REVIEWS OF Pikes Peak - America's Mountain IN Colorado

Had a great drive up to the Peak. It was partly sunny going up. Storm moved in after we got to the top. Very neat to see the fog roll in and the ice coming down. View was pretty while it lasted. Once down a mile or so weather cleared and the view was beautiful. Such a neat experience to see the weather changes to this beautiful area. Our family had a great time. Thanks!

Tim

Just being up that high and being able to see so far was amazing. God's creation really is beautiful!! I like bouldering so I took a little hike down the east side to have some fun. I left a little rock totem as a memorial of our trip up there. If you're not used to the altitude, take your time coming back up. Take water with you if you hike around. You'll need it. You can meet some real nice people up there from all over the map.

Brad Mateer

The park did not open until 9 we found out it changes in October, the drive was winding but manageable. You shuttle up from mile 13 or 16. The views are spectacular. However on the top was major construction of a new building, took away from the experience, but still worth the time.

Greg C

Beautiful place and awesome drive. They will close the drive at certain mile markers if the winds get to high. This is for your safety because the winds can really get to blowing. If they are closed, it is still well worth the money to go up partially. The views even at just a few thousand above Colorado are amazing! Bring a camera and your family and make some memories! Also bring a jacket! Check the weather forecast for clouds, you want to go when there are no low clouds. Also if you search for the temperature at the peak it will give you an idea of how cold it is up there along with how fast the winds are blowing.

Charles Sonnemann

A lot of construction projects going on. Very limited parking at the top. They are cutting off most traffic at mile marker 15, then a shuttle to the top. By next summer they say the train and a new visitor's center should all be up and running. The drive up and back is white knuckle but lots of fun. Bucket list if you love driving.

Megan Brueck

Amazing views. We went during the week so it wasn't extremely busy. Also, for those afraid of heights - don't look down during the drive. For those who tend to bump/jump the curbs - be warned that for most of the drive there is nothing stopping you from going off the edge and you should have a better driver take you there. Also, they are in the middle of constructing a new gift shop and you have to be shuttled the last few miles to the top. The new gift shop is scheduled to be open sometime next year.

Todd Shearrer

I love Pikes Peak! My wife and I drive to the top. The drive is beautiful! Lots of places to stop and picnic or hike on the way. Lots and lots and lots of photo opportunities. We went on a day where it started snowing and slightly hailing at the top. Once at the top the temperature was only 12 degrees as opposed to about 50 at the bottom. Be prepared for cold on top! Pick a clear day because the view from the top is like no other.

Muneeb Ahmad

$50 entrance for cars. Otherwise $15 per person. You can drive up to the 7, 13 or 16 mile marker and then take shuttle to the top. You are not allowed to drive all the way to the top. Beautiful views.

David D Allen III

Absolutely stunning. Worth the entrance fee. Remember to fill up your gas tank around CO Springs before your head up the mountain.

Emily Walker

Second time to the summit, first time we took the railway and when. We arrived there was a blizzard at the top in the middle of June, couldn't see more than 5 feet. This time around we could officially say we saw and have been on the summit. Take a jacket with you or a sweatshirt, it is colder due to the altitude. And stay hydrated. Beautiful view up top. We got stuck in a long line to take the shuttle down to mile 16. Recommend mile 13 or 7, the lines at the top are shorter for the shuttles. Also, when driving down SHIFT GEARS. The rangers do a brake check and will make you pull over if your brakes are hazardous for brake fading. If you ride your brakes all the way down, you will probably need to pay to replace them, they will be ruined. We saw numerous cars get pulled over because of that.

Randy Lorensen

14,000 feet & the but to go with it. Worth seeing. Elevation is no joke. Ride up is interesting. Guard rails would be nice but I guess that's not an option.

David Crockett, Sr.

Absolutely breathtaking experience. The absence of vegitation at the top makes me think of the moon's surface, and allows for an unrestricted 360° view as far as the eye can see. Oh- and regardless of the weather at the bottom of the mountain, you had better wear pants and bring a good jacket!

Keara McIver

I've been to colorado multiple times but never pikes peak. I was so glad I got to see it this trip. The drive to the top is absolutely beautiful. We saw some wildlife and got to stop at some lookout points. Currently they are working on the train so we decided to drive up and take the shuttle the rest of the way. Not too far past the entrance is a cute little gift shop the man inside was very nice and helpful. Once we got as far up as we could we got out and stretched our legs . we were lucky enough to see 3 big horn walking around. We took the shuttle to the very top. The driver was very friendly and gave us some information about the marmots and different things we could see from the top. The gift shop and lookout point at the top was very busy and also had a cafe. All in all it was a beautiful and fun little day trip.

