendly! Learned a lot of fun facts about potatoes.

Yunhui Han

Hahaha you will have so much fun if you love potatoes

Douglas Quincy Rohal

It is a nice experience there is some genuinely interesting potato artifacts, and facts. It is a self guided tour that will probably take 45 minutes. And the cafe in my opinion was a bit sub par, they have recently told me in winter months they keep low stock. Though the food itself was good. Defenatly would go to the cafe more than once. But that first time is truly an experience you will never forget. I will have to go by again.

Chaitanya Reddy Mettu

We liked the idea of museum but didn't end up going in as there was a crawling line at the counter. The cafe was cool, we ordered French fries as most of the stuff was not available at that point of the day. Really wanted to try the potato flavored ice creams.

Katie Kosier

Fun place! Lots of info and interactive activities. Cute Cafe and gift shop with "free taters for outta staters!"

Lester Tunigold

Nice little stop. Girl at counter was super sweet and gave us a bag of potaters for outta staters. Lol.

Robyn Burton

We enjoyed it thorpughly. Kids played with me potato head, and interactive computer games. Lots of fun.

Nicolas Van Tomme

Very small not worth the stop especially after the museum of clean. They also ask 6 dollar a person. A bit overpriced.

Little museum packs a lot of information. Nice stop with lunch to boot.

Kurt Wiese

Stopped for a quick lunch and it was more than expected - a great potato bar, good selections, and you get your money's worth here. Will be back the next time in town.

O Union

Reasonable admission fee. Big and clean parking lot. Very friendly and experienced local employees. Never knew so many things about potatoes history, Idaho history of hard working guys. Exposition was interesting for all ages of visitors. At the end of this museum you can try different kinds of potatoes meals.

Seth Camarillo

This place is Peak Roadtrip, if you are coming through town. You must go. Yes the kitsh is fun, yes the displays are informative, yes the snacks are tasty. BUT the main thing is, do you really want to say you passed this up when you talk about your road trip? no. the answer is no.

Kira Petmecky

Fantastic trolley tour! The guy was super knowledgeable and fun! The driver was so nice and drove smoothly.

April

Very interesting Museum. A lot more to growing a potato then you think.

Nanci Ceja

We've gone twice within a year. Although it is small, there's so much to learn! The building use to be a train station! I have yet to try the café but it looks yummy! Kid friendly, affordable price, the gift shop has a lot of neat things to see. The lady from the front desk is so nice and helpful. We were given free hash browns on our way out with pens for the children to wear. They have an area for kids as well. Love the place.

Amanda Zive

My son and I really enjoyed this museum. Out front there are old potato farming equipment, inside there were a lot of little displays of all forms of potatoes including facts and bits of history. We had lunch at the cafe, including, of course a baked potato with all the fixins. The potato ice cream wasn't really our thing but I'm glad we tried it!

Jennifer Bowhill

Thoroughly enjoyed our side-trip here. It’s a quirky, yet informative and interesting place. And the potato in the cafe was great!

Michael Kane

Great museum, stupid staff. Went there twice for baked potatoes and they aren't even close to getting it right

Joseph Meyers

Awesome museum. Will come me back again! If you're driving through Blackfoot, make sure to stop in. Also tons to do for children.

A delightful, little museum dedicated to the humble Idaho potato that also has a cafe serving excellent baked potato and other potato goodies. We had a nice lunch here on a pit stop in our drive from Salt Lake City to West Yellowstone.

Finley OCallaghan

I loved the fresh tumeric and ginger drink, lamb biryani and garlic naan. The atmosphere had a fresh boost of color that is a great blend of old and new. I really thought it would be like every other Indian restaurant and was wonderfully surprised. Try it!!!

Jim Monroe

Everything you need to know about potatoes. Very interesting.

Margaret Sen

Ok. I liked it. It was a fun short stop. Not too much out of the way. It will take you an hour at the most but I thought it was informative. They have a cafe with a baked potato, French fries and potato ice cream. You read that right.

