REVIEWS OF Fort Pulaski National Monument IN Georgia

Ben Hess

very cool place to visit do not be rushed you will miss so much spent minimum 3hrs to do full walk through if not even 4 to 5hrs alot of history! good place to take family and they have a picnic area upfront! definitely would visit again

Julie McDowell

This was a great experience and my favorite fort I’ve visited. Be aware that the fort is enormous with limited protection from the sun so make sure to take plenty of water and sunscreen. The views from the top in all directions are breathtaking and you can feel the enormity of the events that have taken place there. Loved it.

Carrie Wolovlek

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Fort Pulaski. This is a beautiful fort with a very rich and interesting history. We sat through a discussion about the reason for the fort's build, and then the battles the fort endured (against weather and man). The discussion was fantastic. My kids and I found Fort Pulaski to be fascinating. The staff is very knowledgeable and there is plenty to do. We stayed for half the day and wish we had set aside more time. We did not even make it out to the Beach nor did we have enough time to watch the video. We will definitely visit again the next time we make it to the area.

Dick Burgman

This is a park of the US park service so I was able to us my life time pass so this place didn't cost us anything. They have nice air conditioned restrooms and cool Information center. The have guided tours at 11:00 or you can self tour. Everything was very well keep up. Many cannons to see and they fire them on Saturday at 11, 1 and 3. They fire a cannon and a mortar. Trails to walk in the area and a lot to see at the fort. There is a moat around the fort. Enjoy

Jay Vizcarra

If you are in the area, this is definitely worth your while to check out this historic fort. Nestled around an area where birds seem to migrate, the fort is impressive with its moat and beautiful green grass. You will be able to see some damage on one end of the wall which resulted from the Civil War. Was fun and pleasant to walk around this fort.

Solomon M Smith Smith

Great historical site breath taking veiws of bull river

Pam Spencer

We got there just in time for the first tour. The history of the fort was very interesting. Our tour guide was wonderful, he answered our questions and also expanded on some other things that was related to the questions asked. We loved the idea that you could go back to see what you didn't see the first time. The receipt is good for 1week so you can go back as often as you like. It's a must see

Bobby Moss

So historically significant and amazing that is was built in the 1800's

Willis Lowrimoore

Love it makes feel like a kid ..all types of activities. ..bring food and have a blast ..explore.....

Jim Hornyak

Great history and displays! Very informative!

Paula Kirby

An amazing walk down and historical lane. This piece of history was accessible clean and well maintained. The staff was very friendly and helpful and it's also a dog friendly area.

John Edward Voigtlander O'Keefe

This amazing Fort was so well built and designed. The young woman National ParK Ranger guide was a wealth of information. I loved the history of this special place and the beauty.

BigRob Martin1

This place is awesome! Well staffed, great preservation and excellent piece of history. Great place to spend a day. Bring a lunch, nice and scenic picnic area.

Ben Dishman

Very interesting piece of our history and evidence of modern warfare development. Advise taking the guided tour.

Charles Williams

This is a wonderful historic fort with excellent interpretive signs and exhibits. The views from the top of the walls are spectacular. When I was a child the fort made Ripley's Believe it or Not for the largest fig tree in the world but it died a decade or so ago. It's well worth an afternoon visit.

David Turberville

Well keeped and a great part of history that has a good view. The light house is close by and even though you can only get to it by boat it is still interesting to see from the shore.

Manfred Mann

The fort has some great places to sit, with your beach chairs, and enjoy the Savannah River and the container ships that come and go.

Ashley Hietpas

Nature and history combined! Definitely worth the small detour outside of Savannah.

Travis Noote

This was an amazing fort, and I highly recommend this as a stop if this type of history interests you at all. I have visited many forts and fortifications, and this location is one of the best-preserved spots I've ever seen. The numerous displays and live demonstrations combine with the great physical presence of this structure to make for a wonderful learning experience, or just a pleasant sightseeing adventure. Highly recommended!

Darrin Pelham

We love going to Ft Pulaski for the history, the canon and musket demonstrations and the occasional reenactments they have. There is plenty of informational signs explaining each part, plenty of parking and lots to see.

