Is that Old Faithful? Nope. It's just the local geyser attraction in Soda Springs, Idaho. In 1937 the city's founding fathers looked to utilize a warm water geyser as the source for a local swimming pool. To their surprise, the well turned into a 100 foot geyser and had to be capped. Today you can see the awesome natural travertine formation from the naturally carbonated water and enjoy the bright orange rock that looks like something you'd see on a computer screen saver.
The family enjoyed hiking the whole geyser basin. Great visit. Great place. Walkways seemed well maintained and in decent repair too.
PSA- 5/25 11am: Geyser is temporarily out of service.
Nice place
Heard about it when I was a kid and always thought it would need fun to see. Brought my kids and they loved it! Don't park down wind though... the geyser will leave water spots on your car!
Our kids love coming here and playing in the geyser. Beautiful fun location.
It didn't start exactly on the hour as it says, but definitely cool to see if you have time to stop! It starts small and then gets tall!
Reliable geyser, fun quick thing to do while passing through.
Pretty cool geyser. Cool history story. Shoots for a fairly long time.
Awesome geyser display
Cool place. Geyser goes off every hour on the hours. Last for about 4 minutes. The spring is naturally carbonated water. A small park nearby you can drink the water. Kind of nasty. But still very interesting. A must see if in the area.
This is actually a pretty cool place. Apparently when the geyser was first discovered it went off randomly and caused old faithful to not be so faithful. They had to put a timer on it to help make sure that old faithful stayed faithful. You can walk right up to the geyser and let the water fall on you. We went up with kids and had a fun time although it goes so high that it can be a little painful falling on your bare skin. Water is relatively warm.
Great to see the geyser go off every hour on the hour.
This is very cool right in town.
Could be really amazing. City does not maintain.
Not very well maintained, ice was built up on the board walk around the geyser viewing area. We got there 10 minutes before the geyser went so that part was nice.
A really interesting place to call into whilst on our travels. A Geyser that goes off every hour,on the hour so you are sure to see it in all of its glory. There is also some interesting history attached that makes a good read. Well worth breaking your travels for and stretching your legs.
It is pretty fun. People were on the geyser area and got soaked. It goes for about 5 mins. Definite stop if you are heading through. They have picnic tables and public restrooms.
Amazing thing to take the kid to. Good walkways and just enough benches to rest on. Nice and clean area of town. Easy to find. The signs entering town take you right to it. Don't park too close because the spray may blow onto your vehicle and leave mineral deposits. The eruption lasts about 6 minutes. The kids loved getting soaked on the down wind side. Dont be late....it is advertised to go off every hour on the hour but it started 2 minutes early.
Amazing little place right off the main road. Driven by so many times and never stopped. A must see if you are in the area.
A simple park but wow! I got there just as the geyser went off. It is like a clock it goes off at the top of the hour.
Interesting history, two blocks of the main road. The geyser erupts once an hour on the hour, as it is on a timer to prevent to much pressure build up. The geyser is 70-100 feet tall and a big hit with kids.
Small park , but was large enough for everyone to see the geyser easily.
Geyser Park inside the geyser by a couple minutes as it goes of by the hour. It is a timed geyser and the one and only caped geyser that they timely release. Hopefully I'll see it go off next time I drive by.
It was amazing! I really enjoyed walking around it while it was going off
The geyser goes off every hour, on the hour. There is a high platform to stand on to observe from above, but there is a boardwalk with benches here and there to watch from as well. The geyser shoots for five minutes and then turns off. Plenty of time for a picture and video. There was not a lot of people around, so your view is pretty well set wherever you are. Restrooms are in the building to the left of the geyser.
Neat little park and attraction, great place to sit and have lunch while waiting for the eruption.
Waited from 3:10-4:15 and nothing. I guess if you want to look at the cool rocks it’s cool but for it to come up every hour on the hour is not true.
An interesting place to visit. The gyser erupts on the hour and does not disappoint.
My family loved the geyser, but we were all disappointed that the bathrooms were locked, that's where all the information about the geyser and our awesome town is, it was disappointing, other then that it is an awesome place to go and a cool thing to see the geyser go off.
Overall, quick easy stop for us along our ride home to break up the drive. Free and interesting historical spot. I'm not sure I would drive here for only this but definitely worth the stop if nearby.
We can enjoy the Natural beauty of the stains on the yellow rocks formed by the chemicals emitted from geyser
Supper pretty and fun.
