Great place for birding... Herons fishing are a common site... So are many different waterfowl and shorebirds... Smaller than Bombay hook which isn't too far...

EJ Chalabala

Awesome as always, just wished they let you ride bikes on most of the paths. It's not like the paths are packed with people.

Katie McLaughlin

Nature. That's why.

Dawn Smith

Love it ! Great place to walk and take in the spice of raw nature.

Jer Del

It has its charm. It's smaller than other parks in the state that are like this (and when compared to other refuges in particular) and has a handful of beautiful views, but leaves much to be desired and their trail maps are a bit out of date (i.e. pieces and extensions of a trail on the map that aren't there in the park) If you're in the area, absolutely stop in and take a walk through it... But I wouldn't drive more than an hour solely to experience this location.

Mike Clough

You should visit it, walk around and enjoy the quietness.

Scott Teegarden

Great place to hang quiet

Miranda Collins

Beautiful. Clean. Absolutely picturesque

pep cavaliere

If you work, or live with lots of people and you want to get away. Why go to Ocean City? Head into the bay and enjoy peace and quiet. Great for young kids who are curious about nature.

ken mullinix jr

Inexpensive, clean, friendly staff at boat - kayak launch. Good for a one day adventure. Plenty of picnic tables. Would recommend if on a budget.

Tara Miller

Very relaxing area. Lot of flying bugs, but kids love the beach.

Tilly Lo

The lady at the visitors center was very friendly and informative. She told me about the trails and informed which trails have ticks and mosquitos. I ended up hiking the Dike Trail to see the osprey nest. The trail was graveled and watch your steps because there were some dog poop on the trail. I was going to hike the trail with the boardwalk, but saw the tick warning sign and decided not to since I recent got Lyme disease. The view is amazing and peaceful. The other trails appear to be more woodlands. This refuge is dog friendly. My girls had fun. There is also an auto tour. It doesn't seem to come with audio though.

Kitten kit

Love the history and the wildlife... so many beautiful birds. Wish I had more time n a great pair of binoculars!

staarryeyed

Overall, great place for sightseeing all kinds of wildlife. Saw a little bit of everything on our trip. If you're into bird watching, blue heron, geese, cardinals, woodpeckers. There are other kinds of animals like beavers and foxes at certain times of the year. Also mexican families who don't speak a lick of english and will gladly walk up to where you are enjoying your peaceful day and talk loudly, fish illegally with their multitude of rods, dump their kids toys all over where you're walking and act completely disrespectful and force you to leave because they feel like they own the place. But so long as you come on a good day, it's a grand ole time.

Jim Wentworth

Awesome and serene

Great place for bird watching. Swamp area along Prime Hook Road is a great place to observe multiple different spices. You can do it even without leaving your car. Access is free. Several parking lots are available if you are interested in hiking or running.

Matthew Buckley

Fun place. Very beautiful

Aaron A. Wallace

Very nice walks in and around a tidal salt marsh, the half-mile boardwalk trail leads out over wetland with a long boardwalk that leads out into the marshland and past a revolutionary period cemetery.

Staci Dickerson

I adore this place!! Absolutely gorgeous views!

Erin Swiatowy

Bug attack! Our hike lasted 30 seconds!

Hollie Linville

It is great this time of year, breezy and few bugs.

Jenny Sinanan

Launched a canoe on its maiden voyage on September 6, 2014 under blue skies and a light breeze. The water was barely a foot deep, making paddling a bit of an art as we tried to avoid stirring up the thick dark sludge on the bottom. A vigilant osprey left her nest and circled in wide arcs overhead, warning us (or signaling her mate) to find a new route, which we certainly heeded! Despite the occasional whiff of decay coming from the murky waters, the time together for my sister (Maryland) and me (Seattle) was precious and memorable. A kind soul, Bob, from Newark, gave us a hand securing our canoe after his speed walk with hand weights; what a guy!

Matt Smith

Great birding opportunities and views!

Fenix Flame

Saw a pair of nesting eagles there that took my breath away. Worth the drive to visit any time of year.

Erle Burke

Nice visitor center. Lots of mosquitos

Plenty of trails, beautiful landscape, plenty of wildlife, kayak/canoe trail, hunting, fishing and more to do.

Gerald Stafford

Went to get national park pass and people were very helpful

Johnette Benson

Beautiful place to see.