Mountain Man

Lots of history. Friendly rangers. Great movie in a visitor center

Barbara Vonk

Nice but due to construction for upkeep it takes away from the scenery even though it is necessary.

bryan mehaffey

Really neat fort. Keep an eye out for all the fish and blue crabs in the moat. Lot's of rooms to explore. The battle damage side is a must see here. Walk around the outside of the fort to the backside.

S. G.

Interesting historical site largely preserved and with an informative visitor's center and surrounding pet-friendly trails

bls txi

This an informative, well done, very impressive fort. It's long history through the revolution, war of 1812, and civil war as well as its progressive development over that time is equally fascinating. The tour guides are knowledgeable, passionate, and incredibly helpful.

Sherri Pressley

Front gate easy to get in,attendant fabulously polite, informative and just very nice! The guided tour was equally informative and very educational. Lots of walking, nature view surrounding fort awesome. Just watch for fire ants!

Derrek Voelker

Very interesting, packed full of history and very neat for exploring at any age.

Cristal P

They were under construction but it's a great big fort to explore. My 2nd visit and I would gladly visit again.

Jason montgomery

Me and my family could not wait to come here we loved the tour and the; guide we went back the second day to watch the cannon firing that was great. All you have to do is pay once and the admission lasts all week. Next year when we visit Tybee this will be the first place we visit. Thank you to all of the rangers who run the place we appreciate your hospitality. Thank you from Knoxville,Ten.

tenn guy

Good progress since tornadoes and hurricane.

Daniel D

They are under construction. But still good monument. A little pricey

MICHAEL MCDANIEL

Good place to visit. Much history.

Nerva Cherestal

Very nicely preserved. Great family attraction. Go on Saturday Afternoon, as they shoot the canons at 1:00pm for the visitors.

Ben and Fam

Great place the Rangers were friendly a lot of trails

Omar Meer

Cool historical site. Check it out if you are in the area.

Chad Gregg

This was a real interesting place to see. Had a few nice trails to walk on. You could see the surrounding areas from the top of the fort. They were doing some renovations on part of it but not a huge portion.

Joe Whittington

Fantastic old fort. More significant in U.S. and military history than most people realize. When I was stationed at the Goast Guard base down the road. I would visit this place often. Well preserved and maintained. The grounds are well kept. Early in the morning and later in the evening, when there are no tourist, it takes on a very lonely and calm vibe. If you enjoy history, I recommend visiting this place.

David Beckom

I loved it. It is really fascinating to even visit. Great people. Anyone visiting savannah/Tybee should go here. A quick suggestion is to go when its warm but not hot. Bring a bottle of water or you could buy one. Also they have a great gift shop.

Mark Thompson

Was a great historic lesson. There are some great things there to see.

Jared Cotta

Really fun seeing this historic monument. The preservation of the fort is actually spectacular and gives visitors a meaningful enriching lesson into the past of our country. Get a tour with the rangers, we had Elizabeth and she was outstanding. She provided interesting little known facts that made the visit all the more intriguing. Very worth driving out to explore, wish we could have stayed longer but Hurricane Dorian forced the park to close a little early. Still an outstanding visit.

Brian Bays

If you love history... COME HERE!!! They did a spectacular job keeping this place in good order!! Love all the cannons and original wood work!!! Beautiful layout and so very appreciative of their love for local history! In love with this fort!

Danny Contreras

Took multiple friends and family here in my time living in savannah, incredible historical site, super clean and educational

Joshua Wensil

Outstanding! Will recommend to anyone who is in the area lots of information the lady in the medical room inside the fort was the nicest person we met answered all our questions and more! Two thumbs way up

Luna Bella

Really enjoyed the fort and the staff were extremely helpful and kind! I brought my service animal and they were exceptionally welcoming. There was so much history!

Mike Bolch

This place is fantastic to visit. The history is great and the fort itself has been restored and maintained well. The tour guide was very knowledgable.

Christyn West

Very nice day exploring the Fort. The cannon firing was really cool to see!

Don Temblor

Pre-civil war fort on the river entrance to Savannah. Rangers are helpful and informed and the cannon are varied and interesting. There could be a few more signs, but it was very interesting for an hours visit. Worth the admission price.