Very cool
Be careful where you park as the guyser will cover your car in mineral water depending on how the wind blows. We parked downwind and we definitely needed a car wash after. Great spot to stop and stretch your legs. Interesting history here. Nice little walks and hikes. Good views.
Very unique experience. Alot of history.
Every hour on the hour. I came super early and just walked around and waited. It's pretty chill.
Super interesting history. Fun to watch go off. It goes off every hour on the hour. Beautiful area too.
It was fun to see. Didn't know it was there until someone told us about it.
Awsome
This was a nice stop on our way out of lava hot springs in Idaho. The geyser goes off every hour, there was some cool history there on the plaques, and was a nice spot to eat our picnic lunch. From what I can tell, people are allowed to play in the geyser water but I am not sure, we weren't dressed for it but on one of the pictures it seemed as if this was an approved activity.
Was cool to see.
It doesn't go as high like Yellowstone. It is on a timer and erupts every hour on the hour for about 5 minutes. Reading about the brief history on how it started, especially on the part that discussed when this geyser was constantly on after initial discovery, it directly affected and disrupted the timing of old faithful. That was pretty intriguing.
Shoots off every hour on the hour, it is a place to see
Fun to watch the geyser. Too bad it's in a commercial area!
Fun to see
Way more impressive than Old Faithful..shoots a lot higher too! Cool
Tall geyser on the hour.
pretty freaking awesome! It is more reliable than Old Faithful because it is in fact on a timer that goes off every hour on the hour so you won't feel ripped off waiting around for the next eruption. The water is surprisingly cool I would estimate somewhere in the 75 degree range... so you don't have to worry about getting scalded if you're standing somewhere and the wind happens to carry the overspray toward you. you might want to consider parking your car farther away from the geyser because that hard water will really do a job on your paint and put some spots on there. This is definitely worth your time to stop and take a look at.
Awesome geyser to see, blows every hour and it a sight to see
This was cool. It went off about 1.5 minutes early though, so get there a few minutes early do you don't miss it and half to wait an hour. The visitor center was cool to see and read about the area.
It's a fun little attraction. The geyser goes off every hour on the hour. It's very consistent because it's controlled by a valve rather than naturally. The pressure is all natural though. The kids can play in the water while it erupts. Park your car well away from the geyser and upwind as the water has lots of minerals and will spot your car horribly.
Enjoyed this place.. So much.dont for get your towels
Great place! Surprisingly you can actually walk up to the geyser! I really recommend stopping by if you're in the area
The geyser is man made and erupts every hour on the hour. Best advice I have to offer is park up wind from the Geyser. While it's and enjoyable site to see and experience, the water is extremely hard. And will require nothing less than extremely potent vinager and water solution to even think about getting the hard water stains off the windows. Or any other part of the vehicle for that matter. And then head in to Porter's Pub for a bite to eat. The meetin, Eating, Drinking place.
The geyser goes off every hour on the hour (it was a minute or two early according to my watch). It lasted a minute or two.
Great demonstration of natures force
The geyser was nice, but there were people walking through it which I did not anticipate
Such a cool place, tucked away in a quaint town. It goes off every hour, about on the hour. The information house is set up nicely, with clean bathrooms, water fountain, and so much great historical information about the geyser and the area. A favorite stop in the way to Jackson Hole.
Of you like to watch geyser come here and get fansinated by the wonders if nature.
This was a neat little find. I was not able to wait for the Geyser to go off due to my timing, but it was still pretty to look around. I found it interesting how the wood to the railings had start to age from the heat of the Geyser. Worth a short stop if you are driving by.
Great experience. Stay for the eruption.
Really fun to see the geyser shoot. Could have been a little more well marked from Main Street where exactly to turn in. It didn't go off right on the hour...more like 7 minutes past. I put my feet on the smooth rocks barefoot and it felt great! Keep watching as the geyser gets better as it goes. Definitely worth taking a detour for Soda Springs.
Fun to see.
Having never seen a geyser before this event was amazing and so pleased it is timed in the hour so you don't miss it. Viewing platform brilliant idea
Great little stop for the family. Easy access, lots of parking, restrooms and picnic tables. Geyser lasts about 5 minutes and goes about 50+ feet. Interesting mineral deposits, water flows, and small stream. Lots of information on signage.
I understand it has been modified, but it is still amazing and goes off on the hour, every hour for about 15 min. and its right in town behind the local pub!