LauraLee Vande Werken

The views from high up in God's mountains in Colorado are awesome and magnificent in scope. It was a little scary driving on curvy mountain roads with steep drop offs and in some places no guard rails. We know Jesus was watching over us and we wouldn't have missed this experience for the world. We could only go 16 miles due to snow higher up and had to rest our brakes at the point when you go back because they were overheating. We made it down safely.

jerrod hayes

Make sure you get there early as there was a 30-45 minute line when we went. Also due to construction at the summit, you can't go past mile 16. But they offer free shuttle up and down. Go early in the morning to get the best weather.

Johnson Wu

Pikes Peak! Friend of ours lives here in Colorado Springs, they suggested us must come visit this site. We didn't have much time when we arrived here, which was 5 pm and the park start closing down at 6 pm, so we drove straight up to the Peak and enjoyed the pretty view from there.

Tyler H

The views are amazing. I've been there twice in my lifetime. This time going the summit was under construction so we couldn't visit the top without a shuttle ride. Overall it was a very memorable experience

Luke Ahn

Had a much better experience than expected. Ensure to stop by Devil’s Playground to climb and take pictures. The views were absolutely amazing. While at the summit, there’s some great photo ops. Not a bad idea to take the shuttle if you’re somewhat timid to drive. Highly recommend!!

Alicia T

The drive was breathtaking. The top is under construction and really dirty. I suggest going next year when it is finished!

Tanya Leddy

Must see! Beautiful views from top. Be sure to allow enough time to stop at the different scenic view areas along the way up too.

Shawn Robins

Amazing place to be really high on a mountain. Over 14k feet is wired when you’re used to sea level. Must do when in Colorado.

austin waskey

Wait until the new visitor center is open (in 2020?). Right now the summit is full of construction, so visitors are packed into a small space. It's not possible to escape the diesel fumes unless the visitor area happens to be upwind. I'm pretty shocked that they charge full price at this time.

Ashley Diener

I loved this experience! We bought the tickets online ahead of time. No issues. We were able to drive to Mile 16. From there, the shuttle took us to the top. It was a once in a lifetime experience! On the way down, we stopped at the halfway picnic area and grilled and set up the hammock. Wonderful day. I highly recommend!

Paige Tello

Very amazing scene on the ascent up the mountain and gazing down from the top. As someone who lives in an area that is generally flat, the large boulders and vast expanse of mountains visible from the top of Pikes Peak were breathtaking. Very good opportunities for photos. Surprisingly wildlife such as goats and marmots can be spotted near that top which was a real treat! Nice gift shop on top with lots of souvineers for kids as well as adults. The donuts in the shop were worth the journey alone!!

Pratima Nayak

Words cannot describe the magnificence of this place. You get to be ABOVE the clouds. Truly amazing

Jin Hill

One of my favorite places! Absolutely beautiful and a nice escape from the dreadful city life.

Kristin Ooten

Gut-wrenching drive to the top but totally worth it! There is a reasonable fee to enter and multiple pull-offs on the way up to stop and take in the views. Bring warm clothes no matter how warm it is below.

Tiffany Friend

Pike's Peak is a wonderful place! You might need a jacket as the temperature can get below 50 degrees even in summer. Also, the drive up can be somewhat hair-raising. It's a good idea to stop and let one of the experienced shuttle drivers take you the rest of the way!

Rachel Walter

Amazing views. Due to construction until Sept 2020, they are shuttling you up from 7, 13, or 16 mile marker unless you have a handicapped sticker, children needing carseats, or dogs with you. If you drive up, you are limited to 30 minutes at top. Recommend to use the bathrooms at the halfway picnic area; even on a weekday, the ones at visitor center and parking areas had lines.

Sue Woodard

They lie to you at entrance and tell you for $40 per car that you can only go to mile 11, then ride a bus up to summit. We told them we had 2 pets, they said sorry you can't take them on shuttle bus. We were turned around at mile 11. On the way back down, those cars and trucks with green window tickets were going to top. There were many of them. We had purple. Don't waste your money! Maybe you have to pay ol man gate keeper extra....sad

Grant Dorman

Road conditions were great. Such a beautiful day. Wasn't too windy at the top. We were in Jean's and a shortsleve shirt. They're doing construction at the summit right now so it's a little crowded but look forward to the new summit house. The donuts were delicious. The international hill climb race event was going on this weekend as well. We were there the day before the race and saw some pretty sweet cars along the side of the road.