Jacob Ridge

Pretty cool. Had an amazing tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about the fort and went over a good bit of history of it.

sarah walter

Beautiful park! The park rangers are so friendly and welcoming. We brought our pup here and they were very sweet to her. We had a blast!

Rene' Paul Romagosa

The excellent visit to the past shows the vulnerability of forts. Most of the structure is intact allowing for great viewing. The personnel are great

Irene Bates

We spent 1.5 hours but could have spent more. Knowledgeable staff. Interesting time in history well explained.

Amber Hopkins

Amazing! A must see. Veterans bring your letter of disability it's free.

Quinn Nelson

Very cool civil war fort in pretty good condition. Just make sure you bring some good bug spray, the mosquitos are thick, but the gift shop does stock a limited amount for purchase as well. There was plenty of good signs there to help understand what you were seeing as well as helping to set the scene for the conflicts that it was apart of. Definitely worth the trip.

Jeremy Lanier

Very nice park. Nice walking paths. Friendly staff willing to answer questions.

Raymond Ojeda

Restoration is fabulous. Interesting to see and feel the history while you visit.

Yesenia Tamasa

need to provide transportation to the light house because it's way to hot some days and their is no actual trail, making it harder to walk there for kids and seniors.

Duane Swaving

I enjoyed going through this fort, that said I like going through all old forts. The design and build of this fort is very good and well thought out. It is very structurally stable, and even after all these years, it hasn't shifted at all. Quite the amazing feat; our engineers should make some notes ;)

Sharon Johnson

Great little piece of history. Perfect way to spend Independence Day.

esther stevens

Interesting for several reasons that are outside of picnics and water access. Robert E Lee helped designed it as his first commissioned project and then later was part of the cause the fort was surrendered years later by his poor advice. The future of warfare weapons was tested and lastly its importance to Savanna access ways.

Jason Polak

We got to explore the whole Fort. Great experience with lots of historical information. We even got to see them fire the cannons! God Bless America!! Remember the Fallen and the sacrifice of our Forefathers!

Marty Corley

Easily seen...great entry...small fee, usally summer..bride over water..fishing g on either side...great info center ...beautiful grounds ..next to Savannah River ...Coast Guard Station is there...Nice staff...big walls to walk on ... big cannons, nice for pictures... A history video at Info Center...groups welcome...picnics possible...lots of coastal birds around...A very nice well kept piece of Ga. History

Flathead Mike

This is a great place! I went there today with a group of 6. 14, 39. 45 and 65 years of age, and everyone absolutely loved it. Definitely take your time and explore all the little details.

Miklos Halmos

We briefly checked on this fort on a day when we had some time to burn. It's situated on a pretty island with some nice trails, but there isn't too much to the fort itself. It's well restored, but besides the historical value of the complex itself and the guns (cannons) there isn't very much of a museum piece to it. The bugs and heat can be a lot, but catching the cannon firing demonstration can make it worth the trip, especially for kids. There is plenty of parking with restrooms, and the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. If you've been to a fort, this is much like any other.

Larry Lottes

Great visit with just the right amount of interesting fort restoration.

Daniel Stovall

Staff were wonderful and full of knowledge. The kids loved exploring the grounds and if you come at the right times they fire a cannon!

Alan Holtgrewe

As forts go...pretty epic even if it didn't quite work as expected.

sidharth suresh

Nice stop over, if you want a piece of history. Well maintained with scenic views

Veronica S

Come one, come all! Pets welcome (on leash)

jake lane

Such a fantastic place to go! Research before hand so you can time it right to see the Cannons fired. And make sure to walk around the whole outside and see the massive amounts of cannon damage! I spent 4.5 hours there without doing any guides or events. Just exploring with my 2 friends from Australia!

Joan Lundquist

From a historical stand point it is very interesting. Nothing exciting but worth the trip in the area and like history

Neta Neta

This is a very beautiful place that has preserved the spirit of that time. And this is a must-see for everyone!

Ross Kennedy

If you take the time to drive down, don't miss the opening video or at least the chance to read a bit about the history. The fort itself is impressive but the story behind it fills in what otherwise could be a boring short experience. It you happen to be there during the cannon firing as we were that is especially exciting. We were a little surprised how many walls and places you could climb that you could actually fall off of with no guard rails. Some high enough that you could be seriously injured or die. Much of the fort if gated so that you can't fully see everything. But about two to three hours is all you really need to get the idea.

