Reviews of Jerome's Sliding Jail (Tourist Attraction)

Jerome is a fascinating place to explore high in the mountains above Cottonwood Az. An old copper mining town that nearly burned down had been partially restored by artists, merchants and other town folk into a tourist attraction with cool galleries, restaurants, shops of all kinds and an old hotel under renovation. The views from that altitude are spectacular! Bring plenty of water and good shoes, and take in the charm of a wonderful little town.

I love Jerome! So much to see in such a small area. All the little shops are great, and I have to get my burger fix at the Haunted Hamburger every time I visit

I expected difficulty finding parking and packed sidewalks but was pleasantly surprised. Finding parking was easy and only a short walk to see most of the sites Jerome has to offer. The jail was amusing as always with tourists throwing their change over the walls and aiming for the toilet. A fun day trip any time!

I went there 30 years ago as a teenager. I went there 13 years ago on my honeymoon. I went there recently with my whole family. Plenty of artist shops. Has a few restaurants. It was an actual working copper mining town established in 1876. Plenty to see and do in close proximity.

The drive to and from Jerome was absolutely spectacular incredible views and really enjoyed the winding and twisting roads. the town is definitely a tourist destination but still really nice to walk around great shops nice restaurants over although prices were really high

Well, the town is absolutely geared towards tourists specially the shops' pricing. However, it does not negate the historical value of places like the sliding jail and the Jerome Grand Hotel

Ran out of time to see the sliding jail in Jerone, but had a great lunch at Bobby D's Barbecue located in one of Jerome's historic buildings. Friends have had positive comments about other local restaurants. It's a great little town full of history and hauntings. I have to mention breathtaking views of open space looking out towards Sedona and snow capped Frisco Peaks beyond. I love this place and intend to return hopefully later this year.

Ok, truth be told the jail is not the draw. But the rest of Jerome is definitely worth the drive. Jail is cool. Broken down & sliding down the mtn. But you wouldn't HAVE to see it. You SHOULD see the rest of Jerome. At sunrise.

As decrepit crumbling buildings go, this is one of the most accessible, with an interesting story, but actually being there adds very little to most people's lives. I guess it's kinda cool that they didn't just knock it down, but maybe the town is just lazy and figures it will fall down in its own given enough time.

We drove through Jerome last year coming from Sedona going back to Cali. We made sure next time that we go back to Az we will stop by and spend some time to explore this city. It has a very interesting history, rustic place and friendly people. They have one winding street goes through the town. We love it!

Just a tourist site within a tourist site. A lot things to see in Jerome including and old copper mine. Mostly walking in a pretty steep old town, lots of small shops and even a haunted hamburger eatery. Ate there but never saw a ghost, and you couldn't have heard one, the place was totally crowded with a wait for seating. Food was good though.

This is a good place in Jerome to go. Although the food was okay, I would look at other places to go if you want something a little different. If this was the only place open I would not mind going there. Jerome is a small City, mainly a tourist attraction. So if you're hungry, this would not be a bad place.

The history of Jerome is really cool. I recommend taking the Jerome History or Ghost Tours. They will talk to you about the sliding jail and show you where party of it is today.

At 5280 feet elevation this is absolutely the coolest town in Arizona! Stop by the Haunted Hamburger for lunch or one of the many other bestros available. Make sure you visit the haunted hotel at the top of the town and staff there are excellent and there is an awesome restaurant in the hotel if you are looking for something a little more fancy.

Visited here on a prior trip to the area but not for paranormal stuff. This trip was at night for just that reason. This town at night is super quiet and kind of spooky dispite the ghost hunting tours that wander the streets. We went on our own little tour without guides or other people to distract us. We had a blast.. Didnt get anything at the jail but we were there right after a big tour left. We did get a neat orb at the old hotel though..

Cool, funky little town. Definitely unique. Weird to think that the jail actually used to be several hundred feet up the hill. The history of the town is fascinating! I’d like to do a Ghost Tour next time. Totally worth spending a few hours or the entire day milling around. The whole vibe of the town is one to be experienced.

Amazing OLD structure that out of all the buildings in this slide area has survived (and really has slid across the road over the years). Possibly the jail is with us still because of a tragic lynching there that took the life of a young man who loved a young lady not of his class.
