In a single word; amazing! The dinosaur skeletons and mineral collection were easily the most interesting exhibits. Also the temporary gold display was astounding; imagine a 900+ gram "nugget"! Highly recommended, 10/10, will most definitely be viewed again!
Wonderful place! Hands down! When I visited this museum the first thing that came to my mind was “the night at the museum” movie. The experience was so exhilarating and there are different sections in museum which makes it a complete tour of history, galaxy and earth. I would love to ho again. For students the entry fees was only 6 dollars.
What a great place for older kids to explore
Haven't visited here since I was a kid and I'm now retired. Must say, it is very entertaining and informative. Great visit! Thanks.
I like it, there are many thing in here not only Dinosaur.
This is right opposite my school and my favorite place to hangout. A must visit place for all the history buffs. They also host guest lectures which discuss issues that you seldom get to learn about. The frequency of tours for the limited-access sections can be improved.
A fantastic natural museum. The Yale students interact with the children. Wonderful place.
Great place. Went when I was a kid, take my kids now. Little pricey for group if your the one paying...
An amazing collection! I have always loved this museum and now my kids do, too!
Yale... Considered one of the best universities in America. The Museum was like any other museum but owned by Yale. Of course this museum has different attributes than other museums. You can expect Dinosaurs, Ancient Egypt, Ancient animals, extinct animals, Earth Science/Cool rocks, and much more I can't recall. Not only is the museum the star of this review, the Yale campus is very beautiful and there are a lot of food locations around campus.
Exhibits are well done. It is a perfect size for kids
The place wasn't as big as I had hoped. Come visit if you are in the vicinity but don't drive out of the way for it.
Great museum, good size. Great place to take kids and parking isn't too bad.
Interesting and informative exhibits but relatively small in comparison to other similar museums. If you're nearby it's worth a visit.
Excellent little museum. Not a large place but very high quality exhibits. Best dinosaurs in Fairfield and Westchester Counties.
great museum for the whole family. I expected it to be small but was pleasantly surprised at the expanse. they have more than just dino exhibits which was awesome. we were able to comfortably spend two hours there. its nice that they have friendly, knowledgeable and friendly staff. we'll ne back for sure
A really cool museum when you like dinosaurs, rocks, animals and plants. The guides explain everything people want to know and they are kindly and patient with the kids and have activities for them. You need maybe 4 hours to visit all the place, depends of the stops you do.
A place with a good amount to see. Highlight is actually the weekend live insect display. Those volunteer young kids are amazing. Consider it’s in a small town in Yale, it’s pretty good although not cheap.
This place is awesome!!! There are so many cool things to look at and do!!! My favorite spot is the gem and crystal one, it is located on the third floor. The way the lighting and the black floors and ceiling are it makes a amazing atmosphere!! Also they have a reptile room for the kids!! Would return!
Very nice museum, my 6 year old enjoyed it immensely. Museum is not too big and not too small, perfect for an afternoon adventure.
Ancient Mesopotamia Speaks Highlights from the Yale Babylonian Collection April 6, 2019 – June 30, 2020 Made it more than worthwhile. Tour of it by Yale professor was the icing on the cuneiform tablet.
Great collection of dinosaurs/prehistoric animals! Much better than your expect from the size (though appropriate for yale)
Nice place to visit .. staff were very attentive, courteous and professional
Dinasaurs! I attended an event here which was different. I was advised this museum will close for renovations 2019-2020.
Very nice Museum. Love the dinosaur exhibits the most.. shame I visited on a day filled with many child exhibits as I couldn't get close to some exhibits because of it.
Not super big but makes for a great family trip!! All three kids loved to see all the different parts, there is something for everyone!
Very nice museum with many dinosaur exhibits
It is smaller than expected. Same displays. Only on was different. The kids really liked the rock/stones exhibit. It takes about an hour and a half to go through.
We went with my daughters school and they had so much fun!! Definitely a great way for children to learn. Each and every kid that went was very happy and excited to see everything! I personally loved seeing how the ants carry their food back and forth!
Great exhibits and helpful staff.
Great museum for all ages! Browsing through takes about 2 hours but if you want to dive deep and study their collection you could easily spend all day!
Lots to see here. Maybe would have been better to see it in more than one trip.
Great place for kids!
Great place, very informative displays, a little of everything, just the right size to typically see everything in a few hours.
