REVIEWS OF Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve IN Alaska

Michelle Blumin

Incredible, and something you should try to experience before it's too late. I visited while on a cruise and was told that the glacier has receded a lot; you can see signs of where it once was and I imagine this marvel wont be around for much longer.

Beth P

Words and pictures cannot portray the beauty of Glacier Bay National Park. I am so glad I went. One of the most beautiful places I've ever visited.

Dell Fischer

We experienced Glacier Bay National Park via cruise ship. It's a very beautiful place but you have to be willing to see it from a distance. Our cruise ship had a ranger from the park that seemed to be selling the experience rather than focusing on nature. We tired of her over exuberant description of the park's features.

Mike Butts

Wow, wow, wow, I must have taken 1500 pics, otters, sea lions, brown bears, mountain goats, whales, eagles, puffers and glaciers, our park ranger guide was very knowledgeable and appreciative I would recommend any visitors from anywhere to come to Glacier Bay National park from anywhere not just if your going to be in Alaska

Jason Havey

A very beautiful national park, the glaciers were beautiful as much as a somber place to be at. There is much wife life to see, and you will need to keep your eyes open, have a camera and binoculars. You will see bears, mountain goats, seals, sea lions, sea otters, puffins, eagles, and whales. When you go, take your time and enjoy and take everything in

Neil Campbrll

Really enjoyed it. Tour guides we're all friendly as well as knowledgeable.

Scott Jones

Absolutely incredible destination. If you are trying to decide whether to take an Alaskan cruise with or without a visit to this treasure, take the cruise WITH a visit to GBNP. The view of the Majorie Glacier is incredible. National Park Service Rangers boarded our cruise ship in the early AM and provided all-day naration. A wonderful day.

Timothy Beck

Beautiful and immense, this park will require you a boat and many days to explore. While commonly toured by cruise ships, other opportunities to explore the vast ecosystem of this park are available, although a number of restrictions on activities exist to protect the wildlife in the park.

Les Curtis

Amazing natural beauty adapted for our use. A bit more commercialised than what I like, but you can put up with it for the sake of enjoyment. It can be a bit overcrowded at times.

Becky Stevens

So lucky to have seen this! Really amazing to see. Definitely recommend it

The Jade Rat

Amazing! Simply amazing. The sheer beauty and tranquility of it all is breathtaking. The scenery is unlike anything I've ever seen and I would recommend it to anyone. I checked it for it while on a cruise and it was so serene.

Kathryn Wilson

A must see for everyone. I've been twice. Once in 1997 on a large cruise ship and recently on a National Geographic expedition. Both were wonderful but the smaller ship was so much better. You will have a ranger and an indigenous cultural interpreter now. Become a junior ranger while you're at it!

Glen Wong

Fantastic scenery on a sunny day in September.

John William Wade

Only 2 ships a day get to travel here so I feel honoured to have had the opportunity that few do to come here and witness a majestic beauty that most people only dream of seeing. Witnessing firsthand the calving of a sea glacier is incredible! On Holland America you get to go up close and experience this National Park up close and personal. Of course it is cook there so dress accordingly. If you keep a sharp eye out you will see some seals there as well as a variety of birds. Having been to Jasper to see the Athabasca Glaciers I did not expect to be so impressed. These are just as impressive and should be on your bucket list to see. Holland America and Princess Cruise lines will take you there in comfort and style from Vancouver Port.

J B

The Alaska cruise on Golden Princess was unbelievable can't wait to go back!

xingbat

A truly lovely place. Can't miss!

Denise J. Stump

Very popular. Were there on a Monday, there were several bus loads of visitors also there. A bit of a walk to the museum/gift shop. Elevator is available. Good views of the Mendenhall glacier.

Misty I

Amazing. Came on a cruise and will definitely come back. One thing I will say, people who took the same cruise at the same time 2 years ago say the icebergs and glaciers now are almost nothing compared to then. No such thing as global warming? Take a trip to Alaska and see for yourself.

Nomadic Bee

The majestic beauty of this place is almost indescribable. If you've never been here try your best to visit at least once. It feeds your soul!

Mary Lamont

Besides the natural beauty the cruising was so relaxing and awe inspiring.

Ashton Smith

You must see at least once in your life! Saw bears, mountain goats, sealions, otters and more. The Glaciers are melting and calving into the ocean. It was very cool to see that. I have a feeling that eventually the Great Pacific Glacier will just get smaller and smaller as time goes on. So no time to waste, take you binoculars and go!

