It's a pretty area and some interesting history, especially if you are into art. It was quite calm and peaceful when I went, but the visitor center was closed at the time and there were few people around. You could spend an hour or two here. The pond was not too impressive, but again the history and old structures are interesting.
Weir Farm historical site is a fabulous place to visit. Both guides were friendly and super knowledgeable. Hidden gem in Wilton, CT.
Small and uncrowded when I was there. Worthwhile taking a house and studio tour with the knowledgable and enthusiastic docents. Easy, pleasant hikes through the woods. The gardens are small, pleasant, but not especially striking. They were lovely with the spring flowers when I was there. The natural scenery makes it worthwhile to travel here, though it is off the beaten track.
There must to learn here about a famous artist, which in turn will help in appreciating the art that was created from the special landscape at this place. The Park Service has done a great job to upgrade this site and include more of the buildings that form part of the history. Well worth a visit.
best thing I ever saw after I went there I told my friend's and all of them went.Every body should try it to
A nice quiet place to walk around.
Beautiful surroundings. Worth a visit.
Beautiful historic park. Amazing land scapingBeautiful for a walk and just relaxing :)
Nice artist colony type location but nothing to go out of your way for. A few trails that lead to a pond easy walk
Amazing. So much to do and see here, we spent hours and could come back easily. Great junior ranger program, nature programs and history. Friendly rangers too!
This is a beautiful place to visit. It is a historic site, one of only two National Park Service sites dedicated to an individual artist. The vintage buildings ( the homestead, the art studios and other assorted outbuildings) along with beautifully landscaped grounds and fields and woods, make this a wonderful place to relax, reflect and be inspired.
Great place to spend an afternoon. The rangers are fantastic and there are plenty of activities for all ages.
This is one of my favorite places to go and relax. If you like painting you can get free paints and access to drawing supplies. It really is a great experience for kids, especially the "scavenger hunt" and being able to use high quality paints and drawing supplies. Every time I have been there (3 times) the Park Rangers are super helpful and thoroughly knowledgeable. I have been to a few national parks, but this is one of my favorites. It's great all year, but I have been there twice in the fall and I think it's beautiful. If you like history, and know or want to learn about American impressionist painting, this is a great place. There are tours and workshops galore! That being said, this is also a great place to sit back relax and do nothing and just enjoy the land, the surroundings, and the experience.
Very Nicely Maintained. Well groomed Park.
The only place administrated by NPS in Fairfield County. Beautiful and serene, do stop by!
Great spot altogether. Nice respite from frkn city.
A beautiful place to visit all year round.
Beautiful setting with an interesting history. The trails are scenic and well maintained, a tribute to the staff and volunteers.
Surprisingly interesting. Make sure to take the tour of the house and the two studios.
Pristine farmstead with history.
Fascinating artist community
Great and peaceful place!
Only open from Wed through Sat Very nice
Nice place to walk around, relax and enjoy some trees.
Outstanding protected area fora variety of artistic outings such as painting, photography, and sketching.
Wonderful, beautiful place to visit. The only National Park dedicated to painting. The Ranger who greeted us at the visitors building was so happy and welcoming! She even posed in her official uniform and hat with us. There is a very informative film and tour as well as walking trails to a beautiful lake. A must visit!
This is a wonderful little hidden gem! This national park site commemorates American impressionist. There are house tours and painting supplies to sit outside and paint like the masters. The landscape is beautiful.
Great tour guide
Gorgeous April day! Perfect for playing bocce ball and wiffle ball with our grandsons. Beautiful grounds.
Informative
This is a beautiful site, with a short mile or so hike around a small pond available. They offer watercolor acitvities in the visitor center for those interested, and all around are budding artists taking advantage of the landscape -- since that's part of what this park does, helping develop emerging artists with a residence program. As you walk around the property, you'll find bison sillouettes with American Impressionist Julian Wier's (for whom the farm is name for) work, showing that exact spot your standing in, in his perspective. It's like an art time machine. It's definitely worth it to take a 5 minute visit to the visitor center to catch up on the history of this place.
Great place for you, and your family. Art supplies are available if you decide you want to sketch something from the garden.
A gem in the middle of CT. Nicely maintained and clean. Has a Park service office. Great for kids.
A beautiful place in the mountains.
Poorly put together tour
Pretty
Nice historic site sitting in the middle of Wilton! Great history - take a docent tour with the well trained rangers!
Beautiful farm and piece of art history. Makes total sense why one would just want to capture the world around them here and put it to canvas.
So excited and beautiful scenery
This place is beautiful. Completely understandable as to why someone would want to paint all day if they lived here.
Beautiful grounds
Low key.. Beautiful... Look into the past
So beautiful and peaceful
Great park
Great place to walk and hear the silence of nature.
Absolutely delightful guides
A wonderful tour of the studios by a knowledgeable docent and a great tour of the Weir Farms House by Doug! Very knowledgeable about the Weir Family and the house as well as its place in America's history.
It is a magical beautiful place. One of the best options for a day trip
Beautiful, historic site
Connecticut's only National Park. It is a quiet oasis with pastoral views and wooded trails. If you are an art lover you will love the impressionist history. It remains true to its artistic roots with a full time artist in residence. Take the tour the Park Service staff are well informed and are a pleasure to learn from.
Peaceful and scenic.
Our only National Park devoted to the arts. Weir Farm combines scenic beauty, a beautiful place to walk, a magnificent country house and two artist's studios where one can get a glimpse of the painter's and sculptor's process. And it's all free!