Nice museum to spend an afternoon. Dino exhibits are the same as I remember them from 35+ years ago. There's a interesting rock & mineral exhibit & they are refreshing some of the dioramas.
Well organized museum in the heart of New Haven, attractions for all ages, 2 elevators for the 3 story building, wide coverage of historical material.
Very fun and informative. Great for taking the kids out for a couple hours. Veri interesting and designed for all ages.
A really awesome collection of fossils and minerals, all the birds and everything! I really recommend it!
Needs updating, but a lot of fun. Thee mineral and gem area on the top floor is the best.
Incredible quality, a wealth of exhibits, and lots of interactivity make it a great learning experience free kids and adults alike.
Awesome place to visit for adults as well as children. So much to see. Plan on spending several hours there!!
A great natural history museum. We took our four year old daughter who loved it, some items were over her head but there was plenty she really enjoyed. We were there on the weekend and there were Yale students doing small hands on projects for kids, they did a great job to help gear their exhibit toward my daughter and a couple other young kids there.
A good family Sunday. I thought it was smaller. But overall is a good museum specially for kids
A nice museum. Priced according to its size and scale. We had a nice time.
Great place for kids to explore. Animals range from fish, birds, rabbits, snakes, owl, lizards and turtles. Train that runs in huge loop near ceiling. Mini village for kids to check out with variety of activities.
Fairly small, but convenient. Beats driving to NYC.
Super cool museum and there’s his “discovery” area where they have some small live animals like ants, frogs, tarantulas, and you can even hold a walking stick!!
A little bit of everything: fossils, gemstones, local fauna, anthropology. Great afternoon visit.
Neat little museum. The mineral and fossil exhibits are really interesting, and the staff members are very friendly and knowledgeable
Great mineral collection and decent museum store.
Wonderful place to visit cant wait to go back!
This storied museum is compact, diverse, and surprisingly affordable. If you're a fossil fan, the Peabody should top your pilgrimage list, as it houses some of the earliest and most famous specimens from the era of the Bone Wars, not to mention the gargantuan and immaculate Age of Reptiles mural by Zallinger. Short tours are offered daily; ours was peppy and fun. There's also a kid-centric room focused on entomology (including an amazing colony of leaf-cutter ants), dioramas, and an impressive mineral showcase. But hurry on down, since the Peabody is closing this year for deep renovations, not to open again for several years!
The museum is awesome! Lots of neat exhibits starting back from the time of dinosaurs and through the evolution of mankind! My favorite part was the gemstone and mineral display!
Great musem of Natural History. A lot for a small venue. Saw special exhibit on Mesopotamia. Fantastic. I paid Senior citizen price but not sure of cost for a family with a couple of kids. It is closing down in 2020 for two years for renovations. Get there soon.
Excellent!! Climate change is cyclical. Core ice samples from Greenland, and artic show many such periods of cooling, warming, ice ages. It's not man made. Stop drinking the koolaid.
A great museum to visit right in CT.
Nice museum with 2 exhibits that really interested me paticularly: the Mesopotamian writing and the Egyptian collection upstairs. The collection of dynosaur skelletons is of exceptional quality. I also enjoyed the entomology wing with passionnate volunteers showing you around.
Coming from New York City I was afraid of being somewhat jaded. Quite the contrary. Felt it was a fresh well-designed beautiful museum including (when I was there) several interactive demonstrations and exhibits that enhanced the experience for visiting adults and children.
Great paleontology collection.
Super natural history museum - their gem and mineral room is gorgeous and their paleontological collection amazing. Just try to avoid school trips, they literally block regular visitors out of major areas in the galleries, which sucks
We love this museum and visit at least once a year. Amazing exhibits and lots for the kids to do and explore.
Great experience grandchildren really enjoyed a must see
Lots of exhibits with fossils and old Egyptian stuff on the first floor. 2nd floor is small but has a bunch of live animals and stuff. 3rd floor is big like the bottom one with minerals and meteorites. Pretty interesting
Amazing! I can't wait to go back! Only one tiny bathroom in the whole place.
Really cool little museum located in an old church. We went on a Sunday when they opened, so it wasn't crowded at all. Parking is across the street in front of the museum, and at least on Sunday, you didn't have to pay to park. My favorite exhibit was the rock and gemstone collection. It definitely has a little something for everybody!