Nestor Del Rio

Amazing wonder of nature that remind us that time will pass and that our planet is changing due to global warming or climate change or whatever you wanna call it but we are living and seeing these changes. What you can see here it will never be the same.

Rebecca Bagley

Beautiful park! Enjoyed the view while on the NCL.

Lillian Quintero

Amazing Beautiful! God is so so good

David Lawson

Very Impressive. You have to have s reference to realize how big Glaciers

SDIN TO

Amazing place. Please help preserve it.

Randy Rienth

Unbelievable, beautiful. Clear blue skies a.nd wonderful views. If you ever get the chance go see this. One of the few glaciers that is not shrinking

yannick villalobos

The scenic views are amazing! Great experience.

Debbie McPherson

It is amazing, breathtaking and peaceful. We didn't see any calving this trip.

Jeff

Beautiful but much smaller than 10 years ago when I was here. Hope they get some heavy snow this winter.

Mary Iancu

Amazing i love it so much and I hope i will be happy to come back with my family and friends

matt geil

Awesome place to visit. Absolutely breathtaking.

The Jordans

Wow! Gorgeous, natural and pristine national park.

Nick Nikzat

Cruise of a lifetime! Incredible weather, and amazing scenery.

Mason Reilly

Absolutely beautiful. The rangers are very friendly and knowledgeable, and they do a great job of guiding you through the park. If you're doing a boat tour, expect to see and learn about some very fascinating birds. You will almost definitely see sea lions, humpback whales, and sea otters. You have a chance of seeing orcas, mountain goats, and bears, but it's less likely. I've been here all summer and I've only seen one wolf for a split second. The glaciers are awe inspiring. If you have a choice, I would recommend John Hopkins, as the approach around Jaw Point gives you a really unique perspective on glaciers, which helps to wrap your mind around the scale of the things. Overall - highly recommend.

Katie Hayter

Such beauty! I was overwhelmed with emotion being among an amazing sight.

Starbuck _

If you can get here you need to experience it! The history of the massive fast moving glacier is amazing. Views are amazing with good wildlife sighting.

Saugat Roy

It's one of the few national parks that you can only visit on water. I believe currently they only allow 2 Cruise ships to enter in a day, so when you pick a Cruise ensure that the destination has Glacier Bay National Park in the list. The place is just beautiful.

Eddie Huang

Amazing what nature can do. Glad to visit before the glacier recedes any more. National Park Rangers came on board our ship and gave several presentations and answered any questions we had. They stayed on board for about eight hours. Got some great shots this day.

Kelly Ortiz

What a beautiful place! I've been here a couple of times and Holland America cruise line does it the best.

Gaurang Chandrakant

This is a magical place. The beauty, the vastness and the vulnerability of nature all on display. Just a magical experience. Seeing blocks of ice floating past us was an unique experience. You see clear signs of where the glaciers were earlier and how it's reducing each year. Experience it before it's late..

gr8tfulded

Excellent. Only drawback is food. Lodge restaurant are your only choices. Food served is good enough but quite pricey. Plan ahead bring snacks, drinks, granola etc.

Dave Van Dusen

Such raw natural beauty. If on a ship, get outside on deck. The glaciers crack like a rifle shot as they move and break.

adam guthridge

Breathtakingly beautiful!!! We were lucky enough to get some great weather which made our visit to glacier bay that much better.

Lee Botte

Just incredible. Breathtaking. Photos do not do it justice - you have to see it. Canada and Alaska - you have been beyond our expectations ❤❤❤

Rich Senner

Beautiful, serene and sadly melting...

Josh P

Beautiful place! Glaciers are impressive, though the real beauty is everything else around them. Very cool. Very glad we went. They only let 2 cruise ships a day into this location. All the ice in the water is pretty cool.

Roberta Powell

Breathtaking beauty at your fingertips. The cruise to Alaska aboard the Westerdam took us in and sat for a while as we all used our binoculars to scan the rookery and enjoy the other wildlife that calls Glacier Bay home.

Alan Luse

Fabulous place to get up close to glaciers. The other scenery and wildlife in the bay and in Icy Strait outside the bay can be exciting as well. If you are planning a cruise or other trip to Alaska be sure it includes Glacier Bay.