David Bourke

I would rate Pikes Peak 5 stars, but because of all the construction going on at the top now (9/3/16) I give it 3 stars. Parking is very restricted until it's completed. Awesome views! Bring your own food and drinks, the Grill there is very expensive and the food sucks.

Dennis Barnard

Doing construction there and things are changing now to expand things. In the past really enjoyed the drive up and have taken cog train before which is very good just dress warm for the top. They are redoing the tracks and we were told getting new equip. For next year to reopen the train

Brandi Cook

The drive up and down the mountain was so beautiful! The shop at the top was nice and the donuts were good. It cannot be replicated at lower elevations. If you're in the area, this is a must see!

Wendy Norman

Great to see beautiful views. Our van driver driving down was very informative and kind. He made the drive interesting and took our focus off the elevation difference and on his information about Pikes Peak.

Ivette Powers

Beautiful and breathe taking. I do recommend to bringing some blanket or a jacket since it gets cold cold up there. Also enjoy the donut and save one to eat when you are all the way down. The donut changes in size. It’s amazing.

Sarah Nelson

The drive up is always neat...lots of great places to stop for the perfect picture. When you get to the top you are only allowed 30 minutes to help with the flow of traffic. However....even with that limit the place is very VERY congested inside. The lines for food and gifts are not obvious and people get pretty snippy if you even appear to be cutting in line. I would recommend roped off sections to help. But the reason you go up is for the view (and ofcourse a donut) which does not disappoint.

Kelly Sloat

There is a new building going up on the summit. So for now, shuttle buses take you to the top for FREE! It does still cost to enter the park, however. Doughnuts were excellent as they have always been!

Cynthia Homstad

Amazing views. Everyone should make the trips at least once. Dont forget your donuts at the summit

Janet Freer

The view amazingly zen. The staff helpful, friendly. Loved it, especially loved the big foot sign.

coni erickson

Beautiful! We drove part of the way and then took the free shuttle. It was very nice to take the shuttle but it was disappointing because they didn't stop to let us out at the different view points so we missed some of the sights. The drivers were very nice and had a lot of good details on Pike's Peak! Heads up, the visitor center at the Peak is very crowded with people!!

Michael Merritt-Heath

The freedom in where you're able to walk frees your mind after a driving summit. Would go again in a better equipped car for sure

Monty Caraballo

Very cold at the summit. Great donuts to warm you up. It cost $$ to get in the park

Sarah Wockenfuss

Pikes Peak is an amazing sight to see! I highly recommend! The road up the mountain is beautiful and the summit is stunning. We drove to the second shuttle stop, I believe mile 16, and then took the shuttle to the top. There was construction going on when we went, so the summit was a bit messy, but the views when you hiked out to the edge of the mountain we’re amazing. When you go to the top you have to try the donuts in the gift shop! They lived up to the hype!

Daniel Wood

Had really great views and a couple of really good drivers who shuttled us up and down the mountain. This was the highest point I've ever been, so it was really cool. The only down side (aside from all the construction) was the visitor center at the top. It was very dirty and badly kept up- this made out our experience a lot less enjoyable. As I mentioned earlier, there was a lot of construction and I heard that it was for a new train station and a new visitor's center, so here's hoping that that will change other's perspectives. Otherwise the views and shuttle drivers were great.

Dee M

Just do it!!!! It was so beautiful. I have a million pictures from the drive up as well as from the top. My favorite part of the Colorado trip for sure.

mar stutz

Wow! What an amazing trip. If you have a child in a car seat you drive up to the summit yourself. If not, there are stop off parking lots for you to take the shuttle. We drove to the top and it was breathtaking! Not for the faint of heart or those afraid of heights. Plan on a 3 hour trip from the base to the top and back again. Make sure you have a full tank of gas. Lots of construction at the top, but I'm sure it will be outstanding when it's finished. The donuts are really worth the hype!

Matthew Leighton

Pikes Peak is amazing. The views were awe inspiring. We drove up 13 miles. The roads were well maintained. At mile 13, we had to take a shuttle the rest of the way due to construction. The driver was careful and polite. The construction only detracted from the ambiance a little. The gift shops were well stocked with a great selection of merchandise and the staff was helpful and full of smiles. Will definitely return.

Anthony Case

The drive up is incredible to this east coast resident. The road is terribly fun and it feels like you are driving in the sky at points. Go either very early in the day or very late to get more of the road to yourself and a better shot at driving to the summit.