Alex

It’s just a little

Jessica Bogie

So much fun! Delicious potatoes and awesome potato souvenirs!

Great place to take the family. Fun history that is shared. Did our spuds in the US originate in Ireland? No. Go here to see where they came from!

Janet Harrison

Nice little museum. Worth the stop. Interesting facts about potatoes, kids corner and a cafe.

Kevin Burk

Enjoyed it alot. Was passing through on our vacation and decided to stop and take a look. Really enjoyed the McDonald's french fry story. Will stop again when passing through. Kevin

Miranda Thomason

You can eat at the potato cafe without going through the museum. It cost $4 per person to get in the museum. The staff at museum are very friendly. There is a life size cardboard cut out of Marilyn Monroe wearing a potato sack. That is a photo op. My favorite part of the museum was the talking potatoes explaining potato cellars. We ate at the cafe and I got a potato with salsa. So a vegan can eat here. Another option was the seasoning containers on the counter. There were Tabasco packets for the potatoes as well. Outside is a giant potato with a sign for the museum. A Boy Scout Troup put a device to hold a phone. Then set the timer on the camera for the phone. You get a great picture.

Stancil Family

Great little museum and cafe. A must do in a small town.

Nicole Mekker

Cutest little museum! Definitely worth the stop if you're passing through. And the baked potatoes at the cafe are DELICIOUS.

Blue Willow

Cute place, good food, great people!

Kevin Feeney

This spud is for you. In historic RR station

patgoert

The Idaho Potato Museum was a fabulous find! It was extremely well done with many graphic explanations, lots of photographs and some antique potato equipment. You might be surprised at all the information you will find out there! Did you know that Americans eat 147.9 lb of potatoes per year! Great gift shop as well!

Victoria Fisher

This is a fun (albeit brief) stop. The owner seems to really care about the place. The potato ice cream was surprisingly delicious. Also, there were singing potatoes.

Sue Gentile

Informative museum. Potato Rocky road ice cream ok.

Beverly Beadles

What a great stop! Loved leisurely walking through the museum and grabbing a bite of lunch at the cafe.

Doug Carling

We'r always like to find fun out of the way places to visit. This didn't disappoint. Was a lot of fun. Make sure to get a picture with the world's largest potato.

Diane F

Fun place and eat a potato while you're there!

Shannon Campos

Mike VanderSys

A must stop if you're in Idaho, Blackfoot is a hidden gem in Idaho and the museum it's a great place to go and they got great food

Just not that inspired. The place is run down.

Elizabeth Jones

It was super fun for a quick stop on the road. In the cafe, very much recommend the Potato salad, it was delicious.

McKenna Schnaubelt

Really small but lots of interesting things! Everyone passing through should stop and see this

Nicole Ward

Really fun and quirky museum. Didn't expect to see the largest potato chip/crisp. The cafe also had potato icecream.

Jessica Hemani

It is quaint museum . Loved the potato cakes ( couldn't tell they were made with potatoes ) it's a great stop if it is a small detour off your route. I would not go all the way to see the museum.

Chris Long

This place may seem corny but it's actually a very informative museum. The exhibits are full of info and they even have a hands on area for the kids. The gift shop is full of unique potato themed gifts, and they have a cafe where you can order different potato themed items. A little sitting area inside and outside to eat at. Overall interesting and fun

n edwards

A sort-of fun, very small, museum dedicated to potatoes. There is an admission cost of $6/person which is a bit steep for what amounts to two rooms of exhibits. You can easily see the whole thing in about twenty minutes. You do get a bag of freeze-dried potatoes as a souvenir though.

Patrick Star

I learn so much about poatatos that I did not know. Also there is poatatos games for kids and you can eat poatatos there!

Randy Harper

Good to visit once if in the area.

