REVIEWS OF Glen Canyon Dam IN Arizona

Free parking, free & clean restrooms, bottle refill station, amazing view and a souvenir shop. A great visitor center with a great exhibition about the Dam! Loved it.

Mike Young

Really amazing how this dam is built and how it provides both water and electricity in the remote desert

Dawn Davies

Driven past many times, but never stopped. So glad I did this time. Excellent exhibits and very educational. A fascinating look at the history of the area. Will definitely stop again since a couple of hours was not enough time to take in everything.

Cassandra Sim

Educational stop. This was where I learnt about the California Condor. Very interesting!

Piyush Parajiya

I love Dams. So.... I found the Dam and the Dam bridge to be super cool! Only 5 bucks per adult and the tour lasts about 45 minutes. No advance purchase on the web etc. you have to go buy your tickets at the visitor center. You have to go through security and no bags are allowed. You can take water, phone, wallet sunglasses etc. Not a ton of walking and the elevator rides are super easy with the biggest elevators I’ve ever been in.

Chris Bauer

water is such a precious resource in the desert. For only $5 bucks a pop take the family for a tour of Glen Canyon dam, its worth the extra time!

Ben Oliva

Very interesting tour and a very knowledgeable guide.

Khoa Dang

Great educational opportunity. Guided tour for $5. Worth it

Nice place

TJ Poole

Very cool spot that overlooks the Colorado River. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area or moving through.

John REID

Learn how water conservation played an important roll in the settlement of the West. Take a tour of the dam and see the canyon and lake from the top. Also walk by the power generation room. Very cool tour.

Ashley Bracken

I didnt do a tour but pulled over omw back to camp after antelope cyn tours. My dog was on a kennel for a few hours so we figured we'd let her stretch her legs. With taking photos it may be a quick, but beautiful, 30mins round trip, but u could definitely take longer enjoying the view.

Rebeca Polo

Could not catch the Dam tour, but the views to Lake Powell were great from the Visitor Center!

Jest Gaming

Stopped by to fish and some some lizards and got some nice pictures was a fun experience and I want to go back again.

Chris Bridges

I’m a Dam geek. So.... I found the Dam and the Dam bridge to be super cool! Only 5 bucks per adult and the tour lasts about 45 minutes. No advance purchase on the web etc. you have to go buy your tickets at the visitor center and we happened to get there at 1:30 and had no issues getting tickets for the 2:00 tour. You have to go through security and no bags are allowed. You can take water, phone, wallet sunglasses etc. Not a ton of walking and the elevator rides are super easy with the biggest elevators I’ve ever been in.

Niamh McGoff

Great tour. Very informative

Joeri Hendrickx

Thank you Paul for being a great guide! Very interesting tour!

Patrick Prentice

Very cool place! I highly recommend taking a river boat tour below the dam as it gives a very different point of view!

Jim Bergstrom

I like this dam and its environs better than Hoover Dam. The view from the visitor center is outstanding.

Morgan Heinkel

Our tour guide Paige was the best! You could tour the top of the damn, underneath, and the power plant! Great value, friendly people and amazing in person! - recommend calling ahead for reservations. $5 per adult. Dress in layers, outside for part of tour, inside of dam is 55°F all year.

Kylie

Such a work of art that something like this was built! It is worth taking a tour to go on and inside the dam.

Wendell Barnes

Love the visitor's center. There are some great views of the dam. The store has some great items for sale.

Sanjay Gupta

Glad we stopped by here on our way to Vegas from Page I was not even aware of this. While going to Vegas from Page, AZ I crossed this bridge and saw Glen Canyon Visitor center. I stopped by and glad I did. It is a less famous version of …

Trisha Blood

Visited Glen Canyon today. SO MUCH info and history! The tour was great, although my body didn't enjoy the massive drop in pressure when we went all the way down inside the elevator. In any case, the tour guide was amazing also. It was a great day!

Zin Mon Thet

Great Tour of the Dam. You could see how the dam operates from different elevations. The tours are hourly, but I would recommend calling ahead as they are pretty much booked up.