C D

Interesting fort with battle damage. On the top you can see the Savannah River :)

Maria Benitez Nunez

Three hours was a short time to feel the story. Observe the bullet impacts on the front wall. Very good state of conservation in construction. This place is an excellent must see. Thanks GA

bravoleader27

A very cool experience to walk through the old fort and learn of the history behind it. You can still see some of the artillery shells stuck in the outside walls. If you stop by it's worth it to take the guided tour and talk to the staff to learn all you can! 94% of the fort is original

Steve Zissou

Museum around tybee Island. Good place for pictures.

Nathaniel Luckhurst

Awesome fort, my favorite of all the ones I've seen.

Wade Wise

Nice historical spot. Great river view on trails. Paved for all access. Friendly staff

Lawrence Potts

What a fort should be. Awesome to see the history, the damage from 150 year's ago+. I wanted to swim the moat.

Carla Kennedy

I have been here three times. My son loved it. My daughter loves it. I love it. Love the path to the light house. Love the tunnels the history. I will be back soon. Beautiful.

Marie Smith

It's such a beautiful historic park. So glad we visited.

Maria Maria

We loved it. You can walk for awhile and it's neat with the underground places and moat. Kids loved it.

Mike Ace

Excellent historical location, a must see for history fans, also surrounding area has picnic areas and a hiking trail. Would have gotten 5 stars except there was no snack/coffee shop on site. Bring your snacks!!

Georgia Farmin'

Both History lovers & not will love visiting the fort and marvel at its awesomeness! I recommend going on a Saturday to see a cannon demonstration!

Peter Wood

Great place to visit and explore. I even learned something new. Good place for all ages, but there are stairs if you want to go on top of the fort.

Donald McCune

We love our National Park System. Fort Pulaski was great!

Stacy Ordway

Great place to take the family for fun and history in the same trip. We had a blast

Matias Cabeza

This place is the coolest! It is a civil war battlesite and still has damage from Union cannons. Employees at the park are super friendly and always willing to help. At $10 per Adult, it's a little steep, but the passes are week long and you will be happy to do it!

Jeff T

We did the scheduled guided tour. Learned some interesting Civil War facts. The fort is well preserved and we had a good time visiting.

Tiffany Smith

They were doing some preservation work on a few areas so we weren't able to see everything. Overall, the fort is well kept and fun to explore. The area around the fort is also beautiful. I would definitely recommend if you're into history or if you're looking for a family friendly activity in the area.

Heather Beddingfield

Loved it! Mostly intact fort the American Flag was too small!!!

Buddy Sharp

Few places that are in this good of condition for its age. Great history and friendly staff.

laurie wilburn

Great place for the entire family! Super friendly staff that really knows the history and is willing to answer your questions.

John May

Great historic military site. Conveniently located between Savannah and Tybee Island.

Marion Bailey

To hot in August but beautiful walkway

Shelly Haynes

The best park of visiting Tybee Island. My grandkids learned alot and really had a great time

S M

Amazing to view and you can pick figd to eat off tree

Brenda Harrington-Ireland

We had a fabulous guided tour with Ranger Jamie. He had so much great history to share about Fort Pulaski and how it came to be and what and how it had bern used and occupied over the last 150 yrs!

Trey Dawson

I Love history and Forts. I'm from NC and had Fort Macon. Then moved to SC and had Fort Sumter. Moving to GA made me happy knowing that there was a Fort close. It did not disappoint. Staff were great also

Colleen Beaudoin

We loved it! Make sure you do the Ranger tour. It's so informative.

Eric Hammond

Great place for the family. Tons of history right at got finger tips. You get the opportunity to recreate history with the amazing views as a backdrop

Shanon Canuto

Amazing to be able to see how things were 150 years ago. Loved learning the history of the Fort. Joel the tour guide was great!

Christina Smith

They are under some renovations but over all we had a great day there. Definitely worth a visit!