Greg Wutzke

Breathtaking views of an amazing part of the country. The road up was very good considering the challenge of building one up the side of a mountain. We were able to drive all the way up without a shuttle, I felt like I won a championship making it to the top. But the dizzy factor was no joke, I had to sit still in the truck with my eyes closed for 1/2 hour before driving back down. I now recommend a picnic at the half way up stop to adjust. So glad I did this - all said.

R377

This is truly “America’s Mountain.” The scenic drive is full of grand vistas and unbelievable landscapes that stretch for 50 miles! The lower area is beautiful and green, while the upper altitude past the tree line looks quite similar to the surface of Mars. This 19 mile drive takes you straight to the summit of the peak! Wildlife is everywhere you look, along the way. Beware; the mountain is tall (14k feet) and vast. Come prepared for thinner air. Take it easy, if you’re not used to it. The gift shop is being replaced/remodeled but is still a great place to visit. Take lots of pics; it’s so worth the time and effort to get there! You won’t be disappointed!

Rafael Flores

Awesome experience. We could have used a little more explanation at the entrance, but it wasn't hard to figure out as we drove up. Currently the summit has limited parking due to a construction project. Shuttles do take you from the parking spots at lower elevations to the peak. We were given 3 options to park at the 7-mile area, 13-mile area or 16-mile area.

lk kim

Pikes peak deive was very exciting drive up to 14.114 feet. Weather was nice on this day I drove. It was definitely a breath taking views. At the top of the Pikes peak there's a construction going on so it was pretty messy. The welcome center was really old and the food prices n drinks are marked up just like when you go to Disney world prices. Example, hamburger was $7. For those who don't want to drive up to top of the Pikes peak, they offer shuttles at two places. One at 13 miles mark n second one at 16 miles. Total mileage to top is 19 miles. Make sure your car has manual transmission options or low gear when coming back down. They also recommend that you turn off AC in your car.

Harish Adhikesavan

The best mountain drive in the country. Amazing views of the rockies. The donut at the peak is hyped. I would pass on it. Lot of construction right now. Excited to see how it is going to turned out with a restaurant up top.

Naveen Reddy

I don’t think it’s possible to describe this experience in a review. Fantastic views, just wow. The drive was scary considering the construction, but that’s the beauty of driving up to this place. No wonder it’s called America’s mountain. We were touching the clouds. It’s very cold out there, don’t forget to take your sweaters and turn off AC in your car while driving up.

Larry Smith

We were there in late June 2019. We went to the last parking lot and took the required shuttle up. Glad I can say I have been there, but if you are willing to hike there are a lot of national and state parks that have as good or better views. My wife and I were both lite headed at the top. Drink plenty of water. We entered the toll area around 10:00. It's Avery busy place.

Ralf Wilkowski

Sadly overrun and over regulated, it still presents a high point (literally and proverbial) on any trip to Colorado. To me, it had been a lifetime coming and it was worth the wait. The views are spectacular and the drive is fun (on a motorcycle). If you are afraid of heights, the top roads are sketchy. If you get away from the crowds by hiking a bit, you'll get great pictures.

DeVon Abbas

Beautiful Drive! Due to construction, they are running 15 passenger van shuttles up to the top. There are a couple of different parking lots and shuttle stops on the way up. Because my husband is handicapped, we were able to drive our car all the way to the top. It was sunny our whole drive up. Once we were parked and got out to look around. Clouds covered the mountain and we were not able to see a thing. There is a 30 minute parking limit if you drove up your own vehicle, so as we left, it was still cloud covered. Construction at the top is a mess and definately takes a little bit of the beauty away, but still worth it. We were there at a busy time. Gift shop was swamped with people. On our way back to our car, we noticed the line for the shuttle Van's was super long. On the way down, we soon drove out of the clouds and the views were spectacular! There is a stop on the way down where Rangers check your brake temperature. If needing to cool brakes for a bit, there is plenty of parking and a gift shop with restrooms while you wait. We plan to return when construction is over to see all of the improvements. Highly recommend!!!

Justin Zabor

Amazing drive up the mountain, unfortunately due to the construction of the new summit house we had to stop at mile 16 and take a shuttle to the top...but still breathtaking. Be sure to take your time, enjoy the scenery and on the decent use your lowest gear...not your brakes to control your speed!!