Neklan Broženský

Spectacular roadside views, worth taking a break for.

Michel Heijnen

Very nice area. You can not drive over the dam but you can drive over the bridge next to it and park at the end, get out, and walk over it to get a better appreciation of this engineering marvel.

Sai CH

The view around in this place are amazing. I went to the guided tour which was 15$ , they gave a walk through to the dam, generators below. It was a different experience to get to know the construction history and see the dam very near.

Amar S. Virk

A place to appreciate human ingenuity.

Roger Faulkner

Nice place to visit and tour while in Page.

Geoff Calhoun

An abomination of what was once a beautiful and sacred river canyon, now filled with silt. Tragic Destruction of a national archaeological treasure so fat people can drink beer and get a tan.

Rajesh Lakshmipathi

Beautiful and informative place. The tour guide Paul was very very informative and gave as much as information he can. From bridge Dam looked bit tiny where as when we were in Visitor center and on the tour DAM was HUGE. And beautiful views. Definitely worth the visit. Tours available on hourly basis and they charge 5$ per person.

Bradley Leimbach

We stopped here on a whim and it turned out to be amazing. We took the Dam Tour, it was about 45 minutes and cheap. I highly recommend it. They have tours that leave every half hour. Our 5 year old really liked it. The visitor center was really great and informative. They even had a Junior Ranger Program.

Becky Carroll

We took the grandkids on our way to Blanding for a family reunion. Really enjoyed the tour! You must take it!

Jean-Claude Linossi

Impressive dam and great sights.

NomNom Gnome

In hot summer days, this area provides nice area to rest and be educated. There’s a gift shop and restroom within the vicinity however no restaurants. Nice overlook of the dam!

James & Lynne Hagley

Excellent experience. We had the BEST tour guide, a local retired man who connected with our group, who was an amazing communicator.

Pierros Zevolis

Pretty nice dam, with interesting architecture and many nice spot for taking photos. The visitors center is very informative. It is not a time consuming point of interest and absolutely worth a visit. There are also some shaded areas at the outdoor space, nice for relax.

Leah Weese

Great views and visitor center museum.

Soren Ludwig

Pretty dam cool. Had a great, cheap tour and a good visitor center.

Eugenio Dolzani

Definitely take the dam tour for $5. It's 45 min long and it's totally worth it!

Young09ethan

Being a guy in his 20's, i was a little unsure of whether or not I would like a tour of a dam, but I definitely don't regret it. The tour guide was very friendly and taught us all about the construction and innerworkings of the dam in a clear and concise way. You can tell that he really enjoyed his job. Additionally, the view was incredible of both the river and the bridge.

Carl Stephenson

Well worth the time. Inexpensive tours.

Axel Robbins

Pretty view and a good place to take pictures of the desert. The visitor center has a lot of information and it is fun to stop and spend a while.

Blade Berkhart

Very impressive dam and beautiful lake. Definitely one of the prettiest lakes in the world.

Kylie Vo

Very beautiful and high! In a clear day, the water got even prettier! And the view of the bridge is awesome. Highly recommend you check it out and go on the tour!

Монте Кристо

It is a nice beautiful dam!

Walter Rothe

A masterpiece of American engineering. Walk over the Glen Canyon Dam bridge and enjoy the stunning view to the dam and down to the Colorado River. The Carl Heyden visitor center is also worth a visit. Guided tours are offered too.

Kat T

Beautiful, clean, very well organized:)

Tyler James Larsen

This is amazing. Good, clean energy. Staff is very friendly.

Christina Leighfield

Staff was professional, knowledgeable and awesome.

Miguel Verdugo Baylon

Nice view and excellent weather, a lot of things to do in this place

Wolfgang

super cool tour, highly recommend!

Alex Vancomerbeck

Much better tour than the Hoover dam, and way cheaper too. Good visitor center and exhibits as well

Keong Ng

Spectacular! Glen Canyon Dam, Lake Powell, Slot Canyons, and Horse Shoe Bend, makes Page the go to place in Arizona.

Randall Williams

What an awe inspiring sight. The dam was kinda big and kinda wide. It was holding water at the time, sorry folks no hot pools of lava.