A high-quality, extensive natural history museum. Taxidermy dioramas, giant skeletons, massive crystals and precious gems are on display year-round. Activities and workshops for kids are held. You can see what happens when lightning strikes sand in the desert, or what an Egyptian mummy looks like. The descriptions of the exhibits are extensive but accessible. Expect to spend at least 90 minutes here if you're just browsing, most of an afternoon if you're a very curious person. Admission was free for Yale students and military.
Excellent dinner served for or group dinner. Excellent experience, awesome museum
The place is great! The skeletons are awesome, as are the minerals! Theres always something new here to see, so a trip once a year is never boring.
This place always amazes my two homeschooled children. Never a dull moment. From the dinosaurs to the human evolution to the amazing gem collection. You wont be disappointed!
A walk back into the Victorian Era... I wished that lived closer... Installations of contemporary concepts as well! Visit whenever in town!
The Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History has many amazing items on display. There are huge dinosaur skeletons and fossils, stuffed animals and birds, beautiful dioramas and murals, mimerals and crystals and quartz rocks. Currently there is a small gold exhibition and a Mesopotamian exhibition with items from the museum's collection most of them pertaining to the history of writing and it's development of centuries of middle Eastern civilization. There is Hamumabri Code of Law stele which looks like an early version of the Matrix, cuneform rolls and scrolls and amulets. It is surprising how tiny the writing scripts are, a very small point size indeed.
A good museum. We toured in less than three hours. Kids enjoyed the dinosaur skeletons and the mummies.
Excellent museum. I take the kids here often. They have dinosaurs.
Great experience for young and old. My 7 yr. old grandson is a dinosaur guy. Beautiful exhibits. Wonderful hands on room for the kids, second floor.
Fascinating exhibits, particularly the fossils. My curious 6 year old cannot wait to go back!
Great for the kids...educational n fun
We love this place and visit a few times a year! Parking is a bit annoying but we manage. They have wheelchairs for our grandfather to join us too!
Great and amazing place for better understanding life on Earth
One of the best museums in the world. The dinosaur skeletons are amazing.
Nice museum, go check it out. Small parking lot across from museum.
I loved going to this museum, there was so much to see and learn. Admission prices were good and and the building was well kept. The gift shop was nice and the staff was very friendly. I would recommend this museum.
Nicely setup exhibits, good selections from the permian fish to human anthropology. Lots of great taxidermy and the geology area was quite good.
An amazing place with so much to see!
A MUST see for science buffs. We got there around 4 before closing on a Thursday and admission was free! Kids and parents would both equally enjoy the interactive pieces and the easy to understand descriptions. Cool seeing how far life has evolved and humbling to realize our small place in the history of Earth
Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History has a variety of skeletons, fossils, well-preserved taxidermy and awe inspiring gemstones with a few artifacts here and there. It is loads of fun and educational for those that take an interest in nature. It is a great place to visit for children and adults alike. Make sure to give yourself at least 3 hours for soaking up the sights, taking photos and visiting the gift shop! There is a ramp at the entrance and also an elevator for those in wheelchairs. Thursdays between 2pm and 5pm is pay as you please, but I feel that the experience is definitely worth paying full admission for! :)
Always love the amazing collection and exhibits but their Halloween party takes the cake! There are always other events for patrons of all ages as well as free guided tours and even fun art courses some times (paid though). Be sure to sign up for email notifications to be "in the know" for these offerings. Also, some days are free admission!
Great little museum. Looking forward to seeing the renovations......
Great collection! Amazing choices of exhibits
I have to say this is by far one my favorite museums! Great, friendly and welcoming staff and volunteers. The interactions were very informative by friendly staffers. The museum does not disappoint, there are 3 floors with lots of impressive exhibits including the following: dinosaurs, evolution, space/minerals, Native American life, ancient Egypt and so much more. There is also a fantastic Discovery Room which is lots of fun for the kids. I would recommend getting a family membership, it pays for itself in one visit and has so many perks. Make sure to visit the wonderful gift shop before you leave.
small museum, excellent collection of minerals; the kids discovery center was so-so. other than that, not worth the $13 admission. especially not worth it is the creepy dead person smell in the wing housing the dioramas and stuffed animals that have not been updated in ages, and the tiny rest rooms on the ground floor that are overflowing with pee on the floor. there are also no free, or heavily discounted year-round admission offers for residents of new haven. a lot of the residents surrounding the yale campus are minority, and don't appear to afford the means to get into this museum. if you have a tiny space to house a world class collection it's time to rethink your strategy, turn your museum into a boutique natural history museum of the bizarre instead. maybe instead of stuffed grizzy bears and polar bears, maybe something more exotic and unconventional.