Had a great time, wasn't aware that the waterways were very shallow, but wasnt a terrible hindrance to the kayak. Got to enjoy peace and quiet with the wife, in nature. What else can you ask for?!

Suzann Zdunowski

Great place to kayak

Madi Linthicum

Tons of natural trails amd lakes/ponds with long docks. Saw plenty of hunting signs. Great place for the dogs to stretch their legs!

Kelly Brochey

Beautiful well maintained refuge

Kate Carpenter

Love the peacefulness and birds

Christopher Donahue

Natural wildlife to watch all year round. all seasons every thing is out.

Letitia Schuman

Not kept up. Thorny vines taking over the boardwalk, for example. No paid staff there on last day of price promo. Felt sorry for the volunteer having to explain that repeatedly on the phone to callers, let alone to us.

Ryan Weaber

Nice trails and everything, except they seem to not care as much for the trails like they used to.

Marshall Busser

Walked all around and just Loved this area .

John Needles

Myriad of lighting moods and winged creatures abounded.

Pamela Fisher

Wonderful place for birdwatching! We had around 60 species. Plus there were Fowler's Toads everywhere. We had blooming Indian Pipes!

George Schuler

Very disappointed hardly any big birds, those that were there were far off. Scenery was very nice, but that was not what I went for. This is my second time there and it will be my last. Bombay Hook is about 15 mins from my house, and it has never disappointed me. If the eagles are scarce, there are always Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets or Snowy Egrets and other birds.

lisa lunny

Beautifully kept refuge with driving and walking trails. Informative visitor's center and gift shop. Bring your camera!

Brian Sabourin

Plenty of trails and nice views of the wetlands. Make sure you bring mosquito spray during the warmer months.

Ed Chamberlain

It is a wonderful place to take pictures and enjoy nature.

Melissa Williams

There really isn't anything there. The weeds are all grown up. The mosquitoes are terrible. Basically it is a dirt road with a circular turn around on a swamp. The flies and mosquitoes were insane. Someone had dumped the head and hooves of a wild pig there and flies were swarming everywhere. The brochure makes it look like a whole lot more than it is. Save yourself the trip.

John Gangone

Beautiful, peaceful place.

John Chaney

The drive down was pleasant. The route was well marked. This is a wildlife refuge so you will not find very many amenities. There is a clean portolet in the parking lot. There is parking to accommodate numerous vehicles.

DOUG ANANIA

Nice outdoor place to see

Anne Mytych

Great place to go birding, especially if you love shorebirds.

Nathan Custard

Joan Dotterer

Great place for nature lovers of every age, any time lof the year

Nature at its best.

Craig Drennan

Great trails!! Very well done boardwalk that is definitely worth the trip. The visitor center was closed, which was rather disappointing, but the rest of the visit was great. Bring deet.

Just_Me

Crabbing is nice

Michael Crockett

Go ahead and make it Delaware's National Park already.

Jeff Banks

Overall, our dining experience was good. We were greeted by a pleasant member of the staff and escorted to our table by a really nice young man. The gentleman who waited on us was pleasant as well. Fortunately we were only a table of 2 so we got right in, and I say fortunately because the place was packed. Items on the menu are not cheap, you're most likely not going to take young children here because of price and I didn't notice anything a child would eat on the menu.

Elizabeth Galloway

Beautiful. Walking paths. Water. Serene n quiet.

Renee Tedder

I think this was my favorite place to go out of our trip. Really unique. We saw a ton of wildlife and flowers. They have a nice native plant garden that labels the type of plants.

Brian Peasnall

Great place for observing would like. Great photo opportunities. Also a great place just to get away from it all.

Watch out for the green flies

CC Da'Man

This place is great, lots of walking trails and a driving tour. The beach on the south side is very nice.

yolanda alejandre

I love my wildlife refuges and this one has a visitor center that is open on weekends is A plus in my book. Super relaxing super quiet, nice trails and it's not in the new blue goose stamp book, but they have a stamp.

Not many places to drive to if you are handicapped and the mosquitoes were herendus.

Very beautiful nature park. Quiet and clean and nice flat trails.

michele Miller

Rick Bennett

Very nice sereen place for a walk.

