Really neat old mission, farthest north Adobe building in the USA walls are covered with boards with adobe inside the walls. Oldest standing building in this part of the USA. They have all the birth records of all of the native Americans in the area since about 1500ad. Awesome, Thanks Cataldo!

Lovely stop in a beautiful place. For some reason the state park below the Mission grounds was closed. There is a nice trail to walk with plenty of signage. The mission itself is interesting. There's a visitor center too.

So wonderful to have this bit of history and faith in northern Idaho! The amazing labor that went into building the Church - from wooden pegs to cat hair paint brushes - shows forth the love and dedication of the Priests and Native Americans.

Beware!! We drove past the empty booth, parked, went into the visitors information center to find out about the mission, if they give tours, and possible camping for next summer. After using the restrooms, I approached the counter, where two ladies told me that I needed to pay admission. As I was trying to explain that we came in to find out about the mission, I was interrupted and forcibly told that because we had left our car, AND had used the restrooms, I had to pay, and if I had a problem with that I could write a letter. Are you kidding me?!?!?!?! They then notified me that the Indian tribe, who collects the money, makes the rules. If this weren't so incredibly insane it would be aggravating lol!!! We came inside the INFORMATION CENTER to find out about the place! The couple that came in at the same time as us had the exact same thing happen to them as well. These ladies sit there all day long charging people for entering a visitors center, and they really believe they aren't robbing people. Too funny. I mean really. My wife and I laughed about it for fifty miles.

Cataldo Mission is a national landmark and is Idaho's oldest standing building. It was constructed in 1850-1853 by members of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe. The Mission, the priest parrish, and the visitor center combined tell the story and the historical significance of it all. It was a wonderful tour that gave us a clearer perspective of how two different cultures collaborated in a search for a God that serves all mankind.

Carla Bamford

Out of the way but worth it.

Daniel McCorkendale

This is great place for family and school trips there is so much history that you just don't get from a book. I am not saying book are not a good source of knowledge but it is not the same as the hands on experience of seeing how the mission was built and having it right in front of you while you are listening to the store of missionaries and builders