Vincent Wilhite

I love this place. It is very historic. It is a civil war fort that was outdated for its time. The admission is 15+ 10 dollars and under 15 is free. Active duty is 8 dollars. If you are going take the free guided tour it is well worth your time. Make sure to walk the 0.2 mile trail. It leads out to the rumbled of the north docks. This is not a all day affair. I spend 3 hours here and saw ever thing. They also have a reasonably priced gift shop.

Zack Pittman

Nice place. A lot of renovations going on.

Chief Reviews Everything

Awesome place, cool history. Love fire cannon display was neat!

Fariborz Zaer

Great place to imagine how they lived and fought back then.

Jebron Lames

Great place for a little history lesson. They fire two different cannons multiple times daily and the fort can be roamed freely or with a tour guide for no additional cost.

Dalton Andress

This was a very well kept facility! All of the staff seemed very knowledgeable and interacted with the kids very well. They allowed you to walk freely around the grounds and explore the different parts. They had a small shop inside the fort where you could purchase souvenirs and multiple places for good photo opportunities.

jack goodwin

I loved running around Fort Pulaski. My daughter loved running around gathering info for her Junior Park Ranger badge. The folks here are super friendly. Be sure to catch the cannon firing demonstration. Also be sure to hike the trails on this island. The whole place is just great for the whole family.

Minehwa C

We went on a wonderful ranger guided tour. The fort was preserved.

Jaime Stone

Ft. Pulaski was the surprise win on our trip to Savannah/Tybee! As a family of 4 (w/kids under 10yrs) I thought this would be a fun stop for Dad; but we ALL enjoyed the history of this place. If you have a 4th grader, they may have received a card from the national parks service that allows for free family entry into most national parks; FP accepted this so we paid no entry fee. However, after the enjoyable day we had I would have had no problem paying! They also have the junior ranger program (as other national parks do) where the kids get an age appropriate booklet of activities that once completed, return for a junior ranger badge. Clean, accessible restrooms, wide open spaces for the kids to run crazy, nice breeze keeps you comfortable. All of the employees we encountered were so incredible kind and helpful. After several hours touring the canons, recreated bunks and living quarters, gift shops and interactive history areas, we wandered down a pathway through palms and ended up on what felt like our own private beach on the river! Absolutely gorgeous! We sat and watched the cargo ships come in. When we visit Savannah again, we plan to return to FP.

Jessica Benz

Loved the historic feel. Very educational. The tour guide was very helpful and enjoyed.

Brian Phelps

We absolutely love Ft. Pulaski. Was finally able to hike the trail that takes you near Cockspur Lighthouse. Absolutely beautiful & so peaceful.

Gregory Kellis

Absolutely Spectacular for any history lovers out there.

Kathy Kroeger

Very interesting for all ages. More fun when cooler!

Kourtney Nunnery

Beautiful area and friendly staff. Surrounded by beautiful marshes. One of my favorite national parks!

David Carson

This place was fantastic. Lot of history to learn about

Dwayne Dixon

Everyone I meet at the park was happy to be at work. The presentations were very through and gave you information you would want to share with your friends. The park service made a dusty old fort into a historic destination.

greg smith

Such a great place! I definitely recommend going! Good place for kids as well.

Jennifer Gapuzan

We love Ft Pulaski. The live cannon firing is very interesting. I cant wait for the rest of the restoration work to be complete.

Margaret Webb

Wish it ended been a little cooler(haha)... It was 100 degrees... We enjoyed it so much. Will DEFINITELY come back when it's cooler!!!

steven lewis

Wow! Go! If you like history and antiques etc etc you will love this place I know I did. But be advised you are in the middle of nowhere and you are exposed to the elements, bring the supplies or it might be a short trip.

Nick Smith

About 30 minutes out of Savanna. If you have any interest in history this is well worth the drive. Massive park with full access to the fort. There are guided tours but you are also free to explore on your own. Be sure to explore the ammunition bunkers.

Eric Mills

Great history and great secret beach to walk around away from thr crowd

mydear chère

Amazing place to explore. The Fort isn't the only attraction. There's a couple of nice trails and another storage type of structure. Clean bathrooms & pleasant staff.

Jon Goldsberry

Very nice visit. Very educational. Well maintained. And, as the park staff tells everyone, STAY OFF THE WALL!!!!