Love hostoric places
Awesome three Geysers, museum, restaurant. Gorgeous and and
Lots of parking, bit far off the beaten track, and a fun spot to stretch your legs.
Great little geyser.
This place was interesting. After hearing the history, I am more intrigued with this geyser. I've heard the water spray leaves major marks on your car if you park too close, so be aware of that. Totally worth the stop, though. Be sure to read the signs around the park to learn about the history so you aren't disappointed with what just looks like a fire hose turning on and off.
Was a fun little stop on the way through soda.
Who knew there'd be a geyser right in the middle of town?! It's a neat spot to stop at and watch. It's set back behind buildings, and looks a little out of place, but the wooden path, and stairs will take you to get a better view of the eruption. There's even a hidden Geocache nearby!
Beautiful ❤️ Love the atmosphere and warm welcome. The small town hospitality is so refreshing.
Just some water that shoots up so that's fun I guess
If you're passing through Soda Springs close to the top of the hour, you'll enjoy the world of the Soda Geyser. It's set on a timer to go off at the top of every hour and is a sure site to see. The layered travertine is cool, as well as the multiple colors from the mineral water that comes out. Even if you don't make it when the geyser erupts, the bubbling effects of the geyser can be seen and enjoyed. A public restroom is available off to the west side. If you have time, a quick trip up to Hooper Springs (a carbonated spring) is a really fun experience.
Beautiful place * Loved the rolling hills in back, & the train tracks, & of course the train.
It was pretty, but the geyser was out of service.
A very cool place to visit, it shoots every hour on the hour for five minutes.
We missed the geyser going off by 5 minutes. But still enjoyed walking around it.
Absolutely gorgeous! The smell takes a minute to get used to but this is a must see sight!
A very unique place. Lots of memories made here.
Erupts every hour on the hour, fun history to this geyser.
Neat and surprisingly quite spot to enjoy the warm slightly sulfurous water. The timer was busted when I was there and only marked that it was out of operation in one location, which of course I saw after I'd been there over half an hour...
Really neat to see the cold springs geyser erupt. It goes off every hour on the hour and lasts about 5 minutes. Super cold water!
Very cool to see the geyser erupting.
Who can say they dont have 5 mins to see a geyser . Trucking life is awsome when u work with a great company. Holts trucking LLC dobson NC. We are hiring teams west coast benefits included great pay . Must have clean MVR and drug & drama free .
Who knew this was here? It blows at the top of every hour for about 5 min. Great fun to go watch an lots of kids were playing in it.
Fun fun fun!
Great place to take family. Geyser releases on the hour.
Lo e great place to stop and see soda springs goes off every hr on the Hour.. neat to see, lots of history in about the area as well it was a quick stop this time, but I will be going back for a longer visit..
Kind of cool. Don't park too close to it. The spray leaves a mess on your car that takes some effort to wash off.
Fun roadside attraction. The geyser is on an electric valve that lets the geyser build pressure for most of the hour, releasing at the top of the hour for 5-8 minutes. Water shoots about 70 feet in the air. Really fun to watch. There is also an historic observation point from the Cold War right next to it. Definitely worth a stop.
It was fun to watch the Geyser, but we were not able to go up to a lookout point, as there was snow and the walkways were not clear.
A fun detour to see and we timed it just perfect with a few mins til the geyser went off. It goes off every hour on the hour so it was fun to stretch our legs from our long drive and see it before continuing on to Stanley, ID
Good to visit once.
a drilling mishap makes a captive geyser
Nice place to see
could use some updating to the walk way but over all a fun experiance.
This is a cool thing to visit if your traveling through, but probably not worth the drive if your coming from or going to Yellowstone and will see bigger ones. But this one is cool, because you can actually go in it since it isn't hot and they have it on a timer and goes off every hour on the hour. my only complaint is they didn't make it easy to see or had signs saying it is there I found it on accident because the only signs I saw from the main road and even the road in front it was for the geyser muesem it didn't specify that the geyser was there.
If you drive through soda spring make this pit stop!! Its man controlled geyser these days but it was an accident at first!! If you get the chance go on by! Looooooved it so much!
This was so cool to watch. We stayed another hour to watch it again!
Great place to take the kids. Very unique.
It's a man made geyser in the heart of Soda Springs. What's not to love?
At the top of every hour, the geyser goes off. Fun site to see even though it is controlled by a timer. Otherwise, the downtown would be flooded!