Noah Ross

place looks hella cool. dont know what it does cause the visitor center was closed when we went but still hella sick dam

Richard Rohrer

Very impressive. Stopped and wife took pictures and I enjoyed the view. Nice museum about the dam.

Scott Taylor

Awesome place

BradJill Travels

An engineering feat and impressive manmade structure to see in Page Arizona is the Glen Canyon Dam and Carl Hayden Visitor Centre (free entry). Opening hours 8am to 5pm. Here you can take guided tours of the dam. See website for schedule and reservation details. You can also enjoy a fair number of interesting exhibition displays as well as views of the dam and Lake Powell. There is a gift shop and public restrooms available as well. We quite enjoyed walking through the exhibition area of the Carl Hayden VC. You can learn about the history of the dam, its construction and creation of Lake Powell as well as the management of water flow of the Colorado River. Additional information is displayed to educate the public on the geology, nature and wildlife in the area. Collectively, there is easily 20-30 minutes worth of interesting learning available. For those who want nice views of the Glen Canyon Dam, you can pull your vehicle over on the east side of the bridge crossing and see the structure up close and quite well. Open windows from within the Visitor Centre provide more quality views. Another good view is from the dam view point located a couple miles down Hwy 89 on a Scenic Drive lookout. Just follow signs south of the dam. Overall, the dam is smaller and less dramatic than what you see at Lake Mead further down the Colorado River at the Nevada/Arizona border. However, it is still an impressive structure and fun place to spend a bit of time for those visiting Page, Arizona and Lake Powell.

Ben Moll

Cool place to learn about the dam that created Lake Powell.

Neil Macleod

What an incredible piece of engineering. The scale of this dam is awe inspiring. It is hard to take in the scale of this place when you stand at the midway point and look down and then out to the electricity generation area. The visitor centre is full of interesting info and makes for a great family day out. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Pawash Priyank

Pictures say it all. Just wow ! One makes a stop at this place for upper and lower antelope tours but the entry to the city through this dam amazes you first ! Oh my god ...awesome !

Robert Simpson

Very interesting and educational facility. A wonder of the modern world.

Ed Fischer

A damn impressive dam, I was surprised that I never heard of it. I drove over it in the middle of the night en route to Page, AZ and didn't see it until the next day and I was delighted. I found it to be just as impressive as the Hover Dam though not as big, but in a way more-so due its remote location. Definitely visit the nice little dam museum, and if there's a dam tour, I'd take that dam thing too.

Ashley Counts

It was very informative. Worth the money. Inexpensive and fun.

Kevin Mowat

Great views, worth the long journey to visit

Austin

this dam is a waste of American resources and a disgrace to one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. I hope it breaks.

Louis Hong

I highly recommend the guided tour. It's the other "Hoover" dam! Almost the same size, and once upon a time, the largest infrastructure project in the US. Security guards are a bit serious, but it's understandable. It's always cool on the bottom of the dam due to the cold water. Bring a jacket no matter how hot it is outside.

Tony Phillips

Great place to visit. The lake is huge and very beautiful --- blue water against sandstone. Tour the river below the dam --- fantastic ! Would love to rent a houseboat on the lake , during another visit.

Robert Hawkins

Interesting tour of the dam. After a few National Parks looking at the geology it is really nice to see how this has been used to benefit the people who now depend on the drinking water, irrigation, electric and flood management that this and the other dams on the Colorado. The tour guides are excellent and the tour is not expensive.

Angel Stokes

I think this view is better than the Hoover Dam! The parking is free at the visitor center and the view is amazing.

Qianqian Yang

Amazing place definitely! But it was sunset when we got here, they usually have tour departing from their tour center before 5pm. People should visit if you are near this area. Actually it's a must I meant, lol~

Gail Anderson

Loved this area...lots to do and stayed at a wonderful B&B Canyon Colors.

Olivia Taylor

Amazing views from this location! Worth a stop for sure!