Max Flaskamp

The views from the top of this mountain are absolutely breathtaking. Partially because of the altitude

Chris Tina

Great experience. The drive is pretty scary but the view is so pretty that you kind of forget how terrifying the drive is. They are building a new facility at the top so right now you can't drive all the way up. You have to stop at a certain point (unless you have children in car seats) and take a shuttle to the top. At the top there's a little facility with great hot cocoa and coffee and donuts. They also offer other food but we didn't try any of it. There are also souvenirs and gifts to purchase and restrooms. The donuts are great and so is the cocoa. The view is fantastic. Definitely a must for anyone living in or visiting Colorado.

PRUTHVI SALVI

Pike's peak. Best views ever. Loved the place. You can drive till top or can take shuttle at 3 different point. 1) 7 Mile 2) 13 mile 3) 16 miles. If you are taking shuttle service . Please remember which location you have taken shuttle service. Because you have come down. To same location. The more you go higher more you will enjoy the drive. At top it is fun. Currently train is under reconstruction.

Jason Haines

Unreal experience. You are truly sitting on top of the world. Take the advice and get yourself adjusted to altitude before trying. Most in our party felt light headed once reaching the summit. The donuts at the top are a nice little treat. Plan at least 2-3 hours to do the full trek with occasional stops. Well worth it though. The views are once in a lifetime. Pi

R

It was such a beautiful (but super windy) view from the top...too bad the construction kinda takes away from that but I'm sure once it is finished it will look way better. The shuttle drivers were very nice!

Barb Bailey

The views are incredible! You can see the Continental Divide to the West and all the way to Kansas out East! A must do adventure!

al ebke

We drove the pikes peak highway it was simply breathtaking. Don't go if you're afraid of two Lane highways and no guardrails though. My wife was not as impressed as I was. I would be especially cautious of you have an older vehicle or weren't accustomed to mountain driving using lower gears and the driver probably won't enjoy the scenery as much as the passengers it requires your full attention.

Renu Abraham

Great views.. whole family enjoyed it.. drove all the way up to the top. They are still working on updating. We can wait to come back when they are done with remodeling. It was cooler and light windy on the mountain. It was about 45 degrees.

Dean Morrell

A singular experience. Recommended. Very busy 7/5 each year. Restrooms, gift shop, and restaurant at summit. New summit store is under construction 2019. This means most vehicles will be required to park part way up and take a shuttle much of the way. Those with mobility devices were permitted today. Tickets were $15 for adults and $5 for those under 16.

SESHADRI SUBBANNA

Always a great place to visit. Breathtaking views. Shuttles reduce the drive. Cog railway not working but the drive has great views to stop and picnic.

Xiomara Ortiz

Spectacular. Astonishing. I have no word to describe this experience. THIS IS A MUST SEE in Colorado, period. Only be aware, if you suffer from respiratory or cardiac conditions see your doc first it's really elevated so be precautions. Drink plenty of water and take your time going up. There are multiple (a lot) of stops you can make to take pictures and will help you to cope with heights. Go to the website for more details. Really enjoy the view.

Trish Delaney

A LOT of construction at the Summit. I enjoyed the drive up more than the Summit. Next time I will just take a leisurely drive and skip the top.

david s

I used to come here as a kid and never got charged. Tried to share the experience with my kids and it was going to cost over $50! Really disappointed. The lady was very kind but overall huge letdown after driving from Washington State and this being a planned stopped. As a national park they wouldn't take our national park pass either because the city is running the gate system. Bummmmmeerrrr.

Kirsten Nash

I know....it is America's mountain. But, PP seemed pretty commercialized and all about the money. I found nearby Mt. Evans to be far superior and more nature-y

michael martinez

The challenge to keep your word together as you climb this beautiful monument. The ride up was exhilarating with such nature's beauty everywhere! You need a car with at least a V6 also people have a habit of slowing down too much when navigating the C turns so you need give yourself a few far lengths so you keep a running start. On the way down put it in the lowest gear try not to use excessive braking or you will burn up the pads I witnessed this happening!! I pulled over several times on the way down because idiot drivers..coast! Great gift shops!

Aaron Gerry

I always enjoy hiking here, the rangers are super nice and the trail is well marked yet beautiful. Oh and don't get me started on the views. This is a 14er so be prepared to work hard physically and mentally to get to the top.

Way Vog

After driving through Rocky Mountain National Park. I drove to Pikes Peak to drive up it because its there. But it was raining hard whenI I got to it and the guy said they could close it because of the weather. And then they wanted people to take the bus instead of their vehicles. So I thought why bother.