John Gledhill

Our tour of the Inside Passage found us today at the Glacier Bay National Park and what a spectacular day this has been. Up and out on deck for 05.30am ready to catch sunrise and we wasn’t disappointed as we saw the sun create a dramatic fireball of orange as a backdrop to the mountains cast in silhouette. The sky was crystal clear but the wind was phenomenally strong making it difficult to stand on the bridge of the ship but perseverance had to prevail. As the morning unfolded we managed to see one whale partially present itself out of the water and later we also had sea otters and a lone eagle but ahead waited the glaciers. After quite some time we arrived at our first glacier Margerie and then onto Johns Hopkins glacier. Others were seen on the way but these two stood out for me. An amazing day weather wise starting out with very strong wind but the afternoon turned into a hot summers day however, the contrasting conditions only contributed to the experience. Nature and wilderness at its best summed up the same by all the other reviews. Breathtaking scenery..... this trip Is an absolute must if you are exploring South East Alaska.

PAL

Few years ago the ocean here was full of thick ice, the cruises had to literally cut through big chunks of icebergs, but today due to Global Warming, there are hardly any floating icebergs. Hope our next generation can have the privilege to see these MAGNANIMOUS Glaciers in ALASKA!!!

Sunny Liu

Excellent national park and the place to learn about glacier.

Dan Wilding

Wow! I love this place! I've taken the cruise into the area and Glacier Bay is far and above the Tracy arm. The views are magnificent. We saw bear, sea otter, puffin, eagles, what and sea lion. We saw several glaciers. We actually witnessed a Glacier calving, motion times. We could hear the glaciers popping and grinding. If you come to Alaska, you've got to experience Glacier Bay.

Anthony L

one of the most spectacular places i have ever seen. amazing to see

Joy O'Connor

Absolutely stunning. Rugged but beautiful place to visit, glaciers galore.

Carl Kostrzewski

It was pretty good. Each glacier is unique in its own way however lack of wildlife was a little bit sad.

Julie Marie

The most beautiful place I've ever seen.

Krissy Redwine

Very pretty but not much to do there. There are about 10 businesses there giftshops and restaurants. I guess you could fish off the shore if you had a license.

steve cell

Grand Pacific Glacier is covered with rock and dirt... No ice is visible. The Margarete Glacier next door in phenomenal.

Joseph scalet

Sad to see how much smaller the glaciers have gotten but still awe inspiring!

Troy

Phenomenal park, a must for any bucket list.

Aaron Pressel

What a wonderful park! Less than a million visitors a year as well making it one of the less visited national parks. It is difficult to get to as you have to go to Alaska and then either fly or take a ferry to get to the park. The park has over 3.3 million acres of land and they are very generous with backwoods camping permits. I met a lot of people who were going on week-long camping and kayaking trips. The options for lodging are limited, but the camping is free and according to the park ranger I spoke with, the campground has never filled up. The campground is really nice as well -- best bathrooms I have ever seen at a campground! Such an amazing place.

Steva Plavsic

Pure nature, beautiful sightseeing, relaxing. Unique

peter koskovich

Sad to see the glaciers reseeding and another example of how indignant man is to our only home. Loved the sights and awesomeness of nature before it's all gone.

Bryan Nguyen

Beautiful views everywhere you look. It's awe striking to see the glaciers melt, but sad at the same time. Glacier Bay to definitely worth a visit, and I highly recommend a visit before it all melts away.

Ann Earles

So different from home. Great ranger talks and interaction

Roger William Coates

Absolutely Spectacular, worth the trip just to see this incredible place.

Tremaine Kingbird

Absolutely beautiful. Went in via a cruise. Park rangers came aboard and gave multiple presentations. There was also an indigenous woman who also gave history of her people. Must go see before the glaciers are gone!!!

Howard S

This place is spectacular. While not the biggest glaciers we visited on or trip, it did seam to have a little more activity (calving of ice) on the day of our visit. The park rangers were very informative and seamed to enjoy their duties with enthusiasm.

Matthew Reaman

The best views ever, a must see.

Tom Carroll

On board the Ruby Princess we toured Glacier Bay. Park rangers came aboard and narrated our voyage. Their presentations were informative and thought provoking! Thank you Rangers Katie, Kristian (sorry if I misspelled) and especially Ranger Molly with whom I had an excellent conversation about the park, nature, and the state of the environment. These ladies definitely enhanced our experience!