I've been here 2 times with my husband and 4 kids. What a wonderful little museum! The staff is friendly and always willing to answer the 10 billion questions my children have about all the exhibits. We will most definitely be going back again.
Gems and dinosaurs were standouts. Very kid friendly...fun for whole family.
I work there it beautiful and the kids & family will love it Real educational.
This museum is amazing! I especially love the gems and the human evolution section. Some of the dioramas are showing their age, but it is full of great info and displays.
Lots of interesting things to see. The mineral room is definitely the coolest. Some exhibits have rather heavy reading. It is a bit outdated, but they're starting a $150 million remodeling. Overall a great museum.
Just a perfect place for 5 yr old. Their mineral connection is just the best I have seen.
Interesting and fun for all age group
This place has lots of exciting rocks. No, really, they do.
A little stuffy, the dinosaur section on the first floor hasn't been updated in 30+ years and it shows. The rocks and minerals on the top floor is by far the most impressive and modern exhibit.
There was a nice variety of natural history with dinosaurs, birds and rocks. Very affordable for museum admission. There were plenty of hands on exhibits. My daughter walked away with a free fossil and shark tooth. I highly recommend this for a great family day trip.
My grandson's first visit , we definitely will be returning. He really enjoyed the children's hands on room .
Amazing gems. Great and quaint museum.
Great museum! All exhibits were amazing! The stone collection is crazy cool. It was completely unexpected. The Egyptian exhibit was in depth and very educational. To see all the birds and animals was amazing. So many great things to see in this place!
An incredible place in every sense of the word.
So great day with my son's 2nd grade class!
This museum is wonderful!! There is plenty to see but not so much that would cause you to make a second trip. The only issue was parking. There is construction going on where it looks like the normal parking would be (I think it was the normal parking lot). For now 02/15/2019 you can park at 221 Whitney Ave. almost directly across from the Museum. The number on building is hard to see but it is mostly a cream color. Bring your parking ticket inside so they can validate it.
Amazing! So glad I went and I'm not even fond of museums!
Took the kids, they loved the fossils, live ants and all the great things they got to see.
Great place to take the kids to. Awesome learning experience.
Wonderful museum, dinosaurs, minerals, dioramas, exhibits. Covers all of natural and cultural history. Yale was a pioneer of paleontology.
I’ll give it 5. But 1 is fine unless it gets better the reason for 1 star was my field trip for my school my teacher wouldn’t let me take pictures unless we asked He wouldn’t let me use the phone on the wall and he made us look at exzibits on our own not with our friends i also got blame for touching the glass when I Dident I rather flee the country than come here One of my teachers said I learned it was a waste to bring you here and I agree One of the chaperones even bought ice cream for the Group of kids I wasn’t even with the shop and when I was with my stupid boring old teacher who made me follow him if I didn’t behave I didn’t PA because I feel like I was a little bit forced forced to do things I really didn’t like what I saw the most the stuff I didn’t like but I kind of think it was actually pretty cool little worn out not want to make this a longer piece out
I love this museum! It is very well organized and if you go on a day where there are not school trips, it’s really quiet and calm! The store has so many cute things (stuffed animals, mugs, souvenirs) I always want to buy them all.
We enjoyed the Peabody Museum. We love dinosaurs!
Surprisingly good natural history museum. Took a group of 16 yo students and pleased I did.
Really interesting museum. Very accessible. The gem and mineral rooms are great and the human archeology area fascinating.
I would like to start with few important things: 1. They have plenty of parking and it’s FREE even in downtown. 2. I went on Thursday and it’s open to public on that day. I’m not too sure if it’s free for rest of the days. 3. Friendly staff and museum is well-maintained. 4. Museum is spectacular! You can almost everything in the museum. Animals, Birds, Minerals, Human Species and many more.
Nice place for kids. A bit all over the place (what’s the point of the Egyptian part, so small it does not add value.) worth for the stones only (crazy quartz.) we all wait for the renovation: the dinosaur part looks so dusty. Good time and everybody is very friendly.
We took our 2 31/2 year old grandsons. They loved seeing the dinosaur bones and the discovery room was great for them. Looking forward to more visits as they get older and understands more of the history
I have always loved this place...