Hannah Beam

An amazing drive to the top! I did the driving and had a lot of adrenaline going through me! Definitely thrilling as much as it is breathtaking up there! We got there kind of late and they are really strict about closing time so just make sure you have plenty of time! We didn't get to get out and look around long. They were also doing construction at the very top when we were there which was a bit of a bummer but I'm sure it will be worth it when they are done. We did stop at the Crystal Reservoir on our way up and they were draining it and that was actually really neat to see and walk around. We did some fishing there (part of why we were late driving up the rest of it!) It was chilly at the top but it was nice since it was so hot at the base! Got a bad sunburn while we were at the reservoir so definitely bring sunscreen if you're going to get out and walk around for awhile! Also, make sure when you drive down you use the LOWEST gear possible because we used a low gear but not the lowest and our brakes got too hot. The pamphlet just said "a low gear" not the lowest and we are from Kansas so we didn't know. Overall worth it!

Charity Breed

We caught some great fish at the Pueblo Reservoir! I definitely love coming here to fish, explore, for boating, and family summer fun!! This is a great size body of water for all your water needs! Also, they have paddle board rentals, kayak rentals, and jet ski rentals! Go check this place out!

Scott Roudebush

Incredible! The views all the way up the mountain are amazing. Currently a lot of construction at the summit. I drove all the way to the top. Most people should take the shuttle. It's not a Sunday drive in the park the last 3 miles. Dress warm and bring some oxygen

Mary Foster

It was wonderful, but there is construction up at the summit and no snow. Also, if you suffer from altitude sickness, be careful. I felt so sick and dizzy inside that I had trouble walking or enjoying any of it. Not their fault, just a reminder.

Dieon Roger

They make you go till checkpoint 16 and have you park there. You need to take a free bus from point 16 all the way to the top. Till checkpoint 16, the views and drive are average. After 16, make sure your cameras are out cause it is one hell of an amazing drive. I didn't feel the too was breathtaking compared to My Evans. But the roads that lead to the top are the showstoppers.

D. Bowen

Beautiful views. You can only drive to the 13 and 16 mile points right now since they're constructing the new visitors center at the summit. The van service they're operating was efficient in moving lots of folks pleasantly.

holly murtha

Omg amazing! We’ve done my Washington but this was crazy!! My husband go out to take a picture of the truck and he got light headed!!! We got to the top of the mountain and we BOTH got light headed!!:) lol we live AT sea level so it really effected us. BUT we go GREAT PICS!! Totally worth it!! It’s a MUST SEE trip if you haven’t done it!! See the cloud is LOWER than my truck!!!

Goodnight BBQ Co.

Once in a lifetime a person needs to have a odd ace in the hole, "I made it to Pikes Peak and back" just may be the social lubricant needed to start a conversation. Fantastic views, one more thing off my bucket list.

Shane Rudd

The views are stunning. Right now there's a whole construction team at the top building a new visitors center. That Spoils the view a bit, but once they're done I'm sure it'll be good. Also, don't go there early expecting to be first up the mountain. They're doing races up there, so just wait until 8:30 or 9 to get there.

Matt P

Fantastic views. The Summit may be closed to cars during construction. You can still get to the top on a shuttle bus.

Melanie Vincent

Beautiful and amazing views. Right now there's a lot of construction going on at the top, which isn't very attractive, but it will be really nice once it's done. Had to try one of their magical doughnuts and they were delicious. We were told if we took one back down the mountain we could watch it deflate & turn hard as a rock, but we opted to just eat them. Ha The cog railway is being re-done and won't be back in service until 2021.

Kofi D

Great views, walking in the clouds at the peak was awesome. No parking up there due to constriction but the shuttles do a great job transporting everyone for free to the top. Well we paid $15 per person to get into the main entrance anyway so I guess it's not free.

Nicholas Gordon

Driving up Pike's Peak is a rare and beautiful experience, but be aware that because of extensive construction at the top (completion probably in 2021), you can drive only partway up and take a free shuttle the rest of the way. Despite the construction, the views are incredible (weather permitting), and the shuttles actually a plus for those not comfortable with steep, twisting mountain roads with no shoulders.

Carol Hartis

Fun adventure. The drive was lovely, it was 80 degrees when I parked my car to get on the shuttle and by the time we reached the top it was sleeting, snowing, and flashes of lightning and rumbling thunder. It was a wonderful experience. I was on my own and felt very comfortable. Would live to go back when it's a clear day

Heath Bogart

The mountains and views are breathtaking. Literally. Very exciting drive, except... You have to take shuttle from various points due to construction and limited parking. We were at the 16 mile mark. We enjoyed the ride up and back. The facilities at the summit were overcrowded, chaotic, unclean, and generally all we wanted to do was get out of there. It was a good decision to go.