Mike Bailey

Absolutely ridiculous. Guards walking around with AR15's slung around their chest. They act like they are so intimidating. I hope other people voice their opinion about this. We are not in the middle East for God's sake. I understand armed guards, but give me a break, they do not have to have AR15'S on them 24 7!!!!!!!!!

Baren Creque

This dam really is just as impressive as the Hoover Dam, next time I return I'm going to take the guided tour. I highly recommend parking at the visitors center and walking back over the bridge to take in the sights

Jimmy TS

I'll tell you one thing and one thing only. Consider some simple mechanics here. You have a slab of concrete. Dry Concrete has roughly the same density as water at room temperature! Now this is far from room temperature but bear with me here, I'm not quite done with the one thing I have to say then I'll be done. Look at me right now, look at me. How do you expect me to believe that this with a density that is equivalent to the liquid element that which it withstands is capable of doing just that? Consider the size of the liquid body and the size of the solid (albeit a disorderly, noncrystalline solid I will grant you that, but I do think my thesis survives, nay flourishes with this in mind, please stay focused) and again look at me and look at the size of the solid body am I supposed to (again, look at me) believe that these sizes don't contradict the situation I am supposedly witnessing? Simply unbelievable. For that, I take off a star. The other two missing stars are for the temperature of the locale (remember that time I said that this is far from room temperature? Well I meant in the direction of an increased temperature on the fahrenheit scale! I am sure you forgot) and again, yet this is for the temperature I must also keep in mind that the light there was immense. If I had forgotten my sun blocking spectacles I would be blinded! Oh pity upon those who forgot this simple contraption that proved to be so very precious on this day! And I am aware! Yes I am quite aware, painfully aware, in fact, of how the light has relations, perhaps I should not even use such a word as relations, as it distances those two that are actually (though perhaps not apparently!) of the same being!! For these two are intertwined and cannot be separated! There is no relationship to sever but simply their own existence which is a singular body! Yes the light and heat are one and the same, yet they are processed differently by man and I am but a man and I must process my surroundings as such! My ratings are based on experience and those three reasons bring me to the conclusion of two stars! Two stars for the Number Two dam in the Southwest United States! How Fitting! And no, Hoover for you are not number one! How very presumptuous of you! Oh dear I am simply having a blast!

Diego Armenta

Nice

Angeles Donatella

My family and I only stopped to admire the view for a little while.

Avijit Dey

Nice dam .good break on the way .

Tim S

I visited the dam during a HFE (high flow experiment) which included all four of the by pass tubes to be opened as well as all operating generator tubes to be opened. Vaughn was the tour guide. What an exceptional employee. Vaughn's knowledge, enunciation, demeanor was extremely appreciated. With the extra excitement and stress during the HFE, Vaughn did an outstanding job! The only suggestion I have is to advertise the next HFE. I am sure the town of Page would appreciate the extra economic boost as well as to give the public a better awareness of importance of the eco system of the river and canyons.

Elisa Castillo

Spectacular views. Great information and education for all at the visitor's center.

Yu Chieh Chang

Spectacular view and amazed by how they could build this massive construction before.

jophus Xakc

As an engineer, this is an amazing structure. The visitor center has tons of interesting information on the history and construction of the dam. My only recommendation is don't take a 2-year old who is grumpy and short on sleep on the tour. Once you begin the tour you have to finish with the group because the dam is a high security federal facility.

travis higley

Pretty cool. If you get the chance book a tour, and then walk across the bridge. You also get to drive across the bridge, just go slow and watch for people.

Ashu Sharma

2nd largest Dam of United states.

Nicole Imbimbo

Glen Canyon Dam is an amazing sight to see! We took the 45 minute tour of the facility and so happy that we did. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The tours are $5 per person and believe me when I say that you will not be disappointed. Best $5 spent!

Kai Luckan

Amazing tour for just $ 5. Highly recommended. 2 elevator rides included

Dannielle Manchester

We took a guided tour of the dam and after walking across the bridge, the dam was easy for me. The views are breathtaking and great opportunity for photos with lots of information on how the dam works. It is very warm on the dam so take water!!

Ethan Lindstrom

We did a quick stop through the visitor center, but you could spend hours on the exhibits (great science and engineering for discussion with kids). We'll be back to do the dam tour and spend more time.