Funny story about how this geyser got started.
It is a great sight for kids and adults alike! Go early or it is HOT!!!
Gorgeous geyser! Sulfuric smell but nothing you can really do about that. Erupts every hour on the hour, which is nice. Can either see it up close or in your car :)
Kiddos liked it
Interesting place to find out, had to cap it so wouldn't mess up old faithful 200 miles away.amazing
Its Ol' Faithful but cooler cause no one is there! U can walk right to it and kids can play in it
Not a natural geyser, but nice just the same. Just off the main highway in a beautiful area and nice small town reminiscent of days gone by
Would have liked that better if it wasn't controlled by the city
Very neat and a fun stop to see! Worth the wait. The geyser goes on for several minutes and is a neat sight to see!
It was a nice stop to get out and stretch out legs while we waited for the geyser to go off. Neat story and we got some cool pictures. It was 7 minutes late, so don't get discouraged when it doesn't go off right on the hour.
This was fun for the kids
Nice place to stop and picnic.
This geyser is really cool. It is actually on a timer, so it goes off every hour, exactly on the hour. It also goes off for almost 10 minutes straight, and it goes over 100 feet in the air. My kids loved seeing this!
I am glad we made the trip. Our family already visiting Lava Hot Springs. Soda Springs is a short drive east. It was about a 30 min drive from Lava. It was a fun experience. I recommend getting the Geyser as close to the hour as possible. Waiting can be hard for small children. I would recommended taking the trip if you are already going to Lava or in the area.
Great sight.
Fun to visit and photograph! I look forward to staying here and visiting longer.
It's got great history but the geyser is automatically set with a timer for each hour, on the hour. So it's not as cool as old faithful which is naturally operated but it is still something to see.
Sweet little gem in Idaho!
Geyser on a timer, but still neat. I guess they had to since it was messing with Old Faithful in Yellowstone. At least, that's what the gal in the restaurant across the parking lot said.
Such a great place to enjoy nature and the history of this little town on the map, all because of the bicarbonate spring. The Soda Springs Geyser goes off every hour on the hour for about 10 minutes. It really is spectacular. You can get very close to this natural eruption as a spectator. After the geyser goes off the geyser bubbles. The colors of the mineral deposits and calculation build are so incredible. Make sure and read the history board while there. So fascinating. This town was booming during the time of the railroad and even World Fair famous because of a club soda that was produced here from the springs and distributed by railroad.
Small town with very close knit people, very cool geyser! Well maintained area with lots of good informational signs.
This place is absolutely awesome my kids love it wish it was taken care of a bit more but its not bad
I want expecting too much as we were just cruising around checking out the area but this was a very nice surprise. Lots of things to see and a fairly easy hike.
Fun to see a geyser outside of Yellowstone. Cute little town!
This place is well Worth the Trip and Time The Geyser is in a quiet little town about 20 miles east of Lava Hot Springs In the many trips that I have been Going to Lava I have never been there It's Well Worth the time to take the short 20 mile to Soda Springs
Very neat story about it.
Weird but I dig it
The first thing you have to do is FIND the geyser. There were no signs along the road, other than several proclaiming the greatness of the geyser. We found it by luck because we stopped at the Maverick for lunch and saw the geyser launch. Keep in mind the geyser goes every hour on the hour so if you miss it, it's a long, boring wait for the next launch. There isn't much to do in town to bide your time either. Time it right and it's not a bad geyser to see. I wouldn't drive out of my way to see it.
Great little stop to have lunch
Pretty cool gyser for sure! Goes off every hour on the hour. Will worth a visit and great for kids. Careful not to park your car in the spray zone. Hard water can be hard to get off.
It's a geyser. Pretty cool but not life changing. Worth it to watch if you're in the neighborhood but don't drive a long distance just to see it
More impressive than old faithful. It's also more faithful
Watching this is so cool.
Man created and timed..so does not have the aura of a natural geyser. Nevertheless worth stopping by if you are in the area.
Impressive regulated geyser
Great place to stretch the legs and a must see if you are passing through.
Great place to visit. Cool history.
Picture an old faithful that you can play in that won't melt your face off and wha-la! You have Soda Springs geyser
Old Faithful is less faithful than it was when I was a boy visiting from Alaska. Still a marvelous attraction.
Love the unusual
Kids loved seeing the water
Interesting if you happen to come at the right time