Stacy Clark

So we went here because it was the only thing Google told us there was to do in town. There is also a lake u can go and dip your feet in. There are many features to this museum from old harvesting thing, a nice red tractor, and a kids play area where u can play with Mr. Potato. You have to pay to get in but you can get a AAA, military, and senior discount here, and some cool things from the gift shop.

Steven Schultz

I wanted to go in, but it seemed overpriced for the size of the museum. So I just looked on Google reviews and saw what was inside and I felt satisfied with that. Ha, hey when you are on vacation you have to save where you can!

debasis satapathy

One fun way of experiencing and learning all I do about one of the most loved food in the universe

Dale Colyer

Very informative. You'll learn unusual potato facts. Hands on kids displays

Marika Jane

100k boy yoyo

i loved this place i recommend this cafe i will come here agen

Drew Colwell

As a native Idahoan I take great pride in our state's tater cultivation. Sure, we may not be the nations largest producers of taters but our taters make other states' taters look pathetic. I would be ashamed to be from a state that cant grow taters like Idaho's taters, like Washington. The museum provided me with a deeper knowledge of the tater from start to finish and when I left I felt more informed and ready to take on the world. The atmosphere was calming yet industrial and brought on a sense of pride. It also made me hungry for taters like French fries, mashed taters, tater chips, tater tots, taters au gratin, taters O'Brien, baked taters, tater salad and all the other wonderful dishes the versatile tater can create. Taters are truly nature's wonder next to cheese.

Shelagh Davis

Fun and informative. We where a little disappointed that the baked potato ice cream shown on the web page was no longer available at the cafe

DJ Coando

Cute lil place 4 the kids

Randy Raymond

Interesting facts about the potato. A small gift shop, and cafeteria.

Updated recently. Great history, not too long and it's entertaining. The fries and potatoes are delicious.

starr peterson

Cute place! Love the picture post stand at the potato. What a great idea. I want one for my business!

Jess Friedman

Delightfully quirky little museum about potato production. I didn't know I needed to an entire wall of potato mashers, but I'm so glad they had one. Their room full of potato memorabilia was hilarious and entertaining, and the lady in the gift shop was super funny. We didn't eat at the cafe, but maybe next time!

Cindy Armstrong

Cute place with interesting facts. Tried the home cut fries and huckleberry potato ice cream in the cafe and they were delicious!

Cyndee Loo

Had a great time and our baked potatoes from the cafe were very tasty

David Gleason

Great place to visit with the kids.

Excellent atmosphere and great food! A must check out if you are in town!! Awesome job!

James Goodman

A really cool spot to learn some interesting things about farming and marketing the humble potato, plus peculiar souvenirs and a super-sized spud out front. If you visit, you may wonder what happened to make two hours go by so quickly...

Sierra West

Very interesting! Never knew that information about potatoes could be engaging or fun to learn about. We stopped on a whim and I'm glad we did.

Tatsiana Barysava

Great museum, delicious food, nice gift shop!

mhswebmom

Quirky.. But fun and actually very interesting. The french fries was great and the potato ice cream was delicious. Yes I dragged my teenage kids there because I wanted to play tourist but they actually thought it was kinda cool to see.

Valerie Brian

Admission is reasonable. My 11 year old son had fun, but he enjoys history. I thought it was boring but worth it since my son had fun. They have stuff to entertain younger children too, and a gift shop and cafe as well

sharon preston

This was a fun little place to stop and look around for about 20 minutes. They have a small gift shop with fun items. The shop owners were very nice and they package your purchases in a potato sack. Very cute! It's not a place you would go out of your way to visit but if in the area you should stop in. And, be sure to take your picture while standing behind their sign out front.

Sierra Whitehead

So clean and very friendly staff! What a fun environment with a lot of potatoe facts and even a cafe! The baked potatoes and ice cream are great! Also had a lot of cute shirts and gifts! Free taters from out of staters!