Doug Joubert

One of the most incredible experiences of my life. Seeing these natural beauties, hearing the rumbling of the sliding glaciers, it is indescribable.

Lise Graham

Beautiful unique scenery. Hearing from the park rangers was a great addition to the trip.

Michael Busler

Worth taking the cruise to see the glaciers while you still can!

Alvin P

Amazing! Must see! Hard to describe but beautiful. We got lucky and heard the roars then saw huge junks of ice fall into the water. Glaciers all around ontop of the mountains.

Emily Balazs

Breathtaking views! Brave the cold, you won't be disappointed!

Yew Chye Tan

Gorgeous Glacier viewing here, and makes you feel that whatever troubles you have is so insignificant as compared to the nature's mission.

George Wallace

What a cool place to visit, loved the glaciers!!!

Marilyn Bellows

Unbelievable sight, and the majesty of the glaciers.

Lisa Ball

Absolutely spectacular!!! One of the most breathtaking places I have ever seen!!!

Ibtesam Syed

One of the most peaceful and beautiful places on Earth. The world is constantly changing, so it is sad to consider that within a few years, this magnificent sight will have disappeared and altered.

Dean Bradford

Beautiful place to visit. Lots of otters and seals. Saw 2 or 3 whales.

Emily Clarrey

Glacier bay should be on everyone's bucket list! Stunning park with lots of wildlife!

Stephen Yang

Pretty awesome views, and the rangers are super nice.

JoJo Anne

It's heavenly. So beautiful. A must for beautifully carved Glaciers. The MARJORIE GLACIER is an example of beauty with its thundering, melting and shifting glaciers.

Amanda Miller

Stunningly beautiful. A once in a lifetime must-see. The famous glacier, whales, sea otters, sea lions, birds, etc. Bring your binoculars! Mid May is a lovely time to see it all.

Vicki Kuhl

This place is awesome and awe striking! Went on a Holland America cruise and it was worth the money, time and bucket listing. A once or twice in a lifetime sight you really should splurge on. Nothing to do but sit back and let nature entertain you in her full glory. A camera is all you need plus a nice warm jacket. Do it! You wont regret!

Patrick Roberts

Great views from our ship and we were able to catch every from our room

Mykkah Herner

Beautiful and serene. Marjorie glacier put on a good show for us. Lots of calving, which looks and sounds cool but maybe isn't the best for Earth.

James Burlis

Absolutely beautiful. Fog cleared, glaciers were amazing, did see calving. Saw eagles, orca. Others on same trip saw otters.

Mũi Đẹp VIP

We cruised into Glacier Bay at about 8am. At that time of the morning it was just a surreal place to visit. Being on one of the smaller cruise ships we were able to get really close to the glaciers and experience the exhilaration of the ice crashing into the bay. This is where I fell in love with Alaska

Gayle Dolphin

This was a highlight scenic cruising on Coral Princess in glacier Bay even had spectacular views of glacier calving

Paul Waldie

A site to see and think about how old this ice actually is. Nearly all of the glaciers are retreating (melting faster than they are accumulating new snow and ice). See them before they are to far back from the bay to see.

Anne-Marie Leon

Stunning, once in a lifetime experience.

Paul Zucker

A beautiful area of glaciers that not only provides ample opportunity to views these majestic natural wonders, but gives you the opportunity to see how quickly they are disappearing and will continue to do so unless climate change is abated!

Jaison Varghese

Peaceful, natural and Perfect An incredible place for exploring and watching some beautiful wildlife and spectacular views. The park service Rangers are friendly. The Park is named for its abundant tidewater and terrestrial glaciers. Ecosystems in the park are wet tundra, Alpine tundra, coastal forest, and glaciers and icefields. Worth Visiting. Love to See Whales, just visit this park.

Cheryl Kaufman

Wow. Boat tour is totally worth it. We saw several Glaciers, of course, whales and mountain goats (at a distance) and a bear on the beach. Harbour seals, sea lions etc.. Perfect for birders, a stop at marble island has tons of birds! Clam chowder served was great. Fly over on Alaska seaplanes is so much easier than Alaska Airlines! Less time since no TSA checks and very small planes...about 10 passengers only.

Ingrid Davis

Amazing place. Best part of the cruise.