The view: Amazing! The staff: Very friendly and helpful! Listen to them about what gear to use on the descent. It'll save you time and money, and possibly your life. The price: Very reasonable! $15 per person or $50 per car, whichever is less. Also, ask about veterans/military discount and disabled discount. The souvenirs are a little pricey though. Pay attention to the weather and check the temperature at the peak before you start up. It was close to 70° F at the bottom and 32°F and snowing at the peak when we visited. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. It'll stop the altitude sickness. One more piece of advice, make sure your driver isn't afraid of heights. Nuff said.

We were lucky to take in the view on a clear day... Pretty cool to be able to access 14,000 plus feet from your vehicle. The donuts at the top were fun (but perhaps overrated). Besides the amazing mountain views, we were able to spot some wildflowers and big horn sheep.

Beautiful, got to top this time, on going construction of new summit buildings very little room to park, so I took shuttle from last parking area the last bit to top.

One day trip at pikes peak is well worthy. Please be there early, otherwise the lines are getting too long and the parking lot gets crowded. And there usually storms in the afternoon. Do stop and enjoy the view along the way to adapt to the elevation, especially for child under 12. Strongly suggest to take shuttle 13 or 16 to the top. It is included in the admission. Well, if your body is more tune to the elevation, you might want to drive by yourself and stop frequently to adapt. Shuttles are not stopping, they go directly to the top. On the top, move slowly, and don’t do crutches. You will be short of breath if you run or even walk fast. If you don’t feel good, drink a lot of water. That helps.

I was born at the base of this mountain in Colorado Springs, so by law it belongs to me. I will gladly and graciously allow you visit this peak, either by foot, by car, or train. Pick your pleasure and it can get you to the top. Currently I've decided to update the visitor center up at the summit and the construction has limited the parking available to only people with disability parking and people with children in car seats. But you can park at mile 13 or 16 and ride a free shuttle up because I'm nice like that. This construction and the Cog Railroad construction will most likely be happening for another couple years or so and I'm sorry about that but in the end it will make the experience of the Peak so much better. So again, you're welcome.

Great Finds

It has a great view. There are lots of unreleased cars that test these roads, so that's a nice perk. Just be aware that it gets very cold on the top. There is still snow in June.

John Alton

I have always wanted to drive to the top, the views do not disappoint. There is construction going on at the summit and the cog train is being renovated, so be aware of how they allow access to the summit. Check the website to see what is open and what options you have, you will not be disappointed.

Alex Huff

Great place to hike/drive, beautiful scenery. Make sure you drink lots of water, bring a jacket for the summit, drive slow, and don’t ride your brakes on the way down. Would highly recommend taking the shuttle at mile marker 13 if you are not use to cliffs and big drop offs.

I had a good time seeing Americas Mountain with my wife. We will be back, i hope next time there will be a more enjoyable woman at the register when i bought my souvenirs she was rude and acted like she had someplace better to be. If you can be happy doing your job get a different one.

Something you have to see is the top of a tall mountain sometime in your life and pikes peak make that very very easy to do! Cost about 40$ but how easy they make the whole thing make that worth it to me. And it is one of the more beautiful views, one problem is the construction on the top, it is a little ugly up there while they are building the new building up there at the top. 5 stars when the construction is all over with. Still everyone should go tho.

Beautiful views!! We took the shuttle from the 7 mile and the shuttle drivers were great and friendly on the way up and down both. Was disappointed at the top, the gift shop area had a very undesirable smell and was quite dumpy. But they're building a new one, which is awesome!, so lots of construction going on. It's worth the drive up though! Oh and the doughnuts were good

Wonderful drive, amazing - but terrifying - views. We saw a herd of mountain goats on the way, too, which was fun. Roads are well maintained. I'm eager to see an improved center at the top; this one is rather messy on the outside/entrances, and very crowded each time we have visited over the years. Bathrooms and food area need improvement also. A bit of historical signs posted up top would be great, too, so you don't feel like the main purpose is the gift shop. Don't expect a signal for your cell phone on the drive, except periodically.

Eric Moody

Beautiful views going up, down, and at the top. Make sure and pick a clear day for best viewing. The drive is not for the faint of heart, so take the shuttle if you don't think you can handle driving yourself. Awesome to drive up to 14k feet!!