My daughter and nephew loved it. It seemed smaller than I remembered.
Really cute museum for families, couples, kids, etc. Very clean and easy to navigate with lots of things to see. Very interesting exhibits! Cheap too!!!! Definitely recommend for a small day trip!
Awesome interactive stuff raises this natural history museum well above the others. Just brought my sister and her kids from NY here (so they and we've been the Am Museum of Natural History a lot) and they were very impressed. On weekends there are always great young students there that do a great job engaging with and informing kids. This time kids could dig for shells and shark teeth in sand, hold and learn about awesome enormous bugs, and taste new tropical fruits. And that's in addition to the wonderful standing exhibits--the leafcutter ants, the enormous ancient sea tortoise, and much more.
Went for a night show for kids. Loved to see kids so exited and engaged.
They had so many cool exhibits at an affordable price and my son absolutely fell in love with it
Awesome! My 3,5 & 11 yr olds all lived going!!
Feels a little old and neglected for a Yale facility, however the actual exhibits we're quite nice. I hear they're getting a renovation in the next year or so, so hopefully this will go to a 4 or 5 star review soon. I will add if your kids (or you) love dinosaurs, this is an incredible place to go.
Truly beautiful. However, price is way too high. Especially considering the museum of natural history in NYC is cheaper... Just saying.
This is a well maintained museum. This place let's you imagine the gigantic beings ince existed on this planet. Very nice collection of ancient items, gems, rocks, birds, animals from all over the world. Nice museum to visit.
They sell fake citrine. It’s actually heat treated amethyst. Don’t waste money on their “citrine.” If you’re looking for real citrine go somewhere else not this place.
Cool place. Has a nice collection. Do go if you visit New Haven!
Highly interesting, small but HUGE in historical pieces/photos/discoveries.Whole tour can take like about 2 hours if you like to rush things like me lol. Will def come back!!! Had an awesome time there!!!
Having a membership makes it worth it. We go several times a year. A great place to go when the weather is not great. Parking is a little bit of a walk sometimes, but you're going to walk when inside anyway, so who cares? They have wonderful events and special exhibits as well. The staff and volunteers are always friendly and helpful.
I have loved this place since I was a kid. I still love it and go as an adult. Awesome, awesome.
Small but great. This place has some wonderful exhibits and is well thought out. They have a Discovery Room for kids (and adults). When we were there, they also had staff members stationed at many of the exhibits to provide info and answer questions which was a nice touch. The best part is that this museum is not so big that it's overwhelming. At a leisurely pace - and stopping to read most of the exhibits - you can walk through the whole thing within a few hours.
My favorite museum since I was 4. Come as soon as you can because major renovations are starting in July 2020 and the museum will have to close for a couple years to finish the reconstruction.
Engaging place for both kids and adults...loved one of the largest paint wall
Anyone with children or grandchildren must visit The Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University. Among the oldest, largest, and most prolific university natural history museums in the world. Founded by the philanthropist George Peabody in 1866.
Second visit here... just as good as the first. Amazing collection.
Fantastic place for all ages....I take my 10-yo son there every so often and we always have a good time. Yes, there are bigger and more diverse in NY and DC, but the Peabody stands up quite well when compared with them.
Go for the dinosaurs, duh, but the real treasure here is the gem gallery on the top floor. The experience is more like seeing holy objects, or magnificent sculptures in an art gallery. With the black floor and ceiling, and clever lighting on the minerals, time and space just seem to fall away, and your vision fills with colors cameras can't capture, and shapes humans can't make. I'm not into woo woo stuff; I don't like or believe in crystals. But their gem collection makes me feel incredible and unexpected emotions. Trust me and take the elevator straight to the top.
It was interesting, and lots of artifacts. I highly recommend it. You will enjoy the large exhibits and beautiful collections including animals, dinosaurs, birds, and a huge collection of jewels.
Great for kids and fun for the whole family. Much more to offer than I expected.
The gem and mineral collection is spectacular
One of the exhibits was closed due to a private showing; however, it was a nice place.
My son and grandson loved it
I love this museum, it's small but a nice way to spend a couple of hours. Some interactive exhibits, lots of dinosaur bones, a great place for kids!
Very nice museum (not too big)
Wonderful place to bring the kids but also fun date place. Always something new to see.