Dan Rich

By way of cruise ship, this place is pretty cool. See things you wouldn't otherwise be able to from land. This must be an epically large place, we just saw the tip of the iceberg (see what I did there

J. E. Smith

Too SPECTACULAR to describe and a MUST DO on your BUCKET LIST! In addition to the AMAZING GLACIERS, enjoy SEALS, OTTERS, WHALES, EAGLES, MOUNTAIN GOATS and even a rare GRIZZLY BEAR!!!

Kurt Bachmayer

Get here if you can - while there are still glaciers to view. Pristine and breathtaking. Save the Planet!

Kenny Pillow

A small plane ride full of "fun" bounces and you get to see glaciers and bears have lunch at the base of said glacier, and take a peaceful stroll through the gardens... then another fun ride back to Juneau.

Parker Shannon

Breath taking. The beauty of God's creation can be seen here. It's hard to imagine that the glacier is actually moving but occasionally you hear the crack and rubble of it moving.

john long

Super cool! You have to see it to appreciate it's awesome beauty!

Jerry

Glacier view is absolutely beautiful. I would recommend anyone traveling to Alaska to visit this place first.

Alan Mentser

AMAZING VIEWS. JUST BREATHTAKING....

Scott Erickson

Incredible experience. Everywhere you look is beautiful scenery. Mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, and rock formations. Wife just said, this is better than Panama canal. Pretty sure few places on earth can compare to this area. Cruising here allows a close up view that would be very difficult to see any other way. Like it so much we are definitely coming back again some day.

Mick Feely

Beautifully peaceful and serene. Incredible views everywhere you look. Abundance of whales and wildlife.

Bob C

Place is overrated. Is it scenic? Yes are there better places in Alaska. Absolutely

Chrissy Hudak

The entire reason for our cruise. Just breath taking. Saw a bunch of cute little otters from the ship as well.

Conor Carroll

Seeing Glacier Bay was like seeing Yosemite for the first time. Seeing the mountain goats on the mountains, and the whales as you come in, the unique shade of teal of the water, and of course the incredible glaciers just profoundly shows the beauty of nature. It also showed the devastating effects that climate change is having. Charting the retreat of the glaciers over the past two hundred years shows how much this area is changing (and will change).

Maria C. Vidal

A must-see destination!!! Awesome views and the people are nice. Different activities to sightsee, although they are very expensive.

Gwan Tio

Beautiful and unique nature of glacier, mountains and the sea. We did an ocean cruise, saw the park from the ship.

Klaus Koenig

The boat trip to the Margarete Glacier is spectacular. Sea otters, puffins and bears...

Frances Brown

The voyage to the bay itself is beautiful. The glaciers are awesome. We saw lots of otters near the base of the glacier, spotted a humpback whale. Even without the wild life, this is spectacular bay!

laura hoshaw

Very cool to see the glaciers. especially liked seeing and hearing them fall

eightys4ever

Truly untouched by man, and it shows.

Jack Marshall

All that a can say is "Wow", absolutely beautiful, if you get a chance see it

Ade Dangerfield

Visited on cruise ship Noordam. I hope we didn't make too much of a footprint as it's the most pristine place I've visited in the world. The bay, mountains and glaciers are so vast it's easy to lose proportion.

jon caldeira

100% beautiful scenery nothing else to say!

Dave Thompson

Alaska is such an amazing place... You have no idea how grand and massive this place is until you see for yourself Whales... Seals... Mountain goats and of course sea otters... Oh and the calving glaciers are amazing too...

Deena S

Once in a lifetime experience that we will never forget. Saw some seals and a lot of Eagles. Margerie Glacier was absolutely beautiful.

Jesse Jacob

Gorgeous!! We took a cruise through the park and got to see so many seals and whales and even a few sheep and brown bear from the water. The glacier views are amazing!

David Joos

Beautiful and peaceful. The glaciers were amazing. From a cruise ship, Marjorie was the best. From a smaller boat, I'm sure others would be equally amazing. Saw several whales, many sea otters, mountain goats and quite a few seals. Highly recommended.

Austin Izso

Very beautiful and nice experience. Go before they're gone.

Michael Kochis

Breath taking views and an awe inspiring place to view nature.

Charlene Ferguson

So amazing. God is the best artist ever

Dustin Horton

We came here on a cruise ship, which I think is the ideal way to see this place. I can't describe the feeling of seeing several huge glaciers in one place. It was a moving experience.