Pikes Peak, one of the best places I have been so far in the US. If you ever plan to visit Colorado, Pikes Peak has to be in your itinerary.. Make sure you visit the summit. It's at a staggering height of 14,115 feet. If you are confident in driving on such kind of roads, roads that lead to the top of a mountain with steep curves, the drive is worth... The summit is beautiful . I visited in the month of May and the mild snowfall at the summit was a big plus. If you don't like driving, you can avail shuttle facilities from the entrance gate. Whatever mode of transport you choose, you will not regret visiting this place.

Alicia Carleo

The drive here can be really intense, so make sure your car is up to it! Our rental car was ok on the way up, but struggled badly on the way down and they almost stopped us! Some might be deterred by the fact that the reservoir is drained or summit under construction, however I believe it's a unique opportunity to see these things in action - we may never see something like this again in our lifetime! Make sure to keep fluids on hand, especially as you go up in altitude. Oh! And right now, you can't go up to the summit - you have to catch a ride in the provided shuttles. The furthest you can go is MM16. But the shuttle drivers are nice and it gives everyone a chance to see the view.

Shannon Miller

Definitely once in a lifetime experience! Although 2 out of 4 of us felt dizzy and had a tiny bit of a struggle breathing. We took the shuttle up the very last part. The shuttle drivers were amazing!! The views were phenomenal!

Lynne Gray

I loved the area. Suggest you definitely map out your route. The road is curvy and fast. So knowing where you are going is def a must. Area is awesome!

Larry Kime

Pikes peak is famous in part because of the race to the top. Mount Evan's to the north is higher, cheaper and more scenic. Be prepared to experience all 4 seasons on the way to the top. A new visitors center is being built so access is limited, shuttle Van's are used for the last two miles. Not a bad thing, considering road and weather conditions. There is a dated visitors center, gift shop bathrooms and cafe at the top. You will spend more time inside the outside. The day I went, there was a afternoon hail storm and heavy overcast, highly restricting the view. They say that the weather is mostly clearer in the mornings with summer afternoon storms being normal. Plan accordingly.

Stacy Antley

I was so,so disappointed! After waiting in quite a lengthy line, we arrive at the gate to be told that only service dogs were allowed! I'm sorry. What did you just say? Oh, we can only go 16 of the 19 miles due to the construction unless one of us have a mobility issue and then we can ride the shuttle. I'm sorry. What did you just say? You want me to leave my babies in the hot car? I think NOT but thanks for all the signs a long the 3 mile stretch of wait! COME ON COLORADO! You are a tourist attraction. We come from all over to soend our money with you. We have pets and we need you to be a little more considering if this fact. Otherwise, we may tell ALL of our friends and family that you don't like dogs. We all know what kind if people don't like dogs, now dont we?!

Benjamin Flessner

What? You need a review for this?? It's Pike's Peak! It's fantastic. If you're in the area, go see it! Best time to go is early in the morning. No wait and best views. As of summer 2019, there is a lot of construction around the summit, so you must take a shuttle from the 16 mile lot. You can drive higher if you're not going to the summit, but there are plenty of shuttles, so there's not much of a wait once you're there. The Cog railway is currently being replaced, so that's not an option either. Plenty of shuttle services, though, if you don't want to put the strain on your car (or nerves!).

Patrick Ruth

The weather was severe so we were not allowed to the top. We took a hike at a lower elevation around some reservoirs. It was very nice however the wind gave me a headache. If there were anything I could change it would be the fee. It is per person not per car.

M Hilde

Went on a Saturday. Opens at 9. Use the restroom before you go cuz open at 9am....means OPEN AT 9!!!!!!!! NOT A MILLISECOND earlier (even though the staff is all there early. The two visitor centers, one top, one bottom...BOTH....were low on ink for their passport book cancellation stamps. "Really?".......S-E-R-I-O-U-S-L-Y?? The views are spectacular, the drive is amazing, the staff........um yeah, no. It's a NATIONAL FOREST....where are the rangers?... Huh? What GOD created is indescribable! If not for the staff, I would have recorded 5-stars....hence the 3 recorded. Also check the price before you buy anything; I paid $31 dollars for a $7 knit hat! Skip the donuts, too....they're less than "nutin special"

Jeff White

Excellent experience. Can't wait to ride the train again when it is newly renovated! Did the drive up and down the mountain this time and it was fun for me, the driver, but my wife prefers the train. There are a couple of places to stop along the way with gift shops included, of course. Be sure to have a donut while you're at the top!

Thomas Emge

An awesome place to visit. For us the parking lot at mile 13 was perfect. The views are breathtaking and with a little luck you get to see some wildlife as well on the way up or down.