Christoph Thaler

If you are in the area it is a quick stop with some information and a snack

Ashley Jirsa

The Idaho Potato Museum is the perfect combination of light hearted and informative. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and quantity of the exhibits. Don't forget to stop in the cafe for a baked potato. It's inexpensive and delicious. Oh, they also send you on your way with freeze dried hash browns!

Todd Williams

This is a really neat little museum. It's well organized and does a decent job showing the history of Idaho potatoes. There's activities for the kids. Definitely call ahead for the bake potato from the cafe.

Chad J.

Fun place! Lots of fun things to look at and read about. Even a little Cafe where you can try potato ice cream! Good stuff!

Rex Cluff

Interesting, worth the visit.

Jackson Larrat

It is a great place to learn about the great food with is the potato

Lynn Roberts

If you love potatoes .... Clap yo hands!!!! Unless you're driving....

Nanju Suh

Honestly, Yellowstone has nothing on the hilarity of enlightening oneself about the history of potatoes. Also, "Free taters for out-of-staters!"

Jim Klepacki

The perfect combination of the bizarre and amazing! To the boy scout who invented the selfie phone holder out front...I do hope you patented that. It should be at every venue that offers photo ops!

Michael Gerhold

Good food reasonable pricing

Sol Ridgeway

Not worth the stop. Not a single potato in the place. There big highlight is Mr. Potato heads, but it is a small table, they are all broken, and some of the pieces don't go to them... I couldn't figure out why they were there. Other then the Mr. Potato Heads and 90s computers, nothing was interactive, just writing on walls. Nice people.

B A

Ate 3 potatoes here, feel Idaho in my blood

Alexander Mai

Cafe very sad. Looks like an old person's garage that got left behind. As for food, garbage. For a place that specializes in potatoes, the french fries are like if they were blanched in oil and just slapped onto the serving plate. Raw stuff. -

Gilbert Nichols

The picture with the spud in the front is the best part, that's free. It's $12 to get in. I definitely learned lots about potatoes. I think it was overpriced.

Jennifer Farr

A one-of-a-kind experience!

K J

O.M.G. the woman in the gift shop was funny and awesome. They give you a small milk carton of dried potato for hash browns and said "here is some taters for out of staters." They way she said it with her accent, I was no good. I'm still laughing about it. The food in the cafe with Joanna and George was so delicious. Joanna was so kind and helpful. And GOD can she cook (she said she made the soup, and it is so delicious).

pramod mallya

It is good if you have a kid and want to teach them about potatoes. They charge 6 bucks per head. It is not the best 6 bucks spent. There is also fries. But nothing beats five guys fries!! That's my opinion.

Erin Hunter

So I haven't actually been here but it's a dang potato museum! I mean seriously they deserve the 5 star just for having a potato museum. If anyone has been here I will PayPal you for a potato hat. Seriously, message me.

Mahalakshmi Balakrishnan

Very Informative and interesting content! Do not miss the baked potato in the cafeteria!

Donavan Anderson

I didn't expect much when my wife asked to stop at the potatoe museum. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a fun informational museum of the history and growing of potatoes past to pressent. There were fun kids activities, interactive places and movies as well as typical displays. The cafe had potatoe ice cream it was really good as well as a potatoe bar and drinks. The gift shop was one of the best Ive seen, everything was potatoe related from the magnets, tshirts, peelers, games etc. A great place to stop.

Carol Ashton

Had lunch tiday, limited options as it is early tourist season. Potato soup great, wait person not so much.

Terri Lindholm

The potato museum cafe was awesome!

Cece Puls

I had already intended on visiting but David Myers review cracked me up and made me even more excited to go. I must say, it was EVERYTHING I had hoped it would be. It was the highlight of our quirky little road trip to Idaho. The museum was informative and interesting. The gift shop had a wide array of cute souvenirs. The cafe was very good and had lots of options. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. My son wants to return one day with his friend. Thanks from Arizona.