Melissa Lanham

Very interesting place. If you're a history buff or interested military battles, this place is a must stop. You can get a real feel for how far they were from the forces on Tybee. I would recommend starting with the batteries on Tybee and then do the Fort to get a good perspective of the distance.

Shital Patel

Fun and educational place for families. Wish we went on Saturday to see the Canon fire. The staff does a great job to have kids earn a junior ranger badge by a work book .. which was very interactive and allowed them to learn the history.

shouldawoulda couldabeens

Great place for tourist looking for a historical place it's cool too walk the top it offers a great view and sometimes they do cannon fires and fire guns that of course have blanks they put on a great show and a lot too learn about the history between the battle between fort Pulaski and Tybee island highly recommend

jt roberts

There is alot of history packed in Fort Pulaski. Quality place and presentations. Take the time to sit through the video in the visitors center when you get here. Its 25 minutes of valuable information and will make your visit better. I'll be back for more.

Ryan Sarks

This is an awesome experience. Our boys loved it. Take the time to visit each room inside the fort and also walk the perimeter, outside the fort, to experience the damage from the cannon fight. The fort is very well kept and a great way to get the family involved in history. It is well worth the visit!

Contractor One

This place was awesome! If you like historical buildings or American history you will love this historical site. Talk about a blast from the past they're are giant 150 year old cannons, castle moats and a very nice gift shop for enthusiast who want to bring a little something home with them to remember your trip. I highly recommend this destination if you're in the area.

Shelley Brooksher

Amazing place to visit! Tons of history. Draw bridges and a moat, Canon's, a prison, so Much more! I will go back. Loved it!

Wes Widner

Always loved coming here as a kid. And now I live bringing my own kids here and telling them the rich history of this fort. The fort itself has enough to keep you occupied for about 2 hours. It's worth noting that there is little shade in the fort, just a single tree. Most of it is exposed. The park service does a great job of providing plenty of water stations but it's still worth packing your own water and sunscreen.

Dena Thompson

My all time favorite place to visit at tybee. I have been several times in my 30 years of life and every time I see something different or improvement. And go to the gift shop first if you have kids. Ask about the Jr ranger program and they can fill a little workbook out and get a badge for free. Really neat. You can do that at most any national monument!

Michael Pease

Definitely the neatest fort I have been to. It is still in great condition and it is neat to walk around

John Orem

Great piece of American history, the most impregnable brick fort built in the United States at the time. 18 years of construction on the fort and forced to surrender after on a 30 hour bombardment from a new type of cannon with range and accuracy not seen at all hat time.

Stephanie Rhees

Preserved well. Getting renovations while we were there.

Raleigh Mecklin

Loved exploring the fort and learning about its history! It was a great deal...i took 5 kids under the age of 15 and they were all free. My ticket only cost $10 and was good for 7 days. We highly recommend stopping here on your way to or from Tybee.

Charlie Roberts

Amazing National Park. Lots to do, well maintained, and nice beach that allows you to have your dogs at

Robyn

This was a really spectacular fort to visit. The history is almost tangible. One of the exterior walls still contains a projectile from the war. Exploring the fort inside and out was a great experience and I'd gladly return for missed photo opportunities. An extra gem - the jumping mullet in the moat.

Antionette Burnsed

Is a great place to go to it's just on days when they have a super high tide and the tide goes out when it's low tide it is hard to walk to the lighthouse

Erin Bacher

This was a great visit and our favorite fort that we've visited to date. The employee inside gave us a pamphlet and provided us with the important points of the fort/battle. Some of the exterior walls show where the fort was hit - there's still a cannonball sitting in one of the holes. There's also a moat, drawbridge, old cannons, etc. If you're interested, you can also watch a 15 minute video and/or go on a guided tour. I'd highly recommend visiting. The national park pass will get you in for free, if you have one.

Brenda Weese

Nice employees. Very educational. Offer a Ranger program for kids. $10 adults to get in kids free.

Kotie10

This place is PHENOMENAL. Even better when you hear thunder miles away.

Trip Kirk

Great movie and tour of the fort. Lots of interesting facts and a lot of history. Several mechanical Marvel's also.

Nada Raffaelli

Not to be missed if you are in the area. Canon firings on the weekend. Tours twice a day. Guides are very informative. Learned so much about American history.