Marie Hakala

I love this place. We saw peace, in the woods. There was no outside noise, just the sound of nature.

hilary stanhope

Lots of wildlife, especially waterfowl. In the spring the area is covered with snow geese. It can get buggy in the summer with green head flies and mosquitoes. The horseshoe crabs come ashore to lay eggs on the beach in June and if you see on flipped over upside down please just turn right side up. They have no ability to bite one claw you so there is no danger to you but if they have lost their tail they cannot right themselves.

Thomas Bermingham

Nice beach. Nice homes to rent.

Bill Gillaspie

Good place to fish, didn't catch anything

Pat Black

Beautiful, great for bird watching, gorgeous sunset

A M

Scott Jewell

Quite secluded with beautiful views n nice fishing areas

Jonathan Lathrop

No wildlife... But the quietest place I have been in a long time... Lovely trail and benches on a walkway over a nice pond. Very peaceful...

Janet Bouchard

Always enjoy visiting this place because of such varied wildlife and their natural habitat. Heard many birds singing and saw great blue herons standing at water's edge.

Liz Younger

It was not the best kayaking but if you like to wild life and bird watching it was phenominal.

Monica Hanna

I will return to hike the trails and to visit Fowler Beach. Mom and I visited the well equipped Ranger Station and got maps and info. This NWR was unknown to me and obviously a well-kept secret gem! We spent a lot of time driving the winding roads and on Route 1 that is the only way to reach the winding beach access roads. Protecting the acres of protected bay dunes and marshlands is obviously an important priority. So expect to park and walk to area close to waterways! The dunes are unharmed and I saw a snowy egret and some turtles and visitors crabbing off a bridge over a stream. I watch, study and maybe photograph Nature and wildlife! Though, this refuge is a resource for permitted hunters of waterfowl in season. I saw info and tags near the eastern entrance. I also noticed a trail head for The National Trail System Florida to Canada. Pack lunch this refuge is purely natural. No pizza or fries!

Randy And Amanda Gooner

Beautiful place. Gods country!!! Numerous types of wildlife of all species.

Laura Era

This is a wildlife refuge that 5 other artists and myself visit every year because of it's natural beauty. We rent a place for 2 weeks and go out everyday and paint the lovely vistas and beach and marsh scenes. And it is not too far from activities in Lewes and Milton, Delaware. The sunset cruises up the canals is a real treat, too.

Debra Powers

Beautiful place to go

Chad Hudson

A great place to visit the outdoors for all ages.

kirk morrissey

My happy place.

Steve Schwinn

Wonderful spot to preserve wildlife.

Tina Mooney

Beautiful place

William Billings

Walked on FOWLER beach. It was great. Why don't you come up with a plan that allows people to access all year?

arthur dodge

We did the trail along the water from the visitors center. It is about a mile roundtrip. Ery few birds this time year, but did hear peepers for the first time this year.

Tim Carpenter

The visitor center was closed by the time we got there. We wanted to do a walk toward evening. But we were not disappointed in all we did get to see at the refuge. From bright yellow warblers ducks to eagles in flight. Our eyes were filled with delight.

Susan Hanna

First time visiting and i loved what i saw. My husband and i took our puppy for a walk there today and we definitely be back when the kids are home. Cant wait to check out the other trails.

Adrienne Smith

We walked the boardwalk path and the other lookout path (which is a little longer and joins with the boardwalk) with a toddler in an umbrella stroller. These paths were very well maintained, but it probably wouldn't be the best idea in muddy weather. The lady at the visitor center was extremely kind and pulled out all sorts of things for our little guy to look at. That said, even with the (very lovely) walks, we were only there a little more than an hour, and older kids would probably be bored, as they don't have very new or unusual displays. If you're looking for nature walks, it is a great choice though.

John Gibson

Great place to enjoy the outdoors

Graciela Gonzales

Very nice walk. I love it!

Steven Burton

Calm and beautiful area

Christopher Younger

Birding was fantastic. Saw two bald eagles. Also went kayaking in turkle pond and at the visiting center. Kayaking was ok. The canoe trail was difficult to follow and we bottomed out a lot. We couldn't access the channels of turkle pond due to vegetation overgrowth. Kayaking did allow closer access to wildlife.

Zhanyu Li

This is a bird's paradise.

Daniel Scott

Going to Prime Hook is always a wonderful experience. It's free and there are plenty of trails to walk along the water. Depending on the time of year, you can see many birds like Osprey, Geese, Eagles, Herons, Ducks, Pelicans etc. It's very quiet and peaceful.

Erik Nilson