Marcin Dabrowski

One of the Colorado River Dam System. Scenic view on Lake Powell.

Aaron Roberts

Great views, you can go to the bottom of the Glen Canyon Dam unlike the Hoover Dam.

Stephen Chen

a massive beauty of human engineering....

Adam Lyon

Beautiful stop. Didn't get the tour due to heat.

jackattack45

Museum was super interesting and the dam tour is a must.

Confi Entiti

Clean energy!

Chun pang Lai

Though not as popular as Hoover Dam, the high Glen Canyon Bridge with Dam sketch out the history of a small and tranquil town, Page with Lake Powell

Ian Quinn

The Glen Canyon Dam is amazing! The scenery here is very majestic and you can take many excellent photos. I bought a book about this dam building, which is very interesting. The dam is amazing. I suggest that everyone drive to this neighborhood and stop to enjoy this magnificent scenery.

Arjan Fledderman

Amazing structure! One of the biggest dams in America! Its jawdropping looking 200 meters down to see the Colorado River Canyon!

M. A.

Less crowded than Hoover dam and close to antelope canyon.

tammy reeves

Lots of Interesting Information, great photo ops, good tours.

Q Zhou

Nice dam

J S

June 2018: My family and I only stopped to admire the view for a little while. But the dam itself was magnificent..definitely worth taking a look at if you’re in the area!

Michael Wooff

not quite hoover dam, but pretty neat to see in person.

Bill Hammock

Our experience at Glen Canyon Dam was outstanding! Page, the tour guide with the same name as the town, signed us up for the tour when we arrived, told us about the videos to watch as we waited for the tour to begin and then took us on the tour of the workings of the dam. She was very knowledgeable and answered many questions. Time well spent. Nancy

Mac Steezy

Absolutely stunning! Breathtaking place, close to Hoover dam in beauty.

Ken and Alicia Lund

Beautifully situated dam, bridge, and visitor center.

Kenneth Ewing

Just a wonderful view. We checked the dam out while we were waiting to go to the slot canyon tour.

Taylor P

We went on the tour of the damn and it was pretty cool and interesting, but a little over priced for what you get in my opinion. Still cool though.

Abdullah Alharthi

Has a great trail

Tatiana Zander

Perfect opportunity for a detour when you wait for your Antelope Canyon tour to start. Beautiful view and plenty parking spots.

Dennis Mann

Best dam tour I’ve ever been on. The staff was super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Our guid, Hannah, was great and full of information. Don’t miss this pleasant, informative, and inexpensive piece of history and view.

Adam M N Jones

We almost didn’t go on the tour here, but I am so glad we did, massively interesting and tour guide Paul was such a nice man, having grown up here he gave such insight and really made for a fascinating tour. If you are in the area, it really is a must visit.

Simon og Jane Moesgaard Kristoffersen

2015-05-26 - You really learn a lot of you join the guided tour... I expected much less from the experience and was really positive about it.

Geoff Baker

Take the tour. It is fast and informative. You'll see many fascinating things that you wouldn't see anywhere else.

Jack Craig

Very interesting tour; guide was funny and courteous. Amazing engineering!

Roland Stranneborn

It's a great tour, you get to walk on tht dam, see the turbines inside, the bridge from below etc. Great tourguide.

Bryan Hermans

We very much enjoyed our visit. The dam and scenery are fantastic. The red rock, blue water, and big sky almost take your breath away. The excellent assortment of books for sale in the visitor center bests any I have seen elsewhere.

Trachemysta

Beautiful views and a nice visitor center. There are tours available. Free parking lot

James Sykes

Great tour of the dam. Very informative young lady was our guide. Took us through the whole damn from to bottom.

Monica Kocel

Must see! Tours are only $5 per person and last about 45 mins to an hour. Very similar to the Hoover dam, but much cooler in temperature and just as beautiful. Tours are small and intimate. Tour guides are very polite, energetic, and knowledgeable. Great parking available - free access to parking and dam only need to pay for the tour if desired. They also have stations to refill water bottles.