Amazing find with interesting activities: Friday evening summer yoga and assisted painting classes.
Wonderful place to visit. Beautiful, historic and interesting!
I enjoy the history of it
Hidden Gem in CT
It was a nice historical place and the lady who showed is the studios did her job excellently.
Beautiful morning walk out to the pond and back. Absolutely wonderful escape from the noise and distractions of the city.
What a magnificent Planet Earth and Weir Farm historic grounds are a real time testimony of its beauty. I am so totally lucky to have had the opportunity to explore these grounds. A must visit! Bring a picnic... #HistoricPlaces #Picknic #Nature #Trails #Hiking #Trekking #Gardens #Hiking
Property and facilities are beautifully kept, staff helpful and friendly
Some nice hiking/walking trails. The pond is a beautoful sight. We didn't explore much of the programs or park office, but there was a lot for art-centric people.
Tranquil and serene...love walking around this place.
Spring is almost here... looking good.
Great place to get out and stretch your legs. Beautiful place especially in the Spring and Fall time. Our kids loved this place and the openness of it. The visitor center is nice and quaint.
Beautiful country walks
Nature walk and gardens.
Quiet, well kept national park. The junior ranger program is the best we've ever done and that's having visited over 100 national parks. Worth the detour off the highway.
Gardens are gorgeous.. careful for the bees, I got stung!
Quaint hidden area, interesting
So much for children to do. Couldn't do it all on one visit. They lend you art supplies. It's FREE!
Beautiful rural art history landmark. Art studios that still host artists for 3 weeks at a time. Lovely grounds. Pleasant tour guides.
The site features beautiful grounds and a well marked/maintained trail around weir pond. Everything looked well kept and everyone we encountered was very friendly. The historic site borders two nature preserves that dramatically expand the available trail system. The area is beautiful and the trails are good for an easy weekend hike, but could stand to have some trail maintenance and invasive plant removal work done.
Free and interesting with a friendly and knowledgeable staff.
A large, sprawling farm where a painter enjoyed his summer months. This national park is invested in it's artistic roots, and offers opportunities for guests to learn and experiment with paints, drawing, etc. We only had enough time for a short stay, as we were traveling that day. But we made time to stop and stroll the grounds, visit some of the artist's more famous painting locations, and take the lake trail. Weather was going to limit our visiting time, and JUST as we were preparing to wrap up our visit, the heavy rain drops started to fall. We quickly piled into our car and continued on our drive home. But if I'm in the area again, I'd like to take a painting class here!
One of my favorite places to visit in the summer and spring
I really loved this NHS. All of the staff including volunteers, docents and NPS employees were friendly and knowledgable. I love history, nature and learning, so this was a great place to go for me. The history of Weir, Young and the other artists is a great story. The grounds are beautiful, the buildings retain their 1890s to early 1900s charm and the exhibits informative. I saw several families having a good time playing an I Spy type game while visiting, finding items from a list. A trip to the pond is worth the short walk, you can see fish if you look hard. It is a bit off the beaten path but worth the drive.
Lots of fun trails
So beautiful and peaceful! I can see why do many artists would want to paint there. My only complaint is that the website wasn't clear on the days they would be closed. We went and the visitors center was closed even after checking the …
What's to say that wasn't said before it's a beautiful spot manicured comfortable inviting with some privacy and some company gorgeous New England surroundings a pleasure indeed super Park personnel
Very neat experience! I have recently made it a goal to visit numerous national parks and sites! This one was unique being the home of Weir an American impressionist painter! They had free art supplies to borrow and use during your stay. There were tours of the home and art studios you could sign up for! There is also a pond to walk around (very quick walk) and to sit and create art! I had a great time with an old friend!
This was my first visit to the Weir Farm. I highly recommend taking your children, pets or artistic abilities to this location. It has it all!
BEST PLACE EVER!!!!
Beautifully views and nice staff and rangers. Perfect for kids
Beautiful, manageable and such a well kept place. So peaceful, great trails and free painting materials if you would like to try your hand at capturing the beautiful nature around you.
Beautiful grounds, especially the landscaping and stone walls. It's so peaceful to walk around and see everyone painting. There's a nice, easy hiking trail that circles the Weir pond. The Farm also has two preserves beside it which offer even more hiking opportunities. Every trail I've hiked has been beautiful. Be aware that some of the preserve trails could use some maintenance, but that's no fault of the Farm itself - their grounds are very well maintained. No parking fee and great scenery will keep me coming back.
Beautiful and easy hike.
This is the most interesting National Historic Site that I have visited and I would recommend that you go on an adventure to visit this wonderful place. They have an extensive Jr. Ranger program that child enjoy and for adults there are many interesting exhibits, great tour of the Weir House, and hiking trails. If you have a camera or are an artist plan on spending a lot of time capturing the beauty of this site.
Very interesting history. Grounds are beautiful to walk.
Cute farm, with well maintained grounds and a short trail to the Weir pond. Good for a casual stroll.
(Translated by Google) Good place (Original) Buen lugar
Gorgeous and definitely worth visiting several times during the year.
Que sitio increíble.
Lovely spot in Connecticut
A great place with wonderful staff and history.
Nice grounds!
Good
This park was a wonderful place to wander, relax and enjoy. I only wish I had more time so that I could have taken advantage of the water colors they offer on premises. A hope to get back there soon.
Very interesting, educational and well preserved
